Plugging in Ipod classic restarts computer + blue screen!

So I haven't had a problem with my 80gb ipod classic until last night. Last night I updated my itunes and then plugged my ipod in to sync it. Within a second a blue screen had appeared on my computer and my computer restarted. I tried again today and it did the exact same thing. I even tried it with itunes not open (so it's gotta be something with the ipod right!?) I tried a different USB, and no luck. Please help

Hi chaps,
you may add myself to your problem report list too.
After having installed iTunes 8 thru the update process called up from Vers 7 my iPod classic 80G is crashing the Vista computer. Blue screen indicates "usbappl....sys" to be the issue and after Vista recovery the problem report includes the info

BCP2: 8D7DC515
BCP3: 8895B688
BCP4: 8895B384
OS Version: 606001
Service Pack 1_0
The crash happens regardless of whether iTunes is running or shut down. The ipod classic 80G works on another machine under XP and using iTunes 7.xxx
I hope that Apple can very soon offer an update to iTunes.

  • While restoring the factory settings on my 7th gen iPod classic, my computer blue-screened. Now, my iPod just keeps continually restarting and cannot be recognized by my computer or iTunes.

Is there a way I can make my iPod stop restarting and be recognized by my computer so I can continue to use it?

    Hello GraceSchaff
Try putting your iPod Classic into Disk Mode and then in iTunes click restore when it shows up to take care of that process again.

  • Ipod Classic restarts computer. Help!

I have an 80gb Classic bought last August which has been working fine until today! I plugged it in the USB, the screen goes blank and it restarts the computer in a continuous loop. I tried it in 3 different USB ports and it does exactly the same thing in each.
I turned off the auto restart and I get the following error message when I switch it on:
    *Stop: 0x000000FC (0xBA5078E8, 0x0AZF6963, 0xBA507848, 0x00000001)
I'm not a computer expert by any means and have no idea what to do next to try and solve this.
My ipod has itunes 8:2 on it. I've tried to update the drivers on each USB but the computer says that there is no update for them and that they are already up to date.

  • Frustrating! iPod Classic restarts computer!!

I have gone through numerous help guides from Apple and have searched through at least 40 pages on the message boards and have yet to find any advice that might actually help me. I recently got a new 160GB iPod Classic and when I connected it to my computer through the USB port it was not recognized by iTunes but a little bubble popped up in Windows saying that a USB Mass Storage Device had been detected and as soon as that disappeared, the computer went to a blue screen and then restarted. The blue screen did have a message on it but it flashed so quickly that it was impossible to read. I tried nearly everything I could think of to make the problem stop. I deleted a lot of old programs from my computer, I reinstalled iTunes, and have tried other things which were suggested in the help articles. However nothing I did fixed the problem.
I took the iPod back to the Circuit City where I had purchased it and the guy there tested it by plugging it into his computer...he had the same problem. Thinking that it was an issue with the iPod, we got a new one. Unfortunately the same problem occurs with the new iPod. I also bought my father a 4GB iPod Nano over a month ago but haven't had the time to get his hooked up, and oddly enough it restarts the computer as well.
For some reason my ancient 20GB iPod still connects to iTunes, but only through Firewire. I've tried using Firewire with the Nano and the new Classic, but iTunes won't recognize the iPods through that either, but at least it make the computer restart.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi just wanted to let you know I solved most of my XP problems with my new IPOD. It won't recognise the IPOD or driver and froze and locked up and then the battery died. After hours of trying different things here is what I did. I completly closed computer down. Waited 15 minutes turned on and reloaded everything. I put the usb cable in but not hooked up to IPOD. I turned off Mcaffee (all of it). After my computer came on. I then went and closed everything I didn't need in the bottom toolbar. (taskbar). I then reloaded the software and waited. Took forever to reload and I don't know why but whatever it worked but I DID NOT HOOK UP THE IPOD LIKE IT SAID! I instead shut down the computer after loading the software and waited 5 minutes and turned it back on. I again waited and shut of mcaffee. It loaded everything fine this time and said new hard ware and drivers detected. I plugged my IPOD in and YES I WAS UP AND RUNNING (THIS IS AFTER 6 HOURS OF PLAYING WITH OTHER THINGS!) I am able to load and play, burn, watch movies, see pictures and everything your suppose too! The only thing I see different than the instructions is I left my usb cable plugged in and when it said to eject the disk I didn't. I also didn't plug in the IPOD (5th Gen) and then I shut down waited and then restarted the computer. I hope this helps others because I know the feeling of wanting to return something you paid dearly for and worked hard at saving money to buy one and it doesn't work. My only thing I dislike about apple is they didn't supply a ac adapter for the IPOD and the instructions say to plug it up when trying to charge battery. DUHHHHHH, ya can't do that if ya don't have one and stores are closed and won' open until Monday! But at least I am up and running. I just hate having to plug up IPOD to computer daily to charge the battery which only last a half a day1

I have never had anything like this happen. (never gotten it wet or had it exposed to extreme temperatures) It is also unresponsive to any buttons on the ipod and it didn't show up when i plugged it into my computer. What do I do? Also if it is unfixable could i get a free one from apple?

  • My 120GB IPod classic is not recognized by my Windows 7 PC.  When I plug the ipod into my computer I receive a message saying that the USD device is not recognized.

My 120GB IPod classic is not recognized by my Windows 7 PC.  When I plug the ipod into my computer I receive a message saying that the USD device is not recognized.  The Device Manager lists it as an Unknown Device.  I've tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it, but it had no affect.  The odd thing is that our other iPod (160 GB Classic) is recognized on the same computer using the same USB cable.  When I plug the ipod in question into another PC, the PC seems to recognize the iPod and lists it in Windows Explorer (iTunes is not installed on this machine).  There seems to be something out of wack with this PC/iPod combo.  Any thoughts on what I can do to try to resolve this issue?  I tried all of the steps listed here, but they didn't help me.  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I plugged my ipod into my computer to load up new tunes and it froaze on the time I dad connected it with the message 'do not disconnect' on the screen. Despite disconnecting and reconnecting it and ensuring it was charged up it will not operate. The 'lock' symbol is showing at the top of the screen even when I have moved the lock switch. I have been using my ipod for several years with no similar fault. What is the problem/solution?

I would first try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Next would be to restore the iPod from backup

My iPod was updating to iOS 6 and i shut it off during the update because it was taking too long and now my screen in baby blue i've tried to drain the battery but when i plugged it in to charge the blue screen came back on.I dont know what to do

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Plugging my iPod into my computer...

Whenever I plug my iPod into my computer, it freezes up and I have to push the center and menu buttons to reset it before it will unfreeze and my computer will recognize it. The screen lights up when I first plug it in, but everything freezes and it doesn't show that it is connected. Any ideas on why this is happening? This only happens when I don't have iTunes open already.

are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • When I plug the ipod into my computer it

When I plug the ipod into my computer it showes the normal "Do not disconnect" thing in the ipod... In windows it apears that I have connected a usb-device. But explorer, iTunes or iPod updater can find the device. Then I disconnect the iPod, but the ipod keep saying "do not disconnect". When I'm restart the ipod (select + menu) it works fine until I connect it to the computer
If u have an idea of how to solve this problem plz reply...

ops, posted this at wrong place... sorry
