Plugin lib3ivxEnc.dylib troubleshooting on FCP 7

I have FCP 7.0.3 on OS 10.6.8 and recently it crashes after 2-3 mins with message error saying it is caused by plugin lib3ivxEnc.dylib. Any solution? This is very problematic I can't use FCP anymore!! Help

IMovie09 crashing won't start - " lib3ivxEnc.dylib" plugin

Help - iMovie 09 crashes every time I try to start it up. I think this happened after installing the latest update but not positive since I haven't opened iMovie in a few months. It was working perfectly before.
When I opened iMovie the first time after update it asked me if I wanted it to render thumbnails for iphoto movies, it cycled through that process, began optimizing movies, the hung, then crashed with the error "iMovie quit unexpectdly while using the lib3ivxENc.dylib plugin."
Now every time I try to open iMovie, it briefly displays the "Optimizing Movies" progress bar which then vanishes, i get a beachball, then iMovie hangs on Updating Project Thumbnails and then crashes with the same error.
HELP - what do I do. I can paste in the crash log if that helps.

Looks like this is a problem with the 3ivx codec which iMovie uses for Flip SD clips.
The easiest way to fix this would be to remove everything out of /Library/QuickTime except:
AppleIntermediateCodec.component
AppleMPEG2Codec.component
Keep those two. Then if you have Flip SD content you will need to install the latest Flip software.
If you still crash, post the full crashlog.

LiveType Crashes Previewing Certain Effect - lib3ivxEnc.dylib

Hi,
I've used LiveType before (with FCE) and have now installed FCS2 (with FCP 6, LT 2.1.3 etc.). However, poking around the LiveType text effects - the application always crashes on me when previewing certain effects. For example if I launch the application, go immediately to the "Effects" tab of the Media Browser, then click on "Barrel Jump" the beach ball appears and I crash with an error saying the problem appears to be with the lib3ivxEnc.dylib plug in.
I've updated the SW with all the updates - still crashes. I followed the FCEHD removal instructions http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301182 (improvising on the way for other FCP pieces), reinstalled the suite again last night, left it unpatched and still no joy. Though I have noticed that without the patches applied the app will sometimes show me lines in the preview and remain up. I've even once used the effect in some sample text but then it crashed again later when I started to go through the Media Browser again a few minutes later.
I've tried different accounts on my machine - but LiveType still crashes, so it's not a user setting/config thing (or doesn't seem like it).
I've done a number of searches in this forum and Google in general and have not seen this reported before - so I'm assuming something in my setup is messed up and causing this.
I'd love to know if:
a) anyone has an idea of what might be wrong or what I can do to correct
b) has full FCP removal instructions in case there is some piece still hanging around that I haven't found and is not being overwritten during the install
c) has advice to reinstall just LiveType and it's components instead of the entire suite
The only thing exciting in my setup is that the LiveType support files are all on an external FW800 drive since my startup drive is around 30GB and won't hold it all without busting open.
I've considered a fresh install of Leopard and then FCP to see if that works - but I'd love a less timely solution if possible.
I've not installed this on my Laptop (not sure it meets the specs) to see if it's reproducible there but might to see. Right now this is all happening on my PowerMac G5 (Leopard 10.5.1).
Let me know if I've left out any details to help you understand the issue better and if you have any suggestions.

I think I'm making progress.
I again tolled the system for FCP components using the FCEHD article. I think I ended up removing a bit more than last time. I also tried the 3ivx uninataller and it failed So I simply trashed the 3ivx folder in apps and again the 3ivx software in the folders referenced by the Apple article.
This time when I started the FCPS2 install, all components listed themselves as "Install" instead of a few showing "Upgrade" before. I installed only LT this time and after the installation I ran LT and the effects worked fine! Whew!
I've now restarted the install for the rest of the FCPS2 apps and we'll see if everything works OK afterwards. If not - then other part of the suite is causing the issues.
Good point about permissions - I've not done that in a while since I've been deleting and installing so I'll be sure to do that after the install completes.
I'll post again once the install works (or doesn't).

AE Error message: Unable to locate plugin "Boris Red 3.0 FCP Filter"

I have edited a project in FCS HD and went back to make some changes and now when I open the project I get an error message that says "Unable to locate plugin "Boris Red 3.0 FCP Filter."
I used the Boris Red application to make some effects and had no problem with this before. I have located the filter in the users library/Application support files but I can't get Final Cut Pro to accept it. I went to the Boris Red website and found no help there, nor have they responded to my requests for assistance so I thought I would look here.
Another user posted this same problem at another website and the responses he got were not useful either. Can anyone help?

I re-installed the program and nothing changed. How do I retro FCP?
The older version I used does not work on Intel Mac Pros and the graphics card it requires is also obsolete. (Actually, it died and couldn't be replaced which forced me to drop my G5 and get a new MAc Pro which started this whole nightmare in the first place!)
So am I screwed? There really is no way to fix this and save all that work now? I have the After Effects program so would it be better to just forget about Boris altogether and redo the entire project in After Effects?
If so, I can't believe what a waste of time and money Boris is. All because FCP cannot locate ONE filter? When the filter is sitting right where it is supposed to be?

Audio Plugins - Waves Diamond Bundle - w/FCP?

I have just installed the WAVES Diamond Bundle in hopes of using it to clean up Audio in FCP. After install, I do NOT see them anywhere in FCP.
-Should FCP recognize Waves plugins?
-Should SoundTrack Pro?

Sorry for the delay...I've been out of the country the last week.
My recollection is that the Waves Shell should match the plug version. For instance, v4 should be WavesShell_4...v5 plugs should be WavesShell_5. I don't have the latest...but I assume it is the same. There is also a variant to it related to the bundling. For instance, the Vocal Bundle requires the VocalWaveShellx.
All of these should coordinate, and can cause some problems if not. If you own version X...I believe you should be able to download the cooresponding package that will contain the Authorizers. From the cooresponding authorizer (Waves Authorizer 5 or Waves Vocal Authroizer, etc.) you should be able to install...this was regardless of your WUP status. WUP status used to relate to calling in for Tech Support or getting a discount when upgrading.
With all of that said...I do know they have changed their WUP policies in the last year. It would be very discouraging to me if they discontinue former product downloads based on that! Sorry I don't have more information. I'll look around.
I don't believe the 5.0.1 will break your iLok for v4 plugs... But to my knowledge, the version 5 waveshell only supports v5 plugs and will therefore not be of any use to you.
My recommendation would be to get the latest download package from the waves site (if possible) that corresponds to the package you own. This should not require additional iLok authorizing...but will update any plugs and the shell to their latest versions.
If you own v5 and v4... check your iLok to see if you have the v5 license either downloaded or installed, download the v5 Diamond package from waves. Archive all your current stuff...and then delete the relating v4 shells and plugs. Reinstall the v5 waveshell. You should be done.
If you don't see it in your iLok...I would contact waves support (thier support telephone number is listed on thier website). Tell them you have a licensing issues, I believe licensing issues are excluded from support aggreement. Once they help you get the license to your iLok...then follow the above steps.

When I go to Youtube, certain videos will not play now. This only happened after I downloaded firefox 4. I tested all of the plugins like the troubleshooting page recommended, but still nothing. Any help would be nice. Thanks.

If I try to play a certain person's vevo videos for example they won't play. Other videos posted by people will play, but it seems like if it is an official page by whoever (Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, etc) they won't play and I have no idea why.

It seems to be any videos that have an ad that play before them won't start. I'm thinking it may be an issue related to Flash.

Porting FCP plugins to After Effects

I bought some 3rd party plugins from sheffield softworks for FCP, but I want to use them in adobe after effects. Is it some way to port them?

Sadly, there is no direct way to interface FCP plugins to After Effects. Which plugins were you looking to use in AE?

CANON EOS MOVIE E1 FCP PLUGIN

I downloaded the new EOS Movie E1 FCP plugin which is appearing in FCP log and transfer window. I have canon 5D files that I am attempting to transfer. I was under the impression that if your file structure is not 100% what it should be the files can still be transferred. That is the case with me, I copied these files from a friends hard drive to edit but the structure is not 100% what they originally were. Can I still use this plugin or should I just do the job in compressor.

What's that Canon folder? Just a folder with the clips in them? If so, that's right it's not going to work with log and transfer. Use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip to transcode the media to ProRes or ProRes LT.

FCP X crashes after I look at my video effect plugins

I recently downloaded some video effect plguins for final cut pro x. After I download them I opened up FCP x. When I looked at my new plugins, it glitched and went red (the plugin showed blank red), my FCP crashed and will crash whenever I look at the new video effect. How canm i fix this?

Loading FCP without plugins

I would be most grateful if someone could remind me how to open FCP without loading its associated audio plugins. (One of my plugins, I believe, is causing FCP to crash). I am using Mac OS 10.4.9 on a Mac Pro Intel.

is there an easy one-step way to do that? i don't know of one but would be glad to be educated on that.
for a manual method there are a couple of primary plug-in locations:
/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins
and
~/Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/Plugins
removing or renaming those Plugins folders in those locations will prevent FCP from loading the contained plugins on launch
there is also the Plugins folder located inside the application bundle ... "Get Info" on the FCP application icon and you will see a Plug-ins section where you can enable and disable the plugins contained within that application directory
and finally, now, with the support for the FxPlug architecture, FCP will also load compatible Motion plugins ... I have no idea where they live!

oh bugger. but you're talking about audio plugins... those are probably in:
/Library/Audio/Plugins
and
~/Library/Audio/Plugins
someone more knowledgable will know for sure

FCP Crashes every time I load this project

I am quite new to FCP and recently have been sent a project that was originally laid down by my colleagues in India. He has sent me supposedly all of the files on a DVD, when I open the fcp project I get the message I have to reconnect the media, this I do but some files cannot reconnect. during this time before I get chance to render the project and all within 1-2mins of loading the project the program crashes with an error report stating "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly while using the lib3ivxEnc.dylib plugin". There is a long list of text that I do not know what it means but I cannot simply open the project without crashing.
Can anyone help direct me what to do?

First of all, have you moved the project in question, media and all to one of your hard drives?
2nd, try NOT reconnecting, then saving the project under a new name, exiting FCP, opening the new project and relinking the media. If that crashes, Digital Rebellion has a utility that will examine all the media in an FCP project and tell you which is corrupt.

If you don't want to spend the money, try this:
Open the saved project, don't relink the media. Select half the clips in the browser. Right/ctrl-click and select Relink. If that is unsuccessful, open the project again and select the other half and try again. If successful, save and select half the remaining, relink, repeat.
The goal is to half-by-half find out what media is crashing your system.

Transferring from Vegas to FCP

hi all,
has anyone had to / managed to transfer a work in progress from Vegas (PC) to Final Cut Pro (Mac) successfully?
From what i can see, Vegas can export AAF, but FCP can't read it.
FCP can read XML, but Vegas can't export it.
Tried exporting an EDL from Vegas, but FCP won't read it!?

We used to use 'Cui Bono - EDL Convert' to make DAW's talk. We would go from/to VEGAS Pro Tools Cool Edit Pro. It seemed to work well enough to get the info out of one and into the other. Naturally, we still had to do some tweaking to get things totally back in order. But this was when I was heavy into Audio Production. I'm not sure if 'Cui Bono - EDL Convert' does video. You may want to check 'em out and see what there Support recommends.
The guys I work with at a local Studio are telling me to bring the project in, Export to AVID, then let the AVID Exort to FCP. Obviously I can't do that but if you have an AVID readily available... this may work for you.
3rd suggestion is to look into 'Automatic Duck'. They have a plugin that will convert VEGAS FCP.
4th - I would say... do this project in VEGAS.
Personally, my VEGAS system is SOLID. Once I get a project there, it usually stays there till Final Export.
Remembering my days of Audio work and trying to go back and forth between DAW's using EDL's... I do NOT want to go back. This sometimes creates more of a Headache than it's worth. All the time you spend trying to get it to translate correctly could be spent Editing. The Frustration is NOT why I'm in it... I like the SATISFACTION of a completed project.
Nowadays... I Map out my Projects before I start them so I sort of have an Idea as to what/where it will need to go and at what stage in the process. Same as I StoryBoard in PreProduction... I also StoryBoard in PostProduction. May be OverKill but I've found myself running into less problems that way.

"Missing plugin" message

Recently bought a Macbook Pro and cannot access certain videos/images online. Get "missing plugin" message. Using Safari to access internet, Lion is installed, no Safari extensions installed.

Supposedly a problem with Adobe to which Apple Support is unable to propose a solution.

Remove plugins Final Cut Pro X

I've installed several trial plugins for Final Cut Pro X that I'd like to remove now. These include trial Effect/Transition plugins from companies such as Shefield Softworks, Nattress, SugarFx, PHYX, FxFactory Pro, etc. I moved the plugins from the Movies/Motion Templates/Effects (Transitions) folder to my Trash, emptied the Trash then rebooted by MacBook Pro. The plugins are gone when I check with Finder after restarting the computer. However, after I start Final Cut Pro X, the plugins all reappear in both FCP as well as in Finder. How do I remove these?

you're probably using FxFactory
from noiseindustry
in your Apps-Folder, launch the app …
you're now entitled to switch-off and -on individual plug-ins.
(there are some free ones avail, as 'Pan and Zoom', a very handy Ken-Burns-like effect)
under 'Actions' you'll find the deinstaller
