.png and making background transparent

Hello all; I'm new at this, so please bear with me. I have a
.png of a logo that someone created for me. The problem is that the
logo has a square white background behind it and I'd like to place
the logo on a background of a different color. My question is, how
would I eliminate the white background so I'd just have the logo?
The logo is pretty intricate, so I'm not sure that cutting around
the edges would work very well...
Thank you!

what is the png? fireworks png? if it is , you can change it
via accessing changing the canvas color to transparent, if not ,
you could use the magic wand tool and select the white background,
press delete. Then you change the color of the background

  • How do I cut out imported objects and make background transparent?

    Illustrator CS3.
I have embedded a jpeg picture which I need to cut out and make the background transparent. How do I do this? An opacity mask? How do I create a mask the same shape as the object I need to cut out? The object needs central pieces cut out too. Please help!

Opacity mask of clipping path are the two ways to do this in Illustrator. Photoshop is the ideal program for this task.

  • How to change color of handwriting in a scanned document and make background transparent

I'm a newbie using Photoshop Elements 11 and trying--unsuccessfully so far--to change a document I've scanned so I can upload it to a custom fabric printing service. I've already scanned a handwritten recipe as a color .tif file (which looks black on white, because the original is black writing on a white background). I've also resized the image to 14" x 23". What I need help with is:
    1. I want to change the color of the handwriting from black to red (specifically, to hex code cd0303).
    2. I also want to add a 2"-wide solid color border in the same red around the 14" x 23" image of the recipe (so the finished image will be 18" x 27".
    3. I want to make the background of the recipe transparent rather than white and make sure that the background stays transparent when I upload the finished image to the printing service as a .png file so that only the red writing and border will be printed onto the fabric.
I'd very much appreciate directions for doing those things. For reasons I don't understand, when I've created a blank file and set the background color to Transparent, then tried to make the changes I want, somewhere along the way the background changes to black.
    Many thanks!

    Try this:
Open your scanned document, and be sure that there is good contrast. The native scan may need some help.
Duplicate the background layer, then shut off the visibility of the background layer by clicking on its eye icon. Work on background copy layer
Get the magic wand tool out of the toolbox, set tolerance to 32 (may have to experiment with this value), uncheck "contiguous".. Left click on a white background area. Hit delete on keyboard. Press CTRL+D to get rid of the marching ants.
Set your foreground color chip to cd0303
CTRL+left click on the layer thumbnail with the writing, then Edit>fill selection>foreground color
    Press CTRL+D
Go to Select>all, then Edit stroke(outline) selection. Position stroke inside, set width of stroke to suit
Delete the background layer, and save in file format which preserves transparency.

  • Making background transparent while retaining fading effect

    I need to turn this:
    http://www.nholz.com/store/images/cibfOrig.png
into this (well, actually transparent background rather than green, but you get the idea):
    http://www.nholz.com/store/images/cibfNew.png
Except without the horrible degrading of the edges of the text. Basically I need to keep the fading effect.
Unfortunately I am too ignorant about how Photoshop to know how to do this. Surely there is some way to replace all white with a proportionate amount of transparency:
    i.e.
    100% white / 0% black pixels
    becomes
    100% transparent
    60% white / 40% black
    becomes
    60% transparent / 100% black
I hope that makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the time and can find it, I strongly recommend
    b Channel Chops
by David Biedny, Bert Monroy, and Nathan Moody. It's out of print and doesn't address recent versions of Photoshop, but the basics are still relevant. I consider it one of the very best Photoshop books in existence.

  • Making background transparent...no color ?

I want to move stills around & bring them into FCP ontop of video. In Motion what is the setting so that the background is transparent (no background color) in the resulting QT export movie. What is the setting/prefs for this ?
    Regards...Ray
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

I can not bring the Motion file into FCP, it gives me an error message when I try and import it into FCP browser. Also, I still can't export my project out of Motion with a transparent background, I tried all of the above. 0% opacity background, None or animation option in codec export, I'm still getting a black ground with my Quicktime Export movie. In the View Menu of Motion I was able to set the Channel option to transparent, so I see a transparent background in the timeline of Motion, but it does not translate to a transparent background on export. Still perplexed on this one, still seem to be missing something here.
Thanks for further assistance with this.
    Regards
    Ray

  • Making background transparent

I am trying to edit photos for a webpage that have a black or white background. they need to be transparent to resize them large enough without distorting image clarity. They are to be used in a catalog format that allows for 150 x 150, then 300 x 300, upwards to 600 x 600. What is a simple method?

There are three tool for erasering back ground.................

  • Best way to edit out a white background and make a transparent gif

I have an image I purchased but need to make it into a gif. It already has a white background but when I use the magic wand it chops little bits of the edge of the images up.
Is there an easier way of editing the white out of this background and making a transparent gif?
I am using Adobe Photoshop CS2
Image is attached to take a look.
Thanks, I appreciate any help with this.

Worked perfect at a tolerance of 10, didn't know what that was for before

  • Imported image and making white space transparent...

I need to make the white space around an image transparent without having to use the clipping mask tool. In Freehand, you simply click a button and the white background disappears. I need to use that exact technique to hide the white background.
How can I do this in InDesign?
    Thank you.

There's quick, and there's right. They're rarely in the same space.
To make a transparent background can be a complex and fussy process. While InDesign could include a general tool to do so, it would likely be inferior to actually making the image background transparent in a native image editing tool.
I've found most such embedded features to be adequate only for low end work - e.g., they leave a background halo on the image, or a noisy edge, or other image problems. I really don't see it as a flaw or omission that ID forces you to use a proper tool to create the background transparency.

  • Making the background transparent in export from cinema 4d to AE CC

I'm using Cinema 4D to create a 3d object and then import it into AE CC.  When I import it in, the grey grid in the background is visible. I want to make the background transparent, so that all you can see is the object in AE.  How can I do this?

This is not a matter of transparency. You are seeing what you are seeing because you are looking at the draft software rendering result.
Choose Standard (Final) from the Renderer menu in the Cineware effect.

  • Export and re-import in to project keeping background transparent.

    Hi guys...
I have had some joy and some no so joy... maybe I am doing something wrong..
I have been using a smoke emmitter and "flattened" this and re-imported back into project to save ram or to duplicate the layer (for more smoke) and also again save ram. But sometimes the new import has a transparent background layer sometimes it is black. (Always I set all the other layers to not viewable) I have tried using keying to get rid of the black. But possibly there is a setting to keep any export/import back into project background transparent, if in a group above the bottom one. I am using QT animation setting for exports. DVC PRO HD 1080p
    Thanks.
Cheers for all this great help... invaluable for neubie..

Set your background to transparent (press apple+J to open the window you need) as it may currently be set to "solid" and render the movie out using Animation, as this preset will support transparency. That should do it.

  • Transparent bg w/ png and no show in browser

    Hi,
Trying this out. However, the PNG file does not display at all when I test in the browser, after placed on my site.
I even tried to remove the instances of 'transparent' in the CSS and replaced with a regular hex code, just to see if the controls would display.
All I get is the player in a solid color, can see the name of track and artist... but no controls, and no icons for the drop down to reveal more tracks, etc.
When I mouse over the player, I do get the pointer so can get tracks to actually play. It's working, but controls are invisible as is the PNG artwork for the player itself.
Any idea why that would be?
    Thank you!

  • Making the background transparent for a .TIFF?

I have a file with vector shapes and placed bitmap images. I want to export as a .TIFF and have the background transparent. How do you make the background transparent in CS5.5?
    Thanks.

As long as your file is not too huge you can also copy it and paste into Photoshop. I often find this quicker than exporting.
You can then save in whatever format you please.
This method also gives you the opportunity to copy/paste your Illy file in parts, thereby producing more layers in Photoshop and giving you the opportunity to add Photoshop layer effects.
Use corner rectangles to ensure registration between layers – just ask if you don't know how to do this.

  • Making spry menu background transparent

    Hello
I have made a spry menu and made the background transparent.
Works in Safari and Firefox on my mac but on a pc (IE) it is white.
How can I change this? (I'm fairly new at this) Thanks

    Hello DrJeff08
I'm happy to report that I did manage to solve my problem,
perhaps if we're lucky we'll solve yours too. (This is my first
website with Dreamweaver and first time using CSS). I went to my
CSS panel in order to view all the rules I'd created, opened up the
Spry CSS rules and methodically checked all of the properties for
each of the rules. The very last entry on that style sheet was one
    that I didn't create, called ul.menuBarVertical li.MenuBarItemIE
(the "IE" that I see at the end of that name gave me a clue that it
relates to Internet Explorer) I noticed that the background was
white so I simply removed the white background. It must have been
automatically inserted as a default background color.
    Hope it helps!

  • PNG is no longer transparent!

I have been using Photoshop since PS7. I love it. I am also a professional graphic and web designer/developer. This problem has never occured to me in the 8 years I've been using the program. So, needless to say I'm stumped!
When slicing up my design for use on the web, I format certain slices to be saved as PNGs (if an alpha channel/transparency is needed). However, it's not retaining the transparency of the layer. It renders the slice just like a flattened JPEG. I've tried both saving the cropped image as a PNG and using the Save For Web feature to render a slice - with the same damn result. I've tried both the 8 bit and the 24 bit. Nothing works! Not even a GIF is rendered with transparency. Before someone thinks me ignorant enough to explain how transparencies work and the process of isolating the layer from the background before saving it with a transparency - don't! Like I said, I use this program a ton. I know what I'm doing. Is there some "restore file rendering to default" feature or something? Uhhhh. So frustrating!
PS: I use Photoshop CS6 (I don't have Fireworks otherwise I'd probably just import my PSD in there and slice it).
    Help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate you taking the time to try and help me.
    I figured out the problem...(kinda)
It was a glitch with the 2-up preview pane in the Save For Web feature. It was displaying the slice as a JPEG regardless of the different file-type presets I selected. I had to have this working right away, as I was working on a project for a client, so in desperation I simply reinstalled my Photoshop CS6.dmg.
    Everything seems fine now.
    Thanks again.
