Pod not recognised but charges

Hi
Odd one possibly. My Ipod is no longer recognised on my G4 in anyway, neither iTunes or on the desktop. I have tried plugging into both Firewire and USB but no joy.
However, it does charge. I don't think there is a problem with the ports since my girfriends pod is recognised on both USB and Firewire
I have tried re-booting the computer, reseting my pod, attached and not to the computer. Still not recognised by it does charge.
Any ideas what next?
Cheers

Hi
Yes my pod has been recognized unfailingly for a year with Disk mode enabled I think, and has always been ilnked to this iTunes.
I haven't tried another computer and I think it's the do not disconnect display when connected.
I haven't tried connecting with iTunes closed, then opening once attached but I figured re-booting with attached might be similar.
Cheers

  • HD not recognised but still spinning

    Hey there,
I have a MacBook Pro mid 2010 that has now stopped recognising the hard drive, and also optical drive.
I'm using an external disk just now and when I use Disk Utility, neither is showing up.
The internal hard drive is constantly spinning and the optical drive takes in discs and spins but wont eject.
Also, there is a firmware update available (2.5) but everytime I download, install then restart, it doesn't register.
The App Store says the update is still available.
    Help! ;o
    Cheers

    Hmmm, very odd!
This has been an ongoing problem for the past few weeks and was resigned to using an exernal drive until I get a new MacBook.
But, this morning when I booted up, the internal drive was on the desktop and optical drive was recognised! :s
I changed the startup disk and managed to boot to OSX and also done the firmware update.
But now both the internal & optical drives and not recognised again!!!
Could it be the two cables are faulty or a logic board issue?

  • My password is not recognised but I did not change it

    Hello,
got new hard drive. When switch on first time it did request my password, was entered successfully.
After switched off and later on again, it did not ask for password at all. Then as I want to make some changes it asks for my password but when i type it it shakes but my password is correct.
Any idea what happened then and since I cannot even change my password (it does not recognise the "old"one)...what's next?
Am just afraid when I will switch off and if it ask again for password and since it does not recognise it that I wont be able to login in at some point.
    Thank you
    C.

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
Another reason why your password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. At the login screen, you can cycle through the available layouts by pressing the key combination command-space or command-option-space. See this support article.
You must back up all data before continuing, unless you've already done so. If you need to back up but can't log in, ask for instructions.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • I pod not recognised when used with usb cable

I have recentley bought a new computer, which has no firewire port ( which i had used to connect my ipod classic 40gbto my old computer without any issues. However I have purchased a usb connection cable to use with the new computer and neither windows or I tunes will recognise that i connect my ipod. I simply get a message saying usb device malfunctioned, windows does not recognise it. Although the ipod will still connect to my old computer with the firewirecable it will not connect with the usb either, any help would be greatly recieved as I have tried resetting and disk mode to no avail.

I have to say I have the same exact problem. It may sometimes be solved by putting the ipod into Disk mode before plugging it or by changing the ipod drive letter. In my case nothing have worked though, so if anyone has other ideas please tell me.

  • Internal hard drive not recognised, but has a lot of data i need on it!HELP

    hi all
i'm on mac pro, quad core, leopard 10.5.2.
basically for some reason my hard drive was working fine, then one day last week i turned my mac back on and the hard drive will not initialize anymore.
i've gone into disk utility to try and repair disk. but it's listed there, not the name i gave it but 'disk1s1'.
i then go to verify disk and it comes up with this error.
    *Verifying volume “disk1s1”*
    * /dev/disk1s1*
*Invalid BS_jmpBoot in boot block: fa31c0*
*Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.*
so i started looking for data recovery software, i found one called data rescue and its found alot of data on it, some i dont need (like stuff i deleted a long time ago), but i have 3 logic project folders full of projects i need to get finished for releasing!
but the thing with data rescue is... it is renaming all the fle aiff001, aiff002 etc etc, and for logic files this is no good as you need the files named as they were other wise it won't recognise the files and all the individual parts won't load up!
so i need a way of either making the mac recognize my hard drive again so i can drag everything off it and reformat it, or use a data recovery software that does not rename the files?
    can anybody please HELP!
    cheers

SMART is largely snake oil in implementation and practice and it's entirely commonplace for a dead drive to report itself functional and vice versa. I've seen Seagates whose heads were audibly grinding against the platters claim they were functioning normally, and I've seen others that said they were failing go on to provide years of reliable service. SMART status is a ballpark guess at best.
yes I understand that but I wouldn't trust a drive with a non-verified SMART status. as you say, it might continue to function but chances are pretty high that it will soon fail altogether. that's already happened to the OP who should consider himself lucky he can get anything off the drive at all with Data rescue. professional data recovery is of course also an option but a very expensive one. at least when I tried to use a service like this once about 5 years ago they wanted to charge me a small fortune. not sure what that would cost these days...

  • Touch not recognised, yet charges. This is last resort, promise!

    Hi all
I'm sure there are a million threads on a similar note, but I have tried everything I can think of and my iPod Touch V1 is not being recognised by my computer at all. Well, kinda
I've got the latest iTunes, my USB port and cable are working correctly, everything is as it should be
When I plug the iPod in, it looks like it is recognised as it makes the little noise and it charges. However on the pc & iTunes? Nada. Nowt. Nothing.
The diagnostics state 'no iPod found', although when I view the results, it details my iPod along with it's serial number etc
I've never had any issues with it, and I can't think of any changes to my PC that might affect it
I've gone through all the troubleshooting and whatnot also
My last resort is to wipe the iPod and start again, but I'm loathe to do that in case it doesn't solve it and I have no iPod at all! At present, at least I can still use it, just can't make any changes to it
Sorry to post what I'm sure has been asked before, but I really appreciate any assistance you could offer
    Cheers

Further! I managed to restore the iPod using a different machine. Restored. Brilliant
Still doesn't work on my machine
So, after all that, it would appear that it is the computer at fault, not the iPod itself. This makes me more sad than angry
Is there anything I can do to get the machine working again? I can totally remove and reinstall iTunes and see if that helps?
It's strange in that when I plug the iPod in, it charges from the USB, but nothing else at all
Anyway, thank you for your help thus far, most appreciated

  • ZEN Nano Plus 1Gb Not Recognised, but 256Mb Works F

HI all, I've searched the FAQ but can't find anything like the problem I'm experiencing here.
I purchased a 256Mb Zen Nano Plus for my son at Christmas, and a Gb Zen Nano Plus for my wife. The 256Mb unit installed perfectly, works perfectly, no issues.
However the Gb unit does not install correctly - Windows XP SP2 recognises it as a Creative unit, although it takes an age for it to recognise the disk dri've. It appears in device manager as a generic storage volume with no drivers installed, and does not appear under My Computer - I can't even tell what firmware version is installed.
I've installed the correct drivers from Creative Technical Support. Have also tried to update the firmware, but the updater cannot find the Gb unit connected to the system.
After trying various driver updates on my own PC, uninstalling the software, reinstalling, Creative support suggested it's faulty and I should get a replacement.
Well the replacement arri'ved today and it has EXACTLY the same problems - can anyone help or advise?
    Thanks in advance,
    BT68

Arcl, I haven't a clue what's happening - have spent the best part of 5 days fiddling and installing/reinstalling. As you say, the drivers for the 256Mb and Gb are exactly the same, so why one unit should work perfectly and the larger unit refuse to work at all, I have no idea.
As stated elsewhere it appears to be some sort of compatibility issue, but I've tried it without ANY other USB devices connected, have updated my USB and Chipset drivers, and it's got me nowhere. Looks like I'll be getting a refund and going for a Sony player similar to my own, as although the software's clunky I know at least it works and is pretty much hassle-free.
Why does it seem to be a problem with the Gb units though? Both cadman and Nespa in the other thread are experiencing issues with the units, I assume they're Gb too?

  • Ipod shuffle not recognized but charges

I have an IPod shuffle 4th gen and when plug it in,  it charges but it not recognized by my computer or Itunes. The cable i used is new however, this problem has not occured previously.
When i connect it, it does come up with the orange light. It still plays music but i can't sync it with my itunes

This problem started when you started using your new USB docking cable?  If it worked before with you old cable, and does not now with the new cable, and nothing else changed in your computer's setup, such as new USB devices or connecting through a USB hub, then the cause is likely to be the cable.  The connector has separate points of contact for data and power, so it is possible for it to charge while not connecting for data.

  • I pod not recognised by pc

i have had my ipod for a few months its always worked fine then recently when pluged in to pc via usb2 it says on pc the usb devise you connected has malfunctioned and i can no longer transfer music to it. how can i fix this

    Hi nicholas_02!
What does your iPod display when you connect it to your computer?
Is your iPod recognized by "My Computer" area, or not? If it is, then see if it is recognized by iTunes or not.
Probably most importantly, be sure to have completely installed your iPod/iTunes' software on your computer before you connect your iPod.
Do that by inserting the installation CD that came with your iPod, and following all the steps it tells you, being sure to only connect your iPod when it tells you to, and when the installation process is complete.
If you've already done all the registeration/installation, then first start out connecting your iPod in Disk Mode
If that doesn't help, and your iPod isn't being recognized by "MY COmputer" as well as iTunes, then check out this link -> iPod isn't recognized by My computer or in iTunes
If your iPod is being recognized by "My Computer" but simply not iTunes, see this Apple article here -> iPod not being recognized by iTunes

If any post helps or solves your issue, please mark it that way accordingly. Thank you for helping the boards!

  • TS1424 iPhone in-app purchase not credited but charged.

I was charged 3 times for an in-app purchase for Bejeweled Blitz and received an error 2 of the 3 times for the purchase from my iPhone, so I was not aware that I was charged 3 times until I checked my iTunes account today.  I was only credited from Bejewled Blitz with one charge of $1.99 for 270,000 coins.  I need $1.99 times 2 credited back from them or the points added (270,000 coins for $1.99).
    Thank you in advance,
