Png with transparent background not rendering on the mac
I created a png with a transparent background for a header. It renders fine on the ipad and iphone but not on the mac. Is there a reason why? The header is on http://surfingthebluemarble.com/news.html
Thanks in advance for your help!
Regards,
umbre gachoong
If the header in question is the News on the Blue Marble header it seems to be rendering fine on the page and fine if I download the image to my system.
The background is transparent.

With what program are you working and with what version of the program and on what computer operating system?
I suspect that you are working with some version of Photoshop Elements. If that is correct, then be advised that some how
your thread got posted in the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum (video editing) instead of the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum (photo editing).
If Photoshop Elements question, then please re-post your thread in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum or wait for a moderator

Photoshop Elements
Thought....if are creating an image on a transparent background in Photoshop Elements Windows for a Premiere Elements Windows project, then you Save As png or psd.
Please clarify if I have misinterpreted your question.
Thank you.

Export locally png with transparent background
Is it possible to use Ps touch to remove the background from jpeg images and export them locally as png with transparent background (reducing the size of the picture)? I would need to use this feature to create more keynotetouch-friendly images.
Yes. That's possible. You can export a PSTouch project as png to the Camera Roll....and there are other channels as well where this is possible, like "Share By E-mail" , "Send to iTunes" etc.
Those options are accesible via the Share menu (see attached screenshot) as part of the PSTouch project organizer -
Combining 100 pngs with transparent background, vertically into one image PSE9
As the question suggests,
In PSE9 is it possible to combine 100+ PNG files (with identical dimensions & transparent background) into a single PNG file where the images are stacked vertically? and without trimming/cropping the transparent part of the image! I want to retain the exact original image dimensions so that they all stack neatly and precisely.
So far what I've tried is opening up the 100 PNG files in PSE9, create a new document with transparent background using the same width as the individual files and the height set to the individual file height multiplied by 100. (i.e. original image is 36 x 120 so the new file will be 36 x 12000) Then I get stuck! Whenever I drag a single file into the newly created document, it seems to be cropped to the image edges and no longer retains it's original height and width. Not to mention that hand dragging 100 files seems like a long-winded way of doing things... My automate button seems to be greyed out (so no contact sheet?) and I can't find any other automated process.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks
N.
PSE 9 on Win 7Please compare the resoultion of the two documents too. And a better way of arranging the layers would be to use distribute option in the move tool. You can find more about the move tool at http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/using/moving-copying-selections.html#main-pars_h eading_0
Thus your workflow would be:
Create a new document with the required dimension.
Use File>Place to place all your png files on the created document as layers
Use distribute option in move tool
A still better workflow would be to use put all the files in a folder and write an ExtendScript to read the files and place them as layers on the document of said dimension -
Problem importing PSD or PNG with transparent background
I am using eLearning Suite 2. (CP5 Photoshop CS5)
I am trying to import a PSD or PNG. I am using it as part of a master slide. It is a simple shape, with a transparent background containing a gradient overlay, inner shadow, bevel and emboss. When imported, it appears correctly in the design area of Captivate. However, when viewed in the browser, it acts as if it is an animation and I get what looks like a red color bar spectrum. I have tried to flatten the layers and I still have the problem. When I save it as a .JPG, it works fine. However, as a PSD or PNG, it is a problem. Seems like captivate may be having trouble rendering the gradient or transparent background. Anyone else run into this issue?
Files below:
CPTX File: http://coventry.mzinga.com/content/ss/temp/WCMS.cptx
PSD File: http://coventry.mzinga.com/content/ss/temp/bottom_wave.psd
Thanks,
EricSo, I thought it might have something to do with the "effects" settings in Photoshop. HOWEVER, I took a regular photo, cut out a part, and put it on a tranparent background. This file as both a png and PSD have a halo that fades in and fades out. I checked timing and I have it set to no transition for the item and show for rest of slide. I did not have this issue prior to upgrading from 4. Hmmmm.

Fancy zoom pics with transparent background
hello,
i have successfully setup fancy zoom in my iweb site (based on the various tutorials found on the web), but there is one problem i'm having. the pics i'm using are .png with transparent background and the background renders properly in safari. however in firefox the background always shows as white. i have double checked my pics and i believe they are fine and again in safari the background renders transparent, but i can't figure out what's causing the background to show white in firefox? i'm guessing it's something in the css maybe but i'm not sure. any ideas at all? i have noticed some people posting in the forum regarding fancy zoom so hopefully someone know... note: the zooming part is working fine in either browser...
thanks,
rickI love you!!!
Well, you know what I mean.
It worked, thank you, thank you, thank you.
I figured it was a simple solution, and it was. Thanks Varkgirl. -
Image with transparent background als foreground of a button
I'd like to build an app with buttons using the phone's accent Color as Background and an Image with transparent Background as foreground of the button. It should look like the tiles on the start screen of WP8.1.
The following code doesn't work (no foreground appears)
<Button x:Name="myButton" Background="{ThemeResource PhoneAccentBrush}">
<Button.Foreground>
<ImageBrush ImageSource="/Assets/myImage.png"/>
<Button.Foreground>
</Button>
Are there any ideas?
Thanks
MartinHi mfv_technet,
The Foreground property is used to get or set a brush that describes the foreground color. So we can not bind the Foreground to a image,
if I do not misunderstand you, in my mind if we want to set the button look like the tiles on the start screen of WP8.1, maybe you can try to refer to the following xaml:
<Button x:Name="myButton" Foreground="Red" Background="{ThemeResource PhoneAccentBrush}" Margin="116,136,0,363" Width="195" Height="141">
<Button.Content>
<StackPanel Orientation="Vertical">
<Image Source="/Assets/myImage.png" Width="80" Height="80"></Image>
<TextBlock Text="Button"></TextBlock>
</StackPanel>
</Button.Content>
</Button>
The result:
If I have misunderstood you, please feel free to let me know.

Export to png with transparancy
hey, can this be done?
export to png with transparent background
even setting the background of the slide to "none" doesn't work
if you can't achieve this, does anyone have any ideas how I could do a workaround?
cheers, DAhh, I read this and thought you required the export. You essentially want to take an image from Keynote into some other application WITH transparency, correct? If so, you may want to take a look at Skitch.
http://www.plasq.com/skitch -currently in public beta as a free download
You could copy the items as you're currently doing, then open Skitch and paste them in. Your objects will appear with a white background. Next, click the color well at the bottom of the colors on the right hand side in order to bring up the color palette. Change the opacity to Zero, then hold down Shift, while clicking in the color well. The background is dropped out and you have full transparency. You can even use Skitch to resize the image to exactly the size you want it to be. Click and drag the tab and to export at that size. -
How to create image slice with transparent background without white halo around?
Hi, I want to make slice image with transparent background. I set the slice option background color to my background color. But when the image is on my html page set against the same background color, it has white halo around:
How can I get rid of the white halo?
I need the slice image to have transparent background and not have a color background because it's going on a rollover button with the background change. I don't want it to look like this on rollover:>it looks to me like you built it with that "halo" to start with.
No, I didn't put in the halo myself. The shape is a character from the Webdings font. It's set to some darker fill color and set on a transparent background. Photoshop put the white halo there after "Save For Web".
> Make your graphic on a transparent background and Save for Web
I did exactly that, see:
I set the slice background to my color. I try the Matte option and come out the same with white halo.
It seems I'm not making Photoshop antialias to my background color, instead Photoshop just antialias to white.
What else do I need to do? -

Framing image with transparent background png frame
hi,
i'm trying to find a way to frame images with transparent background png frames...
what i'm doing now is
1-drawing my image on a panel
2-creating a 2nd image using the frame's filename, stretching this 'frame-image' to a size slighlty larger than that of my main image and drawing the 'frame-image'
the problems with this method are:
1-depending on the width of the frame, the frame sometimes hides parts of the image (thick frame), and sometimes there is a gap between the frame and the image (thin frame).
2-if the image file containing the frame is larger than the frame (Ex: The image is 300x300, the frame is centered in this image and is 200x200; as opposed to the image is 200x200 and the frame takes up all the space), when i position the 'frame-image' near the top left corner of the image i want to frame, the frame appears at the wrong place (shifted down and to the right). This is due to the fact that i'm placing the top corner of the created 'frame-image' and not the frame, who is not in the top corner of my 'frame-image'.
Is there a way to do what i'm trying to do???
My ideas (which i don't know how to achieve are)
1-To 'analyse' my transparent background png file and
1-only keep the frame,
2-calculate the frame's thickness
OR
2-Let java do the analyzing for me and tell it to frame my image with the frame in the png file
please feel free to ask for more explanations if my description/question is confusing,
thanks.Have you looked into the Border interface? If what you really want to do
is put a custom border on a component, you may be able to do it this way.

Png files with transparent background show black only in firefox for android
I have a wix created site and png files with transparent backgrounds are showing with a black blackground in Firefox for Android. They show transparent in all other browsers I have tried.
I have tried saving the file as a gif, as a smaller png, interlaced, not interlaced, png 8, png24. It still shows black in Firefox for Android.Hi evelswoman,
Thank you for your question. This sounds like a good one for the web compatibility team. Currently there are some compatibility documentation for background-image here: [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/background-image] and more details on background: [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/background]
Filling a bug with webcompat.com with an example url can go a long way as well, I hope this helps. -
Hi Everybody,
I need an iPad app that can open an image and has a Magic Wand-type tool so I can select white background around a subject. Then delete the white areas so it becomes transparent. Then save as a PNG with transparency. I've tried Pixelmator...I can select the white but I can not delete the white. I downloaded Photoshop Express...no magic wand tool.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks,
GaryIt's a shame you don't have Mac. The feature is built in the system (in Preview, Pages, etc).
That makes me think: this feature should be in the iPad iWork apps too (Pages and keynote): check out this guide: http://www.cultofmac.com/256475/knock-out-those-backgrounds-instant-alpha-hidden -in-pages-for-ipad-ios-tips/ -
Imported png with transparency not working as mask
I created an image with several wavey lines in photoshop to
use as a mask layer in Flash. I "save for web" as a png with
transparency. I import it to Flash and when it is on the stage it
is indeed transparent. But when I go to use it as a mask it masks
the entire rectangle of its dimensions, not just the waves. I trade
breaking it down and converting it to a symbol but no go. What am I
missing here?Images are rectangle or square, even if you have transparency
or not, the entire image will be a mask.
The way you must work is usign vectorial shape as mask. You
can do it directly in Flash or use illustrator to build you shape
and then import it in Flash "Copy paste or export as swf". I know
that you have several wavey lines in photoshop. So, to keep them,
you have 3 possibilities.
1- Simply use path in Photoshop and export them into
Illustrator set them a color and use it in Flash
or
2- Import your image in Flash, then use the Trace Bitmap
option (Modify / Bitmap / Trace Bitmap)
or
3- Import you PNG in Illustrator and Convert it into shape
usign the Live Trace option.
These 3 way works great, depending on the complexity of you
graphics, each one have its own advantages -
I placed a psd file with transparent background on another layer in my InDesign document. The layer below has a color (RGB). When the psd file is placed it changes the color on the layer below. I've tried other psd files thinking something is wrong with my file, but get the same result. I have tried for days to figure this out. Can anyone help me?
Wow, thank you! That was fast. I googled that question to death and even bought (another) book on CS5 and never saw that answer. Thank you so much. You made a very good ending to my day! I'd buy you a beer if I could!!
