  • Upgrade details 15" MBP

I just finished upgrading my old MBP - pre Santa-Rosa.
It has BC1.4 and XP-Pro installed in addition to Tiger.
    Here is my story:
12:20PM local time: inserted Leopard DVD
    Reboot, default option is upgrade.
Here is where many may get lost. At this screen you have to choose "Options" in order to see all three install options - upgrade (default), A&I and E&I
I am the kind of person who would choose the default, upgrade, escpecially since I have a bootable clone of Tiger, unplugged from the MBP.
    12:25 Standard DVD self-check - OK - 12:48
    12:48 Install begins
Initially says time remaining 2:10 quickly jumps down to :45 by 1:11PM
    Reboot at 1:30
    Login to Leopard 1:32
    Connect to .mac
    Done: 1:38
Total time: 1 hour 12 minutes
    Problems to date: none
Airport was turned off by default, I turned it on in order to tie in my .mac account.
My router is encrypted - Leopard connected, meaning that the keychain with router pw is OK.
    Will check Windows later.
This is my second box to upgrade to Leopard. My G5 also went without a hitch.
I believe that preparation is key to a successful Leopard install, but I understand that there can be issues.
I did a disk check and filesystem verification before upgrading - both were OK.
When I upgraded my G5, I remarked that it didn't look any different from Tiger. This is because Leoapard, with an upgrade or migration maintains the exact same desktop, and since my dock is on autohide, there really is no difference in the look. But the "feel" is quite different.
I turned on TM and it figured out that I wanted to use the larger and empty partition on my LaCie HD. The smaller partition is my bootable Tiger clone.
I am not bragging, only relating my second experience in installing Leopard.
And I did choose the simple upgrade - which is probably the most "difficult" but the best when it works, as mine did.
I am adding this line from the Leopard MBP as an additional test.
Curiously, TM has backed up my WinXP system, too. That's a feature I did not think about.
TM seems quite fast - backup is completed. I also think Spotlight is done - I don't notice any slowness that others have reported immediately after Leopard. Maybe upgrading preserves previous spotlight data??

    Update:
Just booted into XP and installed new drivers. Be patient.
Reboot back into XP - fine.
Wireless internet connection already established. Nothing to do there.
    Now updating AVG.
So far, no problems whatsoever. Leopard did not touch or affect the Windows install in any way.
I can now safely consider this XP install out of beta and start using it for real.
    I don't believe in luck.

  • IOS4 upgrade - details on changes

I am looking for a site or document that explains all the updated functionality that comes with IOS4. I found the user guide, but that is specific to the new hardware as well. I want something that describes the functionality that comes with an upgrade to a 3GS phone.

    A) Cover the camera and take a black picture - that is the solution I have heard of
    B) The phone will automatically close programs that have been in the background for a while and have not be used if resources are needed. Should be no need to worry about shutting things down all the way any more.
    C) Remove your pictures from your phone and re-sync. That has been reported to clear up blurry pictures.

  • 7.0.2 Upgrade issues for 10.2.8

    Hi there,
Software update indicated that I upgrade to 7.0.2 and I duly attempted this twice unsuccessfully - the upgrade proceeded as normal but upon completion I was left with version 6.0.5. After checking the upgrade details I was aware that 7.0.2 requires 10.3.9 or later. I have 3 questions.
    1) Why did software update indicate that I should install 7.0.2 when I am only running 10.3.8?
    2) Having read some of the horror stories in this forum regarding 7.0.2 I am glad I have not installed the update but what are the implications of performing the software update unsuccessfully?? Does this mean that if I upgrade to 10.3.9, iTunes 7.0.2 will automatically install, which I don't now want
    3) How do I prevent iTunes automatically hooking up to the music store if I open iTunes whilst online?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Dave

In reference to #3 - don't select the iTS in the far left column - better yet go to iTunes prefs>Parental> and select the "Disable iTunes Store".

  • ISE 1.2 to 1.3 upgrade clarification question

I am looking to upgrade from ISE version 1.2 to version 1. 3 and am reading through the upgrade guide. The basic steps they outline are to create a repository pointing to disk: and then run the application upgrade prepare using the new repository. They say the prepare should copy the file to the local repository and list the MD5 and SHA256 checksum.
Do I not need to "copy" the file to the server before the prepare or is there a different format for specifying the file on the prepare step? It seems this is looking for a local copy instead on on my FTP server but any format I use to try to specify my FTP server is not working.
The documentation simply gives application upgrade prepare {filename} {repository}.
    Brent

    Hi Brent,
To prepare upgrade you need to get the support bundle on the local disk.
    conf t
    repository local
    url disk:/
    exit
    exit
    copy ftp://<repository_url>/ ise-upgradebundle-1.2.x-to-1.3.0.###.x86_64.tar.gz disk:/
To upgrade using this file, use the following command:
    application upgrade ise-upgradebundle-1.2.x-to-1.3.0.###.x86_64.tar.gz local
You can use prepare to put the file in local repository that you created and then use proceed to upgrade.

    Hi Somar,
I could not find the mentioned post "HR Upgrade". Please let me know the details of the "HR Upgrade" details which need to be kept in mind during upgrading R/3 4.7 to ECC 6.0
Yes, we have got the list of "Modification Objects" using the SPAU. Please confirm that during our upgrade, we just need to work on these objects which were changed/repaired by us according to our business need.
And, apart from that, please let me know should I need to worry about any OSS notes specific to 4.7, which is not applied to our system and got released after the ECC 6.0 Enhancement Release 3.
I understand that if we have a system that has the Patch and SP level as in our production system and do the upgrade to ECC 6.0 all the HR functionalities will be automatically taken care. Please confirm.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    Vijay

Upgrading from BW 3.0B to BW 7.0 (Netweaver 2004s)
    Introduction
This Wiki contains my team’s experiences in upgrading our Business Warehouse System from 3.0B to BW 7.0.
Hopefully it will be useful to anyone else who's about to embark on this. If there's anything I've missed or got wrong, then please feel free to edit it or contact me and I'll try to explain.
Rob Moore - BW Manager, Edwards Limited.
    Overview & Scope
This was to be a technical upgrade of BW only. The new BW 7.0 web functionality & tool suite which requires the Java stack rather than the ABAP stack was out of scope. We had heard that the latter was where most of the problems with the upgrade lay. Our plan is to wait for this part of BW 7.0 to become more stable. Also it has a big front end change and the business didn't have sufficient resource to cope with that much change management.
    Drivers
3.0B at the end of its maintenance
    Opportunities to do better reporting
    Options to utilise BI Accelerator
    Environment
Our R/3 system was at 4.6C and was not going to be upgraded. We have APO at version SCM4.0.
Our BW system is approximately 300 GB, with 125 global users. It was at version 3.0B SP 18
We have Development, Acceptance and Production environments.
    Resource & Timescales
The Project ran for 3.5 months from Feb to May 2007. We used the following resources. The percentages are the approx. amount of their time spent on the project.
    Project Manager * 1 – 70%
    BW technical team * 3 – 50%
    ABAP coder * 1 – 10%
    SAP Systems Development expert * 1 – 20%
    Basis * 1 – 25%
    High Level Plan
These are the basic areas. We planned to complete this process for each environment in turn, learning our lessons at each stage and incorporating into revised plans for the next environment. However we did the Support Packs and Plug-Ins in quick succession on all environments to keep our full transport path open as long as possible.
Upgrade BW to the minimum support pack.
    Install R/3 Plug-ins PI 2004.1
    Run PREPARE on BW
Dbase upgrades (Database & SAP Kernel upgrade)
    System Upgrade
    Summary Task List
This list contains all the basic tasks that we performed. A more detailed check list is shown below for each of the headings.
    #Support Pack Hike
We moved only to the minimum acceptable SP as this seemed most likely to avoid any problems with the 3.0B system prior to the upgrade.
    Apply OSS 780710 & 485741
    Run Baseline for Regression tests
    Full Backup
Apply SP's (we were at SP18, going to SP20)
    SPAU list review
    Regression testing
    #Plug-in installation
    Apply SAP note 684844
Import and patch Basis plugin PI 2004.1
    SPAU list review
    #PREPARE process
    BW Pre-Prepare tasks
    BW - Inconsistent Data fix
    Run PREPARE
    Review of results
    Any showstoppers from PREPARE?
    #Dbase upgrades
    Database Upgrade (FixPak)
    SAP Kernel Upgrade
    #System Upgrade
    Reverse Transport of Queries
Reconnect DAB & SAB to AAE
    Run Baseline for Regression tests
    Full Backup
    Run the Upgrade
    SPAU list review
    Regression testing
    Lessons Learnt
Testing is all! We picked up on a lot of issues, but would have picked up more if we'd had a full copy of our production environment to test over.
Our approach of doing a full upgrade on each environment before moving to the next one paid dividends in giving us experience of issues and timescales.
Write everything down as you go, so that by the time you get to upgrading production you've got a complete list of what to do.
We succeeded because we had people on our team who had enough experience in Basis and BW to be able to troubleshoot issues and not just read the manual.
The SAP upgrade guide is pretty good, if you can understand what they're on about...
Remember the users! The fact that the loads have been successful doesn't count for anything unless the users can see the data in Excel! There's a tendency to get caught up in the technology and forget that it's all just a means to an end.
    Issues & Fixes
I've listed the main issues that we encountered. I have not listed the various issues where Transfer rules became Inactive, DataSources needed replication or we had to reinstall some minor Business Content.
    Unfixed Issues
We could not fix these issues, seems like SP 13 will help.
Can’t delete individual request from ODS
After PREPARE had been run, if we had a load failure and needed to set an ODS request to Red and delete it, we found that we could not. We raised an OSS with SAP but although they tried hard we couldn't get round it. We reset the PREPARE and still the issue persisted. Ultimately we just lived with the problem for a week until we upgraded production.
Error when trying to save query to itself
Any query with a re-usable structure cannot be saved (more thsan once!)
OSS 975510 fixed the issue in Dev and Acc, but NOT in Production! SP 13 may solve this once it's released.
Warning message when running some queries post-upgrade
Time of calculation “Before Aggregation” is obsolete. Not a big issue so we haven't fixed this one yet!
Process Chain Scheduling – Timing error
Process chains get scheduled for the NEXT day sometimes and has to be manually reset.
See OSS 1016317. Implement SP13 to fix this. We will live with it for now .
    Fixed Issues
Duplicate Fiscal Period values in Query
If you open up a drop down box ("Select Filter Value") for Fiscal Year/Period to filter your query, you are presented with duplicate entries for Month & Year.
Due to Fiscal Year Period InfoObject taking data from Master Data not InfoProvider. Thus it picks up all available periods not just Z2.
    Auto-Emails being delayed
Emails coming from BW from process chains are delayed 2 hours on BW before being released
Due to userids that send these emails (e.g. ALEREMOTE) being registered on a diffferent timeazone (i.e. CET) from the BW system (i.e. GMT)
    “Pgm_Not_Found” short dump
Whenever a query is run via RRMX or RSRT
Call transaction RS_PERS_ACTIVATE to Activate History and Personalisation
    Characteristics not found
When running a query the warning message Characteristic does not exist is displayed for the following: 0TCAACTVT, 0TCAIPROV, 0TCAVALID
We activated the three characteristics listed and the warnings stopped. NO need to make them authorisation-relevant at this stage.(also did 0TCAKYFNM)
System generated Z pgms have disappeared
Post-upgrade the system Z-pgms ceased to exist
Discovered in Development so we compared with pre-upgraded Production and then recreated them or copying them from production.
    Conversion issues with some Infoobjects
Data fails to Activate in the ODS targets
For the InfoObjects in question, set the flag so as not to convert the Internal values for these infoobjects
InfoObject has Conversion routine that fails, causing load to fail
The routine prefixes numeric PO Numbers with 0’s. SD loads were failing as it was not able to convert the numbers. Presumably the cause of the failure was the running of the Pre-Prepare RSMCNVEXIT pgm.
Check the Tick box in the Update rule to do the conversion prior to loading rather than the other way round.
Requests fail to Activate on numeric data
Request loads OK (different from above issue) but fails to Activate
Forced conversion within the update rules using Alpha routine. Deleted Request and reloaded from PSA.
Database views missing after pre-PREPARE work
Views got deleted from database, although not from data dictionary
Recreated the views in the database using SE14.
    Workbook role assignations lost
We lost a few thousand workbook assignments when we transported the role they were attached to into Production
The workbooks did not exist in Development, thus they all went AWOL. We wrote an ABAP program to re-assign them in production
    Regression Testing Process
    Introduction
We were limited to what we could do here. We didn't have a sandbox environment available. Nor did we have the opportunity to have a replica of our production data to test with, due to lack of disk space in Acceptance and lack of sufficient Basis resource.
    Set up
We manually replicated our production process chains into test. We didn't have any legacy InfoPackages to worry about. We asked our super-users for a list of their "Top 10" most important queries and did a reverse transport of the queries from Production back into test (as we do not generally have a dev/acc/prodn process for managing queries, and they are mostly created solely in prodn). We made sure every application was represented. In retrospect we should have done some Workbooks as well, although that didn't give us any problems.
    Actions
Prior to the various changes we loaded data via the Process chains and ran the example queries to give ourselves a baseline of data to test against. After the change we ran the same queries again and compared the results against the baseline. We tried to keep R/3 test environments as static as possible during this, although it wasn't always the case & we often had to explain away small changes in the results. After upgrading BW Development we connected it to Acceptance R/3, so that we had pre-upgrade (BW Acceptance) and post-upgrade (BW Development) both taking data from the same place so we could compare and contrast results on both BW systems. We did the same thing once BW Acceptance had been upgrading by connecting it (carefully!) to Production R/3. To get round the lack of disk space we tested by Application and deleted the data once that Application had been signed off. Once we got to System test we involved super-users to sign off some of the testing.
    Security
We chose to implement the new security schema rather than choosing the option to stick with old. For us, with a relatively small number of users we felt we could get away with this & if it all went wrong, just temporarily give users a higher level role than they needed. Our security roles are not complex: we have end user, power-user and InfoProvider roles for each BW application, together with some common default roles for all. In the event we simply modified the default "Reports" role that all our users are assigned, transported it and it all went smoothly. Apart from the fact that everyone's workbooks are assigned to this role and so we "lost" them all !
    Transport Freeze
Once you've upgraded Development you've lost your transport path. We planned around this as best we could and when absolutely necessary, developed directly in Acceptance or Production, applying those changes back to Development once the project was complete. Depending on what other BW projects you have running this may or may not cause you pain!
    Web Applications
    Dashboards
We had various dashboards designed via Web Application Designer. All these continued to function on the upgraded system. However there were various formatting changes that occurred e.g. Bar graphs were changed to line graphs, text formats on axes changed etc. SAP provides an upgrade path for moving your Web applications by running various functions. However we took the view that we would simply re-format our dashboards manually, as we didn't have very many to do. Plus the external IGS (see below) powered all our environments and needs upgrading separately as part of the SAP method. Thus we couldn't have tested the SAP path in Development without risking Production. Sticking with manual mods was a lower risk approach for us. We did find we had to re-activate some templates from BC to get some of the reports to continue to work.
    Internet Graphics Server (IGS)
We had an external IGS server with v3.0B. Post-upgrade the IGS becomes part of the internal architecture of BW and thge external server is redundant. We found no issues with this; after the upgrade BW simply stops using the external IGS and no separate config was needed.

  • MOPZ and landscape upgrade

    Dear Gurus,
We have ECC and CRM and SCM systems.
We are going to upgrade ECC to the next stack. Can MOPZ tell me if I need to update CRM and SCM also or not?
    Regards
    Vladimir Kogan

    Hi Vladimir,
In LMDB if the landscape Pattern is Hub (When the technical system is used in several product systems) then during MOPZ stack generation it will show the respective landscape upgrade details.
if the landscape Pattern is Sidecar(When the technical system is used in single product systems)
MOPZ will show only the particular upgrade details.
if the ECC is sidecar, then MNOPZ will show only the respective stack details. or ECC is added like HUB like ERP 6.0, SAP netwear 7.0 and  SAP SRM , then it will show all the product system upgrade details

  • System Upgrade/Optimization for Specific Software Installation

Can anyone provide hardware upgrade details for running Adobe Creative Suite 2 Standard (2006 release)? I have a MacMini (2005 version) and cannot fully install this software. I am a fairly novice Mac user and need to install and use CS2 for a new job. Can anyone provide upgrade specifications and approximate cost for running this program without degredation of performance? Thank you, in advance.

    MacMini   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
I have a MacMini (2005 version) and cannot fully install this software.
It would also help to know how you know the software is not fully installed, what indicators do you have?
If it's a performance issue, beyond additional memory (if not maxed out) or a faster hard drive (assuming adequate free space on the existing drive), there's not many levers available.
I think a 2005 mini is a PPC mini, however, if it's Intel-based, then running CS2 under Rosetta emulation, which cuts performance roughly in half, can be remedied by using CS3 which was just released as a univeral application.

  • BI70 upgrade and landscape sizing

We are currently part of the BI70 ramp up. Our whole BW landscape (21 systems) is currently running on BW 3.1 SPS 22. By upgrading the BW abap to BI70, I would like to have an estimate on how to size the different systems.
The quicksizer only allow us to  enter data for a new installation and not to have the delta between different version.
So could anybody advice on how we can plan for the new sizing for the currently used process ? and how the additional or specifc BI70 process could impact the sizing in terms of Memory, CPU, disk capacity ?
    Thanks

  • M505 will no longer sync

    Hello,
    Syncing problems - but different.
I am trying to sync an old m505 to a new HP desktop.
    - Palm m505, OS 4.1
    - new HP desktop: Windows 7 Pro, 32-bit.
The m505 has worked fine for years on a previous XP computer (now dead from hard drive failure). Syncing via serial cable.
On the new PC I installed and reinstalled both Palm Desktop 4.1.4 and then 6.2,. along with palmhotsyncsetup. But still no luck - the sync cannot establish a connection. I've done a soft reset twice and now a hard reset.
I even bought a serial to usb adapter thinking maybe the usb cradle/charger was faulty, but that didn't work either.
Now the strange part... I have another m505 (given to me as a backup - I wasn't sure if it would even charge up as it sat in drawer for past few years...). I tried to sync with cradle/charger and it connected! So how can that be? As far as I know the only difference between the 2 hand-helds is that my current device's OS is 4.1 and the back up device was never upgraded, so OS is still 4.0. I don't recall now what the upgrade details where from 4.0 to 4.1.
So now I uninstalled Palm Desktop 6.2 software again. Reinstalled 4.0 from disk. Upgraded to Palm Desktop 4.1.4 and then synced to the 2nd device. So far it seems to be working.  BUT, the 2nd device won't hold a charge so is not reliable. I left it charge overnight and it still will only stay on for a few seconds and turns off.
Has anyone heard of this issue? Why would one device (same model) be able to establish sync connection and the other not? When it was working fine in Windows XP just days ago?
    Any insight/advice appreciated
    Stumped,
    Brent
    Post relates to: Palm m505

Check the HotSync settings on the device that refuses to sync - perhaps it's set to some other method than cable!
Compare both devices.  Pull down the HotSync menu from the top left corner and go line by line.
