Plugin Type

Hello,
in the FAQs of the Photoshop API's documentation it is said, that there are seven types of plugins, Import, Export, File Format, Filter, Selection, Color Picker, and Automation.
Which category does a "controller plugin" match? I'm thinking of a plugin processing external events to change brushsize while painting for example.
The newer generation of Wacom tablets feature using the rotate-tool/move-tool via multitouch or controlling the flow-property of brushes using the wheel on the Wacom airbrush. Is that functionality accessible via the Photoshop API? The documentation says in the FAQs: No plug-in tools.[...]No plug-in brushes.
I'm a bit confused. On the one hand the API seems very strict regarding what can be done and what can't be done, but on the other hand, plugins like BLUWIs lalala exist which I can't fit in any of the allowed categories. (http://vimeo.com/20951037)

Does it actually exist. I couldn't find it to download. Does it work for you? My guess, if it existed, was that it listened to events, via listener, and tracked what tool was selected. Then it had a separate application watching mouse downs and mouse ups and played sounds accordingly.
My guess is that it is a cool video. (2 years ago) I did see this on thepluginsite.com "The Bluwi Lalala plugin for Photoshop (for MacOS X 10.5) makes a sound when selecting tools. Not all tools and buttons make a sound, mostly the shortcuts.

That makes it sound like the plugin was playing a sound when a tool was selected and NOT during mouse up and mouse down events.
But, having said that, we have many developers that attempt to change the system menus and do other things that we don't recommend. Some are more successful than others. Most of them have to come out with new versions each time the OS changes version and each time Photoshop changes version.

Help: MIME plugin type x-ms-wmp

Hi All,
I keep getting an error message stating that I am missing the proper plugin to view content of MIME type "application/x-ms-wmp" whenever I visit a particular website. I have installed Flip4Mac, but still it does not work. Does anybody know if there is another solution?

Yes, I have also tried with Firefox (and on multiple computers, all with Flip4Mac installed), and it also did not work.
Any other suggestions that I can try before I call it quits on this one?

Item plugin type label setting

Does anybody know if it's possible to have the same settings for an item type plugin as in the regular text items?

Hi Erik,
it's not in the responsibility of the plug-in to actually emit the label. That's done by APEX. But to show the standard attributes (for example the regions label, element, source, ...) you have to enable those features in your plug-in configuration under "Standard Attributes". I have done that now for you and now they show up.
There is no need for your custom plug-in attributes "Label", "Label Alignment" and "Field Width". Just use the standard attributes.
I would suggest to download one of our example plug-ins to get an understanding how such a plug-in should look like. Also from a security perspective.
Please have a look at the documented source code of "Masked Text" at http://apex.oracle.com/plugins as a starting point for your own plug-in development.

VI name collision using plugin type architecture

I am using LabVIEW 8 and am building an application that will use a "plugin" architecture. There will be a main program built into an executable that calls sub vi's that are in llb's. Some vi's in the llb's will call DAQmx functions, others will do calculations, etc. Some math functions will be done in the main program too.
The problem I am trying to address is how to deal with vi.lib vi's that are used in the plugin llb vi's and the main program. For example, I use Mean.vi in one of the plugin vi's as well as in the main program. Where should Mean.vi be stored? A name collision occurs if it is in more than one location (i.e. in a plugin llb and the main program executable). This can get very complicated if many vi.lib vi's are used in the plugin llb's and the main program executable. How can I distribute vi.lib vi's that are required for my application to run? The application builder is fine for simple distributions but breaking up the application into several modules (llb's) that have functions (vi's) like a dll has some great advantages.
As side issue, does anyone know of a way to assign a version number of a llb file that is visible from its properties window in Windows?

I also use the plugin approach where a compiled .exe plugs in VIs which share vi.lib VIs with the main.exe. I did not yet use LV 8 for this, bit LV 7.0.
In principle there is no problem: the main.exe loads into memory first and with it the vi.lib VIs it contains (say e.g. mean.vi). When a plugin using mean.vi is loaded, it uses the instance of mean.vi which is in memory, i.e. the one which is stored in then main.exe (typically with its front panel and block diagram removed).
The problem starts when the plugin is closed, since the it asks if it should be saved to disk because the path to its subVI 'mean.vi' has changed. This is at least annoying. A workaround is to rename all VIs from vi.lib (and user.lib, instr.lib maybe) and save them to a different location before the .exe is built. That way all namespace collisions are avoided. I wrote a tool to do this renaming automatically. AFAIK there is a better (=more professional) tool for this purpose: the OpenG Builder, see at http://www.openg.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=category&sectionid=4&id=68&Itemid=47. I haven't used it, though.
OTH: My understanding was that all these namespace problems have been resolved with LV 8 since its new application builder supported such autoimatic renamings. From your post I understand the problem is still there in LV8!? So one more reason not to upgrade yet. Maybe others can confirm.

How to use jsp:plugin action with type = bean

Hi everybody,
I'm new to JSP so it could be a stupid question but I'm wondering how can I use a jsp:plugin action with a type equal to "bean".
Everyone is talking about type equal to applet so the browser can display this applet but if the type will be a bean so then
does it mean I can send a javaBean class to the client?
If yes, then can the javaBean object be executed on a client machine?
Or maybe I'm wrong. I don't know how it works.
Please give me a resolution.

How to deploy a JSP with jsp:plugin with applet type?

When I test the applet in the IDE, it returns the values properly, but not in the JSP invokation.

Is your Applet being initialised correctly?
Where have you got the classes for it? I think the applet doesn't need any kind of initialization, because it doesn't have any variables and all the process is made in the method called by onsubmit()
The applet is composed only by one class and I'm totally sure that the class is placed in the correct place.

I am going to test again the call to the applet in order to find some kind of code that can be invalid or that can make the function to "crash"

Error message "Unable to load plug-in type"

Hi I used plugin registration tool and updated an existing plugin by a new dll.. and then afer that I started recieveing error messages on the CRM on our Dev environment. Error message "Unable to load plug-in type" it was registered for contact entity for
post create and update but we are getting this error on any entity updates and creates..
Any help on how to resolve this issue with be deeply appreciated.

While this thread is 3 years old, yet I just encountered the same problem about half an hour ago, and I believe this is a bug within CRM Solution Import routine.
What I had was a plugin which was imported previously. Then, I added new plugin steps and got 'Unable to load plugin type' when registering the new plugin steps I added.
The solution I have is:
a. Import just the plugin assembly without the new plugin steps, and publish.
b. The plugin assembly is now updated with the new plugin class definition. Then add the new plugin steps and import the solution again.
c. The solution should now be imported successfully.
What I believe the bug is CRM Solution Import routine checks for the plugin class/type definition in the existing plugin assembly in the server rather than the new plugin assembly in the solution being imported.
By the way, all solutions are unmanaged. Perhaps, the same bug will not happen in Managed solution.

Can't get jsp:plugin to work with jb5

I am trying to get a Swing applet compiled with JDK 1.3.1 to run on a jsp page using the <jsp:plugin> tag. At this stage it is a ridiculously simple applet (just some JLabels and JTextFields) but I can't get it to work. Here is the jsp code:

When I run it in the jb5 ide nothing shows up at all. OK, I figured the ide doesn't support the plugin, so leaving the ide running (which provides me with a web server) I go into IE (version 5) and enter the url to the page, which is http://localhost:8080/AppletCommunications/GanttApplet.jsp
I get the page, and the gray box saying loading the applet but the plugin console tells me:
load: class nz.astarte.ganttapplet.GanttApplet not found.
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: java.io.FileNotFoundException: http://localhost:8080/AppletCommunications/WEB-INF/classes/nz/astarte/ganttapplet/GanttApplet.class
Why not? Under the directory where the jsp page is located is the directory structure WEB-INF/classes/nz/astarte/ganttapplet and in that directory is a GanttApplet.class file.
I cannot understand why it isn't found. Do applets work with the jb5 ide? Is there something blindingly obvious that I've missed?

I appear to have solved it, but it is not clear to me why.
I created a jar file of the required classes, and placed it in the same directory as the jsp file. My jsp code then looked like:

This works fine. However I would expect to be able to move the jar file to some other directory, so that the jar file and jsp files are separated. I spent hours trying to work out why it wouldn't work when I had the jar
file in WEB-INF/classes (under the jsp file directory) and had codebase="WEB-INF/classes/". In the end I put the jar file into a directory I defined separately called wotnot and defined codebase="wotnot/"
Now it works. However I still think I should be able to have the jar file anywhere, including WEB-INF/classes and would love for someone to tell me why not!

how can i update external type of flashplayer?

Insert applet in jsp using plugin

After adding an applet in a jsp,when trying to run the page it is showing the following error message

As I don't know xml, I am using component palette for adding the Applet.

the codebase reference causes the problem because in Java "\" is an escape indicator. Also, the code sample doesn't work unless you wrap the jsp:plugin tag in a <f:verbatim></f:verbatim> cosntruct

The applet is not showing image on applet when running through following url. Remember It runs by simple applet tag in html but not through <jsp:plugin tag in jsp file.

This jsp:plugin tag should work. BUt the problem is that not showing image from jar file. but ok when used with html applet tag.

i am using jsp:plugin to handle applets.when i am placing the applet class file in the same jsp files directory itself its working.but,when i am placing the applet class file in the WEB-INF/classes directory it couldn't point the class file and its not working.here is the tag,

Hi,
Please check your codebase parameter again. That part of the directory (web-inf\classes is not visible to client i.e he cann't access it. By default the classes stored under web-inf\classes directory can be accessed from the jsp.
Please find the extract from apache site related to this.
"WEB-INF/classes/ - This directory contains any Java class files (and associated resources) required for your application, including both servlet and non-servlet classes, that are not combined into JAR files. If your classes are organized into Java packages, you must reflect this in the directory hierarchy under WEB-INF/classes/. For example, a Java class named com.mycompany.mypackage.MyServlet would need to be stored in a file named WEB-INF/classes/com/mycompany/mypackage/MyServlet.class.

I would like to get Tomcat 4.1.10 to recognize jreversion's other than 1.2.2 when using the jsp:plugin tag.

How can I get Tomcat to recognize 1.4 (or soon 1.4.1) and download the appropriate JRE? I tried looking through some of the config files looking for some kind of mapping but did not see anything.
I know I can use the <b>nspluginurl</b> and <b>iepluginurl</b>, but I really dont like hardcoding links into my code.
As a bonus; is there a way to fill in jsp:plugin jreversion attribute with a JNDI lookup. This would be nice so that I can set all of my JSP's on my Tomcat server to push the latest and greatest JRE with their applets.
