Png file has rough edge- addition
Sorry, in my first submission on this topic I forgot to make clear that the black letters are against a transparent background.
Thanks
Noel, I think it is you who are barking up the wrong tree.
If you read my original question with any precision, I never asked for any help on PaintShop. My question was about re-processing a png file to achieve an adjustment.
Mr pfaffenbichler answered that with precision, and I will be experimenting with his approach shortly.
I mentioned PaintShop in my reply to him, out of politeness, because I was unable to follow his steps in detail.....because I don't have photoshop!!
His points remain valid, and would you believe it, PSP does support Mask Layers using luminance (and many other things).
I do note that you have yet to make any technical contribution to the problem. I would welcome that, just assume I have PhotoShop and enough intelligence to transpose the procedure to PSP.
regards
PS: Just to adopt your tangential approach for a moment: You wouldn't find me in an Apple store, so your whole point is meaningless, LOL, LOL,..

Placed PSD file has Jagged Edge
Products:
PS CC
AI CC
I have a 2500 x 4088 px PSD file with no jagged edges, until it is placed into Illustrator.
I believe that I have placed the PSD file in its original size, but may be wrong. My artboard was created to be larger than the original image, and when placing the file I simply clicked on the artboard.
I have not knowingly increased or reduced the dimensions of the placed file.
Will the jagged edge be present if I place the AI file into InDesign?
Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change to remove the jagged edge?
ThanksHi John, thank you.
I verified that the anti-alias box was checked, and it was. I usually do not print, so your suggestion was well taken. When the document printed, the lines were as smooth as I expected them to be.
A few days ago when troubleshooting my Windows 8 system, it recommeneded that I perform a Refresh -- so I did. It notified me that it would keep all files and I thought nothing more of it, but learned that the refresh deletes all installed programs. I had to reinstall all Adobe products (among others).
After the re-install I created the attached image. There was a version of the same size that I created before the refresh, and when I placed that image into Illustrator, it appeared smooth with no jagged images.
I don't know why the jagged edges are present on the screen, but ultimately it's the print version that matters (save as to web produced smooth edges, too).
Thank you for your response, it was very helpful. -
Every png file I have suddenly has text that cannot be edited
Hi everyone, every PNG file has suddenly lost the ability to edit text, I can highlight the text box, but to actually select box (or any item) I have to click and then drag it. I can select the the box and change font, size etc from the properties bar but i cannot select it so I can change the actual copy and wording, usually i would just double click on the text and it highlights it.
I made a new text box where I can write text, but when iI click off the text, I can not click back on to change the wording
This in CS6 which I recently downloaded, I tried opening the files in an old Fireworks and it has the same problem
It is every single png file I have from the last few years
I am using a Macbook
The only thing I thought It could be is I changed the settings for PNG files in that instead of opening in Preview they open in Fireworks, since then this has happened
Thanks in advance
DarrenText selection issues have been seen when you are running third-party applications like SoundCloud / Spotify / Grooveshark Desktop Helper or Radium. If you are running any of them, please close them and relaunch Fireworks. This might resolve the issue.

Having trouble sending jpeg images as attachments in Mac email.....they go thru as images and PC users can't see the SAVE or QUICK LOOK boxes that Mac mail has. One friend scrolled over the image, right clicked on it and saved as a PNG file.
Apple Mail isn't going to change the format of any of your attachments. it isn't going to corrupt them either.
Exchange is a transport protocol and server. The issue you describe is not related to Exchange.
There are many different versions of Microsoft Outlook in use and they all have e-mail bugs. Different versions have different bugs. Some Apple Mail hack to get around a bug in Outlook 2003 may cause the same message to be problematic in Outlook 2000. Fix them both and another issue will cause trouble in Outlook 2007. You can't fix this. Apple can't fix this. Microsoft can and has but that is irrelevant if your recipients are using older versions.
One specific problem is that Apple Mail always sends image attachments inline, as images, not as iconized files. You can change this with Attachment Tamer. Just be aware that use of this software will break other things such as Stationery. E-mail is just a disaster. To date, no one outside of Apple has ever implemented the e-mail standards from 1993. Apple has continually changed its e-mail software to be more compatible with the de-facto standards that Netscape and Microsoft have unilaterally defined and people documented as "standards" after the fact. The e-mail messages that Apple Mail sends are 100% correct and do not violate any of the original standards from 1993 or the Microsoft/Netscape modifications. The problem is entirely bugs and limitations in various versions of Outlook. -
Edge Animate file has become partially unresponsive.
I've been working on a interactive infographic, nothing special just clickable elements to a URL. After a trial run in my website, I'm come back to find the file while in Edge Animation can not copy or paste an object or text. I can make a new object, say a circle, but it does not register in the Elements column. Additionally, I opened a new file, only to realize the same malfunction exists. The following error pop-up appears upon trying to copy or past;
I've quit the application many times, and even re-installed. After the re-installation, in a new file I was able to add a shape, copy and paste it, while it populated in the Elements column. But once I opened the file in question, the malfunctioning returned.
Below is the html. If you need the supporting files I can provide immediately.

I'm on OS X 10.8.5, 3.4GHz quad core i7 with 16gb of RAM, Edge Animate CC 2.0.1.268.25632.
Oh, and once I have this issue, my Undo function no longer works until I restart Edge.

I have an png file that has images how do i display the seperately?
i have an png file that has images how do i display the seperately?
how do i clip the image to an object and use that object to display on an canvas ?The MIDP API documentation says this of the paint()
method in Canvas class:
Operations on this graphics object after the paint()
call returns are undefined. Thus, the application must
not cache this Graphics object for later use or use by
another thread. It must only be used within the
scope of this method.
The Drawer.paint() operations are NOT executed after the Canvas.paint() but within !
So as long as Drawer.paint() does not start a separate thread (which is not the case here), it NO problem :)
However, you CAN cache the Graphics object, but then you should have some logics like this
if(cachedGfx != currentGfx) {
cachedGfx = currentGfx;

Photoshop CC 2014 Crashes When Opening or Saving PNG Files
I'm having an issue where opening or saving PNG files causes my copy of Photoshop CC 2014 to crash.
I've updated to the latest version, restarted my computer and have no plugins installed. I have also re-installed the program from the Creative Cloud application, although I haven't tried a full uninstall/reinstall sequence.
I'm running an x64 version of Windows and have tried both the 64 and 32 bit versions of Photoshop - neither works.
Other file formats don't appear to cause any issue - the problem is specific to PNG files (does Adobe Photoshop depend on any PNG library like LibPNG? Perhaps an older version has been installed by a different application?)
This issue seems to have occured in the past on the Adobe forums, but there is no clear resolution.Part of the information is missing but your running CC 14.1.2 not CC 2014, and14.1.2 needs to be updated to 14.2.1. I also can not see the date of you video drivers. Here is what my CC 2014 and my 14.2.1 looks like

FW CS4 need help with gradients & png files
Relatively new to FW CS4. I have a png file for use in a PV7 css based site. Read the docs and still can't figure this out. The png file is a base image with 3 color sections. I need to change these three original individual sections to a new color scheme...I can use a regular fill...but I would like to keep the slight fading effect of the original pngs. In addition...the png's are obviously in png format..but if I export as jpg will I loose the gradient fill/opacity effect in a jpg file ?
Original png...want to change to light blue tones: Note the fading to the right side of the outside columns.
If not...how do I change the color scheme in each section of the original png ? Or do I export as is and modify the resulting jpg's ?
If I use a gradient fill or paint bucket...the effect just overlays the original gold type color...giving me a new color all together with the original background still partially showing through underneath the new color change ?
If I delete the gold tones in the png image...then I can't fill the empty space with any other color...nothing works. I've also tried color find/replace
but with no results or changes.
Second problem is when I do apply gradient fills to this png...or jpg...the fill seems to me to be from top to bottom of the section ? I need the fill to move from left to right as above ? Any ideas here also ??
I posted on the PV7 FW group but it's not that active and was more confused by the answers ?
Thanks much...I'm stuck for now.
TimAfter following Lorains' gradient link, when you have the first box tweaked to your liking and you need it replicated to the remaining two boxes (without having to go through the process again)
1. Select the box that has the new Gradient, then Edit > Copy (or Ctrl/Command + C)
Then select the remaining two boxes that need the new gradient style, then Edit > Paste Attributes
This process with carry over (copy/paste attributes) the first box to the others.
Or
2. Select the box that has the new Gradient changes, then in the Property Inspector (PI), to the far right, tick the small icon under to create a New (Object) Style. Once created, open the Window > Styles Panel. Select the two remaining boxes on the canvas then click the New Style icon in the Styles Panel to apply.
1. is memory resident/temporary and will be lost when you later utilize the Copy command. But 2 has more 'staying' power and you can reuse it, go back to it, save it to disk, and tweak it further to create new ones at any time.
If you absolutely have to keep the final result as a .jpg, then turn off the Canvas color. Open the Window > Optimize Panel, set the output to jpg, BUT set the MATTE color to the color that matches the background of your page.
Otherwise, output to .png8/png32 with Transparency .

Help in working with this Png file...(Please see attached)
Hi All,
I am trying to identify the contents of the attached png file so I can edit the mask to make addition icons for the web. It is barely visible until a layer is placed below it. I have tried editing the contents and saving it out as another png for use in a CSS background image but it does not appear. I am not sure how it was created but it seems to have an alpha channel yet one does not appear in the channel listing. But it does show an opacity of 18% when the Info window is up and you hove over the pixels. I am very confused and would appreciate help as I have spent an entire day trying to decipher this mystery.
By the way, the image is attached here, right next to the exclamation point below but is coming up as invisible because of the low opacity. But it is there as you can tell by the gap between this sentence and my closing salutation. Like I said, this is a very confusing issue!!
Thanks and have a Happy New Year!I downloaded your very small png image 26px by 98px. PNG files support transparency and all the pixels in this PNG file are more then 50% transparent. For when I load the layers transparency as a selection there are no visible marching ants and I get a message to that effect. The pixels are very transparent and not visible in the composite image. To make them visible I made three copies of the document and added a stroke layer style to each copy. The stroke are 1 px black ones one outside, one centered and one inside the layer pixel border. The layers opacity is at 100% however all pixels has transparency less then 50%

Edit a png file... change colors and text and then export to gif?
First I want to state that I am VERY new to Fireworks and I am trying to figure out how this works! I typically use Photoshop.
I was sent a PNG file (from a friend). The file has many buttons on it that I believe are somehow saved or exported out as gif images to be buttons on her website. All of the buttons are basic rectangles that are gray with black text. She was told she could edit all of the buttons quickly in Fireworks (change their color, font color, etc) and it would change them all together. Then save them all out so we would have the individual gif files for the buttons to save to the directory.
So... I am able to open the png file in Fireworks and I can select each button or all of them, but I cannot see how to change their color and font, etc. I know this must be very simple! Can someone help me?
Thank you!
SharlynHave a look in the ocument Library panel to see if the buttons are Symbols. If yes, then double click on one of the buttons to open it in the symbol editor where you can easily make changes in all of them at once.

I am trying to dynamically load the background image of an XControl facade using a 'LoadBackgroundImage.vi' that I have written. This SubVI has worked with a normal VIs panel before. It utilizes the 'Read PNG File.vi' from Labview to read in a transparent PNG file to overwrite the Facade background. When the XControl is loaded during design-time it generates an Error 1004 indicating that the 'Read PNG File.vi' is not in memory. I have tried to place a static reference to this vi to force it to load but I still get this error. What is the solution?
Attachments:
Error Dialog.PNG 9 KB
LoadBackgroundImage_VI.PNG 33 KBDarin, thanks for your reply.
The XControl Facade is rendered on the Main FP when the Main.vi is opened in design mode. Previously I have placed a PNG image onto the Facade pane (i.e. drag-n-drop the image onto the Facade FP during design) and it is displayed on the Main.vi FP in design mode when Main is loaded. However, when I include a call to Read PNG File.vi in the Facade I get the 1004 error. You may not see this error without using a Simple Error Dialog. This failure to find Read PNG File.vi in memory is the main issue.
I have tried to use SubPanels before - they are useless for my purposes for many reasons (they don't show the underlying SubVI pane in design mode, they require the use of SubVI references to load - preventing the use of direct wiring to the SubVI connector, etc.).
Do you know how to dynamically load and call 'Read PNG File.vi' so that Labview is forced to load the VI and then Read PNG File can load the PNG image? I can get 'Read PNG File.vi' to dynamically load and show property values but to call it with the 'Call By Reference Node Function' I need a strict type def to be generated, etc. So what are the steps needed to create a dynamic call to 'Read PNG File.vi'? I haven't seen any good working examples that show how to create the strict typedefs that are required etc. There is no right-click > Make Type Def > ... for Read PNG File.vi or other ways to do this that I have noticed. Showing a finished example doesn't show you how to do it (menu selections, etc.). Or, do I have to hand construct these typedefs by reverse engineering the VI? -
DW won't open PNG file to edit in Fireworks
I have a complex Fireworks file inserted as part of my html page. I'm trying to edit and update it from Dreamweaver, but it will not open the file in Fireworks.
It's a png file that has been updated from an older version of Fireworks, but I've done a save-as and re-exported the slices and html, then re-inserted it into the page. It still will not open the file in Fireworks.
As a test, I created a new png file, exported it, inserted it into the html page, then tried to edit it in Fireworks. And that does allow me to edit, click done, and then the changes show up on the html page. So it's something with my original file, but I can't figure out what it might be.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this working?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.Can you open images normally in Photoshop Elements? I would recommend including this information as well as which verson of iPhoto and Mac OS you are using to the Photoshop Elements forum. It might also possibly be a problem with iPhoto but the users in the Photoshop Elements forum should better be able to determine where the problem lies.

Png files referenced in css not displaying in Chrome & Firefox after after PUT
I'm new to dreamweaver but I've got a techy / software background so feel free to speak geek.
I've been tasked to create a simple splash screen for an existing intrenal website for my company.
I've been able to put page together in DW and sucessfully preview in Chrome, Firefox, & IE. After I PUT files on the webserver (under an existing virtual directory in IIS) I'm bumping into a problem where I'm not able to see a the three png files I've got embedded into the .css sytle sheet fro the header, container, and footer sections. Here's a look at the html & css for the page. Any recommendations on how I could code this better or fix the problem? Your help will be very much appreciated.

/* ~~ This is the layout information. ~~
1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the div. The elements within this div have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
.content {
padding: 10px 0;
/* ~~ The footer ~~ */
.footer {
background-image: url(/CognosSplashScreen/footer_02.png);
padding-top: 5px;
/* ~~ miscellaneous float/clear classes ~~ */
.fltrt { /* this class can be used to float an element right in your page. The floated element must precede the element it should be next to on the page. */
float: right;
margin-left: 8px;
.fltlft { /* this class can be used to float an element left in your page. The floated element must precede the element it should be next to on the page. */
float: left;
margin-right: 8px;
.clearfloat { /* this class can be placed on a <br /> or empty div as the final element following the last floated div (within the #container) if the #footer is removed or taken out of the #container */
clear:both;
height:0;
font-size: 1px;
line-height: 0px;CSS for images coded on the Web page itself is pathed relative to that Web page. CSS for images used by the external CSS file is pathed relative to the CSS file location.
If this is the link to the css file from the Web page... go to "CognosSplashScreen" subfolder and get the "oneColFixCtrHdr.css"
<link href="/CognosSplashScreen/oneColFixCtrHdr.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
.... and you don't need the leading "/" by the way.
then relative to that css file, which is already in the "CognosSplashScreen" subfolder, the path to the "HeaderBubbles_02.png" is just
background-image: url(HeaderBubbles_02.png);
not:
background-image: url(/CognosSplashScreen/HeaderBubbles_02.png);
and so forth for other image paths.

Best Practice for Many Complex Elements In One PNG File
I use Fireworks all the time, but I'm still embarrasingly ignorant on how to do some things property.
For instance, when I do mockups of a new customers homepage, there may be many small or medium sized complex objects on the page. By "objects" I mean like lots of modules advertising their different services, and each module has its own graphics, text, backgrounds, etc all with lots of different effects applied.
Should all of these things reside in one large png file, or does Fireworks offer some way for me to create some of these as separate png files and just drop an "instance" of them into the main file? I read something about adding files to the Common Library, but I will only need these files for one single customer so that may be overkill.
Or do I even need to worry about separating them at all and should just continue having everything for a single customer in one big single png file?
Please let me know if my question is not clear.In reading a bit further, it looks like a good option for me might be to just select everything that makes up a specific module and just "group" it. That way I can move it around and turn it off and on easier.
So I'm thinking that unless theres something Im going to reusing more than once in a document (which in this case I'm not) then its fine to have everything all in one png? And the only time I use the Common/Document Library is when i'm reusing things?
I'm just trying to wrap my head around what all my options are in Fireworks, as so far my experience is limited to just dragging around rectangles and shapes and stuff on one single canvas to create website mockups. -
Hi,
why can't I save as my photoshop cs4 file to .png file? I don't see any option for saving .png in Save As diolog box now? It was working fine until yesterday. Neither I can open a .png file nor save my psd file to png file?
Please help. I am using Microsoft Window XP Professional and Photoshop CS4.In Photoshop CS4, .png open/save support was provided by a plug-in. It is possible the plug-in has been deleted or moved, or has become unavailable to Photoshop because of a change in file protections.
Do you have the file PNG.8BI on your system. It should be here on a 32 bit Windows system:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins\File Formats\PNG.8BI
