Plugin to convert current page from bitonal to grayscale

I'm scanning pages in which a few percent include a monochrome halftone image. The image quality is not critical, so if I could just convert the page from bitonal to grayscale, the CVision compressor will handle the de-halftoning and produce an acceptable image. I can do this manually with the TouchUp Object tool / Edit Image and convert the mode to grayscale in Photoshop, but that's too tedious. Is there a plugin or some automated way to do this with one click?

Yes, but I need it to be on a per-page basis, not the whole document. Thus the posting title "convert current page," not convert document. Pdfcompressor's speed is proportional to file size, so making the whole document grayscale defeats the purpose since I want to take advantage of the speed of bitonal and compression of JBIG2, except for those few pages per volume that have halftones. I could also just set the scanner to produce a grayscale file, but that slows down the scanning too. Thank you for trying anyway, and I'm still hoping for a solution.

  • Why a docx converted from a PDF file did not convert 1+ page from the source file?

    In trying to work with data from several PDF files, I subscribed to Adobes's online facility to convert source.pdf to output.docx. Output.docx is missing more than a page of data I need. I don't understand why this is happening.
    I tried then to convert source.pdf to output.xls and the data in output.xls was repeating itself, for example:. This date value  04/22 was converted to:
    04/2204/2204/2204/2204/22
    Could any one here help me with these issues?

    Hi rivalg,
    Do you know how that PDF was created? The quality of the conversion depends largely on the quality of the PDF. It sounds as though you may be experiencing some font-related issues. As a test, you can try converting the file from within Adobe Reader with OCR disabled, as described here: How to disable Optical Character Recognition
    Note, however, if the PDF was created from a scanned document, and doesn't contain selectable text, you won't be able to select that text in the converted Word document. (OCR converts scanned/image text to selectable/editiable text). Nonetheless, it's a good test.
    As for the .xls output, it sounds as though the PDF isn't tagged to show the various cells in the table. Again, it depends on what created the PDF. Not all PDFs are created equally, alas.
    Please try converting with OCR disabled, and see how that goes. If we need to, we can take it from there.

  • Changing current page from backing file

    Using WL 8.1 SP4
    I have a User Acceptance Policy page in my portal, and I want to ensure that users have viewed this page before I allow them to view any other content.
    When users have viewed the UAP, I set a session variable. I then use the session variable in my entitlements, so there's no problem with them viewing content they shouldn't.
    The problem I have is that if users try to access a page directly (or their session has expired), they're left with a blank page (as they're not entitled to see anything), rather than being sent to something helpful (i.e. the UAP).
    So I need a backing file. It can either be on every page (except the UAP), or I can put it on the book - whatever is recommended.
    I've tried this as a page backing file:
    public class UAPCheck extends AbstractJspBacking {
    public boolean handlePostbackData(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response){
    PageBackingContext pbc = PageBackingContext.getPageBackingContext(request);
    if (pbc.getLabel().equals("uap_page")
    || request.getSession().getAttribute("UAP Accepted") != null){
    return true;
    } else {
    pbc.setupPageChangeEvent("uap_page");
    return true;
    I've applied this to pages in my book, however nothing happens - the page change request never fires!
    So what's happening here? Am I misunderstanding what setupPageChangeEvent is for?
    Help is appreciated.
    darren

    In the past I have done it as follows:
    1. Create a backing file for the book that has these pages.
    2. In the preRender of the backing file do the following
    BookBackingContext bbc=
    BookBackingContext.getBookBackingContext(getRequest());
    if( //check to see if page change event is needed)
    {PageBackingContext pbc_current =
            bbc.getActivePageBackingContext();
        pbc_default.setActive(false);
        PageBackingContext pbc_pageToBeShown=
            bbc.getPageBackingContextByDefinitionLabel("//
            def label of page to be shown, in your
            case 'uap_page'");
        pbc_pageToBeShown.setActive(true);
        return true;
    else return true;
    3. link the backing file to book
    Recommendations:
    * Don't use backing files for Portal components if they are not needed. (From your post, if I am not wrong, you are using backing files for all pages in the book which is not necessary and can cause unnecessary complications)
    * Read this doc to understand life-cycle methods of portal components http://edocs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/pdf/taxonomy.pdf
    Peruse the above document to understand what is going wrong with your code.
    * Remember that the life cycle methods for components that are not active will not be rendered if treeOptimizationEnable parameter is set to true ( this parameter can be seen in workshop under property editor)
    * When calling one of the setupxxevent methods, it must be done on the backing context that the backing file is tied to. If you do not do this the event may not get fired. For more info click http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/whitepapers/netix/body.html

    You can download the trial version (http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html) to convert the PDF back to WORD if you do not have the original. The conversion may not be perfect, but it is typically better than starting from scratch. You may be lucky and get a good result. You might check the settings (in the save screen) to try retain format versus retain text flow. The format version can be a pain to edit since it creates a bunch of text boxes. The flow version may require you to reformat in WORD, but you likely would want to do that anyway.

  • So I can update my Oracle Java Applet Plug-in to Development Kit 7, Update 65, can you link me to the correct Oracle download page from your Plugin Update page?

    When I periodically accessed your Plugin Check and Updates web page in the past, I really appreciated you connecting me to the correct Plugin Updates vendor web page when I clicked on your red Update Now button. This time, however, your Java Applet Plug-in "Update Now" button linked me to the Oracle Java "7u65 Updates Release Notes" instead of the usual download page. It seems rather unexpected for me, or any other conscientious user for that matter, to search the appropriate "JDK 7U65" file download from the Oracle website.
    Thank you,

    This is getting way too complicated for normal peop.
    First: the "Update Plugin" does not work, it goes to a page with all sort of computer jargon but no "Update button" anywhere.
    Second: this forum jscher2000 gives a good solution, but I downloaded the incorrect java update, because my computer is 64 bit. how am I supposed to know my browser is what it refers to and that FF is 32 bit.....???$%^&*()??
    Third: some of those "critical update" software are not even on my computer....well at least I don't think it is, I search for "shockwave" and did not find it.
    I love Moz FF but the updating is starting to get out of control. why give us (computer idiot) an auto recommendation update not tailored to our computer? Perhaps in big letters at the top there should be an explanation "this is general suggestion these plugin needs updating, not to tailored with your computer, do your own research"
    and/or add info I need to know like the 32 bit thing, took me forever to download the 64bit update for JAVA and it was the wrong one.
    Now I am just afraid to update anything for FF because it is too darn confusing.

  • I have two pdf docs that I used Acrobat to convert to word docs.  How do I extract one page from one doc to insert into the other doc?

    I have two pdf docs that I converted to Word Docs using Acrobat Pro.  How do I extract one page from the first doc and insert it into the second doc?  When I "select all" it grabs the entire document.  I need to take pages out, put other pages in, and edit some of the text.

    HI djlarp,
    Try triple-clicking in the text that you want to select--it can sometimes be tricky to select text in a converted document. If that doesn't work, it could be that the PDF document was created from a scanned document, and OCR wasn't enabled when you converted the document. (However, OCR is enabled by default when you convert via the ExportPDF website.)
    If you're unable to select text by triple-clicking, let us know. I would be happy to take a closer look at your files.
    Best,

  • I use Acrobat to convert firefox pages to pdf and with firefox4 I need to be able to copy and pasted text from the pdf and no longer can.

    With the prior version of Firefox I could convert web pages (financial data) to pdf for maintaining historical files. And then with the pdf, I was able to copy and paste the numbers into Excel. With Firefox4, I can convert to pdf with Acrobat but I cannot access the numbers for copying and pasting as text, only as a picture. While I prefer Firefox, I check to see if this problem recently started with the "other" company's web browser and did not have this problem. So, it is not Acrobat.

  • How do I insert pages from one PDF into the current PDF in Acrobat X?

    I just upgraded from Acrobat 8 to Acrobat X.
    How do I insert pages from one PDF into the current PDF in Acrobat X pro?  I was able to do this from the Edit menu in Acrobat 8 pro.  Appreciate instructions.  Thanks.

    Hi chemadberk,
    In my Acrobat 8 Pro, Insert Pages is under the Document menu but anyway...
    In Acrobat X, click on the Tools pane(upper right side) then navigate to Pages- the Insert Pages commands are located there.
    Hope this helps,

  • Lost template, have pages from template, how can I convert?

    In a moment of crass stupidity, I managed to delete a template upon which several pages of a site under development are based. There was a P7 menu on the page. Fortunately, I have a couple of pages based on the template alive and well. Can someone tell me how to convert one of these pages back to the template from which it was created?
    Pages from the template are
    http://www.jdcdemo.com/pbc/greater-pine-bluff-chamber-local-apartment-list.html
    http://www.jdcdemo.com/pbc/greater-pine-bluff-chamber-community-calendar.html
    The calendar page is rife with errors of which I am aware. Most are not in the template.
    Can someone tell me how to proceed to recover from my dumb mistake?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Well, we have gotten a lot of looks and no answer. From another board, the first response was the correct one, to wit:
    open a page created from the original (now missing) template
    - go to Modify>Templates>Detach from template.
    - save this via File>Save as template
    - create new editable regions via Insert>Template Objects>Insert  Editable Region
    I took a hard look at the editable region in the file from the template, and set up and named the new editable region as a clone of the original. The pages from the template, worked just fine.
