Png images showing up weird....

I don't know if there is anyone else out there that uses iPhoto to store digital scrapbooking things but I do and I noticed something that is very strange. It doesn't appear to affect jpg's, just png's. Viewing the png's at not full size looks like some of the pixels are missing from the icon. If I double click on it, it opens and shows just fine. If I view it full size, it is fine but anything less than that, there are sections of it missing. Why would this be? I didn't have this issue before the latest update (7.1). I will post this to the feedback for iPhoto, for what it's worth. Thanks for any tips, any solutions, Judy

Missing sections strongly suggests transparency - png's support transparency differently from jpg's (I think jpg's don't support it but don't quote me on that)
Drag the image to something that supports transparency, like Pages, Keynote, Omnigraffle and see if there objects placed behind the image are visible through it at all.
If there is some degree of transparency, it could be getting rounded up to full transparency when the icon is created. This is, of course, just a theory.
Also, can Preview identify the color profile being used? There was some weirdness with the black-and-white profile (white or black areas would become transparent in iPhoto) that I remember from old discussions.

  • Why aren't my FW (PNG) image are not showing up

    Hey guys.
    This is really bugging the hell out of me. I feel like I
    can't move on until i can figure out why my PNG images are not
    showing up in preview (F12). They did yesterday before I deleted
    some pages and renamed old pages I no longer needed.
    All my images that was done in FW are in my root folder in
    the file panel. i didn't move any of those. When I double click on
    the image to bring up the "select image source" in the URL it
    starts off with two periods then a slash and then the name of where
    it's located as well as the name of the image. The "relative to":
    is site root. i didn't change any of these setting before I deleted
    and renamed pages in my file panel.
    Oh, and my Ap Divs show up in light gray boxes.

  • Convert a Tiff Image to png and show

    Hello;
    I wanto to convert a Tif image to png and show this in my web page but i dont want to save the png iamge in my server.
    Actualy i do that:
    byte[] bytes = imagenData;
                    ByteArraySeekableStream tiffStrm = new ByteArraySeekableStream(bytes);
                    String[] CdcNms = ImageCodec.getDecoderNames(tiffStrm);
                    ImageDecoder tifDecoder = ImageCodec.createImageDecoder(CdcNms[0], tiffStrm, new TIFFDecodeParam());
    //                 Check the number of pages
                    int IFDs = tifDecoder.getNumPages();
    //                 Get the first page
                    RenderedImage ren = tifDecoder.decodeAsRenderedImage(1);
                    byte[] bytes2 = doSingleConversion(ren);AND

                   //      Create the PNG file
                   PNGEncodeParam pngParm = PNGEncodeParam.getDefaultEncodeParam(tifImage);
                   JAI.create("filestore", tifImage, out, "PNG", pngParm);
                   //Read the file into a byte array
                   File f = new File(out);
                   FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(f);
                   bytes = new byte[(int) f.length()];
                   in.read(bytes);
                   in.close();
                   return bytes;
              catch(Exception e) {
                   e.printStackTrace ();
                   throw(e);
         }But this code save de image in the server; its posible do it without save.

    Numbers the iWorks program? Not sure you can convert it to that or just a list of numbers. Never heard of anyone that would even want to convert an Image file, Photo, to any other format. Other then another image format like JPG, PNG or a PSD Photoshop file.

  • Transparency in png image not showing

    Hello,
    I have a Region, which needs a background and an image 'on top' of it.
    I can set the background using
    setStyle("-fx-background-color: #" + 123456 + ";");
    Or I can just use a Rectangle of that colour.
    Then I have an ImageView...   spiralImgView = new ImageView(new Image("images/spiral2.png"));
    The png image itself has some transparency in it.
    So when I add them to the region...
    this.getChildren().addAll(rect, spiralImgView);
    I just get a white background showing behind the image.
    Can anyone help me fix this?
    Thanks

    I didn't do any coding.  This will tell you if it is your image:
    1)  Download and start JavaFX Scene Builder
    2)  Without making any changes paste "-fx-background-color: #1d1d1d;" into the "Style" box of the "Properties" window
    3)  Drag and drop an Image View into the scene from the "Library" window.
    4)  Click on the ImageView in the "Hierarchy" window.
    5)  In the "Properties" window Use the "Image" selector to find your img on disk
    If your image is mostly transparent it's background will not be white but #1d1d1d

  • After installing Fireworks CS3, IE shows the download dialog instead of opening PNG images

    After installing Fireworks CS3, when clicking a link to a PNG
    image, IE displays a download dialog instead of opening the image.
    I am not sure why Fireworks becomes the default file handlers of
    PNG and GIF without asking or notifying the user during
    installation, but I think this is the cause.
    Does anybody know how to fix the problem?
    Thanks,
    Franklin Tse

    Fireworks uses a form of .png as its native file format
    (which many people find unfortuante) The Fireworks format includes
    some additional information, allowed by the specification, so you
    want to make sure that, if you want a .png for the Web, you
    export from you Fireworks image, not just
    save.
    In any case you can re-associate the file types. Exactly how
    you re-associate file types depends on your OS.
    In Vista, right click on a .gif and select 'Properties.'
    Under 'Type of file', click on the 'Change'
    button and change the associate application. Make sure the
    checkbox next to 'Always use the selected program to open this kind
    of file' is checked.

  • How can I add .PNG images to templates without getting a white background?

    I'm having problems with a image field when I add a .png image which doesnt have a background it is showing up with a white background. Is it possible to use images in templates so you can overlay them on something else?

    Hi, You can do this but only with a PNG with a palette of 256 colors (maybe GIF as well) so doesn't get a lot of use, good enough for image buttons and the like, but might be ok for your image as it does not have that many colors. Otherwise radzmar's suggestion would be the better approach.
    This is the link I was tring to find (in your previous thread) that tells how to do it using GIMP (a free image editor), http://smartforms.business.gov.au/DeveloperResources/Pages/HintsandTips.aspx ,  but the one I have uploaded here comes from photoshop (in photoshop it is called an indexed png).

  • Files with .png images create huge .pdf's

    I use .png images in PowerPoint presentations and these seem to create huge .pdf files. (...don't have this problem using .jpg images) For example, I have a 48 slide presentation that has a small .png image in the "slide master" so it will show up on every page. The PowerPoint file is 2.3MB, however the .pdf of it is 33.3MB, making it WAY too big to email, which was my objective.
    Any ideas on how to reduce the size of .pdf's which contain .png images?
    ...note that I "compressed" the .png images inside of PowerPoint prior to creating the .pdf, but this made no impact.
    Thanks,
    pm

    >I have a 48 slide presentation that has a small .png image in the "slide
    >master" so it will show up on every page.
    PowerPoint only has to store one instance of the image even thought it is
    displayed on multiple slides. But Acrobat can't do the same, the image has
    to be stored for every page that it appears on, so that would explain the
    larger file size.
    Acrobat is supposed to be able to optimize the storage of common background
    images (at least that's the message I see when I do a "Save as..."), but I
    have yet to see it to work. Maybe it depends on the application the orginal
    file is created in and the PDF conversion method used.
    Adding the image into a PDF file later as a watermark instead may be a way
    to keep the size down (then it really only does store the object once),
    though I believe that watermark images will appear in front of everything
    else on the page (not sure if that's a problem for you, it depends on
    whether any text or objects in the presentation ever appear in front of the
    image).
    What are the dimensions and resolution of the image in PowerPoint? You may
    be able to go as low as 75 dpi and not notice a difference, it depends on
    whether the image contains any areas of high contrast or text.

  • Firefox asks what to do with some PNG images instead of just displaying them

    Not sure what is going on here, but some PNG images seem to confuse Firefox, while others are fine. While some PNGs just display when clicked on (eg: when wanting to see a full size image from a thumbnail), others make Firefox ask what I want to do with it. When I select "Firefox 3.6.8" it ends with an error:
    /tmp/elementary_gtk_theme_by_DanRabbit-1.png could not be opened, because an unknown error occurred.
    Try saving to disk first and then opening the file.
    ... but when I manually made it open with "/usr/bin/firefox" (I'm in Ubuntu) the image opens fine. I was beginning to think this was now universal for PNGs, but I was opening offending ones from the same site, and going elsewhere showed that some PNGs will be displayed as usual. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen to some PNGs but not all? Here is a link to one of the problem PNGs:
    http://s.linux-mag.com/i/articles/7811/elementary_gtk_theme_by_DanRabbit.png
    It opens without issue in Opera. Hope someone can make sense of this. Cheers

  • Trouble converting powerpoint files with png images to pdf-Can someone help?

    Hello all,
    In my line of work, I create and modify large sized posters that are created in powerpoint. I would have the files print ready by converting them to pdf. I usually have little to no issues executing this. However, I have been dealing with an issue of converting ppt files with png images. The size of the ppt is typically a 42x56 file. The several ways to convert to pdf produces an error each time. Png images are very useful as they provide much clarity vs jpegs or tiffs. The 3 ways I have tried below are:
    A) File>Print>Adobe PDF>High Quality print settings/300dpi results to an error message that says:
         "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current print setup. Try one of the following:
         *Check the printer by printing a test page from Windows.
         *Make sure the printer is turned on and online.
         *Reinstall the printer driver"
         A blank pdf opens up (Selected to open file after publishing)
    B) File>Save as> Change file type as a pdf results in nothing happening. No pdf is produced.
    C) Acrobat>Create PDF results to an error message that says: "An unexpected error occured. PDFMaker was unable to produce the Adobe PDF."
    Again, this all happens with ppt files with png images. I took out the png images and attempted to convert to pdf, and the pdf is produced!
    Can anyone provide any assistance in creating pdfs with png images or what settings I need to adjust? I am able to covert every other image type (jpeg, tiff, bmp), except for png images.
    I am using Microsoft Office 2010 with Adobe Acrobat X on Windows 7 (This happened on Windows XP as well).

  • Dynamic image showing default image instead of requested image

    I'm using CR4E v2.0 to incorporate reports into my application which is built into an ear file and deployed with Jboss 4.2.2 at the moment. I have an image in my report that I am trying to set dynamically from a URL in a database,  but when the report is run only the default image shows up. The URL in the database for the logo is http://localhost:8087/module_Reporting/Logo.gif and I verified that exact string is being returned to the report, but the image is not changing from the default placeholder.
    The formula for the graphic location is:
    HdrPictureLogoClient : Graphic Location
    // Return values: Any string value.
    If Not IsNull({REPORT_PARAMETER_FACT.LOGO_URL_PATH})
    Then {REPORT_PARAMETER_FACT.LOGO_URL_PATH}
    Else "";
    I'm using a com.crystaldecisions.report.web.viewer.CrystalReportViewer in my jsp page to display the report and this is the part of the page that handles the viewer
    CrystalReportViewer crystalReportPageViewer = new CrystalReportViewer();
    // If the report is not saved in the session you just keep getting prompted for parameters
    Object reportSource = session.getAttribute("ReportSource");
    if (reportSource == null)
         reportSource = clientDoc.getReportSource();
         session.setAttribute("ReportSource", reportSource);
    //     set the reportsource property of the viewer
    crystalReportPageViewer.setReportSource(reportSource);
    // setting the optoins in the Crystal Report toolbar
    crystalReportPageViewer.setDisplayGroupTree(false);
    crystalReportPageViewer.setHasToggleGroupTreeButton(false);
    crystalReportPageViewer.setHasSearchButton(false);
    crystalReportPageViewer.setHasRefreshButton(false);
    crystalReportPageViewer.processHttpRequest(request, response, application, null);
    The viewer is contained in an iFrame and is disposed of in the containing jsp.
    Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you very much for your reply, but I am not trying to add an image into the report at run time, I am trying to change the source of the image. There is an image in the report as a place holder (called HdrPictureLogoClient) and the code that handles the source of the image is in the .rpt file also as this formula:
    HdrPictureLogoClient : Graphic Location
    // Return values: Any string value.
    If Not IsNull({REPORT_PARAMETER_FACT.LOGO_URL_PATH})
    Then {REPORT_PARAMETER_FACT.LOGO_URL_PATH}
    Else "";
    {/code}
    I have discovered that it works just fine with a file path name like C:\logo.png in the database but it does not work with my web URL.
    I just find it extra interesting because when the report was originally created in a Crystal Reports Project in myEclipse and deployed as an expanded war directly to jboss running in myEclipse it worked fine, but now that it is being incorporated into an EJB project which is built into an ear file that is deployed in a jboss service running outside of myEclipse it no longer works.

  • Loading PNG image file from Applet?

    Hi All,
    My applet running on IE6 and it will often loads 100 PNG image files from a webserver.
    Size of PNG file is about 60Kb so 100*60=6000 Kb ~ 6M.
    In theory, the applet will took 6M of memory to store all 100 files. In practical, it tooks about
    6M* 25 = 150M of memory, that make my applet run in out of memory sometimes.
    I know the reason, may be the brower/applet convert the PNG file format to BMP file format before showing on the screen.
    So the main point here is the applet should not loads all 100 files into the memory,
    it should loads only 10 files at the same time, another 90 files should be cached in memory as PNG file format, not BMP image file format to save the memory usage.
    Is this solution possible in applet field?
    If it is possible how can I implement it?
    And please show me better solution if anys.
    Many Thanks.

    I know the reason, may be the brower/applet convert the PNG file format to
    BMP file format before showing on the screen.This sounds VERY unlikely! Why should the browser do that? And the applet does what you have coded I hope!
    Your problem is probably somewhere else. And it has nothing to do with applets I presume. Use a heap analyzer tool to find out what hogs the memory. A thorough code review can't hurt either. If you still thinks it is the images though, then just don't load them all at once then.
