Plugging working internet cable into Airport disables connection

I updated MacBook Pro to 10.7.3 and Airport 7.6.1.  Now Airport utility shows I have no internet connection, no DNS and ethernet is unplugged (yellow indicator for internet and flashing yellow indicator for airport in utility).  If I plug ethernet cable into my MacBook Pro, internet works fine (internet light shows green in Airport utility, Airport light flashes yellow), but as soon as I plug the cable back into the Airport station, the internet light goes back to yellow and the Airport light continues to flash yellow.  In other words, plugging a working ethernet cable into Airport disables the connection.  I can't figure out what's going on.  Any help please!

I reinstalled combo update, unplugged airport and cable modem for an hour, reconnected both and all is well again.

  • When i plug my network switch into airport extreme it affects my wireless operation

I have a gigabit wired network with a 16 port unmanaged switch. I have a TWC cable modem, connected to the AE Tower. When I plug my wired network into one of the LAN ports on the AE, I can no longer connect to the internet. I have my Extreme set to "Create a wireless network" and it's connected to the router via DHCP and NAT. When I disconnect my wired network, I can once again access the internet.
The switch seems to be operating correctly, I can see and access my other computer when it connected to the router. I can't seem to determine why connecting the wired network causes the loss of internet connectivity.

    Temporarily, disconnect the switch.
    Restart the AirPort Extreme
Temporarily, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop directly to the Ethernet port on the AirPort Extreme. Check to see if you can get a good Internet connection that way.
Then, test the other 2 Ethernet ports on the AirPort Extreme the same way.
    What happens?

  • Can't plug sync/charge cable into iPhone connector port

Somehow, some debris has found its way into the dock connector port on my iPhone. I think it may be a crumb from a bagel (now you know what I had for breakfast today). Anyway, before I realized this debris was in there, I attempted to plug in my connector cable but it wouldn't go in due to the debris. To make matters worse, I think that when I tried to plug in the cable, it only jammed it in further. I tried to get it out by gently tapping my iPhone against my hand and also blowing compressed air into the port with no success. I might be able to stick a pin or something similar in to get out the debris but I am afraid I might damage the contacts on the connector.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this problem? My iPhone needs to be charged so I need to get this fixed quickly.
    Eric

I appreciate the word of caution although I had already thought of that.
Has anyone encountered a problem like this and have a solution? Is it safe to stick a tiny rigid object in there to get the obstruction out? If I head over to my local Apple store, would they be able to help me with this problem?

  • Can't connect to internet using my airport, PPPoE connection. Any suggestions?

I am trying to use my airport express as a wireless router. My internet connection is a PPPoE one.
    Any suggestions?

Is it really? In the apple web page it says it´s a router that you could use for an apartment network, up to 10 users. That´s actually my case. It´s still an old one that I haven´t used for almost 3 years. Bought it in 2006.

  • I already have a router and I'd like to use Time Capsule just for its hard drive capacity right now. Is this possible? It keeps asking me to plug an ethernet cable into it.

So I live with 3 others who already had a router running. So for ease Id like to use this device as purely an external hard drive and occasionally back-up my files and store photos/video etc. Is it possible to use this device strictly for that or do I need to constantly give it an internet connection and back-up over wifi that way...?

Suggest that you consider the option to configure the Time Capsule to "join" the existing wireless network there and backup over the wireless. The Time Capsule functions simply as a wireless hard drive in this type of configuration.
Open AirPort Utility and click Continue to to follow the guided setup to configure the Time Capsule.  Select the "Join a current network" option when it appears and then choose the option to have the Time Capsule "wirelessly join the network" on the next configuration page.
Continue to follow the prompts to complete the configuration.

  • I got an itouch in January and it is no longer charging.  I have tried plugging the usb cable into the adaptor and charging in in the outlet and have also tried charging it by plugging it into the usb port on my laptop.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

My itouch won't charge.  I keep getting a warning that the battery is running low.  When I plug it in nothing happens. Thanks.

  • When I plug an HDMI cable into my Macbook Pro, it just turns itself off. Help?

So I am trying to hook up my non-retina Macbook Pro to my HDTV to use it as a higher quality monitor, but one of two things always happens. When I try pluggingg in the HDMI, then turning on my Mac, it fails to detect the display. If I plug in the HDMI when the Mac is already on, my laptop will just turn itself off immediately. If anyone could tell me what I'm doing wrong, or if i need to get something else, it would be greatly apreciated.

I am wondering if you may have some debris in the output port where the plug is not allowed to be fully inserted.  If not, take to an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.
    Ciao.

  • System hangs up on plugging the USB cable from SCXI1600 into my PC

    Hello there,
My PC hung up twice during installation on plugging the USB cable from SCXI1600 into my PC.  I have installed Labview 7.1
followed by NI-DAQmx 7.4 drivers.  I then plug in the cable into one of the USB ports and then switch the power on on the chassis,
SCXI-1000.  My PC immediately goes into safe mode switches off and turns back on.  I do not know why this has happened.  It has worked
    fine prior to this.

    Morning!
I figured out why my system was switching to safe mode and shutting the moment I plugged in the USB cable from my SCXI-1600.  That was the instruction coming in from Norton Anti-Virus which saw the power and data coming through the USB as a serious intrusion into the system and automatically shuts down even without asking me.  I now need to know how to change the setting on the Anti-Virus to recognise SCXI as a client on my computer.
Thank you to anyone thinking about this prob.
    Cheers.

  • Can i plug printer into airport extreme while it is on

Can I plug a usb printer into airport extreme while it is on?

I cannot find airport in finder, don't know how to turn it off.
You will have to pull the power plug from the back of the AirPort Extreme to power it down. Wait a few seconds, then plug the cord back in.
Or, you can pulll the plug where the power supply plugs into the wall socket if that is easier.

  • Qwest DSL and Airport Express connection question

I've recently purchased DSL service from Qwest and I'm using an Actiontec GT701 modem (also supplied by Qwest). When plugging the ethernet cable directly into my iMac, I can easily connect to the internet. However, when I plug the ethernet cable into my AirPort Express and try to connect wirelessly, I've not had any success. The AirPort on my iMac easily locates the AX signal (as it will also do for the Qwest modem), but subsequent attempts to wirelessly connect to the internet do not work. I repeatedly get an error message: "Unable to connect to the internet" (or something similar).
Qwest customer support has not been able to provide any solutions.
Any suggestions will be most appreciated. Thanks very much.

Also, one other question: the DSL with Qwest is set up as a "PPPoA", and the iMac seems to be looking for a "PPPoE". Are these two compatible, or should I perform any additional set-up/configuration changes with the AX or my iMac?
No these represent two different methods of encapsulating the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP).
PPPoE = Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet
PPPoA = Point-to-Point Protocol over ATM
This may represent a problem as, far as I know, AirPort products don't support PPPoA. Typically only the device directly connected to the ISP or the modem needs to be set up for either PPPoE/PPPoA. All other would use "Using DHCP."
I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with PPPoA setup. Maybe someone else in these Discussions can chime in.
You mentioned that you tried to change the DSL over to PPPoE. Is that an option that is available to you with the DSL service your ISP provides?

  • Can't create a working Wireless Network using Airport Extreme Base Station

    I don't know what I'm doing wrong...
I've got the cable from the modem going to the base station. I follow ALL on screen instructions. I select "Using DHCP" because when I plug the ethernet cable into my MBP it automatically does everything for me, and has that as its setting as well.
I get to the stage where it asks whether or not I'd like it to share an IP or go into bridge mode, I'm not sure what either of these two mean...I've tried both and both result in no wireless internet.
On several occasions I get to the end, and after I do the "final" update is comes back with one problem - internet connection, saying the router doesn't have a valid IP.
I'm totally lost on what to do here...
If you need more information just ask...please...

The below procedure is described in your AirPort setup manual, but it can be a little confusing. Here is my step-by-step procedure for an AEB setup for the system you describe:
    A. Setup the 'Main' Base Station:
    1. Do a factory reset of your AEB (main), then turnoff the DSL Modem and the AEB (main).
    2. Check ethernet cable connections:
    - DSL Modem > AEB (main) WAN port;
    - AEB (main) > Mac computer running OS X 10.5.x.
    3. Power-on DSL Modem and wait for it to initialise.
    4. Power-on the AEB (main) and start your Mac computer.
    5. Open AirPort Utility and select the AEB (main) in the LH pane. Click 'Continue' and give the AEB (main) a name and an admin password (twice). Click 'Continue'.
    6. Select 'I don't have a wireless network and I want to create one', click Continue.
    7. Give your network a name, select WPA/WPA2 Personal and insert the wireless network password (twice) - use 13 alpha/numeric characters for password. Tick 'Remember this password in my keychain'. Click 'Continue'.
    8. Select 'I connect to the Internet with a DSL or cable modem using DHCP. Click 'Continue'.
    9. Click 'Update' and wait for the AEB (main) to restart.
    10. Disconnect the ethernet cable between your Mac and the AEB (main).
    B. Setup Client computer
    1. Open System Preferences/Network/AirPort.
    2. Against 'Network Name:' select your network (the name you gave it at A7).
    3. Click 'Advanced' and select TCP/IP. Against 'Configure IPv4:' select 'Using DHCP', then click 'OK'.
    4. Click 'Apply' and exit System Preferences.
