Pocket dialing 911

I recently pocket dialed 911 while the phone was locked and in my pocket. I was walking down my driveway when I realized their was an active call and I had to unlock the phone to disengage the call to 911. This past weekend I was speaking to a police officer and he said they get approximately three calls per shift from Blackberry phones that have pocket dialed 911. This has to be a serious flaw in either the software or the hardware but I cannot get an answer from my network provider.

I've never had a 911 pocket dial in two years with my Z10 or Z30.
Of course, I don't keep it in my pocket either

Roller ball sensitivity/ phone dials 911

Has anyone experienced this? I use a BB Pearl, keep it locked with pw, & typically carry it in my pocket.
Yesterday, thru body movement, the roller ball shifted to emergency call & dialed 911!! I have now adjusted the vertical sensitivity of the roller ball. Are there any other thoughts as to preventing this from re-occurring (short of using a case....case use is inconvenient for me)? Thx for any input. MJ

Unfortunately there are not too much alternatives.
Setup your device trackball sensitivity.
Or (better way) consider to take a pouch or holster for the device.
There is a big variety of different cases for the devices and I think you can get a most convenient for you.

You cannot turn off the Home Button. Use a passcode and you won't have that problem.

Weird pocket dialing AND security code does not keep phone from waking to web pages, iTunes, etc.

I got an iPhone on my Verizon contract this past November. It appears to be a lemon. Not only does it pocket dial repeatedly and often but it wakes to a variety of apps with no apparent logic. I am getting really weary of the mess involved...and I am not even getting into upside down pix when emailed.
I put on a security key and that has no impact whatsoever.
Anyone have any ideas? I am using the latest iOS.

Z10 Email Generated Link Dials 911

I've received two emails recently with DHL package tracking information with dangerous links. DHL tracking numbers are 10 digits, just like a phone number. The Z10 email application automatically assumes that the 10-digit number is a phone number and converts that text to a phone link.
I assume the link is a hyperlink to the tracking website to see the package location, so I click it.
Tracking number example: 9112345040
Click the Z10 generated link, dials (911) 234-5040
There are no area codes with 911 - that should never become an automatic hyperlink.

Oh, I can add a few lost features from the Bold:
No UMA internet calling
No list of forthcoming diary entries in the calendar agenda view
Enter key sends a text or bbm, instead of generating a new line of text (how daft is that?)
and of course the select text, cut and paste is horrible.

Problem with Pocket Dialing aka Butt Dial ?

Hello,
    My Wife and I both have the iPhone5 and for some reason she is always Pocket Dialing, after she is done with a call she puts the phone to sleep
( presses the on/off switch on top of the phone ), and then puts it in her back pocket. for some reason she make calls anyway.
     I have compared her setting with mine and they seem to be the same.
    I was wondering is anyone had any suggestion, or has had a simular problem ?

If you passcode lock the phone, then when you put it to sleep, makes it 10x harder to butt dial. I have never had an issue with that as long as i put it to sleep , since i have a passcode that has to be entered.

How do I trace a dialed 911 phone call to the originating phone?

My company has just deployed a CME at a new location and we had one user call 911. I know this is a regular occurance but my manager has asked me to find out which phone it came from? I can see from the logs what time it happened but how do I trace back to the user who made the call? Any useful commands would be appreciated as I am new to call manager.

errant 911 calls can become annoying and expensive once the police decide to charge you for dispatches. The only real way to prevent this is to have the user stay on the line and tell the operator that it was a mistake. Very few places require a dispatch in that situation but if the users are embarrassed or scared then simply hang-up on the 911 operator then they usually callback or dispatch or both.
Here is a dirty way to keep track of this problem and it will only cost you a phone.
Set up a Line on a phone and call it extension 911, then another for extension 9911.
Set RNA to 2 seconds or 3 seconds then forward to 8.911
Set 8.911 (or a variation that does not step on your dial plan) to strip the 8. and call 911
Now when someone calls 911 or 9911 it will be recorded on your emergency phones Missed Call log.
Now comes the real dirty part. Call the user back and ask if they are ok. Then explain to them, innocently, that it costs a lot of money when you hang-up on the 911 Operator. Then tell them you are glad they are ok and not in danger and that lots of people make this error (empathy). I guarantee you that this person will not make the same mistake again once they know they can be tracked. Internal shame is stronger than external embarrassment.
Now go look at the old Berbee InformaCast product or the IPCelerate product or any host of other E911 features that will send an immediate email when 911 is called, complete with Caller Info and time.

BB Q5 Lock screen

My phone was pocket dialing 911. Therefore I removed the screen swipe and can only unlock with the top button. However if I lock the screen by pushing the top button, I can unlock the screen by pushing the keyboard w or 0 (zero) the screen unlock automatically, if I double hit e, r, s, d, f, z, x, c, this also unlocks the screen.
can you please advise how this is fixed?, I keep my phone in my pocket and it is still being unlocked if on of the above keys are pressed.

I am also having same issue with my wife's Q5. Left and right side touch screen isn't responding, anything in middle works fine. Tried device wipe and OS upgrade to 10.2.1.3442 but no fix. Doing hard battery reset (pressing both volume keys at same time) fixed the right side touch screen but my left side touch screen is still not responding. It is kinda important that it is where the answer phone is located and also back button.

What causes my fax to dial out 911 without my doing anything?

My HP Officejet Pro 8600 has dialed 911 twice in the past 6 months without me doing anything other than leaving it plugged into the phone line for faxes. What might be causing this? I did not even use the machine for faxes during that time and the police have knocked on my door stating they received a 911 call from my phone number which is only being used for this fax machine.

This is very unusual. Have you printed out a fax confirmation report to verify that the call was indeed made from the fax machine? Is it possible that a speed dial was setup and accidentially initiated?
You can reset the fax machine to factory defaults which will erase any stored information by touching Settings - Tools - Restore Factory Defaults

911 Dial Plan for Specific Users

Hi all, We have a Lync 2013 deployment here.
I am trying to achieve something that I am not sure is even possible with 911 calling.
Out SIP provider is telling us that we MUST send all calls outbound as a specified number (let's use 555-4040 in this example).
What I would like to achieve, is to configure an outbound translation ONLY when a user dials "911". All other calls will go outbound as the user's regular DID number.
Is this even possible with the Lync dial plans/translations?
If not, then it appears we must ALWAYS translate outbound calls as "555-4040" no matter what number the user dials.

Yes, you can do it. You have to create a new voice route for 911 calls only. When you create a route, there is an option to "Suppress caller ID". This is the place where you enter the caller ID that you want to have.
Another way to do it directly on your IP gateway. I have done it before on AudioCodes and on Dialogic gateways. You create a new manipulation rule and specify that if dialed number is 911, replace the caller's number.

How to test 911 dialing

I've installed my first CME and I want to make sure 911 emergency services will dial correctly. We're using analog line into an FXO and I just want to be sure that it works. What's the best way to do this?

Thanks for the tips here. I'm going to add some additional pointers I learned today in my attempted test.
Since I'm trying to test in a major city, it may be best to seek out the dispatch administrator. When I dialed 911 (which it successfully connected), I told the dispatcher, as suggested, this was not an emergency. I was promptly forwarded to a non-emergency police number before having the chance to verify the location information.
However, I was able to get the dispatch supervisor's phone number. He instructed me to send an email to their 911 helpdesk to schedule testing. It is important to note that they do testing during limited time frames (obviously). In the city I'm working in this week, Houston, they allow testing between 10AM to 3PM, Monday-Thursday.
I've sent an email to their helpdesk and awaiting a scheduled time.

911 Hang ups

I have my RP set up in CCM to allow 911 or 9911 but when people dial LD numbers 91XXXXXXX they hit the 1 twice and it calls 911 then they panic and hang up then the PD shows up and there is not legit call. Is there a way to work around this and keep 911 dialing

One solution is to uncheck the "Urgent Priority" from the 911 RP to force the interdigit timer, this however might not be desired because when someone really needs to dial 911 he/she will be forced to wait the intedigit timer. So, you have to see which option is more critical and go with it.

There used to be more flexibility for notifications. I called Verizon and they confirmed we lost some functionality. I used to have notifications sent to my wife, but now they only go to the primary account holder. This was changed in the past week. I used to get the phone number in data usage alerts (phone number ##### reached it's limit), but now it doesn't tell me who reached the limit. You have to login to the website to find out. Even more frustrating was the notification that said one of my lines dialed 911. It didn't tell me who, and I just pictured one of my family members in a terrible accident and the notification wouldn't tell me who it was. When I called Verizon and said I needed to know, they wanted to teach me how to find it on the website instead if helping me in my emergency. The bottom line is everyone needs to call Verizon to get this functionality back. I agree you have at least the option of notifying any/all account owners.

911 coming from main number instead of individual user DID

We are moving all of our numbers to a SIP provider and need to make sure that when someone dials 911 that it comes from the "main" number of the facility instead of the individual users phone number.
Is it possible to setup lync to operate this way, if so how is it achieved?

Yes it is possible. Just setup a route for 911 and use the "Suppress caller ID" option to replace the calling number with whatever number you choose.

Anyone figure out how to fix the dialer lag?

Nothing like dialing a number and having to wait 30 seconds to 5 minutes just to actually make the call. What if there's an emergency??? I have deleted the cache (pressing power and home at the same time), force stopped the dialer......nothing works more than a few hours. :-(

I have had this problem. It's even worse when you have to dial 911 and have to wait 1 minute for it to start dialing.
A hard reset worked for about a day. With no apps on the phone, it started lagging.
From the updates that the phone had:
.596 lagged a little for me
.602 did not lag and seemed to be the best
.605 lags all the time and seemed to break more stuff
I believe those are the right update numbers.
My solution is an upgrade soon because I still have 5.3gb of space free on the phone. So, caching would not be an issue I would think.
