Plugged Or Unplugged Macbook

I have read about battery care and calibration of the battery. What I want to know is when you battery is at 100% do you unplug when using it at home when an outlet is near by or just leave it plugged. I usually use mine watching the tv so the oulet is beside me.

It is OK to leave your battery hooked to the charger most of the time. The only time I unhook mine from the charger is when I calibrate. Once the battery is charged it drops out and sits idle and the charge circuit is off so it will not damage the battery.
Although the guys at the AppleStore told me this I thought it was bad for the battery. This is what Apple says on the matter:
"*_Standard Maintenance_*
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. *Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time*. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her MacBook Pro on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing."
I got my Macbook in Nov '06 and its plugged in usually all the time, has had 97 cycles and health is 89%. So it seems to be ok from being plugged in. I thought of removing it if its always plugged and have it more like a desktop but I dunno which is better.

Stuck in headphone (optical digital-out port) mode. What do I do? Plugging and unplugging headphone jack no help.

Do you see a red light in the headphone jack?? If you do, then the microswitch is stuck and you need to turn it off. Try poking it with a toothpick.
If you don't see a red light, then try resetting the SMC and PRAM and see if these helps. Here are the links.

  • 2 thunderbolt displays worked fine daisy chained, moved one to work in other room, now only one will work.  both work independantly or both plugged into my macbook pro.

I have 2 thunderbolt displays and have had them daisy chained for months where I only would plug one into my macbook pro 15" retina and both displays have worked great.  The other day I moved one of them into the conference room, connected also a HDMI cord to a projector to do some work with staff on software design.
I brought my thunderbolt back into my office and plugged it back into the other thunderbolt dispay, then plugged the other display back into my macbook and started it up and now I can only get one to work daisy chained.  They both work great independantly or if both of them are plugged into my macbook pro, but not daisy chained any longer.
Is there a setting I need to look at to maybe reset so that my macbook pro will use both thunderbolt displays daisy chained?
Thanks for anyones advice and sharing any similar issues and how you fixed the issue.

    Hi there,
The first thing that I would recomend is resetting the PRAM on your portable.
OS X Mountain Lion: Reset your computer’s PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph11243
If the issues persist, then you may need to force the device to detect displays.
OS X Mountain Lion: About the Display pane of System Preferences
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5369
    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.

how do i get the light on my apple tv to stop blinking?  have tried all the recommended methods, including holding down "menu" on remote, plugging and unplugging etc.  when i try to restore via itunes it downloads then when it's done says it can't write to disc.

    Hi lostinmedford,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that the light is quickly flashing on your Apple TV and you are unable to restore it. According to the attached article, you are working through the correct steps by trying to reset and restore the Apple TV. In this situation, if the restore did not resolve the issue, it may be necessary to have the Apple TV evaluated for service by using the link in the attached article.
Apple TV: About the status light - Apple Support
    Flashes quickly
Having issues. Try restarting or waking your Apple TV. If your Apple TV does not start up properly, you might need to reset the Apple TV or restore it to factory settings. See Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Restoring your Apple TV. If this does not resolve the issue, refer to the Service FAQ for additional assistance.
    Best regards,

How do i get my iphone 4s out of being stuck in headphones mode. When i dont even have headphones plugged in, it says headphones ringer. I've tried blowing and sucking in the jack, didnt work. I tried using a blowdrier in the jack, didn't work. I also tried putting it in the freezer while in a plastic bag, trying to clean it with a qu tip, and plugging and unplugging the headphones more than 100 times, still nothing and i also restored, reset, and put my iphone in DFU mode, and still nothing seems to work. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANY OTHER WAY I NEED HELP PLEASEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! ANYONE ANY OTHER WAYS TO FIX IT?!?!??!? That would be very helpful

I had the same problem.  I squirted a drop of WD40 in the headphone hole and then used a plastic dental toothpick and twisted it around in the hole.  It amazingly worked.
    Good luck

You'll certainly need a new logic board.
If I were you, I would take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them evaluate the problems and give you an estimate for repair. If you're out of warranty, be prepared to pay a very high price to get your computer repaired.
    Good luck,

  • TS1574 you should mention that the audio output jack is fleaky, try plugging and unplugging until red light goes off !!!

It should be mentionned in the Apple help that the audio output jack is sometimes fleaky, as it does not reclose the speakers contacts correctly when an earphone jack is removed. This can be checked by looking into the computer audio jack and seeing a red light, which confirms the optic output is active. Plugging and unplugging the jack until the red light disapears is the cure, unless you are unfortunate enough to have a broken audio jack. Good luck !

Same here. I don't remember doing anything out of the ordinary. I was working in Parallels on getting a AM station to stream via some web interface. Next time I went to play sound on the internal speakers, no go.
I've tried zapping the PRAM, toggling the headphone jack and the toothpick thing. Nothing seems to work.
I've also noticed that I get sound in my headphones in iTunes but not in Garageband (someone had suggested that starting up Garageband would reset things.
    Any other ideas out there?
Is there a file that could get corrupted that I could switch out of my back up?

  • My thunderbolt display makes a noise when plugged into my macbook pro laptop

my thunderbolt display makes a noise when plugged into my macbook pro laptop. It sounds like an electronic noise which doesn't come through the speakers. Any advice how to eliminate this?

Could be a poor ground.  Try plugging the monitor directly into the wall (no power strip) and see what happens.

If your computer is running Windows, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.  Check to see if "Apple Mobile Device" Service is Started.  If not right click on this service and select Start.  Also make sure Startup type is set to Automatic.  If not, right click on this service, select Properties and set it to Automatic.
