Plugging in a WRT54G to a different computer?

I have three computers in my home. One on the top floor (A), two (I will call them B and C) on the bottom. The linksys router is physically connected to computer A. I used to only have computer A and computer B. The internet worked fine. Then I obtained computer C, bought a wireless card for it and it connected to the internet. But, computer B can't keep a connection.
Unfortunately, computer A crashed, but it's still connected to the modem. Computer C is connected to the internet. So, I am unable to access 198.168.1.1. Last year in March I had taken computer B to be cleaned out because of a trojan, the man fixed it and the internet worked fine. It started to "short-circut" on me in the middle of August of that same year.
Now, computer A is still broken, computer B still doesn't connect, and computer C is fine.
What would happen if I had unplugged the router from computer A and into computer B, would the internet still function?

Your WRT54G does not need computer A to function.   The only reason to have a computer wired to the router is so that you can update settings at 192.168.1.1 , and update the router's firmware.    These router maintainance tasks can be performed by any computer that is wired to the router.  Other than the time needed to perform these tasks, you do not need to have any computer wired to the router.
Be sure to power down your entire network before changing the wiring.

If it there is a backup you will find in in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup.  (Just open Finder>Go>Go To Folder..., past this in the path box and click Go.)

  • I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up. I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everythi

I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up. I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everything. I have authorized this new computer so I don't know what the problem is. I can't get on my old computer with my itunes account because the computer is broken. Not sure what to do

"I have logged in to my itunes account on a different computer and none of my purchased music is showing up."
Correct.  it does not magially appear in other places.  It will only be where you put it.
"I also have plugged my iphone in to get updates but it says I will lose all media and apps if I don't update on the computer where  I sync everything. "
Correct as well.  Iphone will sync with one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content.
You need to copy everything ( itunes library/contacts/pics/calendars/files/docs) from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old one, to the new one.

my ipod touch is not responding when i plugged it  in even with a different cord and restarting my computer and i am using my moms itunes that she has had for a long time and so i cant uninstall itunes.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I have a classic iPod with songs that were put on it from a different computer. If I plug it up to my computer, will it keep the songs that were originally on it from the previous computer AND allow me to put new songs on it from my computer?

I have a classic iPod with songs that were put on it from a different computer. If I plug it up to my computer, will it keep the songs that were originally on it from the previous computer AND allow me to put new songs on it from my computer?

No.  Your iPod is designed to sync with one computer/iTunes library at a time. If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, the contents currently on the iPod will be erased and replaced with content from the new library.  So you'll want to copy what is currently on the iPod over to your new iTunes library first before syncing it.

  • I don't have a clue how to not sync my mini iPad to a different computer without wiping my soft wear.. What shall I do ?

I  recently looked at a question about how not to sync the iPad to a different computer... But I can't find edit to start anything.. Please help me

    what exactly do you mean?
do you want to prevent your ipad from syncing when your are going to plug it in into ANOTHER computer?
if yes, you have the possibility to CHECK (enable) the option "disable auto-sync ..." (i don't know the english term) within the itunes' settings.

  • Can I restore my iPad from a sync/backup that was made on a different computer but copied to my current one?

I regularly sync my iPad with my mac by plugging it in with the USB cable and hitting the "Sync" button in iTunes. Until recently, I had a computer with Leopard that just died. Luckily I had a backup of everything, including my iTunes folder, on an external hard drive. When I plug my iPad into my new computer (which has Lion), I can see all my apps and my preferences regarding what to sync have been saved.
Unfortunately, one of my apps, Papers, had a lot of information on it that was lost recently and I'd like to restore that information if possible. The Papers support people told me that it should be stored in my iPad backup, so if I restore it from a backup I should get that data back. But on iTunes is says that the last backup on this computer is "unknown". I don't know if that means there is no backup, or if it just doesn't know the date because it was copied from a different computer. Regardless, it makes me nervous to hit restore when I don't know if I have a backup or not.
    My questions are:
    1) Can I access a backup of my iPad on my new computer?
    2) If so, would I just hit "Restore" and it will give me the option of restoring from the backup that was there?
I want to make sure if I restore my iPad I won't lose anything accidentally!
    Thank you!

I just wanted to update this chain since I was able to solve the problem I had. My iPad backups were on a time machine backup, but not on my new computer. In my most recent time machine backup I navigated to:
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup and took the most recent folder from there. I copied that folder into the corresponding directory on my new machine, and then when I opened iTunes and plugged in my iPad it was there and I was able to restore it!
Note that if you have multiple devices, you can open that folder in the Backup directory and find the info.plist file, and near the top it will say the name of the device, so I was able to tell which was my iPad backup and which was my iPhone backup.
    Problem solved!

  • How do you add your Iphone to another computer once you have already added it to a different computer.

My home computer is no longer working. How do you addf your Iphone 4 to a different computer for updates and sync?

Plug it in and sync it.
It will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer, as is the design of the iphone.
Use your backup copy of your home computer to put everything on the new computer.

  • TS1368 I am trying to update my new iphone, and need to access my itunes account from a different computer.  How do I do this?

I have a new Iphone 5 that I am trying to sync with my existing itunes account.  I need to get this to sync to a different computer, than what I originally set it up on.  Every time I plug it in, it takes me to my daughters itunes account, and wants to sync up with her music.  How do I change the itunes account?

Hey Mike, just sign in the iTunes Store and authorize your account on this machine (don't worry, you'll be asked for it), then you will ready to use it.

  • Use an external hard drive - want to connect to a different computer...

    Hi, pardon my ignorance but...
I keep all my ipod music on an external hard drive since I only have my work laptop, but the programs are on the computer. I used to never have a problem accessing itunes through my work laptop once I plugged the hard drive in.
The last time I synched my ipod there were about a dozen songs that I got a message "Some of the items in the itunes library, including..., were not copied to the ipod 'My iPod' because you are not authorized to play them on this computer". Some of the songs were explicit content, some weren't. Some I bought on iTunes, some were loaded from cds.
If I take my external hard drive and plug it into a different computer what will happen? Is there a way to get those songs back on my ipod? Again, sorry for not being too saavy. I have a 30GB video iPod.

+yes, when my external hard drive is plugged in, it lets me play the songs...+
So, were you expecting them to play when the exHD isn't plugged in? Because they won't!
Also, you need to have the exHD plugged in before you even start up iTunes, or your library file will get messed up.

When I plug any of my phones into the computer it does not connect. I can hear a beep but that's it.  I checked all of my USB cords and the same results. Normally it would download my new pictures and start charging and that no longer happens. When I plug my wall charger in the phone charges.

My Premiere Pro CC 2014 8.1.0 project file was created and worked upon on my personal macbook laptop. I have been working entirely off of an external hard drive that was plugged into my macbook. When I plug in the ipad into my Sony laptop, it states 'all movies will be lost" if I place the movie from a different computer. How can I transfer the movie into my ipad?
