Numerous instances of "plugin-container.exe" causes crash.
Viewing pages that use plugins such as Flash or the Adobe Reader plugin open new instances of "plugin-container.exe" in the processes. The problem is that each of these instances continues to run after the page using the plugin has been closed or navigated away from causing large drain on system memory. They can be shut down manually from Task Manager but this shouldn't happen in the first place. I have since downgraded from Beta 12 to Beta 11 where this does not happen.

last week pc worked fine...
this week downloaded 3.6.4 firefox and everything now crashing cant use u-tube or or listen again facility...
come on fire fox get your act together...The Malwarebytes web page is available. I just checked it, so the problem is somewhere on your end.
That '''''Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED)''''' makes '''rjohnson19''''s suggestion valid. I did not see that in your initial post.
Did the problem start ''<u>'''immediately'''</u>'' following your un-install of McAfee and install of Norton?
Did you use the McAfee removal instructions (including the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe))? See: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507
Note that Norton also has a removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
*Is Norton properly configured for Firefox? See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firewalls
*Are you having problems accessing any web sites other than anti-malware sites?
*Have you tried updating Norton? Does it update?
*Try going to the McAfee site and see if you can get in.
*Did you try to download Malwarebytes from another non-infected computer at another location as I suggested?
*You may also need to access that Malwarebytes forum page from another non-infected computer.
*Call a friend, give them the addresses and see if they can access both of the Malwarebytes addresses.
*If they can, then that will confirm what I suspect; that you have a malware infection that will keep you from downloading, installing or updating anti-malware applications.
If this is being caused by malware, you may need help from one of these expert sites (all free, just read their requirements and follow the instructions they give you):

Why does plugin-container.exe so often crash when closing PDF files?
When I load multiple PDFs in Firefox to check their content for errors one by one, closing one PDF tab to reveal another PDF tab very often causes plugin-container.exe to crash, which means I have to reload each remaining PDF tab to view the remaining files. This of course defeats the purpose of opening more than one at a time, and actually adds about 5 times as many clicks to the whole process because I have to clear the error and reload each page, then it might happen again or might not. It doesn't happen every time I close a PDF, but about 1 in 4 times.
I realize I have two versions of Acrobat installed (Acrobat 9.5.5 and Reader 11.0.10), and thus two Firefox plugins, but for the record this same thing happens on other computers that just have Reader or just have Acrobat, so it's not an issue of conflicting plugins. Though I did notice you aren't allowed to disable just one or the other -- deactivating one deactivates both. At first it seems not to, but if you reload the plugins page, you'll see both are actually off.
Windows coughs up the following error report when plugin-container.exe crashes, but Firefox says nothing, I guess because the plugin-container is a standalone app:

Appreciate any help available in resolving this crash.Somehow this bug came up on my radar yesterday later in the day: the first two comments indicate different plugins, and the third refers to the Acrobat plugin:
<blockquote>This seems to happen if Adobe Reader is used for displaying PDF documents (pdfjs.disabled set to true and Preferences > Applications > PDF to "Adobe Reader (in Firefox)").<br><br>Opening two tabs displaying PDFs and closing one crashes the other one.<br><br>Was able to reproduce with Firefox 36.0.1 and Adobe Reader plugin "Adobe Acrobat 11.0.10.32". When I tried to reproduce it later again in the same profile (or on Nightly and Beta), the tab didn't crash.</blockquote>

Sounds like your issue, but it's puzzling that they got a tab to crash and in your case only plugin-container.exe crashed. -
My computor had been overly slow which was not normal when looking at processes running in task manager I found plugin-container.exe to be using alot of memory. I looked online and found that this was an update of firefox which was not essential, I then looked on my C:\ drive for the application and deleted it hoping this would solve the problem as I could not find it when looking at my firefox plugins. However now when I open firefox it quickly crashes, how can I reinstall this? Do I need to reinstall firefox completely or is there a more simple solution? I have done the firefox plugin check and it can find no problems.
Probably the easiest way is to download Firefox again from http://www.mozilla.com and re-install it.
If you want to disable plugin-container, see the section on "Disabling crash protection" at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin-container_and_out-of-process_plugins -
This happens to me and to two friends of mine. So it's hardly a coincidence.
I have done a fresh Windows 7 install (for other reasons) so I thought this problem (which I had since about version 8.0) would disappear. I was wrong.
Firefox and plugins are updated:
Firefox 13.0
Shockwave Flash 11.3 r300
GPU video drivers are also updated.
I came across the "plugin-container.exe solution" but it didn't solve the problem.
How to reproduce the bug.
Visit Youtube and click on some video. Minimize Firefox. Wait some seconds. Next time you restore the window Firefox crashes, you have to kill plugin-container.exe from the task manager OR you have to restart the entire browser in case you've disabled the plugin container.
The same bug should occur when having various tabs open and one of them is Youtube with a video playing. But also when Firefox has no focus and you have other windows on top of it (and a Flash video running or even paused).
Since this does happen:
-with a fresh install;
-with everything updated;
-even disabling the plugin controller;
it seems very very strange to me that this problem is STILL present since version 8.0 (or even before) and that there is so few reports of this bug around the internet.
I'm not complaining here, I'm just showing my perplexity about almost noone having this bug which is ruining my (and my friends') Firefox experience since the past years.
My purpose here is:
* to let you know about this problem;
* to know if other are experiencing it;
* hopefully to keep giving support to this thread and answer to your questions about this bug so to help this thing being fixed;For problems that occurred with Flash 11.2 and earlier, you might want to consider disabling graphics hardware acceleration in both Flash and Firefox.
'''Flash'''
Right-click any video in Flash Player and choose Settings.
Clear the checkbox for "Enable hardware acceleration"
'''Firefox'''
Save all work (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
Restart Firefox. -
* I work on windows XP
I have latest fire fox and silver light plugin
* "silver light plugin has crashed" is what i get when i try to attach files in hotmail
* error report indicates about plugin-container.exe.
* where to find plugin-container.exe. to install and tryHi,
Please also try to '''Disable''' the Silverlight add-on in '''Tools '''('''Alt '''+ '''T''') > '''Add-on''' > '''Plugins''' before opening Hotmail. You may still be able to attach files. -
After downloading 3.6.6, plugin-container.exe allows an unknown website to continually stream audio through my speakers, even after firefox is closed. I kill the process in task manager and it still relaunches itself. I found this file also running by search my computer PLUGIN-CONTAINER.EXE-15EDC9DD.pf in c:\Windows\Prefetch. When I kill that process, audio instantly stops. But it relaunches after 10 minutes or so. The process eats up lots of memory. I've had to restart firefox in safe mode several times as it crashed even before opening. 3.6.6 is majorly flawed and I'm running Windows XP. Time to downgrade to 3.6.4

Plugin-container.exe causes windows crash that causes Firefox to crash
Any help that can be given with this problem would be appreciated.
I'm running an older machine (Windows XP SP2). I was having a problem with Firefox 9.0 redirecting my search results to other sites. Scans with Norton and Malwarebytes showed no malware on the system. I upgraded afew months ago to Firefox 12.0 hoping that would fix the problem - thinking it was Malware and not bothering to check the support website here. That didn't fix the problem. So over the weekend I uninstalled Firefox 12.0 completely from the system - including my profile information. I did a clean install of Firefox 17.0. I think the redirect problem is fixed, but now I have a new problem - nearly every website I go to I get a windows error "Runtime Error. Virtual C++ Runtime library plugin-container.exe R6030 - CRT not initialized." This locks up Firefox and causes it to become unresponsive (so I can't get a Firefox crash report).First try to update XP to Service Pack 3 and all other most recent updates. Then try again.

FF takes forever to close (minutes). When using process explorer I see that as many as 15 instances of plugin-container.exe will be opened during the shut down process. I think this means that a plugin is crashing. I disabled all of the plugins and it still happened (but maybe not so many times). An obvious answer is to leave FF open but that seems kinda dumb. I haven't seemed to be able to find this addressed anywhere. I am using updated Xp, on a many year old machine. Please help.
Thanks, John Rooks
(also, my submit button doesn't work when I try to send this in via the feedback form. (happy, sad and idea page)It is caused by Firefox asking plugins like Flash to remove their cookies and other locally stored data.

FF15 hangs whenever plugin-container.exe is loaded in memory
I need help. Since at least in v14 and now v15, FF hangs becoming unresponsive whenever plugin-container.exe is loaded in memory, as monitored with Process Explorer of SysInternals. This happens in FF with all plugins manually disabled and with no extensions, loaded in either "normal" or safe mode, even after having reset it to default state in about:support. (The unresponsiveness is not absolute, since every some 90 seconds there is a brief refresh of the screen as indicated by an acknowledging screen change due to a prior click or mouse motion. (In this quasi-frozen condition, FF slowly ramps up its memory usage while plugin-container keeps alternating between two smaller vales in Process Explorer.) After some 15-20+ minutes, plugin-container unloads itself and FF starts responding again. If I then visit a page that triggers the loading of plugin-container, the described problem develops once more. Blocking the loading of plugin-container (e.g.,renaming or moving it out or blocking it with the firewall) hangs FF. The solution for FF 3.6.6 for dom.ipc in about:config does not work in these versions.
Ironically, the Mozilla support page about "Firefox crashes when loading certain pages" (http://goo.gl/i02Xz) is a page that loads automatically plugin-container and hangs my machine, so I had to enter the forums by selecting a different problem.
This occurs in a Windows-7 machine with sufficient memory (1025 MB physical, 1025 MB virtual) and a lean configuration (monitored and enforced with Autoruns and Process Explorer), which runs very well other browsers such as Chrome, Opera o IE9. I have been using FF since its v2 and would hate to switch permanently to a different browser. Any informed advice on how to fix the problem (or disable the plugin- container in a working manner) would be much appreciated. TIA.<b>Solved by blocking the loading of Plugin Container . . .</b>
Searching in the bugzilla.mozilla.org site for text or attachments on bugs related to <i>dom.ipc.plugins....</i>, I encountered several references to a Windows environment variable <span style="font-variant: small-caps;">MOZ_DISABLE_OOP_PLUGINS</span>, for example in the patch at http://goo.gl/jYJKL. I then added this variable to the Windows 7 system environment of my machine setting it to 1. It works : FF15 no longer loads plugin container (and therefore does not hang) when visiting web pages that before froze the browser.<p>NB : As I discovered shortly thereafter in googling this environment variable, this method of blocking the loading of plugin container was already reported 3 weeks ago by <b>big_v</b> in the Mozilla support forum, http://goo.gl/v7prA. Chapeau. -
Can I disable plugin-container.exe in 20.0.1 and still stream video?
When I try to stream TV shows with Firefox, I receive high Firefox disc usage warnings from my Norton antivirus. I believe this is due to the gigantic plugin-container.exe that Firefox apparently runs the Flash player inside of. When I look at it in Taskmaster plugin-container has been using 150 k + after just a few minutes and continues to go higher the longer I watch. If I continue to watch without doing anything, eventually the video begins to stutter and then stops while the sound keeps playing. My system slows down to the point where it takes 5 min to stop the player after clicking the control, and a half hour for my system to process the commands to shut down Firefox and restart.
I've been able to work around this by putting the AV into extended Silent Mode to save CPU and by closing the browser after each and every episode, then reopening it again. Obviously this isn't an optimal solution.
I tried shutting down plugin-container using the Taskmaster but this also killed my video. When I closed the window and restarted the video, the plug-in-container came back. In this current version of Flash 20.0.1 is there a way to disable it forever that will also allow me to stream video? IE8 didn't play nice with web pages but Firefox isn't playing nice with video streaming. Is there a fix that doesn't involve a new PC?

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. We know the problem isn't with Flash because I was running it without huge background files or lock-up up while using IE8.
Installing an older version of Flash isn't an option because newer versions resolve some of the memory usage and flickering problem that older Flash versions caused on the new Hulu site. Some sites also require the newest patch and return an error message if an older version is detected.
I'm not sure what protected Flash mode does or doesn't do and hate to mess around with Flash when we already know it's been running without issues on my system using the other browser.
What I DO know is that the problem only started occurring when I made the switch from IE8 to Firefox. This weekend I had it happen again when I only had Firefox open and the Norton AV running out of Silent Mode in the background. Only the Flash thumbnails on the Hulu home page were active, not the Flash player and I started to get slowdown and lose mouse control.
I posted the issue over on the Norton forum also but don't expect a workaround. I think disabling that huge plugin-container file might help. By the time I've watched one video both Firefox and plug-in container are up around 200k each, much,much, much larger than anything else running on my system.
So is disabling plugin-containter still viable? Firefox crashing is never going to happen, if plug-in container freezes up my system first. Continually closing and reopening Firefox as a workaround doesn't seem to be way it was intended to perform. -
How can I disable plugin-container.exe ?
The plugin-container.exe has basically rendered my browser worthless and seems to be a growing problem. I've tried completely uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it, updating Flash and all other associated Adobe products, but nothing helps. The plugin crashes Youtube (always) and pretty much every other video I try to watch. When I shut it down in task manager, it crashes the page, and when I reload the page it starts to run again. This has become a seriously annoying problem, and if I can't fix it I'm going to have to give up on Firefox as a browser. I'm not sure what you've tweaked over the past year or so to destroy a perfectly good browser, but whatever you did it was a huge mistake. Many of my friends who recommended Firefox to me have already abandoned it due to this problem and I'm ready to myself. It's just to buggy and it wastes too much time to struggle with it to watch a video.
First, install this; It will help

I have been receiving this error now for a few weeks and have been through multiple layers of IT help trying to resolve it with ADP/Chase Payroll services. When I go to print pay vouchers I get the plugin-container.exe error and I can not print the vouchers. I can provide screen shots if this would help. Can you please advise on how to proceed to resolve this?
This is an issue with that plugin crashing, which isn't something we can really resolve for you. Try to disable it, find a replacement, update it, or contact their support

What is the plugin-container.exe file? It seems to be using 70% of usage of my computer's memory. How do I get rid of it?
Plugin-container is an "out-of-process plugins" crash protection, see for more info the link, and if you want to disable try the analytical info :
