• Classroom Courses for JDeveloper 10g

I'd like you all to know that the first teaching events for our JDeveloper 10g production courses are now scheduled. You can register for the new "Java Programming" course (May 17-21 in Mississauga, Canada) and the "Build Applications with ADF" course (May 24-28 in Reston, VA).
These first production teaches are "proving" events; a regular schedule at various global locations will follow, after these events are completed. But the above events are an early chance to grab a full week of training.
You can find details (and register) for JDeveloper 10g classes through this link:

Regards,
Glenn. JDeveloper team.

Hi there,
I have tried to created a Java Portlet using the Wizard with jdev10G and it did not work. I am welling to try 903 but I cannot find the PDK for it. Yes I have looked all over PortalStudio.oracle.com. Is anyone have the link to download the PDK for jdev903?
Also I have tried for two days to make the Java Portlet Wizard work with 10G with no luck. Why are they posting somehting that doesn't work? This is really frustrating.

• Looking for jdeveloper 10.1.2 step by step tutorials

Hi
am looking for jdeveloper 10.2.1 step by step tutorials, I already read the jdeveloper 10.2.1 documentation(some like chapter 3,4,5,6) so am kinda know the concepts but I need to know how to apply these concepts

Hi, i'm not answering your question but maybe I can add some friendly advice...if its possible I would be urging your company to be looking at the 11g technology stack. Of course their might be some reasons they are still based on 10.1.2 but in terms of functionality and development aids, 11g is a huge leap forward. Staying on 10g you also run the risk of hitting desupport timelines/certification etc etc.
Best of luck with 10.1.2 i had a look to see if I had any old copies of tutorials but couldn't find any, sorry (there are some books still available on ebay/Amazon)
HOpe this helps

Is there a workaround this problem?
Thanks in advance.

JDeveloper10.1.2 supports the portlet addin.

• [Reports] The best reporting tool for JDeveloper 10g

Hi,
Which is the best reporting tool for JDeveloper 10g: JasperReports, Crystal Reports or something else? I want to build parametric and rather complex reports but I don't know which tool offers more features, flexibility, ease of use , ... . I've built some simple parametric reports using JasperReports and JDeveloper 10g but I think it's not so productive and may need something more, maybe iReport. Does anyone have any ideas?
S/\EE|)

Hi Saeed,
I'lm using Jasper too, and here is an example of how i pass to it some variables:
<parameter name="theWantedId" isForPrompting="false" class="java.lang.Integer"/>
<queryString><![CDATA[SELECT field1, field2 from table1 WHERE table1.field1 = $P!{theWantedId}]]></queryString>And in a bean (or other java code from which the template is called)
Map parameters= new HashMap();
parameters.put("theWantedId", findSelectedId()); // return the ID of the object to print
JasperDesign design =
JRXmlLoader.load(myTemplate); // First load template from the Blob table in an inputstream
JasperReport report =
JasperCompileManager.compileReport(design);
InitialContext initialContext = new InitialContext();
DataSource ds = (DataSource)initialContext.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/MYDATASOURCEConnectionDS");
Connection conn = ds.getConnection();
JasperPrint print =
JasperFillManager.fillReport(report, parameters, conn);Hope that can help, if you need more information please ask,
Best regards,
Tif

• Creating secure web apps in JDeveloper 10g preview

Hi all,
I am trying to set up a secure web application and test it within JDeveloper 10g preview. So far, I am able to set up the correct entries in web.xml and ???-oc4j-app.xml (actually had to add the role mapping manually in the last file). I am able to automotically bring up a login form, enter my username/password and get to the protected resources. What I am not able to do is the following:
1. Display an error page when the login fails (I get a generic HTTP 403 page instead of the page I specified in web.xml).
2. Enable SSL. I can set the write checkboxes, etc., but instead of displaying the login form, the browser asks me to open/save the file home.do (the protected resource). I think there is some setup that is messing, but what is it?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Ara

Sorry, I guess I shoud have made it clearer: I am using HTTP-FORM authentication and I have specified a login and error page there. Neither page is protected (i.e., their URI pattern is not specified in the servlet deployment descriptor).
I get the login page fine. I am also able to log in,provided I submit the right username/password. The problem comes when I submit an incorrect name/password. In that case, I get a generic HTTP 403 page instead of the error page I specified.
Hope this provides more clues.

• Ann: New MapViewer Extensions for JDeveloper 10g

We are pleased to annouce the availability of a new MapViewer extension kit for JDeveloper 10g (9.0.5.1 or later versions).
Please download the kit from the following MapViewer page:
http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/mapviewer/index.html
Thanks
LJ

Yes currently the extension is strictly a top-level browsing tool with no mapping metadata drill down/editing capabilities.
Those features are being planned for the next major release of this extension kit, as part of our major effort to rewrite the map definition tool. there is however no ETA yet.

• Looking for JDeveloper users on Mac

On behalf of Oracle's Middleware User Experience team, we would like to
invite your to participate in some upcoming usability studies. We are
currently looking for Java developers on Mac OS . If Mac OS is your
primary development platform, we would like to invite you to participate
in a customer feedback session allowing us to learn more about your
experiences developing Java software on Mac OS. Sessions are typically
1.5 hours and would be conducted in your office via web conferencing.
Because of the confidential natures of these discussions, all
participants must have a confidentiality form (CPCA) on file. If you are
interested in participating in the study and your company does not have
a CPCA on file, we will send you the CPCA to be completed and returned
to us before your interview session. The CPCA is designed to cover
participation in Oracle Advisory Boards, User Councils, Focus Group
Sessions, Design Reviews and Usability Activities to collect feedback on
Oracle productions/services and to serve as an NDA when Oracle
Confidential information may be shared.
If interested, please contact [email protected] with the following information.
* Name:
* Job Title / Role:
* Daytime Phone:
* Provide a brief description of the programs you create in Java:
* Is MacOS your primary development platform?
* What is your primary development environment, tool, or IDE?
* What version(s) of the JDK do you currently use?

Martnlindhe,
I chose to purchase a MacMini Intel model to hookup to my 36 inch Sony TV.
I chose this model for several reasons as I also have a Web Camera hooked up to it at the same time via Firewire. I use Front Row and iTunes to distribute music throughout the house wirelessly to other stereos and to view what is playing now via the TV.
Here are some photos of the MacMini hooked up to the TV and using Front Row.
http://users.sisqtel.net/jkriz/MacMini/OSX.jpg
http://users.sisqtel.net/jkriz/MacMini/FrontRow.jpg
http://users.sisqtel.net/jkriz/MacMini/frontrow_albumcovers.jpg
The photos aren't that great but you get the idea. The TV screen looks great in person as opposed to the photos with the glare and the darkness.
Some TV's don't look as good as my TV looks from what I have heard so your TV may or may not look as good. I am about to upgrade to a 42 inch Panasonic HD Plasma TV which should give an even better picture. At this time, my TV is connected to the MacMini via the "S-Video" cable. The HDMI video cable is a better choice if your TV has that capability.
The new iTV from Apple is rumored to be released sometime this coming Spring.

• JDeveloper 10G Preview Feedback

Hi, I've switiched over to 10G Preview. As a constant user of JDeveloper I thought I'd supply some requested feedback on some encountered bugs in this Preview release :
[1] 'New View' Navigator restart : When I create a 'new view' of a project to open up in a new navigator, this navigator is displayed by is empty when JDeveloper 10G is restarted. It only displays a single non-expandable node of the .jpr file.
[2] Sources tree in Projects always default back to 'File List' view on restart. Its irritating that it does not seem to restore to each sources tree view as set when the IDE was exited.
[3] CVS Server in Connection Navigator. Created CVS connection which failed to connect to pserver (which it should of as all as was specified in WinCVS client which works fine.) Can delete CVS connection, but cannot create a new CVS connection (menu option disabled)
Will send more as I encounter. Like the IDE though and look forward to the Prod release.
Richard Bergquist

Some more :
[1] IDE Locks up when Root HTML input path is altered in Project settings while these source files are being editied.
[2] The ability to trim down JDev's footprint via external tools is a great concept. But, why in 10G Preview is there nothing visible in the list. A bug ?

• Looking for Forms 10g Training

Looking for Forms 9/10g accelerated training. Preferably somewhere in New York City area. Have looked at Oracle's own classes already. Also, interested in web-based class, if you can recommend something good.
Thank you.

Grant,
Thank you for the two links you provided, but they refer to book/video material on Forms 6i, while my question is about Forms 10g. I have actually read that book and found it very helpful as a starter (for version 6i). I'd like to read something that goes deeper into Form's internals - for example, something that clearly explains Forms internal navigation process (and its interaction with user's navigation). Perhaps there is a good white paper on the topic, don't know.
As far as Forms Docs, again I can only wish it was written the way Oracle db docs were written - you can find a chapter devoted to your general topic. Forms 6i Doc are rediculous. Information is provided in small poorly connected bytes. Frequently it is presented in a form of bare-bone reference, with little effort to explain the processes. I am only starting to use 9i/10g docs. There seems to be an improvement, information is more complete. Still, it is a helper, not a studying material. Frequently for in-depth look you are referred to a diagram, which I'm not smart enough to understand without additional explanation.
If you know of some good in-depth material regarding forms internal navigation process, I would really appreciate it. I have to say that this forum is great in terms of helping out developers.
Thanks.

• Look for JDeveoper 10g Web Services Samples

We would like to use JDeveloper 10g to create Web Services and create JSP pages to use them.
If you know a good starting point or where I can find examples, please let me know. I have found some for 9i, but I hope 10g will make the job easier.
Thanks a lot.

My original message was referring to Mike's following response.
The problem is, in the oc4j10.0.3 generated stub, there is no
m_httpConnection = new OracleSOAPHTTPConnection();
so how do you set up the proxy properties to the connection?
Quote
It may be that you require a proxy server, optionally with proxy authentication to access the Internet from within your intranet. If you are using a proxy server as I am guessing here, look inside your stub for the line that reads:
m_httpConnection = new OracleSOAPHTTPConnection();
then after it add these lines:
Properties props = new Properties();
props.put(OracleSOAPHTTPConnection.PROXY_AUTH_TYPE, "basic");
props.put(OracleSOAPHTTPConnection.PROXY_USERNAME, "proxy_username");
props.put(OracleSOAPHTTPConnection.PROXY_PASSWORD, "proxy_password");
props.put(OracleSOAPHTTPConnection.PROXY_HOST, "proxy-host");
props.put(OracleSOAPHTTPConnection.PROXY_PORT, "80");
m_httpConnection.setProperties(props);
where "proxy_host" is your proxy serve, "80" is your proxy server port and if your proxy requires a username/password, update the lines above where username and password are defined; otherwise delete those lines.
Mike.
