PLz help, My Ipod might be Garbage

hey people, all I get now is blank screen, it doesn't fully turn on I don't see the apple, and it doesn't turn on when I plug it into my computer. My computer register a device, but itunes doesn't pick it up. It was working fine last night. I was outside, it was cold but not super cold, I've been out in colder with it an no problems. It then shut off on me I put it in front of my heater in my car, a light heat not to mess it up or anything, it turned back on for me, then shut off. I took it inside let it warm up and still nothing. I think its done, is there anyway I can reset it with out the computer. I tried the menu/select buttons together, moved hold a few times. Any suggestions???

Thanks for the help. The alarm was set-up at middnight. Turning off it off has resolved the problem. I guess this brings the point why there is a need for such an alram?....The alarm did not go off with a sound to be heard, but the iPod start playing with no body hearing it (or listening) to it....So what is the point of the alarm?...Am I missing something here?....

Plz help my iPod shuffle!!

I am sorry to post here becoz no response in iPod shuffle 1st area.
My device is an iPod shuffle 1st.
My OS is Windows XP SP3.
My iPod's indicator light is green and orange alternately and I cannot hear a sound with my earphone. If I hold the play button for about 3 seconds the light will change to only orange. If I hold again, the light changes to green and orange again.
When I connect my iPod to iTunes, a pop-up indicates that I have a device to be restored. Then I restore, error 1442 or 1437 occur. I have a try to format my iPod in "My Computer", but it shows that it cannot be formated.
I am going crazy now, help me!

i just bought my ipod about a week ago and it already appears to be broken, but before i bring it in i wanted to make sure that this is a serious problem.
yesterday I left my ipod connected to my computer to charge. After a few hours I came back and saw that the meter was showing that the battery was near empty. I soon realized that the ipod was actually frozen. I tried restarting the ipod but all i would see is the apple logo, it would never go to the main menu. So i let the battery drain and i am now in the process of charging it. It did not show up on Itunes, and right now all i see is a white creen, its been charging for atleast 30 minutes
PLEASE HELP

check the apple support on the site first, apart from this discussion, which lets them know of pending issues, the support site will have FAQ... there is prob a 2% chance that its a dud.... not comforting i know but have a look at the support first.
Re the charging, 30 mins is too short for a first charge. 2hrs first charge should give it 80% charge... better to leave it till it says "Charged" and the flash is not strobing the battery icon.. also make sure its not going to get toooo hot, take it out of any case , ipods need to breath, or they overheat, shortening the life of your battery..... oh and try not to charge it overnight too often, for the first few times.... let the charge run out. a few videos should see to that, A car , sorry an automomile charger is a good back up if you are out and about.
hope its ok, i know how you feel, i had a 3g 40gb die on me @ 19 months... and it was twice the price here that you guys are paying....

Had 1418 error.formatted as fat.not fat32.now ipod doesnt work.why?plz help

The iTunes keeps saying that:
"The iPod "IPOD" cannot be updated. The disk could not be read or written to"
"The iPod "IPOD" cannot be updated.
And when I tried to restore it.
"The iPod "IPOD" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1418)"
thats a dreaded problem and i researched at many forums on how to solve it.....
before reading ur reply....there were some other replies that i read.....
which told me to format my ipod into fat partition...and not fat32 partition....then we had to update it and then restoring it would be possible........
that was the only article which i came across and which had a solution to 1418 problem......
so i began my work....
but as soon as i formatted my ipod shuffle second generation into fat partition.......
i restarted my comp...and then.the ipod is no longer working.......
if i push it to on......then there is a constant green light on it which does not go off even if i connect it to comp. using the dock provided.......
if i put it off,the green light goes off....
ideally when an ipod shuffle is connected to pc..there is an orange light that starts blinking ,that shows that the ipod is being charged.
but now when i connect mine.....
the green light blinks only once......and then nothing happens...
the device isnt working and so i cant even solve my 1418 problem ,as now i even have the solution.......
help me plz....

its been just a month my uncle gifted me this ipod ...he stays in north carolina........and i stay in india.....
i dont even know if there are service centres of apple available in mumbai.and if they are,whether they are trust worthy or the ipod that i send to them might never to me and get stolen or something.....somebody might just keep it and say that its lost.......mumbai is not trustworthy.
but if there is a recognized apple service centre then i would want to go there and get my ipod repaired....i have one-year warranty with me.......but i dont know if the warranty of a product bought in north carolina works in india......
i cant throw this ipod....cause its my first ipod and it has hardly been time that i got it...its too early for me to throw it.....
i dont know why the ****.....cant i connect it to the comp...
i tried the following: after getting 1418 read and write error...:
reinstalled the itunes 7.0.2
reinstalled the drivers......
reset the ipod shuffle...
restarted my computer several times.....
checked the cable....
plugged the usb cable onto another port...
scanned the comp for viruses......
now the only thing left is that i think.....there can be a problem with the jack where the dock is plugged.....
maybe thats the reason my ipod isnt working...
even if i formatted into fat partition rather than fat32 partition,it should atleast be connected......
should atleast charge.....
should atleast be detected......
my ipod is not even getting detected by the comp as any unknown device also.....forget as an ipod....
i just shouldnt have formatted it...
although i think....that formatting it did not lead to this problem......

just get this device to work....so that comp starts detecting that i have connected something thru usb.....

On top of the two suggestions already given, make sure that the drive letter being assigned to the ipod when you plug it in in windows is not also a drive letter being assigned to another drive. I've heard that this happens occasionally and can cause all kinds of conflicts, from problems you are describing to lockups when trying to sync.
I would also try it on a different computer to see if that helps. Maybe you've got a friend or a computer at work that you can install itunes on and give it a shot there. This will let you know whether it's a problem with your specific computer or if it's a problem with the ipod.
The fact that it runs in Windows and you were able to reformat the flash memory stick tells me that the Ipod is working, but that something on your computer is not.
P.S. Obviously you've had it for 90 days, So I must assume that the USB port is working correctly. Otherwise the Ipod's battery would have drained by now. So I don't believe it is a hardware issue. So move past that for right now and look to your computer's settings for the answer.

my ipod sounds fine with the headphones and with other speakers, but as soon as i put it on my ihome it wont work, yet it still will charge on there it just wont play music. plz help!

well after watching a few music videos on a road trip i turned off my ipod. Then the next day i turn it on and is says
"connect to your computer use itunes to restore"
so i do that and after it restores it says the same thing again and again and again it just keeps going through the same process i restore it then it says it has to be restored again? can someone plz help.

Some folks have had success from recovery mode loops by reformatting the iPod to FAT32, followed by a restore in iTunes, through Windows Explorer:
1 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
2 - When iTunes has finished syncing with your iPod, open "My Computer".
3 - Right-click on your iPod, and click on "Format". (If your iPod is not showing in My Computer, make sure that disk use isn’t enabled in iTunes).
4 - Here, verify that your formatting settings are "Default", with the format type set for FAT32. Also, make sure that "Quick Scan" is not selected.
5 - Then, click on "OK" to begin the formatting process.
6 - When this is complete (it might take a while), make sure to restore your iPod in iTunes again, so as to properly reload the firmware back onto it again.

You said you updated yur 1G iPod to 4.2.1. A 1G can only go to 3.1.3 and thus you must have jailbroken it to get to 4.2.1 and that can cause problems.

After i plug my ipod it appears on my computer after 10 min as removable disk not labeled as (ipod drive H) and i am not able to access it, when i try the comp get frozen for some time and then i get alert that i should insert disk into drive H. When I open itunes it is frozen most of the time and when it's not it doesn't recognize the ipod, the updater doesn't recognize it either. Ipod worked properly for a month or so and then my comp get restarted while ipod was connected to him and then this problem started. as the topic suggests, my ipod with video(5.5G) always shows that its fully charged when connected to my computer. but it wasn't like this a period of time ago, i wonder why. plz help me. i now dare not to transport more than 1g files to my ipod in case it would run out of battery and sth worse may follow...
since my computer is old with a celeronA 533(overclocked to 760, not a big difference), i closed lots of the system services which i think are useless, maybe that's the problem? but which service should i start? ipodservice.exe is always running when i connect my ipod with my pc
btw, i must say sorry with my poor english, hope you understand what i mean

If you mean that when plugged in it shows the iPod being fully charged but when you disconnect the battery is actually dead, then you probably have a defective battery.

I'm using a 30-GB iPod with Video, bought May 06 in Japan. It can't be updated for 1 month so far. I still can update songs into my iTunes properly, while songs in iTunes can't get into my iPod. I've tried to reset iTunes and iPods in my PCs for several times, but the problem can't be solved. Error message is "The iPod cannot be updated. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". Oh, I don't think my iPod's being not updatable due to iTunes 7.0 on Windows XP. The error message "Your iPod cannot be updated. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" also appears with my at-home PC which runs original iTunes 6.1 (the Apple running disk went with my iPod). I've come to realize that Folder "Photos" in the iPod may be the reason? I deleted pictures in it once, and since then, I can't add new photos, together with new songs from my iTunes library into iPod. When I double-click the Photos folder, the message "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" also appears. How can I fix it? I've reset my iPod but failed to fix the problem. If you have not taken the iPod apart, Apple will exchange it for a refurbished one for $99. You can do it an an Apple store
