Plusnet

As a long-standing shareholder in and business customer of BT,I am appalled by the way in which Plusnet, owned by us
shareholders in BT, is being handled .
BT is giving the impression of being technically incompetent-we have suddenly found out that innocent customers are being threatened because of the unreliability of the technical means to detect Copyright infringement-if we,BT,a leading hi-tech Company in the relevant field, could not have put doubt in the mind of a Chief Master, who can?( He has honestly admitted that he is not competent in the technical field;  how can our Parliament allow such  persons to make serious legal Decisions which rely upon technical evidence which they do not understand ? Surely, an Intellectual Property specialist is needed!)
BT,whose Legal Department is clearly running the Cases on behalf of Plusnet,is also givng the impression of being legally incompetent(I am being very polite!);does that  Department consult BT's highly qualified technical experts in legal Cases involving technical matters to ensure that BT provides the duty of care to which we customers are legally entitled?Does it ensure that the people which it employs are well up in simple technical matters?
We shareholders have to ensure that ,at the next AGM, we get full explanations of who( on the Board?) was responsible and what detailed steps will be taken to try to prevent these damaging embarrassments from occurring again.

No trust the BT brand. It would be nice if they brought the call centres back to the UK however. More from an accent and understanding point of view I wouldn't expact a UK call centre to be any better in reality as it would be the same scripts

  • Mail ceased working with 'Plusnet' in UK despite checking all mail settings, works with other isp's

Run three e.mail accounts through Mail no problems. Then 'plusnet' in the UK stopped connecting, on an imac and macbook at the same time! I changed nothing. MSN account not affected. Plusnet have confirmed all settings but still doesn't work. Any ideas please? It's my first mac problem in several years and its ANNOYING ME!

    Have a read of this.
A recent update is forcing Mail to use SSL/TLS which is unsupported by Plusnet's mail servers. You need to disable SSL, enable the option allowing insecure transport and disable the advanced option to automatically maintain settings.
    Hope that helps.

  • Airport Extreme (old style) connecting to Plusnet router?

I'm upgrading to fibreoptic. Can I connect the Plusnet technicolor router to my Airport Extreme & thus the existing wifi network?

We are confused by the information in your post.
In the title, you state that the AirPort Extreme (old style) is connecting to a Plusnet router.
In your post, you ask if the Plusnet router can connect to the AirPort Extreme.
Which device is your "main" router at the present time? What will connect to what?
When you say that you have an "old style" AirPort Extreme, would that be the old "round" or "dome" shaped AirPort Extreme.....or.....would that be the old "square" shaped AirPort Extreme? The model number......it is on the bottom of the AirPort Extreme......starts with an "A" followed by four numbers.......would be very useful.
You don't tell us what operating system that your Mac or PC is using. Can you provide that information?
If you have a Mac and do not know what operating system it is running, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac. Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

  • Transfer from BT to Plusnet

I got my MAC Code from BT and gave that to Plusnet who used it to transfer my broadband. Plusnet gave it to BT wholesale on the 4/10/2012 and the transfer was done on the 12/10/2012. BT say that the transfer was not done correctly even though they cut me off on the 11/10/2012 and are now billing me for 3 months broadband plus £30 disconnection fee.
I have been trying to resolve this on the phone and on the chat line and just when I think I am resolving the matter nothing happens, they promise to send e-mails none arrive and the most annoying thing is when customer services take 72 hours to respond then when they phone and I answer the phone they hang up and then send a e-mail, this has happened twice.
I have today spoken to Plusnet and they have checked the tag and they assure me every thing has been done correctly at there end.
    Can anyone offer any help?

  • Just moved to ISP PLUSNET and now loading web pages is dead slow

Just moved to ISP PLUSNET and now loading web pages is dead slow.
Like loading google will sometimes take 30 seconds to 1 minute but it used to load in a fraction of a second on my previous ISP.
Sometimes a new URL will take over a minute so I hit Stop Loading This Page and then try again and sometimes it might load instantly, or if not, it might continue to just drag on again.
It's so frustrating it's like being back on dial-up connection - but worse.
It feels like PLUSNET have put something on my Mac to slow it down.
PLUSNET has a restriction on how much I can use per month, which my previous ISP did not have, but according to PLUSNET's usage checker I am nowhere near the max, ie, I am allowed 10GB per month but the checker is showing I have used less than 100 MB so far this month.
I wonder if the PLUSNET usage checker is slowing down my usage coz it's really noticeable that it has only started to run slow since I moved to PLUSNET.
When I run a broadband speed check it always shows the feed coming in at around 5500 kbps or so which should be OK.
PLUSNET told me to go through their test page and I got to the part where it says install a Virus checker and an Adware checker but I'm not sure which ones to use coz I heard some of those checkers are themselves plants that infect you with a virus or keystroke logger.
Also I have Block Pop UP Windows running on Safari but yesterday a window popped up so that blocker seems to have been compromised somehow.
I have 17GB available on my HD of a total of 38GB.
Can anyone help me with this problem please?

(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl. If you are running Snow Leopard, run Safari in 32 bit not 64 bit.)
Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
Wikipedia also has an interesting article about Open DNS:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDNS
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
    More useful information here:
    http://guides.macrumors.com/SpeedupSafari
Less likely, but possible, is that the slowness is caused by a Trojan such as the one called 'DNSChanger' or 'OSZ.RSPlug', which can alter the DNS settings of your network connection. This particular Trojan can be inadvertently installed if you have come across certain Quicktime movies where got a window stating that you have to download and install a particular codec in order to see the video.
If you have agreed to that installation, your system can be infected and your DNS settings altered, which results in your system using the wrong DNS servers, which can slow web surfing to a crawl.
This can be fixed by downloading and running a freeware utility called DNSChanger Removal Tool which you can download from here:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33696
Once you have run that utility you have to re-boot your Mac, then reset Safari, and re-enter your DNS settings in System Preferences/Network.

  • Email to a Plusnet account suddenly stops receiving

Since last week using Mail, letters from chimp mail to my plusnet email account are suddenly being arrested as spam.  The fault is not with the webmail server as when I select command i it will forward it to my mac mail.
    Any clues appreciated
    Richard

    Good day Richard,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like recently, some mail you receive is incorrectly being filtered as junk mail by the Mail application.
First, I'd try the tips in this article to help Mail more accurately filter messages based on your preferences:
Mark messages as junk or not junk
Mail analyzes incoming messages to identify junk mail. It highlights these messages in color (by default, in brown) and adds a banner across the top of the message.
If Mail incorrectly marked a message as junk, click Not Junk in the banner. Or click the Not Junk icon (looks like a thumbs up) in the Mail toolbar.
If Mail failed to identify a message as junk, select the message and click the Junk icon (looks like a thumbs down) in the Mail toolbar.
When you mark messages, Mail updates its junk mail database, so it can identify junk mail more accurately.
    From:
    Mail (Mavericks): Mark messages
If you don't see a change in this behavior after marking messages for a period of time, you may want to adjust or reset the mail filtering rules:
Mail (Mavericks): Change the junk mail filter
    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • Using Plusnet with OS 10.4.11

I've just changed my IP from O2 to Plusnet and have encountered great difficulties in getting connected safely.I had no probs with O2 connecting. It was a reliable system and was with them for years. As they've been taken over by Sky I decided to change to another IPa dn choose PlusNet.( now owned by BT)
My current OS is quite old,10.4.11,but have been told by Plus net adviser that is still  supported by them and should be able to connect wirelessly,as before.
I can do this and got set up at the weekend. However to do this I had to choice UN-ENCRYTED option. As this as security issues with anyone able to connect to by network I'd need to know if there's some re-setting I can do on my mac to ensure the connection is encryted and therefore (a bit )safer.
Plusnet tell me it's not in there service support to take me through any such changes.Their sownloadable assistant isn't available for Apple Macs.
    Helpful advice/suggestions most welcome.

  • Best router for BT/Plusnet service?

    Hi folks,
My Billion 5200G router is dying. Any suggestions for a replacement? Happy to spend up to £100 or thereabouts. My ISP is Plusnet/BT
I understand there is something called 802.11n but not sure about its significance (is it useful to have?).
    Any suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks Rudegar. I just want to get the best Router available that is also relatively future-proof. Belkin, Netgear, Cisco, Billion plus about a hundred others. A lot of choice out there... (The spec of my old Billion is here)

  • Re: AMAZING INCOMPETENCE - MIGRATION FROM PLUSNET ...

Tempted by free BT SportI decided to return to BT after several years away, during which I moved to FTTP as part of a trial from Plusnet.
The original booking was for an engineer visit and both phone and broadband activation on the 11th working day. However, the engineer was postponed until day 13, then on day 12 I was called and told that the broadband order had run into a fault and would not activate until day 22. I found this very strange as my FTTP was working perfectly with Plusnet.
The Openreach engineer duly arrived on day 13, unplugged my phone and plugged it into the modem, then completed the call to finalise phone activation (I would have been fully capable of doing this myself as the instructions had been emailed to me the day before)
He then very kindly rang Openreach to find out what the fault was, and was told that something had not worked on broadband line 1 (it was already in use?) so the BT activation had been successfully done on line 2. He plugged in the homehub and connected it to line 2 and the light immediately went blue, inidcating that the FTTP was working.
It is now day 15, I have been telephoning and emailing for 3 days to BT to try to get the order closed off so that I can access the rest of the product components such as Netprotect, BT Wi-Fi etc. Each of the BT call centre staff has failed to read my file and tried to tell me that my broadband is not yet active..... eventually I managed to extract a promise to arrange for an Openreach engineer to sign the order off today without visiting my house.
SO at 8:30 this morning an engineer turned up at the house.... he looked at the modem and homehub and confirmed that they WERE working properly BUT THE ORDER STILL SAYS ACTIVATION IS NOT FOR ANOTHER 7 days.
So far, BT have paid for 2 completely unnecessary engineer visits and, unless thet change their attitude, will be losing two weeks income.
WHAT ELSE CAN I DO TO GET SOMEONE TO SORT THE MESS OUT.?

BT Customer Servies say I should be happy as I'm getting the service for free at the moment - sadly this is just hot air as being a migration I still have to pay my previous supplier, Plusnet, for services I no longer have access to.
I suppose I could cancel the order, reinstall my old modem on the original FTTP line and tell BT to f*** off and put their service where the sun don't shine.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MIGRATE YOUR FIBRE TO BT!
Does anyone know an alternative way to get my complaint heard?

  • Slow BT Broadband compared to Plusnet

The one I use for a part time business has been connected to Plusnet using a Linklys router for years. 2 Weeks ago I put BT broadband on the other line as part of the Vision package.. What can I do to get the same speed on BT? I have checked out the wiring as in the vdeo to make sure phone extensions are not interfering

  • Advantages of BT over Plusnet

    Hi all,
Hints in the title? Would be much appreciative of some advice.. especially from Webby

Plusnet are owned by BT anyway.
All you can do is compare product features and price of the offerings and in the case of Plusnet v BT make your own judgement call on the value of onshore v offshore support.
The underlying technology will be identical but there may be ISP imposed speed caps will be reflected in what the max speeds advertised are and/or protocol speed restrictions along with any usage caps all of which should be mentioned somewhere too.

Hi pancres, and welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are having problems with the web browsers defaulting to Plusnet. Although this site is for HP products I can direct you to the Plusnet Help & Support page and Your Plusnet handbook that should be able to help you get the settings changed to be able to use different web browsers.
I hope this information is useful.

  • EA4500 and PlusNet Fibre?

One of my work colleagues is getting rid of his EA4500 cheap, and I have a PlusNet FTTC installation happening on 27th July. I've read lots of forum posts about this router not working properly with PlusNet and/or Fibre. The issues pointed towards a firmware issue, I've looked at the firmware release notes for this router and nothing immediately leaps out as being a fix to the problems that have been reported. Is anybody successfully using an EA4500 with a PlusNet FTTC installation? Any hints and tips? ThanksW

    Hi,
Not really enough information to go on.
I guess one question would be does the ISP provide the IP addresses with DHCP or do you staticly configure your devices WAN interface?
Is there a need for the Zyxel infront of the ASA? Could you simply attach the fibre to the ASA (with the device the fibre is connected to). I am not sure what kind of device it is that your fibre is connected to. If it was possible to only use the ASA as a device doing routing/NAT/ACL then I would imagine the setup could be really simple. Now the problems might be more related to having 2-3 devices behind the fibre and having configuration error somewhere there that prevents normal traffic flow.
We would really need to know how the devices are configured to be able to help at all.

  • Transfer from PlusNet

Thinking of changing from PN to BT with phone package.
BT web site states that I require MAC code and publishes list of ISP`s with their relevant MAC code contact number
But, Plus Net is not listed
So as BT and PN are the same, do I require this code to sign up with BT ?

Yes you do; and dont forget to have your current phone number transferred over to BT
if you want to keep it.
