What Bob means is that the system reports the latest version of the application available on your computer. It's not reporting about the file itself.
Incidentally, if the file was a CS1 file, your system would still report it as a CS2 file. Take it up with Apple.

This computer recently was replaced with a Dell running Windows 8.I reloaded my CS2 on this computer & it ran fine with a few exceptions as follows;
when the software comes up initially I get a message that says “could not complete your request because of program error”. Hitting OK allows me to continue using the software .
When I try to activate a function using CTLR or ALT keys I get this message “required application failed to load and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application”. This causes the application to abort.
Reloading my CS2 continues to generate the same messages when I depress the CTLR or ALT keys.

Your original copy is obsolete and Adobe is offering a free replacement you are entitled to. Download and use that and that should clear it up for you.

Problems with Illustrator CS2

Argh! Suspected problem with Illustrator CS2...
When I look in the Stroke/Fill boxes for colours, I have no options available to me. All that appears is this: http://www.ioimi.com/images/strokefill.jpg.
Is this normal? All I want to do is selected different colours for the line stroke and fill colour of something I have already drawn using the pen tool.
Also, how do I move or remove rulers once placed and why is it that if I use the arrow keys on the end of a line it moves it more than one pixel? How do I keep a line straight? It's so much easier in photoshop but I need to learn.

That is not the Color palette, it is the Swatches palette. It's where pre-mixed colours, gradients, and patterns can be stored and quickly applied. The file you are using has no swatches.
You can add your own by loading swatches from any other Illustrator file or from the libraries that ship with Illustrator. You can also add a swatch by mixing a colour in the Color palette and either dragging the colour onto the Swatches palette or clicking one the New Swatch icon (The page icon next to the trash can).

Memory Problems with Photoshop CS2 - RAM not being utlized

I am having memory issues with Photoshop CS2. I have a G5 dual 2.5 with 8 GB of RAM. PS CS2 keeps hanging on me when I'm doing fairly routine tasks with a fairly complex low-res .psd file. It includes several nested layers...etc.
I noticed while running activity monitor that Photoshop is utilizing a very small percentage of my system's RAM. Approximately 475 MB of the total 8 GB RAM and 1.07 GB of harddrive space for the scratch disk. This seems odd as there is over 6 GB of free RAM while this is happening.
I've uploaded a screen capture of my activity monitor while Photoshop is hanging. Note that the CPU percentage is above 98%. That's an awful lot of RAM going unused.

Any idea what's going on here? Could it be a corrupt file or font?

Doesn't completely make sense as I've been using this particular machine for almost two years without any problems working in much more complex and much larger high-res .psd files. I doubt that's what the issue is here. I'm starting to think the file became corrupted...
Hard to believe that Adobe/Apple haven't issued a fix for the RAM issue yet.
I also run routine CRON maintenance using Cocktail and have no other issues with any software....

Java card plugin problem with NetBeans 6.8

Hi, I've got a problem with the netBeans 6.8 i couldn't add a java card plugin at all. I try to run it with the netBeans 6.7.1 and it installs the plugin and adds the java card platform, but when i try to build a sample project I've got an error:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ${javacard/packagerClass}
Any ideas
Netbeans versions: 6.7.1, 6.8
JavaCard version: JCDK3.0.2_ConnectedEdition
OS: WindowsXP

first idea of all: isn't there a netbeans support forum/mailing list/plugin page ?

Problems with Adobe CS2

Hello all-
I have a brand new mac that is less that a week old.
2 x 3 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon
2 GB 667 MHz DDR2.
I used migration assistant from my older G4, Mirrored door model.
I have had nothing but problems with Photoshop and InDesign.
They have been running slow and crashing nonstop.
I reinstalled twice and transferred the activation and I can't figure out what the problem is.
The only thing I can think of the there was a problem using Migration assistant?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Migration Assistant should be fine for data, but avoid like the plague for PPC applications (and support files and plug-ins).
MA = MolAsses - so your "hunch" is right on.
You WILL be in need of more RAM. Depending on the size of files and programs open, but figure if 14% boost to 3GHz over the 2.66, you must want to wring the most - 2GB is an okay minimum. 4 x 1GB straight from Apple, with 2 x 1GB on each Riser. You want to use both Risers, all four memory channels.
Luckily, disk speeds are pretty good and any backup/erase/restore should go quick (just add some nice 500GB drives to compliment the one it came with).

Many problems with Photoshop CS2

Hi,
I noticed many failure on CS2 softwares, i didnt upgrade to CS3 and iam wondering if it it worth the investment looking how much messy CS2s is to my projects so far. I thought they brought in CS2 to solves the many glitches in CS, but...
1 - Illustrator CS2 doesnt not export to gif. I am working on an e-commerce project having to customize hundreds of gif pictures. I am more fluent with Illustrator than Photoshop plus the many vector tools makes it more useful for this kind of project.
- This forces me to try some complicated workflow where i do the design first in illustrtor then export to .psd so i can simply save out as gifs. This is where i found many other problems:
2- When i open these psd that took so many hours to design, i found out photoshop interprets everything poorly. It messed up all the dimensions and sizes.
3- I set document sizes in Illustrator to small sizes even if i imported in a large picture that i use as background (moving and rotating that background allows me to create many variations of my background keeping the same tone), but the exported psd didnt respect the doc settings and instead of cropping brings in the entire file resolution.
4- I dunno if any of you guys have tried to do anything like selecting many layers and rescale them in photoshop? Or simply select a text layer and resize it in photoshop? really painy. Such a breeze in other applications like flash or illustrtor appear so heavy in photoshop, i ended up losing all the harmony of my works, if not my sanity.
Please if someones have ever gone thru all these nightmares before can you explain me how you found way around it would be very nice and helpful.

PS: Had same problem trying to open some design i did and sliced in Fireworks 8 too, when opened in photoshop CS2 everything where 3 times bigger!

How can I fix problems with Bridge CS2 for Mac.

How can I upgrade Bridge CS2 version 1.0.0.545 to Bridge CS2 version 1.0.3. The Installer says that I have a newer version installed. I am running a special version Photoshop CS2. When I launch Bridge CS2 v.1.0.0.545, I get a window saying that "Sorry, a serious error has been detected." This software stays open after clicking the OK button. Please help!

Spent a long time on phone with Apple tech support on this. Here's what users all need to know: it's likely the car manufacturer who needs to upgrade the vehicle software. Pairing problems can happen whenever a phone is upgraded. Now to find a dealer that's open after work!

Plugin problem with one website on my new Firefox browser.

This is my second problem of the day:
When I'm on one particlar website on the "chat" page (which is a streaming, real-time conversation "room"), a gray-black box pops up that says "Plugin is needed to display this content", with an action button, "Install plugin..." Now, the odd thing is that the content is already displayed perfecty and is functioning, but this box is blocking part of it. When I click on the "Install plugin..." button, another window comes up that says that a suitable plugin couldn't be found. But the original gray-black box won't go away, even when I click on the "X" in the upper right corner. ... Obviously a plugin is not needed anyhow; how can I get rid of this box?

Automation Plugin: Problems with Shutdown/Quit on Mac

Hi,
I've created an automation plugin similiar to the listener-plugin example in the sdk and I'm poping up a modal dialog when receiving the shutdown message/call from photoshop. When I quit Photoshop, the dialog shows for about 1-2 secs then vanishes and photoshop crashes. On the other hand, on windows the shutdown process is halted until I dismiss the dialog by button, just as I expected from a modal dialog (and then photoshop exits normaly).
I also tried to receive the eventQuit notification, put this event never ever seems to be sent by the host (both on win & mac).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Tom. I now use a mac os notification class to pop up my warning
message, this works fine. However I'm still lookin for a way to receive event notifications before photoshop has handled them, something like the PreTranslateMessage method from windows/mfc. Would that be possible?
Also, sometimes I miss some of the events, e.g. when closing a dirty document, photoshops asks if I want to save the doc, but I only receive the close-event, not the save-event. I noticed this seems to be the case with all events triggered indirectly, as the save event when closing a dirty doc or opening/closing/saving a doc from my auto-plugin.
So my big question is, am I doing it wrong or am I trying the impossible?

Windows 7, problems with Photoshop CS2 upgrade install

I just upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and I seem to have outsmarted myself. Ever since version 5 I've bought the upgrade... well, now I no longer have the original version 5 disk and can no longer install and use either my CS or CS2 version. While I do have a backup copy of my old version 5 CD copied onto my hard drive it will not install on Win7 and the CS2 upgrade doesn't recognize the backup as a valid upgrade.
When I try to install version 5 I get an error message to the effect that it's incompatable with Windows 7. Trying to install either CS or CS2 and I get a "valid upgrade not found" error... if I let it install anyway in trial mode once it's done installing I get a "trial period is over, enter serial number". I enter my serial number for the version I'm installing and I get "invalid serial number" Invalid? It's the number on the back of the CD case verified 10 times.
Am I hosed or will I have to go back to Windows XP? I've paid for the Photoshop CS upgrade and the CS2 upgrade over the years but neither will install and run since I cannot install the last full version I own.
At the moment I'm having to use my laptop for all my photoshop work since it's still running XP and so it has a functional version of Photoshop.

It works fine.
Right click on the "setup.exe" file on the CS2 install disc and then click on "properties", then click on the "compatibility" tab.
Click on the box for "Run this in compability mode" and in the pull down select "XP sp2".
Click "apply" and then "ok".
Now go back to "setup.exe" and click on "Run as administrator" and CS2 should load fine.

Having problem with Premiere CS2 not recognising AVI from a still Camera?

Wow, My first time back to the forum in 3 month and it's all new!
Since I found "the" answer to a new problem I've encountered I'd like to share it.
I filmed part of a wedding with a little canon still camera (S3IS) on a 4 gb SD card and when I tried to import some of the clips (AVI) in PP2 it failed. A msg told me that my clips were either on the wrong format or corrupted! Strange because I have done it b4 whithout problem and also the first 20 clips were ok. as for the others they opened normally on windows media player and also played ok on movie maker. I also tried to load them into SceneAnalyser Live but without success. However I decided to make a movie out of my problem clips on Movie Maker and ended up with a MVW file that loaded ok into premiere! I tried to change the extention to this format but no go! I wonder if I converted all my faulty AVI files in this format wether it would work, most likely I imagine as I think this is what I actually did, but the long way around.Anyway it's quite a relief to know I will be able to use my clips.
I'm sure someone knows what it's happening here...Eddy r u listening?

Problem with indesign cs2

When i start my indesign problem i´ve recived a box that says
the installer seems to have written the wrong AUM application ID
I don´t know what to do to fix this problem and the program worked smooth as a charm until to day, it´s not expired or is a trail version.
I´ve installed the whole creative suite and it´s only the indesign program who won´t work.
I ve reinstalled it but it won´t work now.
I´ve also gone thrue my computer for viruses and things like that but that didn´t work either.
I´ve installed ad-aware - can that program have caused a problem ?

Let me start with, I'm asking questions from a Mac perspective.
What are you using for font management? Are the fonts located in the same location on each machine? How are the fonts activated? (And, are the fonts auto-activated on each machine? Or is that just a Mac feature?)

I don't understand. That font is only installed on that one machine?
Depending upon your font license -- and it varies from font to font; even with different ways that identical fonts are acquired -- you can use a central server for your fonts, and specify privileges for each user. I use single license Font AgentPro on each of my Macs and like the interface. See if there is a server version for Windows available.

Strange problem with PS CS2

Hi all,
At first I have to say I still use Photoshop CS2 because of my company bureaucracy. Whatever.
I was using PS usually. But since about a week ago my PhotoShop started acting weird.
When I create a new canvas or open a psd or image all click functions get disabled. I can only access menus and/or tools by the keyboard shortcuts, also I can't move the canvas window or resize it.
However, when I select a tool (e.g. Brush) my mouse pointer should be transformed into the shape with the same radius as the selected brush radius and shape. Ok, it does, but when I hold the mouse button to start filling something, it gets back into the normal mouse pointer.
I have already updated using adobe updater, I have tried reinstalling, I have even opened the Welcome Screen with the hope to get something back to normal, but obviously I had no success.
I've searched some forums and support sites but couldn't find anything usefull. I hope you guys can help me!

Actually the mouse works with any program including other adobe programs.
And I believe it's simply plug and play, it doesn't have anything special.
I am working on WinXP, 2GB RAM memory, loads of free HD space. I have already cleaned prefs and .psp files. I really don't know whats going on, but it's really upseting me as I have a lot of work to do in the next weeks and even the IT team here couldn't help me yet.

In a nutshell: Adobe has decommissioned the CS2 activation servers so your original copy is useless now. Adobe has provided a new version of CS2 that does not require activation, as well as a new serial number for legitimate CS2 license holders:
