Plz help: can i type Chinese using Apple wireless keyboard????

Kind of struggling whether should i buy a wireless keyboard for my ipad air 2 as i may have lotta word job related to Chinese and French, and i know that French is okay with the English keyboard, at least much eaiser than typing Chinese characters.
So the real concern is, can i type Chinese with the wireless keyboard without any problem?
I've seen some solutions (all didn't mention if it has been proved yet or not so i automatically assume they are all just beautiful hypotheses) posted in the community claiming you just need go to settings then select the international language you wanna use, and you will be all set (in both virtual and external keyboard)----is that true??? Pleeeease help, thousands of thanks

Hi Chloe Violette,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to use the Apple Wireless Keyboard with English letters to type characters in different languages. This can be done by changing the import sources to type in other languages, including Chinese. For information on this process, please refer to the attached article.
OS X Yosemite: Use input sources to type in other languages

Boom here i back. First of all i have to say that Amazon Prime delivery speed is aaaaawesome! Placed my order yesterday and got my new shiny wireless keyboard right in TODAY'S MORNING! Thanks Amazon.
And switch back to the topic. So thrilled to unwrap my package and write down this review here----Yes, absoluately this keyboard can type Chinese, just tried on it and received a perfect performance along with a fluent typing experience. Well, actually, it can undertake all different languages that preset in the ipad software without any problem, thus the language versions provided to the keyboard is just a matter of layouts, which is absoluately not relevant, like Tom said, for what language you can type.
There's one thing need to be mentioned though, if your keyboard is an English version, when you wanna type accented letters like French or special symbols, you may have to memorize some certain keys and then press the "option" button at the same time to bring up the hidden stuff you want since there's nothing but just English letters printed on each key.
Furthermore, the design is simple but stylish, super thin and feather-light, always ready to go, make a fantastic pair with my ipad and now they are officially couples kkkkkkkkkk. Have to admit that Apple always make good-looking products.
Regarding to the battery life, ummmmmmmm...have no idea right now as it's a brandnew boy, but referring to most of other folks, let's say the battery can last for months even with an everyday-use, i hope so....Nous allons attendre et voir !
As for those who don't know how to tell the keyboard is on/off, just tried on mine, to turn it off, simply press the big home botton on the side and hold for seconds till the green lil light goes out (usually takes 3 seconds or so), if you wanna double check, just hit a key randomly and you will notice that no further letters appear on your screen due to the disconnection of the keyboard.
So, all in all, if you like this keyboard and you are a heavy word job person, go for it, no concern leave behind. (Apple should really pay me advertising fees for all these words and i'm tired out for typing already kkkkkkkk)
    Hoping this helps

I have Mac Pro 2007, which have no bluetooth hardware. What should I do to use Apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse??? Can 'third party's internal bluetooth card' be used for this purpose? Help me please...

You can find the Apple Bluetooth card on eBay for as little ten dollars (says its for the 2008 model Mac Pro, not sure about the 2007).
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluetooth-Board-iMac-and-Mac-Pro-922-8233-922-8233-/1208 49278570
Here is a link to a full explanation of the card and how to install it. Part numbers may differ a bit as that is an old article and newer models have come out.
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/Mac_Pro/Bluetooth_MacPro_install/Bluetooth_Ma cPro_install.html
Just make sure that the part will work in your model Mac Pro. To that end, you may be better off avoiding eBay and going to a parts reseller. There are even third party cards that use the internal Apple bluetooth slot.

In theory, using a USB or PCI card will work at login so long as it is recognized by Apples drivers. You say you need to launch an application to use your current USB Bluetooth dongle? If it is not controlled by the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar then it must be using a third party driver of some sort. Unfortunately, I don't know off hand which USB and PCI cards are supported.

  • My iPad mini keeps freezing when using Apple wireless keyboard

I recently bought an iPad with retine display, and an apple wireless keyboard. I don't know if the problem is the iPad, the keyboard, or the app I am using.
I will be typing away fine with my keyboard, however if I stop for too long, the iPad suddenly loses connection with the keyboard and completely freezes. The home button does nothing, the virtual keyboard does nothing, and holding down the power down does nothing. There is no response from the iPad at all. After a few minutes the iPad either returns to the home screen or powers off. I can use it as normal from there. The app I am using is Day One journal, and is a reputable app. I have no idea what the problem is, and I hope it isn't affecting my iPad in the long run. My keyboard is only 2 weeks old, so the batteries are hadly low. I am mainly concerned about the iPad freezing.
    Any help?? Thanks.

    Hello there Lsu70,
If your app is rendering the iPad unresponsive, I would recommend you use the troubleshooting in this article to help get that resolved, named:
iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open
Start with these steps, but there are additional things to do if these do not resolve the issue:
Follow the steps below and test the app after each step.Restart the app
Close the app and open it again.Restart your device
Turn the device off and on.Update your device software and your apps
Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
    Update your apps:
Open the App Store and tap Updates.
If updates are available, tap Update All.
If asked, enter your Apple ID password. The updates will download and install.
You might need a Wi-Fi connection to update some apps.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Using Apple Wireless Keyboard on iPad 2

    Hi Guys
I bought a new Apple Wireless Keyboard at the AppleStore in Zürich yesterday.
I would like to use this keyboard for my iPad 2, but I have one problem:
I connect it with the iPad, all works perfectly. But I can`t use the other volume...iPod-features and so on. I can only
    use for writing.
Is there anybody, who could help me? :P
    Thank you very much!
    Regards

Unfortunately there is no way to do exactly what you want.  Apple does not let users add custom keyboard layouts to iOS devices yet, and the list of hardware layouts for English is restricted to  us, dvorak, colemak, us international-pc, us extended, british, french, german, spanish-iso, italian, dutch, belgian.  Only German is qwertz.
You could also try switching to Swiss French or Swiss German, as the hardware layouts for both of these is qwertz I think.  But then spell check will not be in English.

  • Kernel panic when using Apple Wireless Keyboard (bluetooth)

I kept getting kernel panics (gray multi-language screen) at seemingly random intervals on my MacBook Pro with 10.5. After a while I realized that part of the time it seemed to be when I would type something that woke up my Apple Wireless Keyboard (the new thin one) and cause it to reconnect to the laptop, then the other times seemed to be when I would go out of range of the keyboard where it would normally bring up the "Connection Lost" notification.
I have disabled bluetooth for now and no longer use the keyboard (it was my only bluetooth device) and the kernel panics have stopped.
Has anyone else noticed this? And perhaps more importantly, does anyone know of a workaround until this bug is fixed?

Same problem here today. I've got a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse at home. I put the computer to sleep at home and when I tried to wake it up at work I had a kernel panic..
I'm just doing some research now of what a kernel panic is at all.

The bluetooth one, yes. You can.

  • Why is my Apple Wireless Keyboard connected and paired, but I can't type anything?

    Hey,
I’ve been using Apple Wireless Keyboard (A1314) for a year now. Yesterday it stopped working. I can see it’s connected and paired, but I can't type. I tried unparing and pairing it again and sometimes it helps - I have no idea why, but once in ten attempts it works. When it works, though, some strange happen - like my Mac increases it’s volume level like I hit F12 on the keyboard.
When I go to Bluetooth menu battery level is hardly ever shown up. Also, when my keyboard is connected it takes a few seconds to open forementioned bluetooth menu.
So, it there change I will be able to repair it? It’s not like it costs $5. :c

    Hello:
    Try resetting the SMC.

  • What battery to use in an Apple Wireless Keyboard

Hello. I bought a used Apple Wireless Keyboard (short, two batteries to be inserted), but can't find any information on what type of battery to use (rechargeable or no) other than the very vague information "AA". Batteries seem to have two main values, the mAh (as far as I understand, that stands for duration only—but don't we need an Ampere value, too?) and voltage. At least a voltage information would be helpful. 1.2V, as I read, will be considered by the mac as "low on battery", but I'm sure there is an upper limit, too, isn't there?
I'm not asking for an introduction to electryphysics here, although it may sound that way. Really all I want to know is: What pair of rechargeable batteries to buy.

    Hello:
    Adding to "X4's" good feedback....
. At least a voltage information would be helpful. 1.2V, as I read, will be considered by the mac as "low on battery",
Nope.  Rechargeables are all 1.2v.  They do not last as long as rechargeables, but that makes no difference to me.  I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute  Energizer charger (all obtained on eBay - new - at a very reasonable cost).
IMHO, rechargeables are better (long term) and are also environmentally friendly.

  • Apple wireless keyboard, mouse and trackpad battery management is SO MESSED UP! HELP!

I have like 2 dozen batteries that I have swapped in the days since 10.8.4. The **** thing just drains in like 4 days. I am using apple wireless keyboard and mouse/trackpad (either at a time) with my macbook pro that is in closed lide clamshell mode less than a feet away from these devices. the batteries are draining like crazy! 3-4 days! they used to work for like weeks! i have heard in another thread that there is some bluetooth driver issue.
i know many of you would come up with things to check for like other wireless devices, etc. but like I said i have been using this since 2011 and only now since 10.8.4 they have gone crazy!
whats even more weird is that i dont think the batteries are really draining. its something to do with the battery management hardware/software that fails to see the power inside. when i remove the currently dead battery and put in one that was indicated having 0% charger i get a magically 50+ % sometimes event 80! a reboot and the figure is something else! since this is happening with all the three input devices i think its something to do with macbook pro.
    any fix?
    Neerav

    SOLUTION:
Put the devices in "Manual paring mode"
    1. Turn device off.
    2. Push and hold in power button until the LED starts flashing on and off.
    3. Try the paring procedure.
    4. It should work.
I went to the apple store and this is what they did. They got the trackpad paired no problem, but the keyboard would refuse to make connection. At first they blamed windows and didn't want to replace the keyboard because it worked fine under OSX. However I made them try one of their keyboards and it paired fine. So they ended up swapping out my keyboard for one of the newer ones and now it pairs with both windows and OSX with no problem!

  • HT3964 Apple Wireless Keyboard & Magic Mouse Not Working

i've been using Apple Wireless Keyboard and Magic Mouse on the iMac since Sep 2009 and they both worked well until one month ago, after cleaning the wireless keyboard, some of the function keys on the top row didn't work anymore while the magic mouse couldn't scroll left/right.  it's really frustrating.  how can i resolve this problem?

    Hi Frank:
The battery reading anomaly is a known problem (began with OS X 10.6.7) and has been reported to Apple through channels.  As an aside, I use the mighty monitor widget which seems to give correct readings.

  • Two Apple Wireless keyboards (at 2 locations) vs 1 G4 PoowerBook

I like using my Apple Wireless keyboard with my Powerbook G4 which stands on an iCurve at work. I make heavy use of the extra keys.
At the moment I take the wireless keyboard home with the PowerBook but this is getting tiresome. I am considering buying a second wireless keyboard.
Before I do my question is this:
Can I Pair a second Apple Wireless Keyboard (which stays at Home) and maintain the office wireless keyboard (which stays at work) pairing too?
NB I don't want to have to delete any pairing everytime I go home or come to my place of work. I want seemless 'finding' of the keyboard it finds at boot time.
The two keyboards will never exist in the same location, in fact they are 50 miles apart.
I have searched through the discussions but could not find this situation discussed.
    Thanks.
PowerBook G4 1.66GHz Mac OS X (10.4.5) Apple Wireless Keyboard

    Hi, G.Cactus!
I've participated in a number of threads about this issue, with fairly consistent — albeit not unanimous — results. Unfortunately, many folks never post back to confirm the results of their experience; I'm guessing this is because the "answer" is unsatisfying, and ~counter-intuitive. (More on this in a minute. [1])
How? Apple is pretty unambiguous on the subject in KnowledgeBase Article 86471 — Bluetooth: How to Delete a Paired Device —"Note: Some Bluetooth devices (such as keyboards and mice) are designed to be paired and used with one computer at a time. If you pair your keyboard or mouse with another computer, delete the pairing with the original computer first. This will ensure that the device only attempts to operate with the intended computer."Logically, the converse should also be true.
Given this, your"NB I don't want to have to delete any pairing everytime I go home or come to my place of work. I want seemless 'finding' of the keyboard it finds at boot time."...appears to be too tall an order. Making your keyboard a "Favorite" enhances "seamlessness" — but multiple pairings appear to require the "extra step" — for input devices, anyway...
A number of folks have reported that this (deleting pairing/re-pairing) worked for them — although they consider it annoying. C'est la vie — if the "delete pairing" and "re-pairing" process takes more than ~a minute or two, something else is awry...
In ~10 months of watching this & a few other Bluetooth forums, I can only recall one poster who reported success without having to delete pairing. See [ Richard Kroc, "Re: Can you pair 1 mouse to 2 computers?" Jan 28, 2006 9:45 pm ], if you're interested.
You can peruse other threads from this forum on the topic by using — search terms such as < delete +(pair OR pairing OR paired) > — along with delimiters of your choice (such as (+keyboard !mouse)...
    [1]   Why?  "Unsatisfying" is apparent.
"Counter-intuitive" (imo) because one of Bluetooth's strong points is that it facilitates inter-operability across a range of Bluetooth-enabled devices — even allowing one device to work ~concurrently across multiple "piconets" (Bluetooth™ Personal Area Networks of up to 1 "master" and 7 "slave" devices each).   But it appears that HID (Human Interface Devices, "geekspeak" for "input devices" such as mice & keyboards) are in a different category among Bluetooth-enabled device in this regard. Intentionally.
The Bluetooth technology defines numerous "Profiles" through which Bluetooth-enabled devices of different kinds can communicate, using standardized protocols.
If a "requirement" for such redundant "re-pairing" were the case for PDAs, phones, headsets, etc.,
my guess is that the Bluetooth SIG would consider this an intolerable limitation.
As defined in the latter document cited ("Profiles Overview"), the HID profile within the core Bluetooth specification was designed using "the USB definition of a HID device in order to leverage the existing class drivers for HID devices" — i.e., in an effort toward a ~universal approach among similar products.  But there are clearly differences once the cables are removed.
I've read through the available HID specification ["Human Interface Design Profile (HID)," May 2003; available from here] — as best I can as a layperson.   The "limitation" is intentional, and ~complex. I think I understand the rationale for it, at least in part and in general terms. Apparently, two factors control in this regard for HID:
      • Limitations on discoverability/non-discoverability to facilitate ~rapid connection
      • The need for rigorous support of authentication/bonding/encryption for HID "due to the extraordinary
sensitivity of the information that commonly travels from these devices" compared to other
          Bluetooth profiles.
Note also that the pairing and authentication/encryption processes involve very complex communication protocols that are defined specifically wrt to each piconet. My guess is that this represents a practical boundary — at least at the moment. Depending on the evolution of Bluetooth technology, growing use of multiple "concurrent" piconets in some environments may motivate changes.
I'd be interested to hear more about your experience and views on this.
I realize this isn't the answer you wanted to hear, but...
    HTH!

  • Apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse disconnecting

Just bought new MBP Retina Display (OSX 10.8.2) to replace 1st Gen. MacAir.  Used to use Apple Wireless Keyboard and MM on old Air and worked flawlessley for years.  New MBP installed both of these older items (keyboard and MM) cleanley when I set up, but almost instantly, after about one minute of working, the keyboard and MM disconnect themselves and the only way to reconnect is power them off and then power back up.  I have hanged the batteries on both to high end ones and they are still holding charge very wel.
In my office I have a work PV that also uses two USB wireless devices for the PC keyboard and mouse and then also a small HDX Jam Bluetooth speaker.  Also, my iPhone and iPad are around.  My Airport Express is about two feet away from the MBP as well.  Again, all of these worked just fine with my Air for over five years.
I took the MBP, keyboard and MM into the Apple store and had them check it out.  Of course it worked perfectley while I was there, plus I learned that in my new MBP the wireless card has the bluetooth built into it and unless my wireless connections got wonky, then the chances of it being hardware were slim.
I am so out of options.  I have tried to identify all environmental factors.  I have tried moving the MBP closer, further, etc. and still nothing.  It is the wierdest thing and now getting very frustrating because I am having to use the MBP keyboard all the time and it is supposed to be up on a stand and in a more ergonomically friendly position.
Anyone got any suggestions?  Is there something I am missing?  Is there something in my environment I am unaware of that could be contributing to this?

I have a 15" MBP Retina display from 2012, Lion 10.7.5, running lid closed with bluetooth mouse and keyboard.  My desk configuration has not changed but in the last couple of weeks I get both devices disconnecting simultaneously, once or twice per day.  The dashed bar disappears from the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar.
I turn bluetooth off and on (lift the lid, using keypad), and then it all works again.  I don't need to even touch the mouse or keyboard they instantly reconnect.  It is not the magic mouse battery problem, I've suffered through that and have it licked, and that would only take out the mouse.  There's nothing obvious in the system logs.  No change I know of in nearby electrical appliances or WiFi configuration.
