  • Palm and Pocket PCs with bluetooth cards

Has anyone had any experience of using LabVIEW 7.1 PDA with Pocket PCs or Palms fitted with a bluetooth card?
Most Palms I've come across e.g. the Tungsten series are bluetooth enabled internally, so is it a case that LabVIEW can only see the internal BT device when the native BT vis in LabVIEW are being used to create apps?
Similarly, I've used the same BT VIs for Pocket PC 2003 devices with BT hardware already inside (specifically Ipaq H2210,which ran faultlessly) but I am unsure whether a Pocket PC running 2003 with say a CF card can be utilised using those same BT comms VIs (same goes for a Palm with OS5 and a Bluetooth SD card)?
    Cheers

    Hello Bill,
I've used the tdk go blue usb adapter hooked up to a PC and have been able to communicate bi-directionally with it using an Ipaq 2210 pocket pc. I'm waiting for the bluetooth card for my Palm 515 so I can replicate this functionality.
The TDK uses the Cambridge Radio chipset which is also used by other dongles, such as the D-Link DBT-120 and these work with the XP service pack 1 generic bleutooth drivers (Q328183 I think), also SP2 and hence LabVIEW. If you are intending to use the TDK, you don't need to load up the suite as long as you have these drivers. (The TDK blu2i development kit incidentally has these drivers on the CD, but not sure if the dongle alone comes with these).
If you do have the driv
ers its just a case of using the high level Vis for both PDA and PC to communicate with each other as client and server.
If the PDA is the client you would set up this using the Open Connection VI and serial service UUID eg:
    00001101-0000-1000-8000-00805f9b34fb
For the PC you'd make this the server and use the create listener VI with the above UUID then carry out a Wait on Listener function, and as soon as the other device comes into range you should be in business.
You can also use standard serial comms if you have a virtual port set up for the dongle, but timing can then become an issue. The native bluetooth VIs in LabVIEW take care of all that, and you don't need to set up a serial port in "My Bluetooth Places", as you effectively use the UUID which creates the serial port service you require.
Hope this helps but please drop a line if you have any more questions.
    Cheers

  • Directory Structure / Shortcut string... Dell Axim (Pocket PC 2002)

    Hi all,
I've been experimenting with Jeode on the Dell Axim- I'm particularly interested in running an application from the "Built-In Storage" folder, which persists even with main battery, and the backup battery removed.
If I run the application from a folder located in the "My Device" root as follows:
    /myApp/mpApp.jar
    /myApp/mpAppLauncher.lnk
with the content of the shortcut set to:
    18#"\windows\evm.exe" -Djeode.evm.console.local.keep=TRUE -cp /myApp/myApp.jar myPackage.MyClass
    - it executes perfectly.
However, if I wish to locate the application and data in the "Built-In Storage" folder, I run into problems, apparently because of the character space in the folder name, which, even when replaced with a "%20"
    18#"\windows\evm.exe" -Djeode.evm.console.local.keep=TRUE -cp /Built-In%20Storage/myApp/myApp.jar myPackage.MyClass
I get a ClassNotFoundError.. has anyone got any advice?
    thanks,
    Fergus.

Do you know how to copy files from your pocket pc to the desktop
    using Windows Filesystem.
I've tried to read a file like this
    FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("\\PCNAME\SHARED_FOLDER\FILE.EXT");
But If the PCNAME is the PC that has the CRADLE, I always get a System MEssage
telling me as if i was trying to access that shared folder on the pocket pc...
so i guess i can only do that over the network but on other pcs.
Is there a way to copy files to the PC with ActiveSync without having to write
Client/Server Apps on both PCs and Pocket PCs? or is there a place where activesync
protocol is explained, since i believe activesync is a client/server app on both ends
that we could reuse to copy files from and to the Pocket PC and PC

  • Is the PCMCIA-232/4 compatable with Pocket PC/PDA?

I am interested in integrating a pocket pc or pda (no moving parts) with the pcmcia-232/4 for some pseudo-realtime applications (anything rs-232 is pseudo realtime IMHO). The Pocket PC will collect/manage data from the rs-232 and issue commands to the rs-232 ports. I would prefer to use winCE as my OS (not my choice but I did not make the requirement)and a simple high level language to control the ops (again, high level languages are nearly always pseudo-realtime IMHO).
What would NI recommend as far as obtaining compatability of the pocket pc/pda, pcmcia-232/4, and win CE?
Also, does NI have any "high level" language support for managing data and issuing commands?
    Thanks,
    KTM

LabVIEW PDA (http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=12219〈=US) is the recommended high level language support for managing data and issuing commands. It was developed for both Palm OS and Pocket PCs. Currently there is not a pcmcia-232/4 driver written for either the pocket pc or palm os. If you could find a PCMCIA serial card with driver (dll) written for the pocket pc, it could be interfaced through a call library function node.

  • Test Pocket PC or Handheld ( windows mobile 5.0) application

Is there any tools that can be used to automate the testing of Pocket PCs or Handheld ( windows mobile 5.0) application?
Message was edited by: DHIMANT AMIN

    Dhimant Amin,
I have not done any Pocket PC testing so I am not sure how good any of the tools out there are but a few years back I did some WAP testing and the key is to have an emulator that something can drive. As I was testing WAP I was able to use e-Tester with the proxy on to gather the http requests, but depending on what your application under test does this may not be an option.
If that is the case there are a number of test suites out their for PocketPC and other devices. From what I have seen these fall into two categories: a device emulation like what i used, and some tools that actually drive the physical device connected to the machine via Bluetooth or USB. I can see good and bad points of both.I think I would use an emulator or at least stick with a particular device early on in the testing phase to focus on testing the core functionality you are developing. Then the physical device tester may be useful for compatibility testing if the product allows the same script to be played back for different devices.

  • Olite 9i on pocket PC 2003 emulator

Does anybody knoes how to install olite 9i on the pocket pc 2003 emulator, so i can debug my program in VB.net 2003. ?
    Thanks.

    3.Installing on a Pocket PC
    - Pocket PCs normally come with a "MIDlet Manager". Please check if you have a "MIDlet Manager" installed under 'Programs' on your Pocket PC. If you don't, you will need to dowload it and install it before copying the JAR files to your device. A MIDlet Manager is what enables Java programs on Pocket PCs. Click on the link below to download the zipped MIDlet Manager: http://www.guidedways.com/mobile/JMM.CAB.zip
    - Installation Procedure: Simply unzip the above file, copy the CAB file to your Pocket PC and tap it from there. This will install the MIDlet Manager on your device.
    - Reset your device
    - Now copy the JAR files from your PC to your Pocket PC and tap the files from there. This should start the installation procedure. If it doesn't, then your mobile unfortunately does not support Prayer Times.

  • Create Flash Content for Pocket PC "Windows Mobile 2003 SE" from Flash Professional 8

    Hi all,
I would like to create a standalone flash application on my
two pocket PCs (Dell Axim x50 and Qtek S110). These pocket PC
uses the "Windows Mobile 2003 SE" operating system.
At this time, I have installed the "Flash Player 7 for Pocket
PC" on my 2 pocketPCs. Apparently, I have not flash player
    application
that is able to load .swf files but only a plugin for Pocket
    IE. Do you confirm?
I have the license to use "Flash Professional 8". Could you
explain me the procedure to publish flash content for my Pocket PC?
Which Flash version I have to use?
Which Action Script I have to use?
Is it possible to test my application with Flash Pro 8?
Finally, I would like to develop a Flash application in
fullscreen mode and not embedded into Pocket IE. Is it possible to
    realize
    that with Flash Pro 8?
    Sincerely,
    Romain

    Hi Romain.
As at the time of this writing,
I suggest you have a look at Flash Assist by AntMobile
    (www.antmobile.com)
It will allow you to view Flash content at full screen.
It officially supports Flash 5 and 6, but I've used it with
    Flash 7 for the PPC.
Flash 7 for the PPC supports AS 2.0
Macromedia hasn't released a stand alone player /
distribution Kit, or CDK for Flash Player 7 for the PPC, and I am
    anxiously awaiting that as well.
However, the stand alone player for the Flash Player 6 for
    the PPC is available
You will want to change your publish settings to Flash 7,
    AS2.0
    Do some hunting around.

  • Can connect to router but can't access internet on some devices

    Hello everyone,
I'm fairly good with comptuers / networking but this issue has me baffled. Help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a linksys router (WRK54G) and have 2 desktops and 2 laptops connected to it wirelessly at the moment. I bought 3 smart phones (AT&T Tilts) and a new laptop recently. I don't use encryption but I do have MAC address filtering enabled.
The issue is that 1 of the smart phones can connect to the network and the internet, but the other 2 phones and the laptop can connect to the network but not the internet.
I did add their MAC addresses to the "allow" list ofcourse, which is why they're able to connect to the internet. DHCP is enabled, and these devices get an IP address. I can see them as connected when i log in to my router as well through one of my other computers (I see the MAC address and the IP assigned to those devices) so I know they're properly connected to the network. However, when i try to pull up a website (using either its ip or its domain name), the devices try to open up the page but eventually give me a "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost" on the pocket PCs, and a generic "page cannot be found" on the laptop. I don't see these requests in the outgoing log table of the router either... I'm supposed to see them as when i use one of my desktops, I can see which site was accessed by which IP.
So basically, the requests from 2 smart phones and 1 laptop aren't even getting to the router apparently. What could be wrong? These devices can access the internet on other routers elsewhere at my workplace or at wi-fi spots.. just not at home, which is a major inconvenience. Why would the router be stopping some devices from connecting to the internet and allowing others? I know it's not a setting in the devices as it can access the internet through other wi-fi spots elsewhere..
    Help will be truly appreciated.

Hi, I'm just getting up to speed on wireless but here's some info. Don't have a clue for your phones tho.
If you can connect to your network and talk to each other but can't connect to the internet, then it's an "Authorization" problem. I'ts not a Router "hardware" problem because your other equipment can connect to the internet (modem). It's not a Wireless card "hardware" problem on your laptop because you can connect to your network (router).
You say the Router sees the laptop/phones IP#'s but, do you see the IP#'s ON the computer/phones that can't get online? The Router sees them but do they see the Router?
The computers can talk to each other because your using the "Switched hub"(and wireless) part of the Router. I't doesnt do any translating, it just tells computer 1 that computer 2 want's to talk to it.
Is the Shared Key enabled on one and not the others?(Router menu)
If you can connect at work but not at home then again it's an Authorization problem. You have the right password, setup, etc, for work but not at home. "Hotspots" have no encryption so any one can connect. Do you have the home Router set up as WEP and and Work as WPA? Does your other laptop connect at work also? Do you have a mixed B,G,N band system at home. The Router has to be set at the band your using or have it set for mixed. If it's set for "G" only then any items that have B"or"N" won't be able to talk to it. If i go to a wireless motel thats next to a truck stop and a wireless Cafe, i can "SEE" a good half dozen "networks". I can even connect to a few of them, but, i can't get online because i don't have the password, etc..
Well one more kinda, sorta, possibility, did you lower the "Maximum number of DHCP Users" count to 4 (Router menu) and forget to raise it to 8 or what ever you have now? If you only had 3 computers on, then the Router would only hand out one more IP# so the other phones and laptop wouldn't get any more. It's defaulted to like, 20+ or so, so probably unlikely.
The First phone seems to be the magic bullet. My only suggestion would be to double check the settings and compare everything. You have got to be close.
I hope this get's you nearer,,

  • Error in pda load image file performance in PDA

    hello
i am using Windows CE with labview mobile module 8.6 in evaluation version. When trying to use "pda load imege file.vi" i get an error code 1, regardless of loading a .bmp, .gif or .jpg, of only 80kb (no diference in the color depth i use). I have tryed the same program in the windows mobile 5 emulator with the same error code. When i use "pda load bmp.vi" to load a .bmp, everything is OK. Some hints about this error?
some hints about missing dll are provided here
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=185995&query.id=129565#M185995 -> can that be my problem? but then, why same error in the emulator?
Aditionally, if .gif or .jpg have to be "flatened" to pixmap for opeation inside my VI , is there any difference (in terms of speed and memory allocation) in loading .gif .jpg or .bmp? i have to operate with the raw pixmap data in "real time", and flatened .bmp images (320x220) do not load and update fast enough... any advice for that?

    Michiel
    acording to the info provided
    LabVIEW 8.6 Mobile Module
    The
LabVIEW 8.6 Mobile Module includes the necessary Microsoft tools. The
Mobile Module installs ARM Pocket PC and Windows Mobile targets. You
only need to download and install the following additional Microsoft
tools (linked below) if you need x86 emulator targets:
    Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0
Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ SP 4 or later
SDK for Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PCs
Note: If you are upgrading from version 8.0 or later of the PDA Module, you probably already have the additional tools.
    Since
i have  an ARM pocket PC, i understand from the above that  no extra
software is needed. Anyhow, i will try to install the recomended tools.
About the VI, well, basically not even the library examples work in my
pocket PC, so, you may try those to see if they work on your devices. I
am afraid that the pocket PC i got (it is actually a PNA and not a PDA)
has a reduced version of WINDOWS CE 5.0 installed and that can be the
    reason for the error...

  • Timing Java Apps on Portable Devices and Desktops

I am trying find an efficient way to time my Java applications running on Linux on portable devices like Pocket PCs and other hand held computers. I also need to time the running of applications on desktop and laptop computers and compare the two. I am conducting research to find out if Java runs slower on smaller processors in comparison to larger ones. I am looking for either research or a program that can help me to accomplish this. I have looked at JProbe but I would prefer an option that doesn't involve buying software. Are there any basic programing languages that offer this option? Does the JVM allow timing test to be conducted by itself? Is Java a good language to make a timing program with or should I look elsewhere. If you have any information please let me know.

Mayank, thank you for your kind assistance.
    Follow-up questions:
1 - Regarding Adobe LMS... when I go to this page
    Adobe - LMS integration solutions
and click on the 'learn more about LMS' link... it takes me to an Adobe page that tells me the page no longer exist... so may I ask you
    -  if LMS will collect students responses to a Captivate training exercise?
    -  and further allow our system to access and evaluate their responses?
    -  And, do they charge per student or what?
2 - You said "You can run Captivate without Internet . It is just you have to connect to the internet during the installation to sign in with your Adobe ID."
Does this mean a student would have to connect to the internet and install Captivate and get an Adobe ID?
I was trying to ask here if there were no internet connectivity... or limited connectivity... could a Captivate Training Exercise be placed on a PC or Tablet or Smartphone... and run at will by the student like it was an actual computer program... all without the student having to own Captivate.
    thanks again for the help.

  • File associations in Flash PPC

Attempting to associate a .swf file to Flash but
    unsuccessful.
I installed Flash Player 7.0 for Pocket PC on my IPAQ 3955. I
then placed the .swf file into my storage card. It is a small flash
app that was created for Pocket PCs.
Anyways, I get the error Header XXXXX.swf "There is no
application associated with "xxxxxxxx". Run the application first,
then open this file from within the application.
My question is where do I find the file to open the
application or is there something else I can do to associate the
    file to Flash.

Or else, you could try this:
    http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=17866
I am not the developer of this tool and don't get royalties
    from it, but
this question comes so often, that I think this might be the
    easiest way for
people to play SWFs on their device.
That is actually an idea for Adobe.
Create a player that also work as a standalone application
    for SWFs. This
    might make it more popular.

  • Functionality out of the box

We are installing Portal 9ias and the HR & Finance applications from 11i.
Then if we were to install the base Portal Application with no modifications. What would be the functionality of the portal?

    Hi Jonathan,
To add to what Laziz has told you...
    1. Yes, Mobile Time and Travel is currently available only for laptops.
    2. SAP Mobile offers 3 versions of Mobile Sales. Here they are in ascending order of functionality offered:
    a) <u>xMSA Online.</u> This application is based on Mobile Web dynpro and will run on Blackberries, Windows-based Pocket PCs and a couple Nokia Communicator models. It requires a connection, as it has no local data store and runs in a browser. Functionality is as follows:
    - Accounts (business partners): View, Update, Create and Favorites
    - Activity/tasks: View, Update, Create
    - Opportunities: View, Update, Create (no line items - associated products)
    - Sales Order and Contract: View only
    - Analytics reporting: View only
    b) <u>xMSA for handhelds</u>. Runs on Windows-based devices (no BB support) and Mobile Infrastructure. xMSA HH is an offline app with an local database. It offers the same functionality as xMSA Online, plus...
    - Sales Orders: View, Update, Create
    - Service Orders and Complaints: Create
    - Follow up documents.
    - Opportunities still do not have line items and there are no Contract views.
    - Factsheets and Survey management.
    c) MSA for Laptop. A .NET-based application with full functionality that includes line items for opportunities, pricing and much more. It pretty much enables most of the CRM sales functionalities on laptops with a local database.
I hope that answers your questions. Let me know if you have any more.
    Thanks,
    Ted

  • Create installer for PDA 8.2

    Hi Everyone,
I've developed a PDA 8.2 application that I need to distribute world wide to
field technicians for them to install on to PDA's purchased at their locations.
When building a PDA application, the only file that is created is an exe file which
will not run on a PDA without the Labview support files installed. Is there a
way to create a full installer that will install all files required to run a
PDA application including all of the Labview application files? This
    functionality exists for PC applications.
    Thanks,
    John.

    John:
The LabVIEW PDA Module only create executables, it cannot create installers. PDA executables and support files are simply files to be transferred to the PDA and do not need to be registered with the OS, thus any installer that can transfer the file in the right directory structure should suffice. No installer applications have officially been tested with the PDA Module, however you may try out a free program called EzSetup. It is a free utility designed to create installation applications for the PocketPC. You may also want to take a look at this knowledgebase, which highlights how to develop and deploy application for Pocket PCs.
I hope this helps and please let me know if I can help further.
