Plugged USB into my MBP and it shut down. Doesn't restart, what to do?

I have a MacBook Pro (2009) with an OS Mountain Lion from Austria. Now im in the Philippines and plugged in an USB of a friend and my MacBook shut down.
First I thought I have no battery left, but it that wasn't the case.
Then I saw that the white light next to the Bluetooth thingy is on.
could it be that there is a virus on the USB?

Thanks for your fast respond! but I don't know how to do that intel restart when my macbook refuses to turn on.
I see the white light turning on, but I don't feel the hard drive turning on (if you know what I mean) I don't know how to explain it in a professional way, so thanks for bearing with me!

I've no idea what happened - but it sounds as if plugging in the phone has fried the logic board. The best thing that I can recommend is that you take the machine to your local Apple Store/AASP and have them diagnose the problem.
At this point, there's simply nothing else that you can attempt.

  • Usb device not recognised and sudden shut down. iphone doesn't appear itune

    Hi everyone.
    New to these forums.
I am travelling atm. Just received a new white iphone 3gs 16gb 6 weeks ago as a replacement on insurance from uk.
No previous problems. Yesterday phone suddenly powered off.
completely dead with around 30% baterry charge remaining.
now briefly shows charge icon when pressing on off button.
connect usb charger shows charging icon, disconnect shows not charged.
have left on for several hours and no more charge stored.
connect to pc and sound denotes usb connection, however message appears (vista)"usb device not recognised".
iphone does not appear in my computer or on itunes.
am travelling down through africa for the next 4 months so cannot visit store or post to apple or receive replacemant until return to uk in april.
    is this issue fixable?
moved to iphone from ipod 2 click wheel as that was extremely unreliable and crashed constantly.
have had 2 ipods, 1 iphone 3G and this 3Gs. only 3G worked without problems for a year. All other items failed repeatedly within weeks or months.
are apple going to produce a reliable product one day? functionality is great, reliability is less than 3rd rate.
can anyone help as i face 4 months overlanding with no music, translator apps or phone!!!!
    desperation creeping in.

    Hello iphonephan,
Try following the steps in these articles (try them in the order listed below):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
Another thing you can try is to import the pictures when that prompt comes up and then delete the pictures on the iPhone (you can also email them to yourself from the iPhone before deleting them). Once the camera roll is empty on the iPhone try connecting to the computer to test.

  • MBP AC Adapter Shuts Down my 24v to 220v Inverter

    Hello,
Here is a question that is both Apple MBP and electrical related.  I hope to find someone with some expertise in both these subjects.
I have a Macbook Pro 17", a 60w ac adapter, and I'm powering my device while on a 220v power, powered by a 600w Pure Sine Wave AC inverter on a 24v DC solar/hydro off-grid system.
Here is my problem:  periodically, I'll plug in my ac adapter to this system, and when plugging in to the outlet, the 600w inverter will shut down.  As soon as I unplug the ac adapter, the inverter will come back on (it is programed to cycle back on after a short), and work for any device by my macbook ac adapter.  It happens infrequently, but when it does occur, it will happen every time I plug in the ac adapter, until...I put the ac adapter into the outler very, very slowly, and kinda push the adapter into the outlet, at a small angle.  I must do this for every outlet there is on the grid.
Now, at the same time my ac adapter is causing an inverter shut down, any other device I plug into the grid—mixer, iPad adapter, 100w light bulb—works perfect.  It's simply the ac adapter that will shut off the inverter. And actually, I have another/second 60w macbook adapter, that will do the same exact thing, but I use it on a macbook 13".
I've read up on my inverter, and about how plugging certain AC devices into it will cause a surge of power in the initial second you plug it in.  At most, for high end electonics, that is 10x surge.  So, with my 60w apple ac adapter possibly surging at 10x 60w, that would be 600w.  Now, my particular inverter is rated at 600w continuous, 1200w surge power.  By design, it should cover the surge possibility.  But, like I said, this is an infrequent occurrence, so why it can manage sometimes, sometimes not, is challenging.
Also, why if I sloooooowly plug in the ac adapter, and kinda at an angle, the act of plugging in the ac adapter won't shut down the inverter?  When I do plug in the ac adapter, it matters not if I have it actually plugged into my macbook pro or not—the problem is just there.
Now I've also read that apple products and ac adapters are senstive things, and that one must use pure sine wave systems.  I have that covered here.  I have no other electronics operating on the solar/hydro grid, so there is no "competition" either.
Luckily, I can get the ac adapter to work, and charge my laptop—which is how I can make this post now—but I really want to know the concrete reason as to what is going on.  Is it a grounding isssue?  Does an Apple ac adapter create a special surge of electricity, unlike other products?  Can an Apple ac adapter get polarized?  Should I actually be using an 85w Apple ac adapter for my Macbook Pro?  I'm just guessing here, as you can read.
I want to stop guesssing, and if possible, do something in the off-grid power system I'm using, to solve the problem.

    Hello wise people,
I am still having an issue with Macbook AC adapters "shutting down" my 220v Inverter on my Renewable Energy power system.
This only occurs when my system is running purely on battery power.  When the system has either solar produced or hydro produced energy flowing into the system, the "spark" that the Macbook AC adapters make as I plug them in, occurs but does not shut down the Inverter.
What I can surmise here is that he Macbook AC adapters produce an initial surge that goes above the ratings of my Inverter, or, that my Inverter can somehow mediate the surge only when "backed up" by direct power from either the solar or hydro.
Does anyone have the surge ratings for Macbook AC adapters?  I have made an effort to search the Internet, and it seems to be well documented that Macbook AC adapters do have quite the difficulty with surging on electrical systemes.
    Thanks.

My mini ipod appears off and not respond to any commands when pressed the buttons to reset, apple logo appeared and then the apple support site and it shuts down. already tried all the steps, but none worked, and when I plug it into my computer it does not appear in the iTunes bar. what do I do?

If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk.

  • Is there an easier way to transfer your iTunes library on windows to a mac than copying the library to a usb and plugging the usb into the mac and put the library in the iTunes file

is there an easier way to transfer your iTunes library on windows to a mac than copying the library to a usb and plugging the usb into the mac and put the library in the iTunes file? I recently swapped to Mac and this is how i moved the library from windows to mac and library is in tact but is there an easier way? My cousin just imported her cd's again, but it was harder for me as i have an ipod with over 150 apps and i needed to move them. i think it would be helpful if i knew of an easier way so i can help a friend move his. Thanks

The general method of use is to download a script (double-click or right-click and use Download or Save As...) to a folder of your choice, e.g. your Desktop, Downloads folder or create a folder at ...\iTunes\Scripts. Select a playlist or highlight some tracks in iTunes and then double-click on the script to execute it. If no specific tracks are selected the script will try to work with all tracks in the current playlist or sometimes the entire library.

  • When I try to delete a song off my iphone by swiping right to left it doesnt delete, I even tried plugging the usb into my pc and deleting off itunes and i dont find an option to delete it, how can I?

When I try to delete a song off my iphone by swiping right to left it doesnt delete, I even tried plugging the usb into my pc and deleting off itunes and i dont find an option to delete it, how can I?

    Here's what I did:
    1. I synced my phone to iTunes and under the music tab, I selected sync only checked playlists. I made sure I had none of my playlists selected.
    2. After syncing I ejected the phone, and checked my music app. There now was no music at all on my phone.
    3. Synced it again to iTunes and synced music how I typically do. When it was finished, I checked for the unwanted song, and it was gone.
Maybe this will work for you as well.

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

how do you unlock ipads if ur forgotten ur password. i have plugged it into my comp and it says cant connect ipad is locked

Try and force the iPad into Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

  • My iPhone will not turn on, when I plug it into my computer and load up iTunes its in recovery mode and the only option is to restore my device to factory settings. I have no back up of my phone I've also tried the home/sleep button thing but nothing

My iPhone 4 will not turn on, when I plug it into my computer and load up iTunes its in recovery mode and the only option is to restore my device to factory settings, I have no back up of my phone I've also tried the home/sleep button thing but nothing, I have literally done every method I was told, I checked for water damage and that's fine. I don't want to restore my phone or buy a new one or pay for repairs because that's wasting money when it could be a simple way to fix it. And yes, I've also tried charging it and turning it in. I really need some help with my phone

That does happen.  It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system.  If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.
