Plugging My Apple Keyboard Into a Powered USD Hub

Hi!
I'd like to use my Mbox (Version 1) with my Dual 867 Desktop, whenever I use Protools LE, while switching between Logic & PT LE, and as we all know Digi says the Mbox will not support being plugged into a USB Hub, or the connections on the keyboard, so I'll need to connect it to to one of the "onboard USB sockets."
Well as you know the tower only has two connections. Currently, my USB Hub has my MIDI interface in it, but that will not work from the keyboards USB connections.
So, my question is, will I have any problems if I plug the Apple keyboard into the hub, so I can use the newly open UsB socket in the tower for the Mbox?
By the way, I've used Logic on my new Laptop with the Mbox and so far I've not had any problems, and this is with a song with tons of plugins and a fair number of tracks that I'd orignially recorded on the Dual 867 Desktop.
Thanks for your help.

Have you had any problems with your machine not
waking out of sleep mode? Just a rhetorical question
Right!
I really dunno. The last time I put my system in sleep mode (2 years ago , it was more of a "ETERNAL SLEEP" mode... as you've stated, sleeep is a no-no with pro audio systems.

  • Can you plug an external Apple keyboard into a PC?

    Hi all,
Does anyone know whether you can plug an external Apple keyboard into a PC? I presume it would, but I don't want to go and buy one and find out the expensive way that it doesn't. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

I always go for shades of gray, but if you want to it could be a yes (it is not a "no" though).
And Apple keyboards have changed over the years and where you buy, what they carry.... Apple Store is one, another is Amazon, both around $60 but Amazon has the older model I have (and I like to have backup spares too).

  • I want to plug my apple tv into a projector but i want to break the sound out and plug this in to a sperate audio solution which has 2 phono's. Is there a lead that does this?

I want to plg my apple tv in to a projector but i want to break the sound out to a seperate audio solution. Is there a lead that I can use? The sound system has 2 x phono connections?

The sound can already be "broken out" by using the optiocal cable jack. That, of course, assumes your audio input is capable of optical inputs. If not, you might have alook into something like this: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=opt ical+to+rca+converter&tbm=shop

  • Full size apple keyboard, Macbook Air and Thunderbolt problem

Here's the scenario.  Come to work, plug in Macbook air to thunderbolt display.  Hit keyboard to wake it up.  Nothing.  Click magic mouse and awake comes Macbook and thunderbolt display.  Click on user and go to type password in... no keyboard.  Happens every 2-3 days sometimes 2-3 days in a row.  Have to open Macbook Air, use Macbook keyboard to log in.  Hit restart, let it boot and then viola the usb keyboard works.
I have searched Thunderbolt firmware updates and see the previous cases of people having trouble and pram zapping and blah blah blah. I can't seem to find instructions on firmware update anywhere for thunderbolt display.  Is there no correct fix for this yet?  I'm using all Apple products.  It should just work.
    Thanks in advance.

Through experimentation, I've found that the audio works fine (i.e., no static) if I remove all USB connections from the Thunderbolt Display.
If I plug my Apple keyboard into a USB port on the Thunderbolt Display, and I let the audio play for a few minutes, the audio begins to degrade with static.
As a short-term workaround, I've removed all USB connections from the Thunderbolt Display. When I connect the MacBook Air to the display, I plug a USB hub into the MacBook Air (not into the Thunderbolt Display). I plug the Apple keyboard (etc.) into the USB hub. With this configuration, the audio works fine.
Of course, I do want to be able to use the USB ports on the Thunderbolt Display, so this is a short-term workaround at best.

  • "New Apple keyboard" will not power devices even on powered hub?

I'm assuming the decision to power a device through the USB port is software-based since my "new keyboard" refuses to power any high-drain device despite being plugged into a powered USB hub. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this something that I can hope Apple will eventually address or is it the (only) downside to buying this sweet keyboard?

A powered device only supplies high power the devices directly attached to the USB hub. The keyboard will only pass what is is spec'd to pass which by definition is a low amount of power.
Well, looks like that's not entirely true since Apple says:
"Devices that draw high power from the USB connection, such as iPods, hard drives
and some flash drives, can only be used with the new keyboard when it is attached
    to the aluminum iMac."
This suggests that the keyboard can, in fact, pass the power to the device when hooked up to the new iMacs and that the limitation is somehow software (or firmware) based and not a function of the USB architecture.
So, I guess in a way I have my answer: Apple has somehow limited the new keyboard when it's not used with an iMac. That, or it's an issue of which they were originally unaware and one that they may someday "fix".

  • Can I plug Apple TV into a VGA monitor?

I'm considering purchasing an Apple TV.  I do not own a TV, but I do have a large computer monitor which only accepts VGA input.  Can I plug an Apple TV into it?

No, not without some form of HDMI to VGA/analogue audio converter which would be unlikely to be cheap.  It would also need to support 720p input and HDCP to avoid oplayback issues.
You might get it working, but it may not be cheap or simple to do so.

  • New Apple Keyboard KVM switch

I shelled out the $50.00+ for the new aluminum keyboard.
It does not work when connected with my Iogear KVM switch.
Anyone know of a solution? I have been searching for hours, and cannot find anyone who has asked this question.
I know there are new KVM boxes that don't force you to connect your mouse and keyboard separate. I always wondered why they had to be plugged in separately. Seems like a HUGE design flaw.
I want to plug in my keyboard into one USB port on the KVM and plug the mouse into the keyboard, like it should be.
    ANY HELP?????
    PLEASE????

I wish I had read this thread before going out to buy my new aluminum keyboard. Same trouble (with IOGear 2-port KVM switch)
I just found a review of the keyboard on Amazon which may explain the problem:
*+One word of warning, this keyboard does not appear to work with my IOGear GCS632U KVM. Normally, keyboards with LED backlighting have trouble with unpowered USB KVM switches. This apple keyboard appears to just be a simple keyboard & 2 port hub, just like the last few apple keyboards, so I'm a little surprised that it doesn't work.+*
+*... Since this keyboard is a USB 2.0 device, the KVM issue may simply be that the IOGear KVM doesn't speak USB 2.0.*+

  • New Apple Keyboard (Alu) meet G4 sawtooth?

    Hey folks,
I just got a new slim aluminium Apple keyboard as a treat for my aging G4, but it seems that it won't let the Mac shutdown. If I use Ctrl-Eject and hit enter (as is my habit on Apple Pro keyboards) or if I select Shut Down from the Apple menu I get the same results - a restart, (I have to kill the Mac by holding down the power buttin on the front).
I've switched back to the small 'original iMac' style keyboard (the black one that came with the 1998-vintage hockey puck mouse) and shutdown works fine again.
I see that the original keyboard has the power button on it and I suspect that there is somethig in the new keyboard that is sending a signal as if this were pressed, does anyne know if there's a workaround or should I be boxing it up to take back to the shop for a refund?
I did download the Apple Keyboard software via Software Update when I furst installed the keyboard, but the problem has occurred since then.
Appreciate any help and advice you can offer.
    Vince
(PS: It's a real shame, cos I quite like the new keyboard, even though I've got quite good at pounding this old one!)

You know, I huess I shouldn't really be answering my own question, but I think I've got it figured out - I have simply plugged the aluminium keyboard into the USB2 PCI card I have (for my iPod) - as this is not expecting to be able to start the Mac, it will do a proper shutdown instead of a restart.
And so I'm now typing this using the new keyboard! Yay!

PS: It's been a while since I last posted here, and there's something new happening below the edit window, but it's always in my peripheral vision. (Oh, it's automatically saving a draft)

  • Hard drive not recognized when connected to Apple keyboard

    Hi there,
I'm using a dock (Henge) for my MacBook Pro with a wired Apple keyboard to which I connect a Passport hard drive using the USB port (my Time Machine backup). The hard drive is self powered but still it won't be recognized by the Macbook Pro. I have used the USB port to connect my iPhone without any issue.
Any ideas? Should I use a USB power booster?
    Thanks
    CB

The USB ports in the Apple keyboard are NOT powered, so your passport HD will not work on it because it pulls too much power from the USB port.

  • Old white apple keyboard wont allow my windows 7 pc to start up

Hi Guys, I just bought an old white apple keyboard for my windows 7 machine because i love the look of the white and see through plastic. Now if i plug my old keyboard in and log in to the desktop and then turn plug the apple keyboard in, it downloads drivers and installs them and i can use the keyboard perfectly, but every time i shut down and restart, it says keyboard failure. Is there any way for me to fix this, else i will forever need to log in with my dell keyboard and then change to the apple keyboard. Thanks for any advice. Russ

Hi all.  I can’t tell you how to solve your iCloud 3.x issues.  Heck, I don’t think they’re even solvable.
But if you had a previous version of iCloud that was working correctly then I can definitely tell you how to solve the “iCloud Photo Stream is not syncing correctly to my Windows 7 PC” problem.  …without even a re-boot.
Log out of iCloud 3.0 and uninstall it.
Open My Computer and then open your C:\ drive.  Go to Tools/Folder Options and click on the View tab.  Select the “Show hidden…” radio button and click on OK.
    Open the Users folder.
    Open your user folder
    Open ProgramData (previously hidden folder)
Open the Apple folder – not the Apple Computer folder.
    Open the Installer Cache folder
In Details view sort on Name
Open the folder for the newest entry for iCloud Control Panel 2.x – probably 2.1.2.8 dated 4/25/2013
Right click on iCloud64.msi and select Install.
When finished, the synching between iCloud and your PC will be back to working perfectly as before the 3.0 fiasco.  The pictures will be synched to the same Photostream folder as before the “upgrade”.  Now all you need to do is wait until Apple/Microsoft get this thing fixed and working before you try the 3.x upgrade again.
I think the iCloud 3.0 software was written by the same folks who wrote healthcare.gov with the main difference being that healthcare.gov might eventually be made to work.
For those of you who hate to go backwards, think of it as attacking to the rear.  Which would you rather have, the frustration of no synching or everything working on an older version?
    Good luck…

  • 10.5.2 - Frozen Grey Boot Screen with Powered USB Hub -

Hey guys I upgraded to 10.5.2 and after I did, I found my powered USB hub was causing a hanging grey screen when I turn the power on. Anyway does anyone know how to make it not lock up on a grey screen? If I unplug the hub it boots, but until I do it is an endless hanging grey screen. If it is a bug can you guys please fix because I find it really annoying to have to unplug and replug my hub every time I boot.
    System.
20 inch iMac (new one with black back)
    Generic 7 port hub
Ipod, USB Mic, and Mighty Mouse plugged into the hub.

Update: IT only happens when I plug my iPod into the hub that is plugged into my iMac. If I plug my iPod into the Macs USB directly it boots fine. Kinda a crappy bug or maybe a setting I need to change to be able to keep my iPod plugged into my powered usb hub when I boot so it doesn't hang.

  • Keyboard plugs into the back of my display does not work? but when I plug the keyboard into my MacBook Pro it works fine? is it my display Monitor?

    Try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Resetting network settings: Setting>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

When I plug my iPhone 4s into my PC, I get a message that says iTunes needs a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. It wants me to uninstall both the AMDS and iTunes and then reinstall iTunes. iTunes won't recognize my phone and so I can't synch it. Has anyone else run into this problem recently and how did you resolve it? Thanks!

Thank you both. I suppose I should have prefaced my question with the concern that I've read a number of other posts from people who have had a similar issue and when they tried to follow the directions, they ran into a multitude of other problems. As you might imagine, I'm hoping to avoid the creation of new problems as I try to solve this one. Thanks again.

    Hello People!
I'm getting an error message when I plug my iPhone 4 into my computer.  It says, "This iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Moblie Device Service has not been started."  What does this mean?  I've never had this error before.  It's also giving the same message with my iPod touch.  Please help!
    Thanks,

You can easily check whether you've the Apple Mobile Device in your computer.
Right click 'My Computer' , then Manage => Services and Applications => Services.  Apple Mobile Device is listed in alphabetical order.  If none, it means you've not download iTunes into your computer yet.  If yes, please ensure the Apple Mobile Device is in 'Started' status.
    Good luck

If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
    Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.
