PO format (smartform): PDF vs HTML ?

Hi everybody,
An easy question for smart guys:
- Right now, in TX: Scot I configured that the smartforms should be converted to PDF. Due to this configuration, all my PO's are sent to my suppliers in PDF format.
Is there a way to combine 2 formats ? I mean, I would like to send the PO's via html (mail) and also attached in pdf format.
Is it possible ?
Thank you ! =)
Regards from mexico,
Diego

Hi Diego,
The PO edition formats available are:
-Mail (smartform in pdf in attachment to the mail)
-printing
-Fax
-EDI (with XI or SAP BC for older versions)
There is no standard option for HTML format, but you should be abble to acomplish that either with XI, or by modifying the standard program that generates the email to the supplier (I'll try to get you the exact program name tomorow).
The customizing point in IMG that allows you to generate several editions for your documents is document edition conditioning.
Regards.

Hi Guus,
We are not using the new authorizations we are still on 3.5 authorization and we tried for an user with SAP_ALL, SAP_NEW authorization , so i am not sure if this is an authorization problem.
We have a new issue on hand, initially i was able to broadcast thru xml,mhtml, xml formats, yesterday our portal was down, when the portal was brought up, i found that even the ones that were working were now throwing an error.
I spoke with the basis person, and he told me user mappings were lost, but even after restoring the user mapping were restored we still have the problem.
If this error is caused by lack of new authorization, atleast we know what we are dealing with, but for now iam not sure if this error is due to authorization or some settings on the web server side.

I am in the process of expanding a database of chemistry journal articles. These materials are ideally acquired in two formats when both are available-- PDF and HTML. To oversimplify, PDFs are for the user to read, and derivatives of the HTML versions are for the computer to read. Both formats are, of course, readily recognized and indexed by Spotlight. Journal articles have two essential components with regards to a database: the topical content of the article itself, and the cited references to other scientific literature. While a PDF merely lists these references, the HTML version has, in addition, links to the cited items. Each link URL contains the digital object identifier (doi) for the item it points to. A doi is a unique string that points to one and only one object, and can be quite useful if rendered in a manner that enables indexing by Spotlight. Embedded URL's are, of course, ignored by Spotlight. As a result, HTML-formatted articles must be processed so that URL's are openly displayed as readable text before Spotlight will recognize them. Conversion to DOC format using MS Word, followed by conversion to RTF using Text Edit accomplishes this, but is quite labor intensive.
In the last few months, I have added about 3,500 articles to this collection, which means that any procedure for rendering URL's must be automated and able to process large batches of documents with minimal user oversight. This procedure needs to generate a separate file for each HTML document processed. Trials using Automator's "Get Specified Finder Items" and "Get Selected Finder Items", as well as "Ask For Finder Items" (along with "Get URLs From Web Pages") give unsatisfactory results. When provided with multiple input documents, these three commands generate output in which the URLs from multiple input items are merged into a single block, which yields a single file using "Create New Word Document" as the subsequent step. A one-to-one, input file to output file result can be obtained by processing one file at a time, but this requires manual selection of each item and one-at-a-time processing. What I need is a command that accepts multiple input documents, but processes them one at a time, generating a separate output for each file processed. Is there a way for Automator to do this?

Hi,
With the project all done, i'm preparing for the presentation. Managed to get my hands on a HD beamer for the night (Epason TW2000) and planning to do the presentation in HD.
That of course managed to bring up some problems. I posted a thread which i'll repost here . Sorry for the repost, i normally do not intend to do this, but since this thread is actually about the same thing, i'd like to ask the same question to you. The end version is in AfterEffects, but that actually doesn't alter the question. It's about export:
"I want to export my AE project of approx 30 min containing several HD files to a Blu Ray disc. The end goal is to project the video in HD quality using the Epson EMP-TW2000 projector. This projector is HD compatible.
To project the video I need to connect the beamer to a computer capable of playing a heavy HD file (1), OR burn the project to a BRD (2) and play it using a BRplayer.
I prefer option 2, so my question is: which would be the preferred export preset?
Project specs:
- 1920x1080 sq pix  (16:9)
- 25 fps
- my imported video files (Prem.Pro sequences) are also 25 fps and are Progressive (!)
To export to a BRD compatible format, do i not encounter a big problem: my projectfiles are 25 fps and progressive, and I believe that the only Bluray preset dispaying 1920x1080 with 25 fps requests an INTERLACED video (I viewed the presets found on this forum, this thread)... There is also a Progr. format, BUT then you need 30 fps (29,...).
So, is there one dimension that can be changed without changing the content of the video, and if yes which one (either the interlacing or the fps).
I'm not very familiar with the whole Blu-ray thing, I hope that someone can help me out."
Please give it a look.
Thanks,
Jef

Requirement is that we have to change the Output Option to "XSF+HTML" and Display a logo at Top-Middle of the form.

• Acrobat 9- convert pdf to html, not retaining format as original pdf.

I'm needing to upload a completed irs form to my website. I have the pdf, but when i export or save as an html file, the image looks different. It is not retaining the original look/format of the pdf form.
Alternatively, is there a way to export multiple pages into one single jpg, png or tiff file? my document is 34 pages.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Amy

HTML by its very nature has a varying format to meet the needs of the browser and screen. It should never be expected to see the same format when converting to HTML. Actually I am surprised you could even convert it to HTML since most IRS forms are secure and do not allow such operations. If you want to post it to your site for some reason, just post the PDF file itself.

Hi Srinivasan
Reports PDF output is high fidelity offering from Oracle Reports. I recommend you to use it as much as possible.
Regarding HTML/CSS, I feeling is that is not currently possible to format the way you say you want to. If this issue is very critical to your business, I suggest you to contact Oracle Support.

• How to save diagramm in HTML format or PDF it

how to save diagramm in HTML format or PDF it

You have two alternatives. First of all, there are many utilities, some of them free that can put a "printer" on your printer list that really writes a PDF file. The one I use is free, called CutePDF. Once you have one of these installed, saving to PDF is as simple as print the diagram, choose the printer associated with your utility, then name the file.
I'm not sure if it is in your version of Designer, but all of the latest versions of Designer have a "publish diagram" utility. Just drop down the Utilities menu from the RON or the Design Editor. The bottom selection should be "Publish Diagrams...", which will open a dialog window. Choose the diagram(s) you want to publish, select Publish to File, enter a file name, and select a graphics format from PNG, GIF, JPEG, BMP or TIFF. You can easily add the file to an HTML page inside an <IMG> tag.

• PDF or HTML for mobile Technical Documentation and Newsletters

Hi,
I've been reviewing the pros and cons for PDF and HTML for mobile technical documentation and newsletters and wanted to get your honest thoughts on this.
Here's the scenario:
I need to create mobile technical documenation and newsletters that are interactive, i.e. video, commenting/annotating, links, forms, etc.
Given how the mobile publishing market is rapidly evolving, what is the most practical format, (with minimum format issues) to use for both short term and long term? PDF or HTML? Why?
Based on your choice, which format would you use for non-interactive documents that offers the most creative options and usability? Why?
Paul

Hyper Text Markup Language ( HTML ) is going to work better. Mainly because the way mobile is setup, the interface has to conform to the device and with the other elements coded into the interface, HTML is far better. You keep referring to usability, so even in non-interactive scenarios in mobile documentation, you're better off using HTML.

• Generate pdf and html(urgent)

can anybody tell how to generate pdf and html from a single report,
thanks in adv

From a single report, you can generate outputs to html, htmlcss, pdf, rtf, XML and text formats.
If you use rwclient, rwrun or rwservlet methods, specify desformat=pdf/html and the destination file name in desname command line parameters.
If you use Reports Builder, open a report, select File->Generate to file and select html/pdf. Then give the file name.
For more details, Refer to Reports Tutorial / Publishing Reports document from this site.

If any body else had same issues and was able to resolve, please suggest. Also I am trying to convert form spool output to html and send it but I am not able to use LIST_FROM_MEMORY Fm , its not returning the abap list table. So is there a way to convert form spool output to abap list?

• Converting the layout from OTF format into PDF

Hi Experts,
I am new to SMART FORMS,I don't have a clue about how to convert the layout from OTF format into PDF format and how to store it in Presentation server.
Please send me a Model program or step by step approach of the same.
Useful inputs will be rewarded higher points.
Thanks in Advance,
Dharani

Hi,
The steps are given below:-
1) First get the name of your generated function module for the smartforms.
2) Then call the generated function module.
3) Then use the FM:CONVERT_OTF' to convert into PDF as shown below:-
call function 'CONVERT_OTF'
EXPORTING
format                = 'PDF'
IMPORTING
bin_filesize          = w_pdf_len
bin_file              = w_pdf_xstring
TABLES
OTF                   = OUTPUT_DATA-OTFDATA
LINES                = LT_LINES
EXCEPTIONS
err_max_linewidth     = 1
err_format            = 2
err_conv_not_possible = 3
err_bad_otf           = 4
others                = 5.
Hope this is clear.

• Export pdf to html/txt/xml

Hi,
I downloaded "adobe acrobat x pro" for trying the "save as"/export functionality to xml/htm/text etc. and the result was exactly what I was looking for in terms of output, keeping formatting etc.
However, I am building an application which need to have an embeded library in order to do pdf to html/txt/xml conversion on the fly keeping formatting.
I have tried a number of libraries for pdf to html/txt/xml conversion an none of them deliver anything near what adobe acrobat x pro does in terms om keeping format/tables etc.
So, my question is how can I get access to the "save as"/export functionality in adobe acrobat x pro in any official adobe library, sdk, service, product etc. since I assume acrobat x pro does not expose any api for convert functionality or may be used serverside?
Best regards,
Rick

It sounds like you want to use Acrobat as a web service. Rather than pursue this route, you may want to note that such a use of Acrobat is not permitted under the license. Thus it may not worth pursuing. Why convert to HTML is a possible question anyway, at least on a regular basis? On occasions I can understand the need.
For programmable features you should probably check in the SDK forum.

• 3.0 Shared Component - Report Format - all PDF

Greetings,
Details
I have been working with the REPORTS - REPORT QUERIES section of APEX 3.0
The testing I have been doing is very simple, but I am running into a bit of a stumper.
I have created 4 report queries on the EMP table (SELECT * FROM EMP) that all use the same REPORT LAYOUT. The RTF file which is the template is a very simple - show all columns and rows for the EMP table (14 rows).
I have set each of the 4 report layouts to a different format.
1 - PDF
1 - EXCEL
1 - WORD
1 - HTML
I am NOT using the ITEM to dynamically set the format.
I can TEST each of the reports in the shared component area, and they test OK with a success rate of 75%.
The EXCEL format does not export correctly. (using Excel 2002 on the client) It is a bit of a mess. (Works in the XML publisher template builder on the client.. so the format is not the issue.)
More curious is the behavior when I put this application. I have created a LIST of the 4 report formats. All 4 return the PDF format when used.
To see the Application:
http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=34096
Question Summary:
1 - Has anyone run with and tested the RTF style report layouts out to Excel?
2 - The approach described usees 4 report queries against 1 layout. Is this a VALID use of the report functionality?
3 - Why would all the reports try to use PDF when they test in the correct formats?
Best Regards and Thank You.
-- Tim

Tim,
The Excel output is not strictly XLS, it's actually HTML formatted in a way that Excel understands and through setting the MIME-types we make it open in Excel. I have to try reproducing your specific problem with Excel 2002. If you could send me your RTF layout and the end-result ([email protected]), I can take a look.
Your approach using 4 different queries with the same layout is perfectly fine. Ideally of course, you would not have to replicate them same query four times, so we are considering a shared query concept for future version of Application Express.
You specific problem with the output format being PDF at runtime appears to be a bug, I'll investigate further. Meanwhile one work-around would be to use a report region instead. If you're using the same SQL query as the source, you can associate the same report layout (on the report print attributes page). You could also create a "container" page for that report region, that's never actually called by the end user, and then have a button pointing to the URL below for printing. It would then work just like your report queries, only that you now would get the requested format:
f?p=&APP_ID.:[REPORT PAGE ID]:&SESSION.:FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R[REPORT REGION ID]
so if your app ID is 34096 and your "container" page e.g. 99, and on page 99 your report region ID would be 1234567890, then use this URL as the button target:
f?p=&APP_ID.:99:&SESSION.:FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R1234567890
Hope this helps,
Marc
