PO8i Installation
Hi,
Is any one know personal oracle will work in Windows Millennium. I tried
to install PO8i for Windows98 and Oracle8i Enterprise Edition for WinsowsNT/2000 .
Both are giving same error. After giving source (Stage area) and Destination
(Oracle Home), After selecting source and destination. Installer will do 'Loading product information'. After finished
loading it is displaying the message 'There was a problem in accessing the staging area. Please make sure
the specified values for 'SOURCE' and 'DESTINATION'. I given source as
c:\PO8i\stage\product.jar and destination as c:\PO8i.
Any help on this issue are appreciated.
Thanks

I believe that you need to have NETWORKING setup even if this is a standalone system.

Oracle Installation or Uninstallation Solutions For Windows 95/98/2000/ME/NT/XP
You must read carefully the following steps here. If you previously installed any Oracle's products on your machine, I strongly recommend you to clean up thoroughly before install the new products.
================================================================
Uninstallation
The easiest way to remove ALL traces of Oracle software, for an 8i installation, is:
(1) Using regedit, remove the key \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\ORACLE.
(2) Remove all the Oracle services (usually called Ora-something) from \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services.
(3) Go to the ORACLE_HOME directory (usually C:\Oracle\Ora81). Go to the BIN directory beneath this. Rename the file OCIW32.DLL to something like OCIW32.OLD.
(4) Reboot your box.
(5) Once you have logged on again, delete the directories C:\Program Files\Oracle and C:\Oracle.
(6) Right-click on My Computer, select Properties->Environment. Edit the environmental variable PATH to remove all refernces to files in the two directories you have just deleted.
(7) Remove the Oracle folders from your Start menu.
*** Obviously, using regedit on your machine always entails risks, and I won't be held responsible if you end up trashing your system. However, the above procedure is one I have used many times with complete success. You have been warned! ;) ***
As to logging on, the "standard" Oracle accounts are:
SYS/change_on_install (SYSDBA - database owner)
SYSTEM/manager (Owns various VIEWs and utility PACKAGEs)
and (optionally):
SCOTT/tiger (Training account containing some sample tables)
If you're using PO8i on the local machine, you shouldn't need to worry about setting up NET*8 (Oracle's networking protocols)
=================================================================
Windows 95 and 98
This will remove all Oracle products, Oracle services, and Oracle registry entries from your computer.
Complete the following steps to create a Clean Machine. Backup any relevant databases before proceeding!
On Windows 95 and Windows 98:
1. Ensure you shutdown your Oracle. Right click on the Oracle Icon in the toolbar and click on the shutdown option.
2. Un-install all your Oracle products if possible. Use universal installer to do that. Ignore this step if you dont have universal installer on your machine.
3. In regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE.
4. Delete the ORACLE key.
5. Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and remove your %ORACLE_HOME%\bin and JRE paths from the path setting.
6. From the Windows Explorer (or from the command prompt), delete the Oracle directory (Oracle Base).
7. Delete <system_drive>:\Program Files\Oracle (from the Windows NT Explorer or from the command prompt).
8. Delete Icons from <system_drive>: \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle - <HOME> and <system_drive>:\Windows\StartMenu\Programs\Oracle Installation Products. Where <HOME> is the previous HOME name.
9. Reboot your computer.
On Windows NT:
1. Ensure you are logged in as a user with Administrator privileges.
2. Stop all Oracle Services through Control Panel Services. Use universal installer to un-install your Oracle products. Ignore un-install if you dont have universal installer on your machine.
3. Using regedit (at the command prompt, type regedit), go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE and delete the ORACLE key.
4. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services, and remove all keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services that begin with ORACLE.
5. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application, and remove all keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application that begin with ORACLE.
6. Close regedit.
7. From the Control Panel, open System.
8. If JRE was installed by Oracle, remove the %ORACLE_HOME%\BIN path and the JRE path. For example, you may see a path similar to this one: C:\ORACLE\ORAxx\BIN;G: \Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\bin. Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Environment tab. Click on the system variable path and modify the path.
9. Delete Icons from <system_drive>:\Winnt\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle - <HOME> and <system_drive>:\Winnt\Profiles\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle Installation Products. Where <HOME> is the previous HOME name.
10. Delete <system_drive>:\Program Files\Oracle (from the Windows NT Explorer or from the command prompt).
11. Reboot your computer.
12. Delete all ORACLE_BASE directories (You can find the Oracle homes listed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\ORACLE_HOMES).

Platforms Affected
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the
Sun JRE
and Symmantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows NT,
Windows 2000
and NetWare platforms are confirmed to be affected.
Description
~~~~~~~~~~~
When installing Oracle Products with the Oracle Universal
Installer (8.1.x)
on machines that use the Sun JRE and Symmantec JIT, the
installer hangs.
Specifically for the Windows platform, the following version
of the Symmantec
JIT or earlier will encounter the failure:
Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for JDK
1.2.
Details regarding this issue can be found at:
http://developer.intel.com/design/processor/future/manuals/knowni ssue.htm
How to determine if you have Symmantec Java for JDK 1.2:
1. Select the file "symcjit.dll" and right click on it.
2. Select Properties, then the Version tab.
3. Under Microsoft Windows*, the properties of the DLL are:
"Symantec Java! JustInTime Compiler Version 3.10.107 for
JDK 1.2 Copyright (C)
1996-99 Symantec Corporation Dynamic Link Library file".
DLLs older than this will also not work. "
Likelihood of Occurrence
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the
Sun JRE
and Symmantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows NT,
Windows 2000 and NetWare platforms are confirmed to be
affected.
Possible Symptoms
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The failure typically is that the affected application simply
terminates.
Workaround
~~~~~~~~~~
Not only will OUI be affected by this bug, most of the
post-install
configuration tools will also be affected. Running these
tools with "-nojit"
specified will avoid the hang, but it is not simple to specify
"-nojit" for
some of the products.
The following workaround works for the Windows operating
system:
a. Copy only the install directory from the CD to the hard
disk ,say, e:\temp.
b. Open oraparam.ini and make the following modifications
(Assuming CD
drive is f:)
* Change the "SOURCE=" line to use the full path to the CD
instead of a
relative path. (i.e., SOURCE=f:\stage\products.jar)
* Change the "JRE_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the
CD instead of a
relative path. (i.e.,
JRE_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\jre\1.1.7\1\DataFiles
\Expanded)
* Change the "OUI_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the
CD instead of a
relative path. (i.e.,
OUI_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\oui\1.6.0.9.0\1\DataF
iles\Expanded
* Change the "JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS" line to add "-nojit" as the
first argument.
(i.e., JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m)
^^^^^^
* Other entries should remain the same
c. Launch setup.exe from the temporary location on your hard
drive (i.e.
e:\temp\install\win32\setup.exe). This will use the
modified
oraparam.ini and pick up the information from the CD since
the absolute
locations are specified.
Choose a Custom install and choose not to create a database
during the
install. This way, the Database Configuration Assistant will
not be launched
during installation.
The Net8 Configuration Assistant will still be launched, and
there is no way
to suppress it. You will need to kill the Net8 Configuration
Assistant if it
hangs due to the bug. The installation still will have been
successful, and
you can run the DBCA and NetCA after installation.
To kill NetCA if it hangs during installation:
In the "Configuration Tools" window, highlight the "Net8
Configuration
Assistant" and click "Stop". If that does not work, look for
the most recent
JRE process using the Task Manager, and kill it manually.
NOTE: the OUI
itself will also have a jre process. Be sure to kill the one
with the most
recent date, which should be the jre process being used for
Net8CA, not the
one for OUI itself.
After killing the configuration tools and continuing through
the installation
to the "End of Installation" screen, you should modify the
configuration tools
to use "-nojit", then call the appropriate tools from the
Start Menu.
Once installation is complete, each of the following files in
the ORACLE_HOME
needs to be modified:
assistants\dbca\dbassist.cl
assistants\dbma\dbmig.cl
assistants\ifa\ifa.cl
bin\elogin.cl
bin\owm.cl
ldap\oidamdin\oidadmin.cl
network\tools\netasst.cl
network\tools\netca.cl
owm\install\instelogin.cl
owm\install\instowm.cl
Edit the contents of the above files to add "-nojit" as shown
below:
Command=("C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\BIN\JREW" -nojit
-classpath ....
this is the only thing you need to add --> ^^^^^^
Then, launch the necessary tools, like Net8CA and DBCA from
the Start Menu.
Patches
~~~~~~~
Currently there is not a patched installer available to deal
with this
problem, the workaround listed above must be used.

The solution of making a local copy of the installation CD on

Windows ME
Solution to the installation of Oraclei8.1.7 PE in Windows Millennium
Oracle does not support installing version 8.1.7 PE into
Windows Millennium.
As an unsupported workaround, you may add the following line
to the [compatibility95] section of win.ini prior to
installation:
Jrew=0x00080000
After setup is complete, Oracle will recommend a reboot.
There is one additional step necessary prior to reboot;
Oracle may add a non-standard path statement to the
autoexec.bat file. Please modify this SET PATH
statement to use short-filenames if you find a quoted
LFN string represented as part of the path. You can
confirm that the path was merged successfully into the
registry after reboot by examining the PATH variable
in the registry at
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Environment
Symptoms of a missing Oracle path statement in the registry are that Net8 Easy Config will not launch.
Please note that Oracle does not support the use of this
product in Windows ME, but have authorized these workarounds
for testing purposes only.

Windows XP Home Edition
Oracle 8i is not certified on windows XP. Even if yes, it must be Windows XP Professional.
You can install Oracle8i on windows XP Home Edition, try like this:
1 - Copy your Oracle CD into hard disk in your
machine. For example Copy from oracle8i CD into C:\Oracle\ ...
2 - Search the two files named Symcjit.dll on the D drive (where you have copied Oracle8i. You can found them in (example):
C:\Oracle\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30\1
\DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll
3 - Rename this file (Example): symcjit_back.dll (make sure to find two files and rename them)
4 - Execute the Oracle setup.exe from C:\Oracle\setup.exe
===============================================================
When Oracle 8i dies on the install or the installer hangs, here is the fix for this, make sure that you have Service Pack 2 installed.
1. \JRE\1.3.1\ From Sun. (You can download java program at http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/jre/download-jre-windows.html)
2. Install the java file.
There is also a problem in the installation disk.
3. Make a copy of the Oracle 8i disk on the local hard disk.
4. Do a search for the two files called symcjit.dll and rename them for example: symcjit.old.
5. Install Oracle from the win32 directory.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ORACLE DOESN'T SUPPORT THE USE OF THOSE PRODUCTS IN WINDOWS ME, BUT HAVE AUTHORIZED THESE WORKAROUNDS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY
Best Regards,
Beau LeoHi,Beau Leo, I am having problem installing Oracle9i Database Rel.2 on my pc.
I read the suggestion and solution you posted for fixing Oracle 8.1.x installation
probblem, and since my pc also hung at 48% while installing Oracle 9i software,
I wonder if the same problem in the Oracle8 Vs.Pentium4 also exists for Oracle9i.
I have Windows2000,256RAM, Pentium3 1Ghz, and 13.8 free diskspace. But the installation always
hangs at 48%, my computer will just shut down and restart automatically without
even showing an error message. I have tried installing the Enterprise edition for 3
times already but everytime encountered the same problem. I've also tried custom installation
by selecting not to create database, but it also hung.
Before I started each installation, I always made sure that my registry and environment
path are cleared and that all the partially-installed Oracle files are deleted.
I hope that you or anyone who has a solution for this problem could be so kindly to help me out.
Thank you in advance.

Question to WOZI - about connection from Dev.2.1 to PO8
After reading the discussion about all kind of installation I could install d2k release 2.1 and PO8.0 into same oracle_home.
Other combinations didn't sucseed.
Both workin independently, but i can't
connect them.
I did exectly like you told but it not working.
I even can't do the database alias using
tcp/ip - only Bequeath(Local Database).
Help me please!!!!!!!!!This definitely occurs in 1.5.5 - in my particular case, and this is really strange, if one uses Task Manager to shut down SQLDeveloper because it is just taking forever to get a Data view (via the + expand sign on the side of a given admittedly big table, then clicking on the Data tab), SQLDeveloper freezes. Even if I start a new instance of SQLDeveloper, and ask for a Data view again, it freezes - I've waited as much as 1/2 hour, where as in prior days I'd get a response within say 1 min.
I've even uninstalled and re-installed. Same deal. This is what's the strangest by far. How can it be that SQLDeveloper remembers that a long running query was once canceled even after an uninstall / reinstall ? I could not find anything remotely related to this in the Registry after the uninstall either.
[By the way, if on the other hand, I say SELECT * FROM {table_name}, I get an instant response !] -
I have made a project using oracle PO8 but now i want to make an installation file of this project so that enduser just click on the set up and every required program i.e Oralce 8 and the Project gets install and the project starts functioning.
A brief and step by step supervision is required on immediate basis...
thank uI could suggest you to find out, first of all, about the silent installation mode in 8.0, you should completely be aware that this release dates back to 98, 10 years ago, and no support can be found. There are very few people who currently has this release and performing a silent install with 8.0, even if this is possible, it is not throughfully documented at the manual reference. But if you want to give it a try, documents can be found at --> http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oracle8.html
Next, once you have understood the silent install procedure in 8.0 just create a batch file and you may use any regular software installer such as Install Shield, just to name one out of many kind of software installers.
On the other hand, if you are trying to skip license payment using this so old release or if your software was designed for the 8.0 environment, may be you should consider using Oracle XE, it is more likely you will find documentation and people who know about it, additionally it is free.

I was not adding anything to Firefox. I Refused tool bars embedded in several application installs on this new computer. Was working fine. Then had a problem with Google search, restored default values and re-tooled Firefox. At this point all worked fine. Then my url, address bar changed color to the same color as the program shell, a grey brown as opposed to the white it was before. With the change in color it no longer allows me to change the data showing in the bar. I can not delete or add data. I used to add a url and navigate to the domain. Now I can not
Greetings,
TY for the reply, the information was enlightening to be sure. I never knew safe mode was an option with Firefox. I have so many tasks running that I didn't want to shut things down. What I did is turn off some of the last plug-ins I installed. That did not fix the problem at least in the first look. What happened next was very interesting none the less. I had a moment of mouse spastic wrist syndrome and accidentally moved a tab in such a way that it opened in a new window. The URL bar was white and editable. So I moved all my tabs to the new window and everything works as it should. I have restarted Firefox this morning and it came back with the bar editable and I am speechless to understand what I may have done to correct the problem if anything ?? -

Installation problem with NW'04 SR1: database connection failed
Hi all,
while installing NW '04 SR1 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 and MS SQL Server 2000 SP4 I ran into an error related to the database connection. While performing the step "Load Java Database content" SAPinst crashes with the message
com.sap.sql.log.OpenSQLException: Could not load class com.ddtek.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver.
The connection to the SLQ Server with e.g. the Query Analyzer is OK. I had a problem with this installation setup before (have a look at the corresponding <a href="https://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=338638&tstart=0">thread</a> ), the JDBC drivers where missing on the installation master but after copying them in the right direction the installation went on with no problem up to this point...
Has anybody an idea what could have happened here? Is this maybe a problem connected to the one I recently had

Flash 12.0.0.77 plugin installs to wrong folder
In Vista x64, using either Firefox 28 or Firefox 24.4 ESR, the plugin installer (one downloaded from Adobe distribution) installs the 32 bit .dll file to \system32\macromedia\flash\ folder;
installs the 64 bit .dll to: \sysWOW64\macromedia\flash\ folder. So, they're exacly reversed.
I uninstalled it completely - went well. Then removed 1 remaining file in one of the above paths, then reinstalled. Did the same thing.
Before I did all this - I was *very sporadically* seeing the FlashPlayerPlugin_12_0_0_77.exe file, running (kinda "sitting") in background, in task manager. It never came to foreground w/ a UI, asking for anything. Couldn't figure out what it was, until started looking in the installation folders.
That's what lead to discovery the files were in wrong folders.
Anyone heard of this?
BTW, "Nayana" of Adobe Support chat, is a few bricks shy of a load. Or I am. I couldn't create an acct for forums. She kept saying, you don't need an acct - "just post your question. Other people will answer it."EDIT: Seems there's no error in Flash installing to wrong folders, only error in my brain. Why didn't someone stop me from embarrassing myself?
System32 (in a 64 bit OS / architecture) is for 64 bit drivers, files; SysWOW64 is for 32 bit apps running in 64 bit OS.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WoW64
WoW64 (Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit) is a subsystem of the Windows operating system capable of running 32-bit applications and is included on all 64-bit versions of Windows
Also, http://www.samlogic.net/articles/32-64-bit-windows-folder-x86-syswow64.htm (section on SysWoW64)
End Edit.
Thanks for info on attaching images. A bit different than most forums. There's no "preview post" before submitting?
Screenshots of the 2 flash folder contents.
NOTE: I attached full FlashInstall.log earlier. I opened the 1.25 MB (text) file in an editor - copied contents to clipboard > paste to forum reply screen. Immediately locked up Firefox like a big dog. Couldn't perform any functions in Fx - not even reload or close browser. At same time, Fx memory use was continually climbing; to nearly 2 GB when I killed it. Won't make that mistake again.
Been many yrs since Fx locked up, doing anything. That aside, Adobe is definitely "different" than most forums. Almost like a person w/ no $ to use one of the many forum softwares available.
Most recent Flash installation logs.

Installation problem on Solaris
I am trying to install sun one 7.0 on Solaris 8. The install is failing with this error:
ERROR - library load failed with following error: Can't load library: /opt/SUNWappserver7/lib/libinstallCore.so
INFO - End core server uninstallation
anyone know what causes this??
cheersLooks like Solaris package installation failed and installer reverted to uninstallation sequence. For low level pkgadd log please check /var/sadm/install/logs/Sun_ONE_Application_Server_install.B<timestamp> file (timestamp is date and time of your installation attempt in mmddHHMM format).
Look for any errors in this file. Most likely thing that could have happened is that the installation of Java Help (SUNWjhrt) package failed because you didn't have existing package based J2SE installation on the system. If that's the case, workaround is to either preinstall package based J2SE installation or to selected option to install bundled J2SE that comes with application server. -
Installation problem on CS4 Master Collection
WHen I attempt to install CS4 master collection on Vista Ultimate X64
While the installer is "checking system profile" the next window shows "Loading Setup"
I then get a System Check error page. The window label is "Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection Installer - Alerts"
In the box it says, System Check.
Critical Errors were found in setup for Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection.
Session has dependencies that cannot be satisfied.
please see the Setup log file for details. click Quit to exit Setup."
Then there is a Quit button, that is the only option.
Any ideas which services need to be enabled to be able to install creative suite?I do have service pack 1 for vista ultimate x64.

Installation problem on windows 2000
Hi,
Please help!
I've been tring to install oracle on windows 2000 machine unsuccessfully. the setup program aborted without error message. I've tried many versions of oracle database, 8.1.7 all editions, 8.1.6ee, 9iAS. the only message error I got when 9iAS failed to install (iSetup.exe). the problem seems to be with the java runtime environment. the jre 1.1.7 came with 9iAS would not run properly. I've tried to install java2 and jdk1.1.8 from javasoft, still no luck.
Any idea?
Thanks,

nullHi,
The problem of installing Oracle Product on P4 computers comes from the symcjit.dll (Java Jusit in time compiler) which doesn't recognize the P4.
I installed Oracle products on my P4 just by copying the CD's on a harddisk and manually replacing the dll (which is Version 3...) by a one I found to be Version 4.0.0.7.
It is maybe not the best solution as it can result some instability (I don't know yet) but at least I didn't bought a brand new computer for nothing.
The question is to know when Oracle will deliver some patches to allow a normal installation on P4s.
Let me know if you want me to send you the dll.

Installation Problem on Pentium4 with ORACLE 8.1.7 Client
I tried to Install the ORACLE Client 8.1.7/8.1.6 on Pentium4 with NT platform. On inserting the CD it gave the first prompt and after Clicking the "INSTALL/DE-INSTALL PRODUCTS", system stops. Checking in the TaskManager helps us to know that 'setup.exe' and 'java.exe' were started for a fraction of the second and then stopped.
Tried to explore the issue and it seems that the JAVA version which ORACLE is using for the INSTALLATION of 8.1.7 is NonCompatible with the P4[NT Platform].
However, 8.0.5/8.0.6 Client version were successfully Installed on the same configuration.
Can Anyone help me out in Installing 8.1.6 on P4[NT base].
Thanks in advanceIs the machine you're trying to install on the
machine your display is running on?
If not, doing a
'xhost + name_of_machine_you_are_installing_on'
on the machine your display is running on should do the
trick.
Hope that helps.
