Pm-utils stopped working after recent upgrade. [Solved]
Hi. After a recent upgrade my system, the pm-utils package stopped working. I can run pm-suspend and hibernate but nothing happens at all. Just a blank terminal screen appears. Were there any changes to the kernel that might have changed how it worked? It used to work fine before recently.
Last edited by semperfiguy (2008-10-21 21:56:13)
The update to the kernel made the package I was using for the ath_pci module not work. I had a hook in the suspend that would rmmod and modprobe that module. With the new upgrade I use the ath5k module now. So I just changed the file /etc/pm/sleep.d/12mod-ath_pci to reflect that change and it works great now. Thank You.

Coldfusion 64 bit windows installer stops working after recent microsoft update
Coldfusion 64 bit windows installation stops working after recent microsoft updates and how I worked around it.
My question is at the end.
Trying to deploy coldfusion 9 enterprise 64 bit trial version onto a Windows 2003 64 bit datacenter OS with all OS updates from MS (as of 4-7-2011).
Steps taken (remember, this is all 64 bit):
1. Installed the base OS which was slipstreamed with SP2.
2. Checked w/ microsoft and installed 63 OS updates.
3. Launch the CF9 trial exe.
4. As soon as the first screen finishes (the one that looks like it is extracting files) then the second screen pops up (the one that simply says CF Adobe Coldfusion 9) and the progress bar quickly moves 95% to the right and the install application quits. No error, no nothing. No log file either.
5. After a moment of incredulous silence (and retrying/rebooting, etc), I started to google it. I found nothing. However, I did find a post (thanks dspent!) that was helpful in that it told how he was able to get at a log file of sorts, by pre-extracting the coldfusion_9_WWE_win64.exe file and launching the adobe_cf.exe by hand. (Dspent's install snafu was different than mine, but his post was very valuable and got me started in the right direction.)
6. Got a copy of rarunzipper and extracted the coldfusion_9_WWE_win64.exe file.
7. From the windows directory created by step 6, I launched adobe_cf.exe.
8. Same thing (the install application quits. No error, no nothing. No log file either.).
9. I examine the hs_err_pidxxxx.log file (where the xxxx is a number).
10. I see inside that file an ominous message: "A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime" then "Problematic frame ntdll.dll" and then "The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code".
11. OK, so now I am thinking ntdll.dll !! Native code !! It is like Java is telling me that for some reason it can't dance with the OS.
12. On a hunch, I decided to test a CF install again on a server with just the base install of W3K3 64 SP2 (ie: skipping step 2 above this time).
13. Bingo! That install works.
14. Therefore, one of the 63 patches I had downloaded from MS had triggered a problem with the CF installer.
15. Back on the first server (the one with the MS security patches installed and the one that CF won't install on). In the CF file adobe_cf.lax (one of the files extracted in step 6) there is a line that mentions where the install gets it's java. Find that file, and check java version installer is using. It is using 1.6.0_14-b08.
16. Off to the Java website, and there is a newer version of java (1.6.0_24-b07). Downloaded and installed it.
17. Modify a line in adobe_cf.lax :
before
lax.nl.current.vm=resource\\jre\\bin\\java.exe
after
lax.nl.current.vm=C:\\program files\\java\\jre6\\bin\\java.exe
(that assumes that you let step 16 install to the default location)
Save the file.
18. Run the install ... ** IT WORKS ** !
Obviously, the built in java provided with the CF installer is no longer compatible with some change introduced by some recent MS update on the W2K3 64b SP2 platform.
And now the interesting part. Although I forced the installer to used the new java, it did not incorporate it into the cf build (ie: in jvm.config, you still see c:/coldfusion9/runtime/jre AND the version of java.exe that is in that directory is the original version, not the newer version I forced the installer to use).
On the surface, CF seems to run OK, but I have not done any application testing yet.
And finally my
** QUESTION **
Would it be appropriate to simply point the java.home var to the new java directory? I see that the directory structures and files are not exactly the same (close though) so I certainly don't want to break things by doing this, but instinct tells me that if the installer broke using the older version, then something else is gonna break down the road if I don't use the new version. On the other hand, the differences in the directories and files is enough that it makes me very nervous, with my limitied java skill set, to make this decision.
Thanks in advance!!
ByronHi Byron,
Wow great post no doubt much of the information will be useful for those on Win03 SP2 +. Have to say not come across similar problem on Win08 r2 SP1 +.
So to your question. Adobe security bulletin (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/894/cpsid_89440.html) recommends running CF8 and CF9 with JVM 1.6.0_24. The bulletin does not say how to do that. I take you installed JDK and not just JRE 1.6.0_24? Post install of JDK follow these steps:
Stop CF - SERVICES.msc stop "ColdFusion 9 Application Server".
Take a copy of CF\runtime\bin\jvm.config - so you got a backup.
Edit CF\runtime\bin\jvm.config find line "java.home=" and comment it out eg:
#java.home=C:/ColdFusion9/runtime/jre
Add new line like so and save jvm.config:
java.home=C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.6.0_24/jre
Note there the slashes and the location of the JRE (runtime) - you need to point to the one in JDK because the other JRE in C:\Program Files\Java\jre6 will be missing a DLL.
Start CF via SERVICES.msc.

My camera connection kit stopped working after I upgraded to ios5
My camera connection kit stopped working after I upgraded to ios5. If I plug it in to my iphone I get a message saying it is not recognised, but when I plug it into the ipad it does nothing at all. I've tried resetting it, but that makes no difference.
I have an ipad 1 which I bought because it had lots of storage. I'm going on holiday soon, and I want to be able to upload my holiday photos to my ipad while I'm away.
Any suggestions?Actually this sounds the same problem I have on my iPad2.
I use a cheap copy of the CCK which I got off eBay.
It worked great when fitted with a 16gb SD card, but since I upgraded to 5.01 it has stopped working.
Sorry, no solution at this point but it worked on 4.3.3 but not on 5.01.
I'll keep on looking, was considering a proper CCK thinking the cheapmversion may be drawing too much current, but it sounds like that might not work either. -
SugarCRM stops working after Leopard upgrade
My local copy of SugarCRM CE 4.5.1 was working in Tiger before I upgraded to Leopard last week.
After the upgrade, SugarCRM complains with the following message:

=====
A copy of PHPMyAdmin has not had any problems during the transition from Tiger to Leopard, nor have local copies of WordPress and Drupal.
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm new to the subtleties of Apache/PHP/MySQL on Leopard, so please be gentle.
Thanks.Thanks for the swift response.
I'm familiar with the socket location issues with MySQL on Mac OS X. My local copies of WordPress and PHPMyAdmin both work with their configurations pointing to the socket at /tmp/mysql.sock. These installations were working, along with SugarCRM, before the Leopard upgrade. Only SugarCRM has stopped working after the upgrade.
Is there something I misunderstand about your pointer?

Printing No Longer Working After Recent Upgrade
My printing suddenly stopped working after the latest upgrade (which upgraded the kernel from 2.6.15.2 to 2.6.15.4).
I discovered that arch is no longer auto-loading the parport_pc module. This is strange. If I run "hwdetect --show-modules", parport_pc is shown.
I do have MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes" in my rc.conf file.
The quick fix is to add "parport_pc" to the list of MODULES in rc.conf.
Are others having this problem?
RobI just read your post. I am sorry I could not join irc. I was actually at work. It is very hard for me to use irc at work. Firewalls make life difficult!
In any event, I think I solved the problem.
Please see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=18747
Here is the complete post:
In my /etc/modprobe.conf file, there was the folloiwng line:
# Load lp support with parport_pc
install parport_pc modprobe -i parport_pc ; modprobe lp ; true
I believe that this line was in the original /etc/modprobe.conf file that came with arch 0.7. I don't remember ever adding it.
I commented out this line and I removed "parport_pc" from the list of MODULES to be loaded in /etc/rc.conf.
I rebooted and it worked. The modules lp, parport and parport_pc were all autoloaded at boot-up.
I should also note that right after the arch upgrade, I was experiencing CUPS daemon failure once and awhile at boot up. Somtimes cupsd loaded and sometimes it failed at boot up. Now it seems that cupsd loads reliably at every bootup. Problem solved!
The following are the remaining lines in my /etc/modprobe.conf:
# Load ppp-generic with modem drivers
install Intel536 modprobe -i Intel536 ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
install Intel537 modprobe -i Intel537 ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
install ltmodem modprobe -i ltmodem ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
install ltserial modprobe -i ltserial ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
install slamr modprobe -i slamr ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
install slusb modprobe -i slusb ; modprobe ppp-generic ; true
# OSS Compatibility
#install snd-pcm modprobe -i snd-pcm ; modprobe snd-pcm-oss ; true
#install snd-seq modprobe -i snd-seq ; modprobe snd-seq-oss ; true

options isapnp=0 dma1=1 dma2=0 irq=5
# --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
The modem driver lines came with the original /etc/modprobe.conf file in arch 0.7.
Should I also comment them all out?
Perhaps I should only have the lines for my old ISA sound card in the /etc/modprobe.conf file. Please let me know.
Has there been a change in the kernel or udev which makes it neccesary to make all these changes in the /etc/modprobe.conf file?

After my upgrade to Lion OS, I noticed that Time Machine backup failed to connect to my MyBookLive WD NAS drive. It was perfectly working while the machine was still on Snow Leopard. This is the error I am getting.
"The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features.
Open Time Machine preferences to select a different backup disk."
Any help with workaround would be greatly aprreciated. Thx for your help and support.OK I ran into issues. I'm doing the play by play on Q18 for copying a locally connected backup to a network connected backup - so I start the backup with the backup disk connected to the TC and then stop it when the XXX of YYY copied shows up. I disconnect and connect the disk directly. The problem is I don't seem to have permission to mount the sparsebundle:
So I get info and click the lock and enter my admin password and change the everyone from no access to read and write. Then I try to open the sparsebundle and I get:
So I did that twice with the same effect. Then I noticed I can mount the sparsebundle if I leave it connected to the time capsule. So its mounted - good. Then I go into disk utility and try to erase the mounted "time machine backups" drive and it didn't like that much - I wish I took a screenshot but I didn't. It basically said I can't do that.
So now I don't know what to do. I'm currently starting a backup set fresh and this time letting it run to completion however I excluded my entire user account so the backup size is only 25 GB. When it finishes then maybe I can move the disk local and go in and see if I can mount the partition and erase the contents and copy over my backup file into the sparsebundle.
So does anyone know why I can't access that sparsebundle the way Pondini says I should be able to? Any suggestions? If my latest attempt doesn't work then I'll just do a full backup and say to heck with my history although that would be unfortunate. -
My Acrobat X Pro 10.1.12 stopped working, which I believe is related to my upgrade from OS X 10.9 to 10.10 recently.
Taking any action in a PDF document will result in an endless time-out of Acrobat Pro. The only solution is to kill the process via the operating system. I deinstalled, cleaned and reinstalled the whole CS6 suite. No change. Acrobat Pro became more or less unusable. Any ideas?
thxHello Mike Leber,
Please try un-installing and re-installing the product, it should resolve your issue.
You can follow below link to download CS 6 Design Standard and install Acrobat X Pro from the suite.

USB scanner stopped working after PC upgrade
I have HP Officejet 4500 all in one printer. It has both USB and ethernet connections.
This week I have upgraded all PC components (so everything is new) except SSD drive so that I was able to continue where I stopped working.
However, my USB connection with printer stopped working.
First of all, I need to say, that I had to make scanner working over ethernet, so now my printer/scanner works without USB, but:
1. what may be the reason to stop USB connection working?
scanimage -L has usually expected output:
scanimage -L
device `hpaio:/usb/Officejet_4500_G510g-m?serial=CN141F219005CQ' is a Hewlett-Packard Officejet_4500_G510g-m all-in-one
but sometimes:
scanimage -L
and sometimes:
scanimage -L
device `hpaio:/usb/Officejet_4500_G510g-m?serial=0' is a Hewlett-Packard Officejet_4500_G510g-m all-in-one
When I try to scan over USB:
scanimage --format=tiff > test.tiff
scanimage: open of device hpaio:/usb/Officejet_4500_G510g-m?serial=CN141F219005CQ failed: Invalid argument
sometimes it stucks and sometimes:
scanimage --format=tiff > test.tiff
scanimage: open of device hpaio:/usb/Officejet_4500_G510g-m?serial=0 failed: Invalid argument
I have tried all steps on https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Scanner site. I remind, that on the old PC it was working correctly. The problem appeared after upgrade.
2. The output of lsusb is:

I don't have any such problem with rear USB.
All other USB devices work with front USBs. (wireless mouse, USB external HDD, USB CD/DVD, bluetooth dongle).
Can anybody explain me these issues please?
Thanks a lot. This is the full output of lsusb -v :

Navigation and other features suddenly stopped working after I upgraded to FF4.
A day or two after I upgraded from FF 3.6 to FF4, all the ordinary navigation features stopped working. Backspace/alt-<, even the back and forward arrows, Crtl-R to reload a page, and the address field doesn't show the current URL unless I click the identify information icon. All very odd. None of the keyboard shortcuts work.
My bookmark toolbar does not load automatically, although I guess that Vista is the source of that issue.Doing a downgrade is not anything I have done or feel comfortable with. Is there a clean procedure to accomplish this?

Incoming Emails stopped working after Sony Upgrade
Hi, yesterday I upgraded to the latest Sony software 12.1.A.1.205 and my Talk Talk emails have stopped working. I have been in touch with Talk Talk and my settings are correct - POP3 server - mail.talktalk.net, Port 110... My outgoing emails work absolutely fine. It happened immediately after the upgrade. I can see that that I currently have 57 emails to read on the the phone but it just won't display any at all after the upgrade. Any ideas would be most welcome. Thank you.
We appreciate you spending so much time with Apple trying to get your information and audio back. We want you to have a fantastic working phone so you can enjoy our wireless network for many more years. Did you have your information backed up before the update? You may be able to follow the steps at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 to restore your iPhone to it's previous information-filled glory.
As for the volume, make sure to check inside the headset jack for any debris or corrosion. I've come across pocket lint in my headset jack that caused the phone to think I had headphones plugged in. If the jack is all clear, try playing any song from your Controller Center (Sliding from botton to top with the screen block) using the Earphones. Disconnect the earphones while the song's playing (the song will stop), and then press play again without the earphones in. This may help to trigger the phone to play sound normally. If not, when did you purchase your iPhone? Has there been any damage?
Thank you

HAL/ivman unmount stopped working after hal upgrade- 0.5.
Hello all,
After the recent upgrade ivman no longer unmounts CD/DVD devices when ejected or usb storage devices when disconnected.
'lshal --monitor' doesn't always correctly reports system events like the ones I mentioned earlier.
I have the same problem on my debian sid installation that also has hal 0.5.8.1.
Has anyone else the same problem ? I thought I should ask before sending any bug reports to AL or upstream...It seems that lots of people, including myself, are having problems. I thought I read in another post that upgrading to the newest DBUS solves the problem, but I don't have 'testing' (Arch 64), so I can't confirm this.

Transactional Iview stop working after SP18 upgrade
Hi SAP Expert
We've upgraded our Portal and R/3 backend from SP16 to SP18, after that we test all existing Transactional iview, we found all transactional iview stop working for 'SAPGUI for Windows', the SAP GUI splash screens will start but never login or start the specified transaction.
Strangely, if we changed the iview to 'SAPGUI for HTML' the SAPGUI will login fine.
Anyone experience similar issue? Anyone know of a work around? Thanks Everyone,
I am testing the iview with SAPGUI 710 patch level 11, and I tried creating a new transaction iview with all the default settings, the result is the same.
I've logged an OSS message regarding this, haven't got the response yet. Any other suggestion? -
Help please! Kyocera KM-3050 stopped working after ML upgrade
Hello Apple community,
We have a Kyocera KM-3050 that scans and prints. After upgrading all the iMac, Macbook Air and Macbook Pro laptops to Mountain Lion, we are unable to scan and send the documents to any of the Apple computers. Printing is still working perfectly, but scanning has absolutely stopped working. I don't know what to do. I can't find all the installers and I'm afraid to downgrade back to Snow Leopard without them. Ah, the time machine on all three computers have never been activated so there's no restore point. =(
Any suggestions on how to go around this? Thanks in advance!SMB protocol is used by the Mac to connect to and from Windows computers. Typically the multi function devices use this protocol to connect to Windows shares, and with OS 10.6 and earlier, they could also use it to connect to a shared folder on the Mac.
If you are able to look at the address book in the MFD, this will give some insight into what protocol is being used. Often this can be done by entering the IP address of the MFD into a web browser which connects to the internal web site of the MFD. From here there should be links to the address book where you can register and edit an address for the send function.
For the example you give to the iMac, if the address book may show smb:\\192.xxx.xxx.xxx\sharename, where 192.xxx.xxx.xxx is the iMac's IP address and sharename is the shared folder name where the document is sent to on the iMac. It may also not show SMB at the beginning, but will show SMB as the protocol being used. The image below is an example from the address book of a Canon imageRUNNER MFD. Note that the protocol is shown as "Windows (SMB)".
As for the FTP support, one way to check is via this address book view. With the example above, I can change the protocol drop menu from Windows (SMB) to FTP. If you can see this same view in the Kyocera then this could help identify that the device supports the FTP protocol for sending documents. -
Hdmi sound on my mac mini has stopped working after I upgraded the OS
I just upgraded the iOS on my Core i5 Mac mini to 10.8.5 and my hdmi sound on my monitor stopped working. I have tried rebooting and adjusting the Audio midi settings and nothing seems to work. I know the mac mini speakers are working and the monitors speakers are working. What do I try next?
Resetting the NVRAM / PRAM, as per > About NVRAM and PRAM

2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys. -
RGZPFM stopped working after OS upgrade to V5R4 from V5R3
Hi Guys,
We recently upgraded the operating system on our DEV & TEST boxes from V5R3 to V5R4.
Before the upgrade, we used to use the program ZRGZPFM attached in SAP note number: 84081 Reorganization of database tables (RGZPFM) for Re-Organizing the database tables weekly after the offline backup.
Now When we submit this program with the parameters &LIBRARY= R3<SID>DATA & &THRESHOLD =1000, we get the following Error:
CALL PGM(*LIBL/ZRGZPFM) PARM(R3BWTDATA 1000)
Object MBRLIST in QTEMP type *FILE not found.
Output file MBRLIST created in library QTEMP.
Member MBRLIST added to output file MBRLIST in library QTEMP.
16108 records added to member MBRLIST in file MBRLIST in QTEMP.
String constant beginning "QDBRGZ_R" not delimited.
The fast copy, or initialization can not be done.
Function check. CPF3169 unmonitored by ZRGZPFM at statement 1800,
instruction X'004C'.
CPF3169 received by ZRGZPFM at 1800. (C D I R)
When we do a F1 above on the "String constant beginning "QDBRGZ_R" not delimited", it shows us the following message:
Message ID . . . . . . : SQL0010 Severity . . . . . . . : 35
Message type . . . . . : Diagnostic
Date sent . . . . . . : 02/11/07 Time sent . . . . . . : 18:31:49
Message . . . . : String constant beginning "QDBRGZ_R" not delimited.
Cause . . . . . : The string delimiter is missing in the constant beginning
with "QDBRGZ_R". The string is treated as if it were delimited by the end
of the source file.
Recovery . . . : Delimit the string constant. Check for any missing or
extra quotation marks and apostrophes. These errors are likely to cause
other errors. Some statements may not have been processed as the result of
either missing or extra string delimiters. Precompile the program again.
I have tried recompiling and generating the object ZRGZPFM after the OS upgrade...Also deleted the duplicate ZRGZPFM object from the library ZRPLOBJ
and checked after the re-generation that the object is the latest generated version...
I have checked the File QDBR0001 in library QRECOVERY....which is generated during the Re-org...Also tried deleting the file and then restarting the job but to no success....
The same program was running perfectly till Last week in V5R3...and the same program is running perfectly in our PROD box...for which we are planning to upgrade the OS this coming weekend..., which I guess we may have to defer...if this is not resolved....
just running out of ideas altogether...Cud it be a PTF or something else...??
Thanks for all your help guys...
AbhiHi Christian,
Thanks a lot for the response. Yeah, even I was stumped as to what is "QDBRGZ_R"??
I think that this maybe QDBRGZ_R3<SID>DATA_/<file_name>, which it reads from probably library QRECOVERY/QDBR0001 at runtime. This QDBR0001 is created I guess, when the reorgs run.
and during the Re-Org, it is not able to read the proper file name(SQL error) and hence bombs out...My Theory....I do not know why although...???
not sure although...
Yes, tried, recompiling the program in V5R4 as I mentioned before in both my DEV/TEST boxes and the same result. Infact, both my boxes give exactly the same error, as mentioned before.
I did not guess a chance to Dump the CL variables as now the systems are up. But I will try tonight to do it. Will definitely post the dump.
Thanks
Abhi
