Plugin compatibility

Hello all,
I have been using fce 3.5 for some time on a G4 (non-intel). I have some third-party plugins. Any thoughts about what happens when I move over to my new intel based machine (this week!)? Compatability with version 4? Thanks!

In general, the plugins should work. However there may be some technical issues if the plugin is not fully 'universal'. You will have to check with the author/supplier of the plugin to verify its suitability for Intel-based Macs & compatibility with FCE4.

Hi Patrick,
I loaded all 3 demos both in FCP 5.1 (using the installer) and FCE 3.5 (just dragging them to its Plugins folder). They load and they seem to work. I say "seem" just because I haven't yet tried to go through all the instructions and to apply different values to the controls: I just tried a few to see some effect of the filter, and they behave the same on FCP and FCE.
In any case at this point I would be confident there is no problem.
Are they coded in fxscript or fxplug ? I wrote some myself for FCE using fxscript and they work fine in FCP as well.

Camera Raw plugin compatibility

I have Photoshop CS2 and LR 4.4. Also, Nikon D80 & D800. Can I get the Camera Raw plugin update?

The latest compatibily ACR Plugin for PS CS2 is version 3.7.
Lightroom 4.4 is the equivalent of ACR 7.4 and has support for both of the cameras you quote.
If you are doing your processing of the raw files in Lightroom you can use the "edit in" function to send the file to PS CS2. When you get the miss-match warning select the option to "render using Lightroom" option.

Photoshop PlugIn compatibility

Can anyone confirm, that Photoshop PlugIns are not compatible w/Aperture and cannot be used? My main PlugIn set is Nik's Multimedia Color Efex Pro 2.0 and was unable to find the answer. If it was already discussed, sorry for bringing it up again.
BTW - those lovely sounds which are demoed in Aperture's QTs - all those menu sounds - are there for real or these are just System Xsounds from the user?

Aperture currently doesn't support plug-ins at all. Presumably any plug-ins for future versions would have to be written for Core Image - PS plug-ins are never likely to be supported.
Interface sounds - those must be system sounds, there's certainly nothing like that built-in, and to be honest they would drive me nuts!

Photoshop Plugin Compatibility with X201

I have an X201 Windows 7 64 bit which I use with the Lenovo Thinkvision L220X via the USB digital Port Replicator. All of the drivers are up to date.
Photoshop CS5 works with this setup.
However, when I install the software for the Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 plugin, Photoshop wont open.
When I uninstall Nik Silver Efex Pro 2, Photoshop does open and works properly.
Any suggestions on how I can make the Nik plugin work, please?

looking at this, you will need to contact the software developer of the plugin for assistance as your Photoshop fails to function when it is installed.

How to run 32-bit PS plugin on CS5 in 64-bit Mac processor?

I have developed an automation plugin for PS CS 3,4 & 5 using CS4 SDK in 32-bit Mac processor. I wanted to have a single build for all the three versions. I am unable to run my plugin on CS3, it loads, but no dialog comes up on clicking the menu item. I have used ADM suites for the dialog. I am unable to spot a solution, please guide me...
Also, another problem with this is that the plugin works for CS5 in 32-bit mode, but the plugin doesn't load when tried with CS5 on 64-bit mode. I made changes in the PiPL, but still no change. I referred the steps mentioned in the documentation for creating a 64-bit plugin, but in the "Step 3: Fix entry point and PiPL", it says that the entry point needs to be changed. But, the entry point mentioned is different from the Automation plugin entry-point. Can you please suggest a way to overcome this problem?

Update on the plugin compatibility with CS3.. It looked like an ADM compatibility issue.. I changed some suites versions.. Now, I am able to display the dialog, but now I have spotted a bigger problem.. that is, that the plugin aborts when it encounters an "sSPBasic->AcquireSuite" statement. I can't see why.. The error code is 1394689636 which points to "S!FD", i.e., Suite not found.. How can this be? Please guide... Its urgent..

What is the highest Firefox version that supports my favourite plugins ?

I marked the 4 plugins I will not relinquish even if they are no longer available in higher versions. That case I will not update.
OR, what substitution is available instead of them ?
Anyway, all info I have about Fox plugins that my favs are no longer supported, new versions are coming out more and more often, and this ruins plugin compatibility. I have no specific detailed info, neither have time digging in mozilla forums or support pages for hours. I rarely found useful info there in the past.
I'd like someone who spends 12 hours a day here to post corresponding links.

tab kit won't work - i don't know what you are using it for exactly, but there is [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus tab mix plus] that allows you to tweak tab settings in lots of different ways and [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/colorfultabs colorful tabs] for colorful tabs ;-)
since firefox 10 the addon compatibility system has changed to match the new rapid release cycle - so those addons will still be working after each update.

Eclipse plugin output

I'm having, or at least think I'm having, a problem with the Eclipse
plugin that I'm hoping somebody can help me with. I'm not getting any sort
of feedback when I enhance or perform schema operations. The Kodo View in
Eclipse shows nothing and one or both of the Log/Output panes of the View
go gray. Shouldn't I expect some sort of output?

Its probable that when you select yes, that actual work is not getting
done and the error is not being logged correctly. How did you configure
your database connection? If you select yes (e.g. actually create the
tables), can you see the changes being made in the database? If not, are
you able to connect using Kodo standalone?
We focus our plugins towards major releases and can't verify our plugin
compatibility with each minor or milestone release. Sorry about the
difficulty there. Unfortunately, Eclipse's API often changes drastically
without notice.

are After Effects plugins compatable with motion?

i use my sapphire plugins with motion
go to motion preferences
at the bottom of the general tab it says "3rd Party Plugins"
Click choose and navigate to where the plugins are stored on your machine.
Quit motion and re-opne (so that the changes can take effect)
When you re-open it the filters should come up in your library under 3rd party filters.

East West plugins missing in Logic Pro

I have been to East Wests site to get the mac installer for EWQL Gold. I installed it making sure to install the AU. I opened the stand alone version which works no problem. Then Iopened Logic Pro 8 and the EWQL Gold is not there. All my other Plugins are showing up.

Since they are still working on their new long delayed stormdrum and piano libraries, I suspect it could still be months before they release the PLAY version of EWQLSO.
While EW doesn't develop the kompakt player, it is their fault that over two years after the first intel boxes shipped, they are selling software that isn't intel compatible. And they weren't forced to develop their own plugin, they had the option of converting their libraries to a newer version of kompakt/kontakt months ago but decided against it.
Their libraries are good, but I strongly disagree that their support is "spot on". They have been promising intel support for a year and a half, and have yet to deliver. Their latest libraries (with the new plugin) still have a number of bugs months after release. And everything they have released in the past year has been months late, including their last two new PLAY libraries, which were supposed to ship I think April, and still aren't out.
And don't even get me started on the way they run their company. They have made MANY promises to customers about support and compatibility in order to sell libraries, and then not only gone back on those promises, but flat out lied and denied that info was ever on their website. If people think the censorship on this board is bad, EW not only deletes any post pointing out promises made and not kept, and bans the user account.
Some nice libraries, but the way they run the company and treat customers makes me unlikely to ever buy anything from them again. It's a shame they don't just release libraries for EXS, or other open player formats and not have to worry about the nightmare of plugin compatibility.

Adobe CC just installed Acrobat DC. Where are my plug-ins from Acrobat 11? I use PitStop Professional but it is not in the tools panel. Do I need to reinstall?

Acrobat x 10.1.0 and pitstop pro 10 u 2 makes opening pdfs slow

As we know pistop is a must plugin for those who reorginase pdf files. I was trying this program and found it works very well before ver acrobat 10.1.0. But when I updated to acrobat 10.1.0, Openning pdf file becomes a hard thing,taking 30 seconds or much longer. I know I should ask surppot from Enfocus, but I am wondering whether there is way to disable some plugin temporary? Adobe maybe fix this but we could not wait.

Correct, we can't help you with third-party plugin compatibility on these forums. With the upgrade from 10.0 to 10.1 we gained Protected View sandboxing, for which many plugin vendors will need to update their code.
All plugins for Acrobat on Windows are based around ".API" files - if you can find the .API file which Pitstop adds to your Program Files/Adobe/Acrobat 10.0/Acrobat/plug-ins folder and temporarily move it elsewhere (or change the extension to something like ".APIBAK", it won't load until you put it back.

Firefox doesn't complete downloading of a file; locks up

Every time I download a file from the Internet, about 5% away from completion, Firefox stops responding and locks up my computer. I go to task manager or click the close buttons; get a message saying Firefox is not responding. I shut down the computer; restart and when I attempt to open up Firefox I get a message indicating I have to restart the computer. So that gives me two restarts before I can get the download again. At that time, two downloads are starting. This happens every time I go to download a file from the Internet.
I am using Windows 8; 32 bit Firefox (should be using 64 bit); version 17.0.1 on a dual monitor setup

Mozilla does not build a 64-bit version of Firefox for Windows, I think because of plugin compatibility concerns. The 32-bit version should work.
Could you try disabling Firefox's built-in virus scan feature? This submits the download to your antivirus software and there could be a problem with the hand-off. Most antivirus software will scan the download anyway, so this feature is redundant if your software supports "real time" scanning. (Which it should!!)
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the filter box, type or paste '''scan''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click '''browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone''' to switch its value from true to false. You're done with about:config.
Does it make any difference?
