POA Monitor

GroupWise 8.02 on Netware 6.5 sp8
I can load the MTA monitor by pointing my browser to 1.2.3.4:7180, but
if I try to look at the POA at 1.2.3.4:7181 I get asked for a username
and password.
Where can I set/change/disable the password for this monitor?

Didn't scroll down, and didn't see the box. :(
Thank you very much for telling me where to find it.

  • POA won't load after Server Crash - 8209 file not found err

Groupwise server crashed recently (apparently from bad RAID controller, which has been replaced). Server is back up an running now (SLES 10 sp3 VM running under XEN, GW 2012 sp1). Have performed a rebuild on Primary Domain and also on single Post Office. MTA loads OK, as does GWIA but POA fails to come up, giving "Path Not Found - 8209 error" message. Path to WPhost.db is correct both in C1 and in the startup file. When loading POA with --show option, I see the aforementioned error and then when I clear that I see on the screen (for a brief moment):
"Rebuilding Guardian Database because of C0221... please stand by"
Then it terminates and screen disappears.
I know that restoring from backup is one option, but that cannot be done until Monday at the earliest and that, of course, is dependent on having good backups. Therefore, I was wondering if there is a way to fix this problem to get the system back up quicker. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
    Don
P.S. There is only 1 Primary domain and 1 PO in this small GW system and yes, I know, one should have at least 1 secondary domain.

    Thanks for the suggestion, Danita.
OK, I backed up all copies of ngwguard.* from the PO directory. Then, I deleted ngwguard.db and copied the ngwguard.fbk (same exact file size as the deleted ngwguard.db) from ofmsg/guardbak folder to the PO directory as ngwguard.db. Now, I did notice that there was no ngwguard.fbk in the PO directory but instead a ngwguard.dba file, which I left as is. I then started the POA - ./gwpoa --show @po.poa & and now it no longer gives me "Path Not Found" error, but instead it displays:
"opened a file that was not a flaim file C03F"
I click OK on this warning and then POA monitor screen displays for 2 seconds "rebuilding ngwguard.db ..." before it bails and terminates.
So, is it looking more and more like a ngwguard.db problem as opposed to wphost.db? And, I am of course curious why using that backup of ngwguard would not work. In any event, today I will be trying to get backups of wpdomain.db and wphost.db off of tape and perhaps I should restore ngwguard.db as well - this is dependent, of course, on having a good backup that is restorable. If that is not the case, is there an option to rebuild the ngwguard.db file? Thanks.

Quite possibly. You do need both a wphost.db and an ngwguard.db file for the
POA to properly load. There should be two relatively "new" copies in the
    system:
ngwguard.fbk in the same folder as the PO, and then the ngwguard.fbk in the
    ofmsg/guardbak folder.
Try copying one of these as ngwguard.db in the PO folder, and if that doesn't
work, you will need to go to "backup" to restore.

Check your GMS logs. There's most likely a corrupt user throwing errors
over errors. Fix that (possibly by a full reset), and the issue with the
    soad threads should go away.

  • POA Status screen in Monitor

GW8 patched--On the POA status screen in Monitor, can anyone tell me what
"Unsuccessful Document Conversion" refers to in the Statistics section?
There is a count of 111 in there right now on our stats... (almost 15000
for Successful Documents Conversion). I assume it has something to do with
the DMS docs of which we have thousands, but what conversions are
unsuccessful -- what would I look for in the logs or what user complaints
would result? I am getting random odd user complaints lately. Thanks in

Thanks Massimo--after posting I saw some documentation about pdf docs and
conversion--guess those 111 attachments would not show up in search results
    then either.

This has nothing to do with DMS. Unsuccesful conversions occur when the
indexer attempts to index attachments to mails, but fails to. Nothing to

  • POA HTTP Monitor not loading after upgrade

I'm working on a migration/upgrade from gw8 to gw2014, all of the agents show started in the admin console but the http monitor screen will not load. I initially had a bad path to a certificate and have removed the certificate and it's path, turned off ssl and restarted the POA.
I'm still getting this though, when I try to access the POA (non ssl)
    GroupWise 2014 POA - PONAME
Status | Configuration | Environment | Log Files | Scheduled Events | MTP Status | Help
Web Console Access has been disabled due to error in loading SSL Certificate: [8209]
    Any assistance is appreciated.
    Dan

    Hi Laura,
Yes I have checked the poa startup file and it looks fine. It was a fresh install of GW2014 so there is only one poa file and it's located in the post office directory as well. Interestingly, it's the monitor screen of the domain that shows this wrong information when I click on 'Links' and then the PO link listed there. When I look at monitor in the PO, any of the path data in there shows correct. So it makes me believe the problem is on info stored in the domain - but maybe I'm wrong. Also, mail goes out just fine, but it fails coming in because the domain drops it in the old location and the post office tries to pick it up in the new location.

  • Can't Get Monitor to Work

Recently upgraded to 2012 from 8. Cannot get Monitor to work. I can browse to the 8200 port and get a blank webpage. The individual web pages for the POA, GWIA, MTA, Webaccess and DVA all work. This is on SLES 11.1. Maybe it is not supposed to work. If that is the case the Admin Documentation is not clear, since it says somethings only work with a Windows install and implies that other components will still work with SLES. [I did initially have a problem with the DVA monitor where the IP address did not get written to the config file, so something along the same lines may have gone wrong on install.] Thanks.

  • GW Monitor and multiple post office agents on one Netware 6.5Server

    HI,
I've not been successful getting GW Monitor (7 sp3) to recognize a PO as "known". Regardless of the setting I put in monitor.xml for the port assignment (1677), the thing reverts to port "0". This server is running a MTA only post office agent and a client post office agent. These may be related. Interestingly, the MTA IP configurations are:
    MTA only post office agent:
Inbound - 165.91.107.28:7100 (My Note on this - this is from agmail MTA to agents POA which is IP ...28 and listens on 7100)
Outbound - 165.91.106.93:7101 (My Note on this - this is agents POA to agmail MTA which is ip ...93 and listens on 7101)
    Client only post office agent:
Inbound - 165.91.107.28:7102 (My Note on this - this is from agents POA/MTA to agents POA only which is IP ...28 and listens on 7102)
Outbound - 165.91.106.93:7101 (My Note on this - this is agents POA only to agmail MTA which is ip ...93 and listens on 7101)
Maybe I should make the outbound for the client only post office agent to be:
    Outbound - 165.91.107.28:7100
In any event, we need GW Monitor to report on the status of the POA at 1677 on the Agents server. Any ideas?
    Thanks Mike

    Mike Gerst wrote:

Well, first of all the Monitor should be looking for 7101 for the MTA, 7100
for the first POA and 7102 for the second POA if indeed this is how you have
it set up. Are you sure you purposefully change the POA to listen on 7100
and put the MTA on 7101? That is confusing :) - most sites have the MTA at
the default of 7100, and the first POA at 7101, so it just looks weird to me
    - but it's perfectly "okay" to change them if you want to - but just
    confusing for long-time GW admins/consultants.

I've got the Monitor working fine with GWHA on the local SLES server, but it will not work for other GroupWise servers.

    - created a ha user and configured grpwise-ma
    - GWHA configured with xinetd
    - agents will auto-reload after bringing down :)

    - I do see entries in the /var/log/xinetd.log

Have you checked your firewall log to make sure you can accept incoming connections on port 8400? GWHA is essentially a web server that waits for commands from the monitor server.
You can test it: go to your monitor server and do:
    'telnet <target server IP> 8400'
and see if you get a connection. It should ask you for a username.
Since default installs of SLES with the firewall enabled do not allow high ports, 8400 is probably blocked.
    Check /var/log/firewall for dropped connections:
    'cat /var/log/firewall | grep 8400'

  • POA performance issues under windows 2008 R2

Hello - we are running GW 8.02 hp3 and recently moved our main post office (~600 users) from Netware to Windows 2008 R2 (running under Vsphere 4.1).
We have started seeing intermittent slow performance issues esp. when moving a message from one folder to another, or sending a broadcast email.
It doesn't appear to be a hardware resource issue: disk queues don't exceed 1, with low latency (7-15ms) and we're not cpu or memory bound (that I can see).
Here are our current config settings:
    Message Worker Threads: 15
    Maximum GWCheck Worker Threads: 8
    C/S Handler Threads: 30
    Max Physical: 2048
    Max App Connections: 4084
    Soap Threads: 20
We don't see any serious errors in the logs when performance becomes slow. Could this just be a tuning issue?

Windows is the lowest performing host for GroupWise, so that is a part
    of what you are hitting.
How are you monitoring memory usage? I've found that the vCenter tools
aren't a good indicator of that, where as the Windows tools are better
in that respect. The biggy is that you don't want much paging to disk.
How much do you have assigned to this VM?, how many cores? And are
these ESX box(es) over committed on those two?
Those settings on their own don't really mean a whole lot. What we need
to see is what is actually being used, and if you are running out of
them, then upping those specific numbers can help. The best way is to
watch the POA web interface for the relevant settings.

  • Intermittant "Unknown Status" for POA and MTA

    Hello,
I'm getting intermittent "Unknown Status" in my GroupWise monitor for both my MTA and POA for a certain location. When I check the console for these two agents, they look just fine...
The box running GroupWise monitor is on the same physical location as the MTA and POA that is having the issue.
All of my other MTA and POA's at our primary remote location are just fine.
I've already verified that the SNMP strings are correct - they are identical to the working MTAs and POAs...
If there isn't a way to repair this issue, could someone please come up with a way from preventing "Unknown Status" messages from making it to my inbox? I've already tweaked the "Minimum Threshold level for notiifcation" to critical, yet it continues to "SPAM" me with "Unknown Status" messages...
If there isn't a way to "tune it out" of monitor, then I guess I'll just go ahead and make a rule in my GroupWise client to "move to trash" any "unknown status" messages... At least that will allow me to see any notifications of real problems...
    Thanks! :)

  • Monitor working (apparently), not reporting

Please excuse the pitiful treatment of the English language in my last
post. In my defence, I was interrupted several times during its composition
and it was more than an hour between starting it and finishing it. Here it
is again in a little more refined form.
Installation of Monitor went without incident and both the Monitor
Agent Server Console (on Windows) and the Monitor Agent Web console )on
NetWare) show "normal"status on all monitored agents (POA, MTA, GWIA and
Webacc). Moreover, from the Monitor Agent Server Console I can get an
    Environment report (nearly instantaneously).
However, when I try to generate any other report from the Monitor Agent
Server Console as per docs (p. 1016 in the GroupWise 7 Administration Guide
dated June 15, 2006), nothing happens. Nothing at all.
To run a User Traffic report I use appropriate values in the date and time
fields, click "Run" and then . . . nothing. I have tried both the
three-character ID ('it8') and the email name ('richarw') in the User ID
field and the result was the same. Ditto if I leave the User ID field blank
to get all users. Novell's KB shows nothing on this problem.
Can someone tell me where to start looking for a mis-configuration?

Good question. Upon reading the docs more thoroughly, I discovered that
this was required, but not enabled by default, so I enabled it. I was able
to get a test Message Traffic report but not a User Traffic report. This
morning the Monitor Agent Console running on Windows still wouldn't give me
a UT report, but the Monitor Agent Web Console did.
I discovered that the User ID is the user's email name ('richarw' in my
case) rather than the three-character ID.
For the time being I think this will work.
    Thanks again.

  • Domain directory path for Monitor Agent on Linux?

If I'm installing Monitor (agent) on an OES2 Linux server, I am prompted for the path to a domain directory
But this server is not going to have any domains on it.
the docs are poor at best on this section (other than to follow the prompts)
I am assuming (since there's a "file browser" button) that if there's no domain on this server, that I cannot use a UNC path and must use a mount point to a server that has a domain?
And if the other server is on NSS, I will need ncpmount?

Oh - but you don't want to use your GWIA for alerts. Monitor has its own
SMTP mailer, so unless you HAVE to go through a relay host, monitor can
alert you regardless of whether the system is down. I send my alerts to the
    smtp address of my phone.

    Moving GroupWise to Linux?
    Moving GroupWise
Even better! Yes, we can send to the relay host and let it go wherever.
I was just thinking that let's say a regional POA/MTA is having problems, that the delivery address for the notification should be an " internal" GW account.
Obviously though, if the GWIA is having an issue we'd not know about it because it would try to deliver to the internal GW address and that has to go through the GWIA.
Although with diff. groups I will see if I can put the GWIA/MTA into a special group that gets notified to like the blackberry or something (like a text message).

  • Problem Monitoring on TV using the Canvas

I'm learning the process for monitoring a clip/sequence from the timeline/viewer/canvas on a CRT TV.
I captured from tape and was able to view on TV -- using either the Viewer or the Canvas. Then somewhere along the way -- probably when I did some color correction -- I was no longer able to get the clip/sequence to play on the TV using the Canvas; I was still able to do so via the Viewer.
I then noticed that a re-render was needed; I did so but still am only able to monitor through the Viewer, and not the Canvas.
Any tips for understanding what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks.

I'm in the process of trashing my preferences using the how-to from http://www.apple.com/support/finalcutexpress/ which takes me to "Final Cut Express 2: How to Delete the Preference Files" -- http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93690.
In this older doc, Step 9 says to, "Drag the file named "Final Cut Express POA Cache" to the Trash."
I'm running v3.5 and I don't have a file named "Final Cut Express POA Cache": I do have "Final Cut Express Prof Cache.fcpch.
Would you please guide me this last step so I don't create a different problem?

  • When Monitor lies to you?

I was a bit shocked when I got a call this morning that a POA was down (it's on OES2 SP1 Linux)
Sure enough, the rcgrpwise status showed it was unused.
But Monitor showed everything was happy and green and up and running, when it was not.
I don't think I'm using SNMP but rather HTTP for monitoring the agents.

I have seen that also. Unfortunately, if you're on 64-bit, SNMP isn't even
    an option. Terrible, terrible situation.
