Plugging/Unplugging headphone socket sound balance problems

Hi,
When I plug and unplug a mini jack into the headphone socket (either with a headphone or my desktop speakers) the sound moves over to the right channel. I can bring the balance back in system preferences, but I have to do this every time I unplug. Any solutions?

I would try a NVRAM rest:

If no success, delete the System Preferences plist per these instructions:

Ciao.

  • IPhone 4 just upgraded to 4.2.9.  First time I plugged headphones in, phone doesn't recognize when they are removed.  I have tried repeatedly plugging/unplugging headphones, but still no speaker volume.  Any ideas?

I have recently upgraded my iPhone 4 to OS 4.2.9.  After plugging in headphones, I can't get the speakers to work.  I have read a few articles online that suggest inserting and removing the headphone plug into the jack, but this hasn't worked.  Any ideas?

Just read another article that suggested blowing compressed air in the port.  After trying this, the speakers were working again.

I plug in my headphones and no sound comes through the headphones, but can hear music from the ipod. Anyone  have any solutions?

If you truly own an iPod classic, I'm not exactly sure how music can be heard playing from it, since it doesn't have an external speaker.
Have you tried a hard reset yet?  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
It might not hurt to try a different set of headphones as well.
The last resort is to restore the iPod to factory settings via iTunes and if the issue still persists, it's likely a hardware problem with the headphone jack.

  • K7N2-ILSR (MCP-T) Sound balance problems

I’ve searched the forum, but didn’t find any really good answers on this particular problem — the one post I found that was exactly my problem was made in 2002!  I can’t roll back my nForce driver that far.
So, the situation.  I’ve recently bought a surround headset and thus finally set my nForce2 into 5.1 mode.  I noticed that the sound starts properly centered (and yes, the balance slider is in the central position), but the very moment I touch my Master volume (or balance) it jumps about 10% to the right or so.  Quite likely a driver problem, but I’m using the newest nVidia drivers and I don’t know if there’s anything I can do (and I can’t tell this nVidia directly (and I doubt they care about nForce2 much anymore anyway)).  I don’t recall being frustrated about it in normal headset mode with my previous set, so I guess it’s specific to 4 and more.  And it happens regardless of the cloning/delay or LFE settings, the channels of the sound being played, anything.
    Any suggestions?
(That reminds, the rear/centre/bass + spdif bracket has such a big bottom side, the only place it could have been put in easily was the AGP slot’s row… now it’s on the bottommost place, but rather tightly next to some jumpers… no damage done though It all’s just odd; silly design!)
EDIT: modified title to make more sense.

    Yup, that’s the one.
Nothing changes if I unplug the microphone.
I have no idea where to get an older driver, it’s also not necessarily a bug that didn’t exist earlier.  If you could direct me to sound drivers I could try, I’d be really happy.
As for the bracket and the bottom slot: the bracket’s design is completely nonsensical.  The lower screw that holds the plastic in place for the metal frame is about two centimetres long, and so is the plastic there — result: it either gets in way of the FireWire connector jumpers, the BIOS chip (yay for Award style CMOS setup though ) or some capacitors, or the sound jumpers (which are used for the front outlet if the computer case supports them, mine doesn’t).  The only place where the bracket doesn’t get in way of anything, is the hole right in front of the AGP slot   So yeah.  The other brackets are done right and their bottom end never conflicts with anything on the motherboard.
Anyway, the bracket’s design has nothing to do with the bug, it was just an aside.

  • When i plug in headphones, the sound still comes through the computer.

I have them plugged into the right slot but it comes through both the headphones and the laptop. I updated the drivers and ran a systems check with the HP Support Assistant but it couldnt find anything. Is it just a setting problem or is it something wrong with the hardware?

  • Iphone 3gs 32gb white sound balance problem!

Hello, i bought my iphone 3gs on 17 June 2009 from a swiss apple reseller and carrier. Well i am very happy with my iPhone, but i noticed something strange: when i play sound, no matter if is an aplication playing the sound or an mp3 or an ringtone, everytime the left loudspeaker is loder than the right. The Loudspeaker on the right is very down on output and the left loudspeaker very high. I don't know if this is a hardware problem, thats why i came here to ask, what this could be? Or if its a software related problem? Greetz

PS: I thought the iphone 3gs is stereo? hmm...
It is stereo with headphones or docked speakers. Even a second speaker on the phone would not give you sufficient separation to discern two channels.

  • Sound balance problem

Nothing else is wrong with my computer except the balance of the sound. I notice that the sound decides to set the balance more to the left when it wants to. I'm doing nothing to change it. I start playing some music and then it sounds a little funky and I look into my sound preferences and I notice that the balance is more towards the left. Any help? Thank you.

    Hi Kirk,
Have you tried to go into Audio MIDI Setup, I believe you can adjust balance from here.
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup choose Audio Devices - you can configure speakers and at the bottom you should see volume sliders 1 and 2... fool around and see if you can get a better balance...
If all else fails, try opening GarageBand, it seems by doing this it resets the audio properties, don't ask how...

  • Sound Balance Problems

    Hi,
Don't know if anyone had experienced this:
When I use the headphones/earphones with the Z10, the left earphone is very loud, while the right is very quiet - giving a very annoying audio experience. Does any one know if there is an equaliser function in the Z10 or could this be a hardware issue? Tried using different headphones and same results.
    Thanks

    Hey Kevlin,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the post.
We are going to need to gather some logs from the BlackBerry Z10 to find the root cause of this issue.  Please contact your network service provider and ask to be transferred to BlackBerry.
    Thank you.

  • Sound on my iPhone 4 , turns really low when I plug in my headphones or a device then turns back to normal when I plug the headphones/device back out , tried turning off , using the troubleshoot turn off and shouting at it please help

The sound on my iPhone is perfect until I plug in speakers or headphones
Then the sound halves and won't turn all the way up, when I do turn it up the
Sound just switches off till I turn it back down low to wear it works ,
When I unplug headphones/device sound returns to normal

Normally, an iPhone will remember what you had your volume set to right before you unplugged your headphones last and set the volume back to that when you plug them in again. Do you have a habit of tuning your volume down before unplugging?

To: Subject: New Apple MacBook Pro with Cirrus Logic CS4206(AB75) chips...
    Hello:
I found your e-mail address at your website and I hope that you can route this to the correct technical people at Cirrus Logic. I recently received an Apple MacBook Pro Mid 2009 model which is brand new to replace the Late 2008 model. It is possible to run Windows on the Mac using an Apple technology called "BootCamp". Apple supplies the drivers required by Windows for all of the hardware in the laptop including the sound drivers. On this model, the sound chip is supplied by Cirrus Logic and is a CS4206. The problem that I as well as many other Apple users with these new laptops who also run Windows is that our sound volume coming from the onboard speaker is not nearly as loud as when we are running Mac OSX with is the original operating system. There is also a red light coming from the headphone jack indicating that the optical output is always on. Apple has not acknowledged the problem so far: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2037093&tstart=0.
Once again if you could please route this to the right people. There must be someone at Cirrus Logic with some knowledge of this.
    Thanks.

  • MBP late 2009 getting delays/timeouts while mount/dismount or plug/unplug

    sigh
    Running a MBP late 2009 with 3GHz, 8GB RAM and 500GB HDD (300GB free).
When I mount/dismount a drive it takes up to 1 min for the finder to respond again (getting the whirling ball).
When I plug/unplug headphones it takes up to 1 min for the finder to respond again
    (getting the whirling ball).
Shutting down means it gets to to final screen and stays there for 2 min, then it powers down.
After any restart, it would mount/dismount plug/unplug fast (within 1 or 2 sec's). Then after a few min's, above behaviour starts.
So I do not get any crashes. I get delays where the finder is blocked for up to 1 min.
I updated to 10.6.4 some weeks ago and it started around that time.
    What can I do?

So I deleted cache files for various apps (incl. finder) and ran several tools (ie. mycleanmac) and still the same behaviour:
Whenever the finder has to update some settings, ie. disks, networks, screens, outputs... it hangs for a full minute and then goes on.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you in advance

  • I connected my iPod Touch to a stereo system phono input using a cable with stereo jacks (red and white) on one end and that plugs into the iPod's headphone jack.  The problem is that the sound is extremely muffled and bass-heavy, with little treble.

I connected my iPod Touch to a stereo system phono input using a cable with stereo jacks (red and white) on one end and that plugs into the iPod's headphone jack.  The problem is that the sound is extremely muffled and bass-heavy, with little treble.  I have to turn the bass control on the stereo receiver to pratically zero in order for the sound coming through the stereo to be acceptable.  Is there a setting on either the iPod or the stereo that I need to change in order to fix this?

The phono input is for a phonograph.  The iPod does headphne output is not that same as a phongraph output.  Does th stero have an AUX input?  That should be compatible.

My balance sounds horrible when is at the center ... it only happen when I plug my Headphones... if I move the balance to the left/right i have a mono sound in my headphones left/right

I too am experiencing this issue after upgrading to Mavericks. Headphone audio balance seems to always stick to the far right. When moved to the center, it still only outputs sound to the right side. I have to constantly adjust the setting a little to the left of center for both sides to output sound equally.

    Hey there Srkupo,
It sounds like your vocal audio is not working with your headphones connected to your iPhone. I would start with the troubleshooting from the following article to help troubleshoot them named:
Resolve issues with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch accessories
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2634
    Update your software
Install the latest version of iOS. You can see which version is on your iPhone by going to the About screen.
If the device doesn't update successfully, the issue might be with your device and not the accessory. Learn how to check your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Disconnect and inspect the accessory, then restart your device
Disconnect the accessory and turn it off, if possible.
Inspect the connection between the accessory and device and make sure that no debris or other damage is present.
Restart your iOS device by turning it off, then back on. When the Home screen appears, reconnect the accessory.
    Try a different device
Make sure the issue is with the accessory, if possible. Always use an identical or similar, compatible device with the accessory you're troubleshooting.
If there's static coming from the left audio channel when you use headphones, try connecting the headphones to a similar device.
If the device isn't syncing when connected to the dock, connect it directly to the computer using the Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or try another USB port.
If you're using Lightning to 30-pin Adapter in a connection chain, try using the same adapter on a similar or identical device.
Restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore your iOS device. You should rarely need to use this step with an accessory issue. If the issue only affects a third-party accessory, contact the manufacturer before restoring the device.
If this does not resolve the issue could you elaborate on where you are listening to this content from to help isolate the issue?
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling
