Png on illustrator

Hi all,
I am currently trying to copy a black shape from photoshop to llustrator. I cut the shape from a black checked background (photoshop.) and wanted to turn it into a vector by putting it in illustrator. When copying over I tryed using live trace, but there seemed to be a white background attached. I am aware of png format, but don't know how to use it on illustrator. How can I do this so I can but a black shape onto say a magazine cover?
CS3 adobe suite, windows XP proffessional.
Helen

I saved it as a psd in photoshop like you said, then I placed it in illustrator and the background was transparent yay! however when I used live trace, the image converts back to a white background. Is there a way to get around this? PNG doesn't seem to be coming up when saving on Photoshop,  don't know why that it as I would have tried that. Any suggestions?
thanks
Helen

  • Save error when exporting to PNG in Illustrator using a Macbook with Yosemite

Anybody experience the issue of png being saved with "/" in the beginning of the file name when exporting to png in Illustrator? This only happens when I use my mac not my PC.
Due to the save error my PC cannot identify the files and when the files are linked in Indesign they are not copied when packaging the indesign file.
Any advice on the issue are most appreciated

I don't have a lot of experience with this kind of problem, but the first thing I'd check is the parameter block you're passing the action call. I don't know why it would matter if the dialog appeared or not, unless the export settings block wasn't being filled in with everything it needs?
You might try recording an export you perform manually via the action palette, and then saving it to a file. You can open it up manually and compare it (even if it's a binary block) to what you're doing in code. You might spot something that way.
I don't know what else to suggest though. It's unlikely to be an SDK bug, though it could be a bug in the action-aware part of the exporter.

  • Do I begin by scanning my illustration in a pdf and then save it as a png on illustrator?

Do I begin by scanning my artwork as pdf and then saving it as a png on illustrator?

Depends on what you want to do with the file. Most scanning software can scan as tiff, png, jpg and sometimes pdf. In each of these cases the resulting file is usually a raster file. The exception is software that can convert text into edible text known as OCR, or have some time of auto trace feature for converting artwork into vector objects. This is where pdf would shine compared to the other formats. Tiff is the only remaining one that can also save live editable text.
As I said once the pdf is imported into illustrator, what format you choose to save from there will depend on what you plan on doing next with it. Ai, pdf, psd or tiff would make good candidates for master files. (A file you can re-edit at a later date with no worry of degradation) And then each of these formats have their pros and cons.

  • Getting darkened/ washed out colors when exporting png from illustrator

Hey everyone I'm trying to figure out a remedy for this, I am getting darkened less saturated colors when exporting a logo png from illustrator, jpeg's looke fine, even when copying this logo into indesign and exporting the colors look fine there as well. I think it has something to do with the icc profile being embeded in jpegs but not pngs, but I'm not sure. My illustrator document is set to display blacks accurately, document color mode is set to RGB, assign profile is set to working RGB: sRGB, and under color settings working space is sRGB and cymk is U.S. Web Coated SWOP v2, color management policys off for RGB and conversion options Adobe ACE (all under the color settings options). I've also tried to create a new file for web and copy and pasted my logo and tried to export that way and it didn't do anything. Any jpeg will look fine, the png even in save for web will look fine until I export or preview. My only current remedy for png at this point is to export it as is, then open it in Mac's Preview and turn up the saturation. Any help would be appreciated, I'm also using Illustrator CC and am on mac 10.7.5, thanks.

Any other solutions? I notice if I open the AI file in photoshop and export the png from there with "embed icc profile" checked then I get the same colors that I see while in illustrator, and when I export jpegs from illustrator, but exporting pngs from illustrator always changes the color/ makes the colors look duller.

  • How to save a file as an 8-bit .png in Illustrator?

Hello to all AI masters...I have a task here to save as a file as an 8-bit .png file in Illustrator? Can anybody, somebody help me on this?

...but how can I convert it to an 8-bit png file?
What bit depth are you converting from... and how did you create the PNG in the first place?
Conversion among raster image formats would normally be better handled in programs like Photoshop.

  • Placing .png in illustrator

    Hi folks!
I don't know what I am doing different....

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi Mike!
    Thanks for coming by
OK! I am using Illustrator CS6. When I save to web I have a white background?
Another thing I have noticed is my artboard seems to have a black border and is placed on a white background?
    I haven't shift command D on pc....
OK! I have seen this before when creating things - but haven't a clue as to what it is...
I have edited this post to show you what I mean. I usually have a grey/brown background outside of my artboards?
OK! Another way I have been abled to fix this is by creating a new document the size of the original and copy the artwork from the original to the new. Then - when I save for web everything is as it should be?
Now this situation must be something someone has come accross

  • Skew/Distort PNG in Illustrator CS3

Regrettably after much searching and trial and error I am not able to "free transform" an imported png.
Also, at times the "placed" file will not show in the artboard.
I am trying to create some perspective on a screen shot and have made sure the file is not linked.
I appreciate any insight to what I am missing.

Thank you all for the response but regrettably I am still not able to get there. The effect I am looking for is taking a rectangle and taking the upper-right and lower-right points and pulling them together towards the middle and then taking the right side and moving it to the left. This is to create the illusion of the screenshot going off into the background. This is a simple drag in Fireworks.
The Shear tools actually affects the image, but it does not give the desired affect. The rotated rectangle is cool, but it only resizes horizontally, not changing the height.
I know that this must me simple and I am really missing someting, and appreciate any further help.

  • When I export to a PNG in Illustrator I get a small reflection of the image content at the lower border of the PNG...how do I get rid of this?

Notice the one pixel blue lines on the bottom of the logo.

    CoreyKat,
If you select the artwork and select one of the bottom Reference Points in the Transform palette, is the Y value an integer?
If not, what happens if you move the artwork so that it is?

I've tried reinstalling the program and changing the document from CMYK to RGB. Not sure what else to try.

  • Import from illustrator to flash not working (PNG/SWF)

I spent 2 days making some lovely pictures in illustrator,
all ready to go into flash. I first exported them into PNG from
illustrator and tried importing that that way but after clicking OK
nothing appeared on the stage or in the library. There were no
error messages. I then tried exporting from illustrator in swf
format. This time the picture appeared on the stage, with
associated symbols etc. in the library, but when I came to publish
the movie, the picture wasn't there at all. I finally tried copying
and pasting from illustrator. This simply crashed flash every time.
Has this happened to anyone else before? Or does anyone have
any suggestions as to what the problem might be or how i could go
about resolving it? Any help greatly appreciated. I'm begging for
    your help. Thanks.

I use Illustrator 10 and Flash 8 Pro.
Don't use .png (too heavy files).
Use, as you did, export .swf in Illustrator.

    Which ones did you use?

  • Live tracing a white png logo in Illustrator CC - can't see the results because of white Artboard

Hi, I am fairly new to Illustrator. I have a white png logo (with transparent background) that I need to Image Trace to create a vector version of it. However every time I import the png into Illustrator it opens it on a white artboard so I cannot see the logo. I cannot see any options to change the transparency of the artboard. Does anyone know the best way to overcome this?

I believe the last word in post #2 should be trace.
Actually not, because you first need to rasterize before you can trace.

  • Printing problems using Illustrator CS6 (Mac)

    Hi,
I'm having trouble using Illustrator CS6. I just bought an HP LaserJet CP1025nw color printer. My operating system is Mac OS X 10.6.8.
I've printed two different format files (.ai and .png) in Illustrator, but there are white lines (without printing) ocurring in the exact same place on both documents, this only happens in Illustrator, not Photoshop or any other software. I did a test using exactly the same .png file in many applications, except for Illustrator, the file is printed perfectly.
I asked HP for help, but they say this is a problem caused by Illustrator CS6 and they can't do anything about it.
What can I do to solve this problem? Could you please help me?
I've already installed the latest update of this software.
    Thanks in advance.

    hong,
You need to ClickDrag just a tiny bit, then apply the Shift Option Command.
