PM agp 400 Firmware help

My son has a Powermac AGP 400 that we are trying to upgrade to Tiger. It currently has 10.2 on it and doesn't have OS 9. The problem is that in order to upgrade to Tiger we need the latest firmware (4.2.8 I think) but this requires OS 9 to install. Is there any way to upgrade the firmware with OS 10 installed?
Thx

Hi, motoxpress -
Since the G4 (AGP) models came with a model-specific version of OS 9.0.4 (at least the later AGP models did), look for a model-specific CD, which may be hard to find; or a retail OS 9.1 Install CD or a retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD. Either of the latter two would probably be better for purchase choices, since they have more current versions of Disk First Aid and Drive Setup.
You can often get retail OS 9 Install CD's at sites like these -
http://store.yahoo.com/hardcoremac/index.html - Apple Reseller
http://www.welovemacs.com/software.html
EBay is another possibility.
Regardless of the source, be sure to get a retail OS 9 Install CD - those are white, with a large gold 9 on them; the retail OS 9 Install CD's have a universal installer; model-specific Install CD's do not.
However - if your need to install OS 9 is solely in order to be able to install the firmware update, and you will remove the OS 9 install after performing that update, then there would be nothing wrong with borrowing a suitable OS 9 install CD.

  • Which OS 8.6 runs on a G4 AGP 400?

I just purchased a AGP 400 in order to connect an old SCSI HP Scanjet 4c scanner that was connected to my now dead (sigh) Performa 6400. HP does not support OS 9.0 for the Scanjet 4c running HP Deskscan II software, so I need to run OS 8.6 on the AGP. I am told that the AGP requires a special version of OS 8.6 and that 8.6 universal will not install. Does anybody know which version of 8.6 will work and where I can get a copy? Thanks. Brian

    Hi, Brian -
The early model G4 (AGP) models came with a model-specific version of OS 8.6 -
Article #25114 - Mac OS 8, 9: Compatibility With Macs
Note (3) in that article, which is referred to by the entry for the G4 (AGP) models, indicates that a retail OS 8.6 Install CD probably will not work - but it does not state absolutely that it will not.
If you have access to a retail OS 8.6 Install CD, it would be worth giving it a try.
If that is not available or does not work, you would need to obtain a copy of the model-specific Software Install CD that came with that specific model.
Apple's Customer Support sometimes has replacement original CDs available; given the age of your machine that would be doubtful, but may be worth a free phone call to find out -
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
Otherwise, sites like EBay are a possibility.

  • Unsuccessful e71 update to version 400 firmware

I've attempted over 10 times to update my e71's firmware from version 200.x.x to 400.x.x and everytime the phone restarts about a minute into the update and NSU instructs me to re-establish the connection by removing the battery etc. The phone reboots by itself even if I do not remove the battery. upon clicking 'retry' the update fails again a minute into the process. I'm using NSU version 1.8.10en
Is there anything I could try to update the phone successfully?

Thanks for replying. Made the backup, reset the phone, and launched pc suite which re-installed the PC Suite support files (should I re-install these files?).
    the update still fails though.
You can do that, but I don't think it'll help you with your update issues. What OS are you running? Can you tell me what error messages you get?

  • New to the WRT300N - Firmware & help needed

Hi. First off, I apologize that this is going to be very long.  I really hope someone will take the time to read it all and give me some help.
I posted about a week ago about problems with my WRT54GS.  All of a sudden with no changes, the wireless stopped working.  I tried for a few days to fix it with no luck.  I decided to order the WRT300N (I figured if I was going to buy a new one, I'd upgrade and this is the one that Linksys recommended).
I should mention that after ordering the new router, the wireless on the old one started working again but it wasn't working normal.  The signal quality had always pretty much been excellent and now it started going up & down but at least it was staying connected.
The new router came today.  I disconnected the old one and connected the new one and everything went smoothly.  Both my wired & wireless computers worked great.  Less than an hour later, the wireless disconnected.  I went to view available networks and my network (I use our last name) was gone.  I shut off the laptop and it still didn't see the network.  So I started looking at the router settings just to be sure that nothing had changed.  About 15 minutes later, the laptop found the network and connected again.  The signal quality dropped to good and has stayed there ever since.
Just for information, when the laptop is on the desk (which it is 90% of the time), it's only about 5 feet away from the router.  I have not tried to take the laptop out of the room yet.  Also more information if it helps.  I have a large "U" shaped desk.  My monitor for my desktop sits in the middle.  On either side are the speakers.  To my left (in front of me) is a UPS (plugged into this UPS is the tower, monitor, speakers, cradle for my mouse, modem & router), then the tower (I can't put it on the floor because I have physical issues that would prevent me from accessing it there).  Now if I turn my chair to the left, the desk has an upper level.  This is where my DSL modem & the router are.  They are on the end near where the computer is on the lower level.  This is the same setup we were using before.  Old router worked great for almost 2 years with signal strength at excellant on the laptop.  It just started acting up all of a sudden.  If I go back to facing center and then turn to the right, that's where my husband's laptop sits.  The only other equipment there is a calculator and a lamp and on the floor is another UPS which has his laptop (which has an Intel wireless G card in it), a laser printer, and the above mentioned calculator & lamp plugged in.
Prior to today, I had the Logitech MX3100 keyboard & mouse set.  I had purchased a new mouse (Logitech MX Revolution).  So I was using the keyboard from the MX3100 with the new mouse and everything was fine running that way for weeks before the problem kicked in.  So I don't think it's got anything to do with the mouse.  Today's setup is a little different.  I am no longer using the MX3100 keyboard.  I am using Logitech DiNovo Edge, which uses a bluetooth dongle.  I also don't think it's any interference from this keyboard since this is a pre-existing problem.
I do have a cordless phone in the room (it's on the left hand side of the desk from where I sit at the opposite end from the modem & router...also it's one of those that doesn't need a phone line)but it's a 5.8 ghz.
The old router had the option to change the channel, etc.  This one has auto for standard channel & wide channel & there's no way to change it that I can see.  Radio band is also set to auto but does have 2 choices under it (standard & wide).  As I said before, I use our last name for our SSID.  It's the same one I've been using for years.  There is no one else around here with that SSID.  Network mode is mixed.
Concerning the firmware....the information for mine is WRT300N V1.1 firmware v1.51.2.  I tried to look for an update but the only one in the list is the WRT300N V1.0.  I did click on that but the firmware version is lower and I don't want to screw anything up.  Is there a firmware update for me or not?  If so, please point me in the right direction as I can't find it.
Concerning the signal strength....would it help to buy a new wireless card for the laptop?  The Intel card has been updated with the newest software.  The card is internal and to my knowledge can only be replaced with the same card or a bluetooth card.  (Computer is a Dell XPS M140.)  I do have a card slot but I'm confused because I think Dell called it an Express Card slot and I don't know whether or not the Linksys notebook card that is recommended for this router would work in this slot.  If the card would work, is it worth the expense?
What else can I try.  I thought about moving the router furthur to the left but it would require moving a few other items and I'm not sure if the cords are long enough.  Would it help if the router & modem were not plugged into the same UPS?  I do have a regular surge protecter near where my phone is.  I would really rather leave them plugged into the UPS though for obvious reasons.
Also if it helps, I have the router on it's side with the 2 antennas on the end pointing straight up and the flat one in the middle I have angled this way.
I hope I have given enough information for some suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

Thanks for the response.  I was wondering if anyone would take the time to read such a long post.  I wanted to be sure to try to give as much information as possible.
My desktop (Dell XPS400) tower is made out of metal...but the router is actually not sitting on it.  There is a shelf to the left of my tower (when I'm facing it, otherwise it's to the right of it).  That's where the modem & router sit.  The shelf sits about 3" over from the edge of the computer and it's about 7" above it.
As far as the wireless card for my husband's laptop...I'm still thinking about it.  I'm wondering if there would be any improvement in speed or the quality of the connection with the N card.
Now I just went into the router's settings and tried to make the changes you suggested.  I was able to change  the radio band from auto to wide BUT once I do that, I loose the ability to leave the wide channel & standard channels on auto.  The options for the wide channel are 3-9 and the standard are 1 & 5.  I don't know which ones are best to pick so for now I'm not changing anything.  I didn't change the advanced settings either as I wasn't sure if I could do that without changing the other settings first.
My husband has noted that he does see the quality of the connection occasionally jump to excellant.  For the most part it's staying on good in here.  We haven't brought it out into the living room yet to see what it does out there.  He hasn't needed to.  He has had it disconnect on him a couple of times as well.
I did forgot to mention in that book I wrote that we do live in an apartment building.  We are on the 1st floor in the back of the building.  Our office is between our living room & another bedroom.  There is an apartment above us.  There is another apartment on the other side of the other bedroom.  Our bathroom is across the hall from this room, other side of that is the kitchen and then there is an apartment in the front of the building.  Our front door is off the living room, a hallway seperates our apartment from another one.  There are 4 apartments on each floor.  Laundry (directly under us) & storage in basement.
I give all these details to try to get the best help.  I don't know if all this extra info is helpful or not.  We have been using Linksys routers for quite a few years now.  This is our 3rd one and our 2nd wireless one.  We have been in this apartment for a year now and had no trouble until a few weeks ago.  Previously lived in another apartment of the same floor plan in the same complex but on the 3rd floor (boy did we hate walking up those stairs!) with no trouble.
Looking forward to hearing back from  you so I can try to make the changes you suggested.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

  • Zen Micro firmware help

Last night my Zen micro locked on the "creative" screen. It wouldn't power up or down. So i removed battery, held the on button and placed the batery in. I navigated to the "reload firmware option" and selected it. How long does this process take? Its been at it for 20 mins only on "erasing firmware". Any ideas/help?

It should only take a few seconds.

  • Ipod classic 80GB now totally blank without firmware. help!

I have an 80GB Ipod classic used with my Macbook and itunes 9.1.
I tried restoring several times in itunes but it didn't help. So I eventually ended up in disk utility doing an erase and repair. Now I have a "blank" ipod that won't mount in itunes or enter disk mode through numerous attempts to restart, reboot, and plug/unplug it.
How do I get firmware back on it?
In disk utility it shows up at "74.3GB" Apple ipod media with a subdrive under it that just says untitled.
I searched the forums to no avail. Thanks for your help!

Update: Itunes doesn't recognize my Ipod now.

  • Type in photoshop cs pixelating at 400% view help? please

hi there, really cany undertstnad this and its causing me problems!
i have black type, 300ppi document a4, when i type text and look at it 400% its pixelated, i know i have a setting wsomwhere thats causing this, i have checked all the anti-alias options, and its still saying its a vector in the layers palatte can you help me out?
    thankyou

I just came from PS 7 to CS3, but as far as I know, the text is in a vector format so you can change it later, or output to a vector-format file like PDF. Vector layers are always rendered on screen as part of the image, which turns it into pixels.

  • N80-Won't allow me to update firmware-HELP

    Hi
I'm having problems with my phone, specifically with my camera which no longer works, I can only use the secondary camera which is awful. I was advised by board members to update my firmware however I get the dreaded 'minimum requirement 256mb' message, apparently I don't have enough RAM. I'm not prepared to do anything to increase the memory on my laptop so how do I go about updating the firmware? Is there an alternative? I certainly don't want the incompetents at Carphonewarehouse doing it!
    OR
is there an alternative camera program I can load?
    Please help!
ThanksMessage Edited by thatfreep on 28-Jun-200708:07 PM

Firmware upgrades are really straightforward: I think I'd trust a snotty 17-year-old to do it, given he's probably done more of them in his 3 weeks on the job than I've done in a lifetime.
Must be kind of a strange camera problem if a firmware fix would help. I don't recall hearing that any of the firmware releases for the N80 did much for the camera. There was a rumour that the N80 -> N80ie upgrade slightly improved image quality, but that was never really confirmed.
I suspect if you have serious camera problems, your phone's probably going to have to go in for repair anyway.

  • Problem free ibook now can only boot 'open firmware,' help please!

I reasently went to play with my ibook, just opening it from stand by mode and it popped on but everything was frozen for some reason. So i ended up forcing it off and rebooting it only to find that it only wants to boot open firmware. I tried reseting the nvram but that didn't do anything either. What should I do?

You could see if it will boot into Safe Mode. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
If this works you will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
See if you are able to do a little hard drive maintenance to help things out.

  • Firmware help please

Now, I have tried to get my AEBS N2 installed and no luck. I bought it from the Apple Store on Monday 4/13. I give this info because in the Airport Utility it shows the firmware version as 7.4 NOT 7.4.1. I have tried to rollback to 7.3.2 by using instructions from this website, but I am given the option of finding a firmware version on my HD thru the Windows Open dialog box or "Current". The airport utility can see the AE when I connect via ethernet and when I first tried to set it up, I did so manually to a green light, but no intenet connection. I am stuck, can anyone help, please!

Never mind, finally got it. Tried to access it from Google's 'Chrome' browser, which was nice enough to show me the URL it was unseccessfully trying to get - used an FTP tool to dl it, installed no problem...

    Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

  • N97 firmware help

    Hi all.
So in South Africa, we have Vodacom and MTN who are our biggest mobile service providers. Both are full of nonsense. So I got my N97 from Vodacom with the old firmware 10.something and the MTN version already has the V11.one. We have different product codes for the phones compared to the Euro ones. I want to do the firmware upgrade but apparently I have to use the RSA product code in order to do this. Thing is, Vodacom hasn't even approved the latest firmware (even though their competitor, MTN has!) so my warranty could void if I update. I was wondering if by using the Euro product code, it would change my RSA device product code?
I'm just a little stuck, would love to hear of any help at all, even from someone at Nokia.
Btw, do I need to backup or does this device allow for a FW update that keeps all my information?

yes you need to do a back up always when youperform such operations on your phone. my advice to you is WAIT, it is a very expensive device and you will VOID your warrnaty by changing the product code. keep on calling your provider and keep on annyoing them as they are hte only ones that can release the update for your phone. again choice is yours but i would not adivse it as it will VOID your warranty and you will no longer qualify for free service if needed in case something happened to your phone. out of pocket expenses can get very high for high end phones.

  • 400' laptop help

I have a laptop that that is wireless and I want to increase the range to about 400 feet.  The router I am trying to reach is a G not a N what ever that means.  Is there a part that I can put in my laptop that works or maybe a card that has a place to hook a external antenna to it to increase my range.  Everyone tells me that the 4X range cards that slip in do not work.  I know very little about laptops and my friend said to try this forum for help.  I need to upgrade my laptop, not my router, this way it will work at work as well as lots of other places being tha the said the G is the normal router.  Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

hi , if u are looking to yse the wireless over 400' ....a wireless G will not do your job....what u need is a wireless N router with a wireless N access point .....the WRT300N will be the router and the WAP4400 N the access point....The access point will have to be placed somewhere in the middle and has to be configure as a wireless repeater to transmit the signals from the wireless router.
As far as the laptop goes , whatever card u use will work , even if u have a G standard or a N standard card.

Hello all, i have had my MSI 6600gt Sp for about 6 months now and i seem to be having a problem.
This past week i have been getting REALLY bad artifacts. The card is NOT overclocked but my processor was. The agp/pci bus was LOCKED so i know that didnt get hurt. Power supply is only a few months old and appears to be putting ok good voltages. I have tried a different power supply and that didnt help. I checked the cards temps by running my games in windowed mode, the temps didnt ever go above 70 degrees C. I also tried switch RAM

Now, the only thing that seemed to help was installing the drivers that came with the card which i think was 71.25.   I installed 76.45 and i got major artifacts again. I would try installing the card in a different computer but that is NOT an option
The only thing i noticed was the HSI (High speed interconnect...because its agp) seems to get really hot. I took off the HS and put on AS5 but that didnt help the artifacts
