PM8M-V Motherboard SATA HD issue

My PM8M-V(BIOS v2.3) Motherboard is not supporting SATA HD (Seagate 250GB).
I searched every where in BIOS but didn't find any option to resolve issue.
Upon booting it asks for pressing TAB to run RAID Utility. It detects my HD there correctely. But I don't want RAID setup. I just need to use it as normal.
Someone put following picture in another forum to resolve same issue but I didn't find any such option anywhere in my BIOS setup.
OnChip SATA   ENABLED
At an other forum with very same issue person suggested a new version for BIOS. I did search at (http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=205) for new BIOS update but didn't find any new version v2.4 there.
Can anyone help me with this or just send me now version of BIOS v2.4
Thanks

I just re-checkd BIOS setup again but didn't find and of these features there
I checked following options
 1-Advanced BIOS Features
 2-Advanced Chipset Features
 3-Integrated Peripherals
I just didn't find any place to disable RAID or Switching SATA controller to IDE mode. Don't I need update to new BIOS v2.4 to have these options?
Again if someone can guide me to new version for my BIOS please let me know.
Thanks
You need to go into the submenu of these main options at the Bios. Pls look at your Bios more carefully on how to go into these submenu.
Under Integrated Peripherals > on-chip IDE configuration >
ATA Configuration: PATA+SATA or SATA Only or PATA only (by moving the up and down or left or right arrow keys depending what are available option)
If there is this 'Configure Sata as Raid' option here, select disable or set as No (by moving the up and down or left or right arrow keys depending what are available option) since you do not wish to raid harddisk.
Else pls post a pic of your BIOs Integrated Peripherals > on-chip IDE configuration page with camera for people to see.

    MSI X48C Platinum Ver 3.0 BIOS 7.2
I bought this motherboard for 15 days and I found many serious problems. I think than this motherboard is completely manufactured defective.
I had to return it to RMA of MSI, on the advice of technical service of MSI.
Three issues detected in this days of testing this motherboard:
    - Half speed issue in CPU Clock, FSB and Memory. All these buses are working at half speed with FSB 1333 processors. This bug is random and not detected by the BIOS.
    - Memory problems. I have tried with 6 different new modules of Kingston Memory compatible with this motherboard (included in the list of compatible memories). Many of these modules were problems in memtest86 and showed blue screen in Windows Vista and strange reboots in XP, but the modules were not damaged.
    - SATA RAID + Optical SATA + Optical IDE issue. When I connect an optical SATA RW-DVD and an optical IDE R-DVD and RAID is enabled, the operating system does not boot. The only solution is "Disable IDE" or remove SATA optical.
There are too many errors for a motherboard that has been time for sale and that has left three BIOS. Is an expensive moltherboard with a high-performance chipset.
I do not understand as MSI has put up for sale this product without simple tests. I lost a lot of my time and money.
What X48C sent to those who made the reviews of this motherboard?

Do you have a question regarding problems?
If no, please go somewhere else to vent your anger.
As stated, there are NO MSI employees here and this is a forum about problem solving, not for ranting and flaming
If you want help regarding issues, no problem, go ahead and ask questions.
Got a bad feelin towards MSI, though, but we cant help it either.
What do you want us to do  ??? ?
Anyway I hope you'll get a better board and wish you all the best, but dont start about bad service and all that, we dont work for MSI.

  • Pm8M-V Motherboard +no post

    Hi guys,
Got a MSI PM8m-v Motherboard that will not even post. Here are some specs on the rig...
    Antec 420 Watt PSU
    Intel Celeron 3.06 Ghz
1 GB DDR 400 Memory (Kingston)
    Using onboard video for now
I have the bear minium of hardware installed. Can't even get it to post. I am going to leave the CMOS battery drain over night then give it a try tomorrow. I get no beeps, but I do notice that the lights on the keyboard are flashing on and off. what the heck does that mean? The is new right out of the box from Tigerdirect. I bought it because many people had commented on how great this board and CPu combo really is. Well so far I am not impressed. Any Ideas, Gents?????

I will let you know what kind of ram it is tonight when I get back from work. I did not have the case speaker hooked up  because the case i was using did not have a case speaker. I have another case laying around that has one, but where do I hook it up? it has a four pin connector on it and I don't see where it would hook up on the board. I am sorry for appearing to be noob at this, because well,  I am. I have built one other rig & everything went smoother than silk.
anyways, thanks for your help so far.

  • P35 PLATINUM sata performance issue.

    p35 plat
    c2d 6850
    2 x maxtor 200 gig sata 2 drives
    1 seagate 320 gig sata 2 drive
    4 gig 1066 mem
    winxp32 sp 2
Hi all, I'm on my second p35 as my first one died due to a duff mem slot and I think this ones developed a fault to. Up until about 3 weeks ago the board and 3 individual sata 2 drives have performed flawlessly but then while burning a dvd with nero the buffer emptied and the disk failed. I also noticed that winrar extraction of dvdr in .rar format that normally takes 1min 25 secs to unrar to a drive was taking as long as 4 minutes if not more.
The normal sata performance seems to have halved for no apparent reason, hdd tach was reporting problems with 2 drives but these have now disappeared. It seems like there is a problem but I cant pin it down to one specific thing because the system runs fine other than that. No crashes, bosd's or anything else; just really crap hdd drive performance when transferring files and and unraring file between the drives.I'm even seeing cyclic redundancy errors from my hdd when transferring files. I have just tried encoding a dvd image [ on 1 drive to another ] using dvdshrink and where in the past I would see 40,000kbs speed now it crawled along at 19,000.
So is my sata contoller on the board broken/failing and how can I test it to prove it? Thanks in advance people.

The system ran fine for weeks with no probs. Same psu no change [ enermax is not a cheap generic psu plus its a carry over from my old sytem that ran 2 7800 gtx's in sli with the same hdd's]. I find it hard to believe that sustained data transfer between drives would be a psu issue all of a sudden. Burning a dvd to disk would not be an excessive power drain, that was the first time the fault maifested itself. Also that was the only thing happening at the time. Im not a multi tasker, one thing at a time. I do appreciate you guys throwing idea's my way. I'm hedging towards an intermitent hdd problem but as its not all the time its going to be a bugger to pin down as which drive it is. I would love it to be as simple as a dodgey hdd as otherwise how do you recreate a sata controller issue when faulting a mobo

  • K8N Neo2 platinum & 750g sata RAID issue

Hi there I have an issue with booting up. I have 1 200g Western digital HDD where windows is installed and I have 1 further 500g WD drive which were both fine until I decided to buy 2 samsung 750g HDD's to run in RAID. I have installed the drives in RAID and formatted but I am having a problem with booting.
If I reset, the computer keeps rebooting at the detection stage, powers off and keeps doing it over and over. Sometimes it will go through if you wait long enough. When I turn the power on and off it will go through the detection stage no worries every time but then at the XP loading screen it will freeze there. Sometimes it goes through and I will boot into XP fine and other times I can't get in.
I have the latest Bios 7025V1D but I am wondering if this issue is bios related because of the 750g size... The problem has only started since I have installed the two 750g HDD's in RAID. Does this bios version support 750g HDD's? Is there an updated BIOS to fix this problem somewhere?
I have 2gig of ram, 3500+ processor, latest Nforce3 drivers from Nvidia, RAID drives on sata ports/3/4, 500gig WD on sata port 1, 200 gig WD is HDD is IDE, Windows SP2 and all updated, ummmmmm everything else is fine I'm fairly sure.
I had a few troubles installing the RAID drivers because windows didn't want to accept the drivers I downloaded from here and did not want to accept the drivers in windows. I ended up getting it the drives to come on-line through the use of START/NVIDIA corp/ NVIDIA RAID program (cant remember the name, typing this on another computer).
Any ideas would be greatly and very muchly appreciated!
    Terry.

    Ok My PSU is: WideTECH 550w, +3.3v=33a, +5v=36a, +12v=25a, -12v=1.0a, +5vsb=2.5a.
I am only running 3 HDD's at the moment, the 2 750's and the 1 200gig. I have left the other 500gig unplugged until I get this problem sorted. I don't have a cd rom plugged in or a floppy. I only connect them when I need to because this computer is setup to be a storage server and I use my other pc for anything dvd related etc. The only other thing which is chewing power is the video card which is an old 6800gt ultra. So basically the power issue was fine until I installed the two extra HDD's and as I have unplugged the 500gig for the time being its only really one extra HDD which shouldn't be an issue. Oh I have two 80mm case fans using the psu aswell.
As for my other specs: I have 1 gig of Geil dual channel RAM 2x512 sticks, CPU=AMD Athlon64 3500+, MB is MSI K8n Neo2 Platinum, Vid card= Leadtek geforce 6800gt ultra 256 agp, You know about my HDD's but here they are again= 1x 200g WD caviar IDE, 1x 500g WD caviar sata(1 I think), 2 x 750g samsung sata (2 I think), OS = XP Home SP2 with all lasest automatic updates, latest BIOS etc etc etc....
My windows is a legit copy as well.
You mentioned putting my HDD's into sata 1 mode... I was of the opinion that my motherboard does not support sata2 anyway and would not allow them to run in anything but sata1?? If I did want to change the sata mode where would I do this anyway?
Thanks for your reply but I don't think it has to do with psu or sata mode although I'm interested about this sata2 thing, please explain.
    Thanks in advance,
    Terry.

  • Is the slow SATA HD issue still unresolved in latest Bootcamp?

an earlier post by kkapoor indicated lack of support for SATA drives in Win XP, and indicated a fix to a now dead web site. Is the slow SATA still an issue? Will it impair running games in Windows mode( the only use I have for Windows)?

I believe this issue was resolved by the Mac Pro SMC Firmware Update.

  • Ext Drive Prob:Upgrade 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 SeriTek 1VE4 PCI SATA cntlr issue

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has reported issues with the Firmtek PCI SATA controller during upgrades to Tiger.
I did a basic Tiger install on a clean drive, then migrated my user account & apps, then applied 10.4.3 combo update then installed FCP Suite & used system update to get the remaining updates it recommended. (security fix & FCP suite component updates.) Did this on a G4 1G DP MDD system 300/16 PATA Maxtor boot drive and on a G5 2.5DP 250/8 Hitachi boot drive system and both exhibit the same condition regarding external SATA drives.
Basically, the card still works and the drives show up on the desktop, I just can't right-click and "eject" them for hot-swap. (which I used all the time under 10.3.9 to move video files from system to system.) System profiler can't find the external drives attached to the Firmtek card, but I saw that was a known bug. If I physically power down the external enclosure, or remove (hotswap) one of the drives, I still get the old dialogue box about SATA configuration has changed and everything appears to work properly. This just sounds scary since the drives aren't dismounted (ejected) properly. Also, I have noticed that sometimes only one of the two drives in the enclosure is detected at startup (neither of the drives is the boot drive).
Just looking for answers. I have had no problems whatsoever with the Firmtek stuff up til now.

Here's the reply Seritek gave me (and I did the firmware update to 5.1.3, but that didn't fix the eject problem).

This is a known bug from Apple, and we have reported to Apple. A firmware up date won't help. BTW: we have the latest firmware vs. 5.1.3 . You're welcome to update the firmware. Please make sure to read the note before you update the firmware.

    Hi,
I have a seritek 1ve4 pci card connected to a 2 bay external enclosure.
Today I upgraded from osx 10.3.9 to 10.4.3.
Now my external sata drives show up on the desktop, but if I right click
on them I am unable to "eject" since that option does not appear to let me
do a hotswap. This always worked under 10.3.9. Do I need a firmware upgrade?
This same behavior happens on my G4 dual 1G MDD system and
    also a G5 dual 2.5G system

I have the same problem with no recognition of the Seritek /1V4 card. After numerous reinstalls, I got it to recognize it with only two drives attached, but it didn't last and now I can't get it back. Very frustrating since the older Seritek 2 port card works fine.
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

  • My '08 17" macbook pro motherboard replacement has issues

my mac had its motherboard replaced by the recall a couple years back and since i got it back it has been restarting on it's own, if have too much pressure on the keyboard or if the surface under (table) isn't perfectly level.
ONce it restarts - it won't stop until it's level and been powered off and on several times.
I had been living with this problem for the past 2 years as of this february (I believe) until it stopped for 24hrs 3 weeks ago and I was forced to buy again.
My buddy told me it could be because apple hired a 3rd party company to handle the replacements of the recalled motherboards and they neglected to tape a cable that causes the power surge to restart my mac or that they didn't solder the connection.
How can i fix this issue?

    Sorry, let me clarify.
Yes, it was the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT recall
It works, but suffers from restarts when moved from one location to another and must be restarted over and over until the power from the surge stops.
I want to figure out how to fix myself (I do alot of iphone repairs and can handle small fixes) or if needed through apple or a 3rd party.
I need it fixed completely, because I'm sending this to my computer illiterate mother.

  • SATA II Issues with 2004 G5

I'm replacing the original 250 GB Hard Drive in my Single 1.8 GHz G5 (Purchased in 2004). I've narrowed down my choice to a 250 GB Western Digital Caviar SE16 or 500 GB Maxtor MaxLine Pro, which are both SATA II .
I wanted to know if either drive would have an issue working in my G5 because they are SATA II. I haven't been able to find a clear answer to this question in other posts so I figured I would ask before I purchased either drive.
    Steve
    Power Mac G5 Single 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I too would go with the Maxtor drive. Check out the drive compatibility database at http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/drivedb/search.drivedb.lasso to see other users experience with the drive s your considering. That said SATA II drives work fine in older G5's, they'll just work at SATA I speed. Because of that backward compatibility SATA I drives are getting next to impossible to find.

I have WD My DVD External E-Sata drives attached to my set top box. They work fine for a while, then programs that I delete are still in the list but are marked as deleted and no longer available.

    Thanks

The formatting done by the VZ DVR is NOT readable on a PC so there is no value in connecting it to one.

  • PD55/GD55 Motherboard power connection issues

Was wondering if anybody could help me out with this issue I'm having.
I'm trying to connect my OCZ 500W Mod Extreme PS (20+4) to my MSI PGG/GD55
The GD55 motherboard comes with a 24 pin connection and a 4 pin connector for the CPU.
I've read posts where people say that it can only work if you have a 24 pin connector.
However,  the motherboard manual states you can use a 20 pin power connector.  Also MSI provides a list of 20+4 power supplies that will work, so I assume that they do.
My problem is that I'm not sure where to connect the 4 pin connector:  on the remainder of the 4 pins of the 24 pin connector or on the dedicated 4 pin connector for the CPU.
    Any Help is appreciated.

Is the 4 pin labled CPU?  Most PSUs of good quality label the 4pin CPU connector.
The 20+4 connector that is discussed is a connector has the 4pin with the 20 pin all
    in the same wiring harness.
    20 + 4 pin connector:
    The 4pin CPU connector.

  • Motherboard screen connector issue

I recently swapped out the entire back housing and screen of my iPhone 5. After a few days the screen started failing. A week later it died completely. I thought it was a faulty screen, so I ordered a new one. Only to find out it wasn't the screen that was the problem. I tried both of the screen displays on another device - and they worked completely fine. My theory is that the LCD connector on the motherboard has failed. I have looked closely at it, but haven't been able to spot any physical damage. The device itself boots up without any issues - but I don't have any reaction from the screen what so ever. Does anyone know where I can send my phone in for some troubleshooting and possible repair? Thanks!

  • Motherboard SATA ports and Hard Drives?

Do the SATA ports of the motherboard support hard drives? If so what drives?
I just tried three different drives connected to the those ports. 2 drives would not allow me to even boot. 1 (the original MacPro drive) would allow me to boot but was freezing the computer.
I am booting off the regular drive connectors not the motherboard ports.
    Doyle

You might, it is a tight fit getting those in, but I've done it twice now.
Or the external case and cables. I'm sure somewhere along the way I forgot to hookup the cables inside a drive case and had to make sure it was getting power, spinning up, and the data cable and jumpers (scsi) was set correctly.
