Plugins from Elements 8 to CS5

Hi I have just upgraded from Elements 8 to CS5. My question if anyone can help is I have lots of plugins in Elements
Flood, Topaz Adjust 4, Nik Complete that I use in elements can and if so how do you copy these to CS5?
Or do I have to reload everything?
Thanks in advance.
Mike

With the caveat that not many folks here are familiar with Elements—that's why there's a separate Photoshop Elements forum—I'd say you need to determine that there are 64-bit versions of those plug-ins, then try installing said 64-bit plug-ins in CS5 with their original installer or following whatever installation instructions the developers provide you with.
But, yes, you have to install everything from scratch in any event.  Do not copy or clone them from your Elements install.

  • How to use VST Plugins from Premiere Pro CS5 in Adobe Audition 3.0 ?

I have tried to use VST plugins from Premiere Pro CS5 into Adobe Audition 3.0, but could not use it.Is any method to use them ?

Unless I'm mistaken, you can't do this at all - Adobe lock all their VST effects so that they only work with the app they were intended for. Which also means, of course, that you can't use Audition VST plugins with any other software either. Since Audition isn't currently in the CS, there isn't even an exception there, I suspect.

  • Easiest way to transfer 3rd party plugins from CS4 to CS5?

CS5 is arriving tomorrow and I'd be grateful for a steer on the least painful way to move third party plugins from CS4 to CS5.  I am running W7 64bit.  Can I just copy the plugin folders at Program Files/Adobe/PhotopshopCS4 etc...Plugins and Program Files (86)/Adobe/PhotoshopCS4 etc. and replace the equivalent folders in CS5 with them?
    Thanks.

Photoshop CS5 on Mac OS was reworked on a fundamental level to be able  to run as a 64-application under the 64-bit versions of Mac OS. Because  of this, old and 32-bit plug-ins won't run, can return errors, or cause  crashes when you use them in either the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of  Photoshop. See below for instructions on how to open Photoshop CS5 in 64-bit and 32-bit  modes.
How to run Photoshop CS5 in 32-bit and 64-bit modes
To  run Photoshop CS5 on Mac OS as a 32-bit application:
Select the Adobe Photoshop CS5  application file, installed by default in the Applications/Adobe  Photoshop CS5 folder.
Choose File > Get Info, and select Open in 32 Bit Mode.
Deselect this option to run Photoshop CS5 in 64-bit mode.
To run Photoshop CS5 in Windows as a 32-bit application:
    Close Photoshop CS5.
Navigate to the Program Files (x86) > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop  CS5 folder..
Double-click the Adobe Photoshop CS5.exe file.
To run Photoshop CS5 in Windows as a 64-bit application (if your  version of Windows and your hardware supports 64-bit):
    Close Photoshop CS5.
Navigate to the Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop CS5  folder..
Double-click the Adobe Photoshop CS5.exe file.
This is my first post and hope it was helpful!!  8-)

  • Upgrading plugins from CS4 to CS5

If I upgrade from Photoshop CS4 to CS5, can I simply copy all my plugins from the CS4 plugin folder to the CS5 one? I am assuming here that my plugins are compatible with both versions of Photoshop.

The short answer is yes and no.
Some plugins must be reinstalled, and those may not know about CS5 without an update from their manufacturer.  SOMETIMES you can identify all the supporting files and copy them as well, but this gets tricky.
Others - those that are self-contained and don't install any supporting DLLs, need registry entries, etc. - can be copied.
A rule of thumb is that if you copied a file into the plug-ins folder to start with, you can probably copy it to the new version of Photoshop.  From what I can see CS5 is very compatible with older plug-ins (keeping in mind that 32 bit plug-ins work only with 32 bit Photoshop CS5, and 64 bit plug-ins work only with 64 bit Photoshop).
Never, but never point the Additional Plug-ins Folder setting at the old Photoshop installation, because there are Adobe-provided plug-ins that will conflict.

  • Upgrade from Elements to CS5

Is it possible to upgrade, with a discount, from Elements 9 to Photoshop CS5?

Not anymore, but you should sometimes be able to upgrade to CS6.
I don't think they've offered it yet, though, this cycle.

  • Moving plug-ins from Elements to CS5

    Hello,
I just installed CS5 and have been using Elements 8, i had purchased the TopazLabs plug in package a few weeks ago and now i want them to work in my Photoshop CS5.  Can someone please tell me the steps to take to move or copy them into CS5, i am not 100% sure where they go.  I did see the plug in folder in CS5 in my "program file (x86) >Adobe>Adobe Photoshop CS5>Plug-Ins.  Is that the right path? Also, do i just dump the files in one by one or do they go into a specific folder once i am in the plig in folder itself.  I have 12 differen  folders within the Plug in file/folder.  I need some reassurance to make sure i am doing it correctly.  I dont want to mess anything up with CS5.  Thank you for any help you can provide.

Thank you very, very much for helping me out, i didnt even think about the fact that Elements plug ins may not even work with Photoshop jCS5 so thanks for setting me straight on that.  I really want those plug ins but ever since i installed CS5 i cant get my Photoshop Elements 8 program open, it opens and a split second later it shuts down  and have no idea why.  I was using Elememts that day that i installed CS5 so i know it worked prior to the install of cs5.  I am using windows 7 64bit.  I put a phone call into Adobe who said they would call me back in 8 min and that was at least 2 hrs ago.  I am not to computer literate so i dont dare start messing with files until i get instructions from someone who does know what there doing.
Also, in response to the question about how i got the Topaz plug ins into Elements, well, i installed like normal and then had to copy the file into the Elements folder, it worked perfectly, that was Topaz instructed people to do if they didnt show up when you ran the auto installer.  I will get ahold of topaz and see if there is anything I can do about "exchanging' my elements serial number for a CS serial number, its worth a try anyway becasue i just bought them and I love what they do.
thanks again to all of you who helped me out on this issue.

  • Can I copy a plugin from CS4 to CS5?

I have Nik Sharpener Pro 3.002 plugin with Photoshop CS4 but would like to install it in my new Photoshop CS5.  Can anyone tell me if it is compatible with CS5 and if so how do I install it in my newer PS version please?

You'd be best served seeing if there's an update for CS5 from NIK since the old plug-in won't run in 64bit. I may run in 32bit but there still may be issues.

  • Porting from CS4 to CS5

Im trying to port some plugins from CS4 to CS5. During the process I encounter several errors. Once of them is listed below.
Error 1 fatal error C1189: #error :  DEBUG and NDEBUG are out of sync!    // $$$ need to set NDEBUG in release builds c:\program files\adobe\cs5\indesign product sdk\source\public\includes\K2Debugging.h 53

    Pectora:
Check the C++/Preprocessor/Preprocessing Definitions field in your Project Properties dialog.  Make sure that your Debug version has a "DEBUG" definition placed in there, and that your release version has an "NDEBUG" definition placed in there someplace.  My guess is that either you left one of them out, or that you have the DEBUG definition in your release properties.  Other possibilities are a failure to separate definitions properly or misspelling.
    HTH!
P.S. I am assuming that you are working with VS8 on a Windows box.  This information should be included in your next submission just to make sure we are all working from the same starting point.

  • When attempting to remove the Filmconvert plugin from my machine I noticed my adobe\common\plug-ins\CS5.5\MediaCore folder had Vanished !

When attempting to remove the Filmconvert plugin from my machine I noticed my adobe>common>plug-ins>CS5.5>MediaCore folder had vanished ! and there was also no folder for my cc version at all ? so digging deeper i noticed a large amount of my after effects plugins were installed separately in my applications folder ! I m very confused as to how this has happened and was wondering if anything like this had happened to any1 else ? and how to get everything back to normal ?
Im now worried theres something wrong with my bios on my Mac and i don't no why my plug-ins would have vanished from where they should be installed? as they still work fine in the actual software itself.

If you are on a Mac the Library folder is hidden. You have to jump through some hoops to get there.

  • Trying to find out how to install plugins from Adobe exchange in my Indesign CS5

I click on the install button on the exchange website, then I get a window going to my plugin folder in Indesign CS5 but there is the selection button is gray out. Also I was asking if the upgrade from CS5 to CS5.5 is a free upgrade or you have to pay for it?
I wa also asking how to install the overlay creator panel into my CS5?

Right click on any track in iTunes and choose Get Info from the menu. In the window that opens choose the Info tab.

  • Editing Image In CS5 32/64 from Elements 9 Still doesn't work!  Why?

Ever since upgrading from Elements 5 (which worked fine with the various versions of CS5 fine for years) to v7, v8, and for the past 6 months v9 - I cannot reliably use the Edit in Photoshop command from the organizer in elements!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I end up with the file being deleted or Elements doesn't know that the file is no longer not being edited and refuses to turn off "Edit in Progress".
Has anyone come up with a way to do this that does not result in your file and or catalog not being deleted?
    This is really ridiculous.
Why is this such a problem for two programs that are from the same company?  Not to mention it is a choice on a menu?
Further, it is not specific to just one PC.  I upgraded my Photoshop PC to a newer model during this time and the new one is just the same as the previous.

It’s worth checking that CS5 is correctly set up in the prefs.
    In the Organizer go to:
    Edit à Preferences à Editing
Check the box “Use A Supplementary Editing Application”
Then browse to the Photoshop Editor.

  • How do I switch plugins from CS5 to CS6?

How do i switch plugins from CS5 to CS6?

    Welcome to the forum Steven,
Do you have specific ones you wish to migrate?
I think with CS6 I believe the underlying architecture for plugins was changed, so you may wish to check with the makers to see if they have CS6 compatible update versions available.
I think some had to be re-written under the new framework to be compatible under CS6.

  • Use plugins from the CS5 in the Creative Cloud possible?

    Hi dear Adobe-Community,
I hope I am in the correct forum.
I just want to know if I can use my plugins from the CS5 Master Collection in the Creative Cloud?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards, Dominik.

You will need to check with the companies that make the plugins you want to use. Those companies will know if the plugins you have are compatible with CS6. You might have to upgrade your plugins or the plugins might not work.
Also you can try posting in a specific Adobe product forum. So for example if you want to know if the XYZZY plugin version 3.2 (I made this up) works with Photoshop CS6 post in the Photoshop forum. Adobe employees or other customers will usually know the answer for the more popular plugins.

  • Is there a plugin for Elements 12 which will allow me to download/edit raw images from a Nikon D70?

I am currently using a Nikon D70 and would like to edit the raw files. I think Adobe did a Camera Raw plugin for Elements 3.0 but I would obviously like to buy the newest version of the software and need to know whether it will still meet my demands. If not, how do you get your hands on an old version of Elements?

Yes, photoshop elements 12 should open your Nikon D70 camera raw files just fine.
