Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working. Program is closed. Mozilla Firefox(Not Responding)

First I get a message that says: non responsive script on page with the options to continue or stop script. Then I notice at the top of the window Mozilla Firefox(non responsive). Then when I click the "X" to exit I get the box from Microsoft Windows which says:" Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

  • Starts to load homepage, then Windows message: "Firefox has stopped working" All this after a Firefox update

Directly after an update, Firefox will no longer start. It begins to load my homepage, then fades away with the Windows message "Firefox has stopped working"
Looking at Norton security history, I see it blocked plugin-container.exe about the time the update was being downloaded.

I don't know if this is exactly the same problem, but here's what happened to me:
One day when I opened Firefox I got a prompt for updates. I got upgraded to version 3.6.16. That was over a week ago. This morning, I opened Firefox, got a prompt for updates, clicked ok, and I ended up upgrading again to 3.6.16. Norton gave me a notification about some file being used by fewer than 100 people and having "medium risk", but I wasn't able to take any action, just read.
Once that upgrade went through every time I tried to open Firefox, it'd pop up, I'd click no to "Do you want Firefox to be your default browser" and then it'd go white and freeze up. I'd get a message from Windows that there's a problem, Firefox has stopped working, it will be closed. No information was sent regarding the problem.
When I'd open Firefox I'd see two tabs: one about the upgrade to 3.16.6 along with an invitation to upgrade to version 4, and another being my homepage to yahoo.com.
I also have Internet Explorer, so I opened that, went to Firefox's website and downloaded version 4. So far that has taken care of the problem~I can use Firefox again.
However, I did have a couple small difficulties while downloading version 4. Right off it would not immediately start running. That was blocked by my Norton. So I had to click on "click here". Also during the process I got a message about two add-ons being incompatible, so they were disabled, and no updates could be found. They were: Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.2.1. and Norton Toolbar 4.6.
I worried it was a virus but it seems like more of a compatibility problem involving maybe Norton? I have the 2010 version and haven't upgraded to Norton 2011 yet.
Anyway, like I said, so far version 4 is working fine, but I thought I'd pass on the incident.

  • I get the "firefox has stopped working" message after closing browser

    Hello.
My problem is that when I close the FireFox browser I get the "FireFox has stopped working" message. It's pretty annoying. I've read some other posts here that described a similar problem and have tried some of the suggestions in them including:
A clean install, a browser reset, running in safe mode, unchecking hardware acceleration, disabling extentions and plugins one at a time, uninstalling my antivirus (avast), rolling back to version 23.01 and checking run in compatibility mode that someone claimed helped them. None of this was effective.
It seems like after a computer restart the browser will be ok for 2-4 closings and then it will start with the message on every closing. Also, after I uninstalled avast it was good for 6 closings. Rolling back also gave me about 6 message free closings. But then the messages start and doesn't stop.
Is there anything else I can try? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

One thing is for sure, and that is if the only page i visit is the Google homepage (not logged in) or this site (mozilla forum), the problem does not occur, ever. I can't make it happen.
If i visit yahoo.com (not logged in) (or ighome.com, logged in), as examples, it happens every time.

  • I've installed Firefox 3.6 running under Vista V6.0 Service Pack 2. Any attempt to do anything at all with it produces a Windows error message that Firefox has stopped working and it then closes Firefox. Is this a Vista issue?

The download and install processes seemed to work OK
The first Firefox window opened suggesting I update Adobe Flash Player. Clicking on download (with AV s/w either on or off made no diference) produced the Windows message that Firefox had stopped working.
By-passing the Adobe download suggestion and attempting to open up my home page (Google) produced the same result.
In fact any attempt to do anything, i.e. hitting the Enter key or left-clicking the mouse, produced the same result. Firefox freezes and WIndows then closes it.

Try to update Windows Vista Service Pack 2 using Windows Update, then select all high-priority or important updates, install them and restart the computer. Run Firefox. If it works fine then OK or if it crashes then there was no problem with the operating system.
The second method is restart your PC, after the manufacturer logo appears and before "Microsoft Corporation(C)" progress bar appears press F8 key. you will be presented with a menu with options-
    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt
etc. select "Safe Mode with Networking , and then login to your user account. Run Firefox again. If it works normally, then that probably means that your PC was infected prior to installing Firefox. Update your existing antivirus and run a full scan or acquire free Antivirus like Avast Free Antivirus etc.
If it still crashes, then try re-installing NOT Repairing Firefox AFTER INSTALLING AN UPDATED ANTIVIRUS .
OK the last way, better uninstall Firefox 3.6 and install Firefox 4 Beta 7. Firefox 4 Beta 7 runs 3 times faster than Firefox 3.6, with an overall improved interface.

  • "Firefox has stopped working" message everytime the browser is closed

Everytime I close the browser, I get "Firefox has stopped working" message. I have Firefox 18 on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
I also uninstalled and re-installed firefox but the issue still remains

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the [[Uninstall Firefox from your computer#w_uninstall-firefox|Uninstall Firefox]] article.
'''IMPORTANT:''' On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do '''not''' check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox [[Profiles|user profile data]] will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
    * '''(On 32-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox''
    * '''(On 64-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox''
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the '''Program Files''' folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the '''Program Files (x86)''' folder.
#Look for a '''Mozilla Firefox''' folder. If you find one, right-click it and select ''Delete'' and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Browser Install Fails, it says "Firefox has stopped working" and it does not install. I cant use your browser.

I had few issues with Mozzilla browser so i uninstalled it completely and tried to re install it again. But when i try to reinstall it , it does not install fully , it breaks half way and says, Firefox has stopped working. I cant install Firefox now. Can you help.

    Try this instead:
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Start the installation with a double-click on the desktop icon
Make sure that your security software isn't causing problems.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

  • How do I suppress "plugin container for firefox has stopped working" ?

I am doing some Flash programming and using Firefox to debug. Every time I end the debug session from Flash Builder I get the error "Plugin container for firefox has stopped working". Is there a way to suppress this false error message? There is not a problem with the container or any plugins, simply that Firefox thinks the container has crashed because it is being closed by the IDE. I have already had to change several options to suppress false error alerts, but just seem to get new ones like this.

Firefox uses the plugin-container process to run plugin out of the current Firefox process (Out-Of-Process-Plugins) and you may not see the plugin mentioned. Flash uses protected mode by default and that causes two plugin-container processes to be active.
You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
*check for updates for your graphics drive drivers<br>https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

  • Firefox crashes with error message: "Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working"

When I open Firefox it seems to be working fine for one minute, then everything freezes and I receive the following error message:
"Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working
--> Check online for a solution and close the program
    --> Close the Program"
Neither option restores Firefox and I'm left with a frozen (white blurry Not Responding) screen. When I click on the X button, then I get the regular "Firefox is not responding" message and the whole program just shuts down.
Should I disable all plugins and / or this plugin container? How can I do that, if Firefox keeps crashing?
Basically, how can I fix this? Thanks a lot!

I found the issue was with the Nik Filters I was using. The filters were messing with Photoshop's initializing. I uninstalled and reinstalled the filters and now Photoshop works like a charm.
It appears this forum is dead?!
Thankfully, I was able to troubleshoot on my own and figured out the problem...

  • How can I fix a "Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working" error?

    Windows 7, Firefox 30
After changing how Firefox handled cookies (changed to forbidding 3rd party cookies, asking permission to set cookies), I rebooted my system, and Firefox would not start - I got the error message in the question. I uninstalled Firefox, and then re-installed, and Firefox ran fine. After some hours, I closed Firefox and rebooted the system, and again, Firefox hangs upon start, and I get the Plugin Container has stopped working error message.
Since Firefox won't work on my Windows desktop, I'm using my Linux desktop to look here for help. The problem details reported are:

plugin-container.exe is crashing repeatedly. The error code is 0x80000003, the faulting module is mozalloc.dll, version 33.0.0.5397, fault address 0x00001425. Hardware acceleration is disabled, and I have disabled all plugins in an attempt to cure the problem (only Acrobat and Flash were enabled, and Flash is up to date).
(Edit) I'm running EMET 4.1 - if this is memory-related might that be significant?
Here are some crashes from the past few hours (many more if you want them)

The crashes are intrusive but Firefox itself is not usually affected - so isolating the plugins works as intended.

  • Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working ~ DivX Web Player plugin crashed

    Hi Everyone,
Probably I should begin by saying anything computer-related is like walking blindfold in a pitch dark room. Seriously "tech-impaired" here (i'd go to someone who knows but tight budgets are a pain too... so if anyone here could help fix this I'd be forever thankful.
The first part of the title line is what appears to me in a little message window. YouTube and Hulu work OK, but there's this site "Icefilms (dot) info" -the one that I mostly use- that's the one with the problem.
It was all working just fine until last Monday night (June 20/2011) and it's not just with Firefox that I have this problem, cause when i tried to use Google Chrome it was the same thing, which makes me think it's not an Internet browser problem, I tried changing Firefox (5) to an older version, but instead of just the video widow, the whole thing crashes.

  • Plug in container for firefox has stopped working

I am not "computer savvy" regarding technical aspects of troubleshooting problems and error messages. I am frequently receiving the error message "plugin container for firefox has stopped working". Is there an easy fix that a novice can apply to fix this problem? I really need simple easy to understand instructions for correcting this error. Thank you for any assistance.
