POD XT latency in USB

I'm setting up my new home studio with iMac G5 and Logic Express. keyboard works fine. I;m having a problem using the POD XT as an input device in USB mode. The latency is huge and makes this unusable. I've gone through the audio outputs to a digi002 with Logic and had no problems but, alas, i haven;t got one of those. Any suggestions?

This seems to be an issue that is related to PODxt and Tiger. The PODxt worked great with Panther, but as soon as I installed Tiger it was game over. I've tried everything I could think of to get latency down to a usable level, and ended up plugging the line outs of the POD into the line in on my Presonus Firebox. This works like a champ, but is not exactly ideal - especially if you don't have an external audio interface sitting around.
There are a handful of threads regarding this in the Apple Discussions Garageband forums and over in the Line6 forums on their site. There are a few folks that list various settings and combinations of connections that they have used and claim work for them, but I have been unable to duplicate any of their success. You might give that a look and see if you have better luck than I did.
The current Line6 driver for the POD says that it is not qualified for use with Tiger, and is dated 4/28/05. I keep hoping that a driver update from Line6 might help, but as the months since Tiger's release go by with no sign of a driver update, my hopes are fading.

Computer thinks i pod is a data usb storage device

Had to change the i pod into a data retrival. Done this enable disk use. Now i tunes wont find the i pod atall updating etc the module is there but the computer thinks its a usb storage device. I pod under edit prefrences is saying that no i pod conneced. Done a restore on i pod and used the updater. Uninstalled i tunes and installed it again and again. Orange lights and green lights are flashing on my i pod its locked me out of it. Why if ive restored it to factory settings wont it let me use it for music and not data retrival storage. Ive done a add hardware wizard it simply says usb storage device and not i pod which is what it has to be to get music. Ive looked for options on i tunes for the i pod and the icons gone so i cannot untick enable disk use. All usb hubs are working i am at a total loss at what to do please someone help me out thanks mr d roberts

That's exactly what mine said. Tried to uninstall completely and reinstall, and it still didn't work. Apple tech told me to take it to apple service centre. Take a look at my post.

Difference in latency between USB and FW interfaces?

So I bought Logic Studio the other day, after thinking about it for a while. Seems great so far!
I am planning to use Mainstage for several instruments, vocals etc., and I am about to go buy an audio interface. Originally thinking about the m-audio ProFire 2626 (Firewire), I discovered that the Fast Track Ultra 8R (USB) has more (but probably lesser quality) Mic-preamps / instrument inputs out of the box. So, I'm wondering, will I experience more latency within Mainstage with a USB-interface compared to a FW-interface?

best to try several. For Midi I use Amt8's with my Mini and G5, and go direct from
a USB kybd controller (M Audio Keystation 88) with my Powerbook. Never had latency
except with an Amt4 and the Powerbook. For audio, I use a Firepod fp10 or a Metric Halo2882.

Pod Touch 32GB MTP USB device has failed to install and can't sync.

After updating iTunes on my Win7 64bit PC, when I plug my iPod Touch 32GB in, I get the error message "MTP USB device has failed to install" and can't sync. Yesterday, everything worked well.
Need help, please!

Thank you. I removed iTunes, QT, Safari and related software, then applied a Windows update and reinstalled iTunes and related software. It solved my problem and let me sync my iPod.

I pod wont work with usb

I tried to connect my ipod to usb and it says it needs to be formatted? I click format and it says there was an error communicating please disconnect and reconnect? I just keep going round in circles?

slim chance, you need to leave it in a warm place for several days (or longer if possible), don't turn it on, don't charge it. then when you've left it to dry out, try charging it.
it is a VERY slim chance though, don't get your hopes up.

I pod isnt found atall by windows xp

I recently had to fix my computer cause it over heated now its fixed. I went into my i tunes and set up i pod as enable disk mode for data transfer. No i want music so i try and update it and nothing it wont find it atall as an i pod only as a USB STORAGE DEVICE!. I Tried to install hardware using i pod driver disk but computer isnt finding it as an i pod only as storage device. I plugged it in all usb hubs they all working fine. I go to the options to untick the enable disk mode, the options logo isnt there in i tunes atall nothing. In EDIT then prefrences then i pod tab it says i pod is not connected. Orange and green lights are flashing on it and it wont let me update songs on to it. I tried uninstalling i tunes 4 times and using the i pod updater, nothing. I went to RESTORE it the same thing happens, and tried to update it again same thing happens. I despeartly want to get my i pod back and im afraid im wont be able to now. Some one had a similar problem on here suggested to relocate the DRIVE but i dont understand what that means! Please someone help me get my i pod back to being an i pod. Using i tunes version 6. Mr d roberts. Also i lost the tab that goes covers the i pods memory port any ideas on how to get a new one!

I-pod not recognized by Computer

Hello, everyone. I've had my 80G classic for about two years and last week bad things happened. When I plugged in my I-pod it said that this device could work better using USB 2.0. I thought that this was weird but didn't think much of it.( My I-pod had been using USB 2.0 for a few months on this computer) then the next day. It stopped connecting at all and says that this device can not be recognized. I have turned off my PC and tried pulling the power cord out. I've tried reinstalling my drivers. The funny thing is that I can still charge my I-pod with fire-wire and it works normal besides this.

That sounds like something strange may have happened to your USB drivers, lichu.
In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you worked through the following document?

WHY wont someone help i pod isnt found anymore

Had a i pod shuffle working as usb storage device for like 3 months now i ve tried everything to get it back working again to i pod for updating music. I eventually got it working last night someone on icq told me how to do it i got i pod updating music and had module in source listBut i have forgotten how to do it all now. I want i pod to work as i pod not usb s device. Under edit prefrences it says i pod not connected but its in. Ive tried uninstalling software and installing it again for i pod nothing it didnt work atall. Now i havent got i pod options screen on i tunes it wont let me update it or restore it what do i do then. Please someone help me guide me throught the process. I need to get i pod module in source list again so i can update my music thanks. I pod isnt corrupted it plays fine.

I pod isnt found again when its taking out of port

Got i tunes version 6 i had to remove it and reinstall it after i uninstalled i pod installed it again. When i go to put in i pod into its usual usb drive i tunes wont find it it doesnt come up in the source list. The only way is to uninstall it and install software so its formatted by the i pod driver. Have to do this everytime for i pod to work surely theres another way. I can update songs fine when i pod is connected but when pc turned off it does the same thing it doesnt find it as i pod when i turn it on.

80 Gig I-Pod White Screen

my i-pod's screen has gone copletaly white, when i plug it into the computer it comes up at the bottem right hands corner of the screen as a USB but i-tunes doen't recognise it. when i plug it into the computer the screen goes completaly white and nothing else happens. ive tried resetting it, restoring it and everything.
should i send it into itunes to get fixed or is there an other way i could do to fix it my self.
please help!! its been like this for ages, if i have to send it in can u show me how, i have no idea where to go on the web site to send it in.

I've gone to that web site and it worked, i-tunes knews its an i pod and not a USB and i can put all my songs and pod casts on there but then when i want to use the ipod the screen is still completly white. and then when i re-plug it back into the computer it doesnt recognise it again. Do you think that i should send it into Apple and get them to fix it? my ipod is still under warrenty. but my ipod has a cracked screen and the hold butten has fallen out. but the screen broke before my ipod started playing up, do you think Apple will still replace it or fix it that its under warenty but has a broken screen and no hold butten?

USB devices not detected in VMware [SOLVED; Using Virtualbox instead]

I am running Arch as a host and XP on VMWare workstation 7. My primary purpose of installing XP on VMWare was to use my edit my Line6 POD (behaves as a usb sound card) and get my USB TV Tuner box to work. The big problem that I am facing is that VMWare is not detecting any USB device (not even my USB Hard Drive).
I have the usb controller installed.
Any suggestions?

I don't know vmware but with other virtual machines there is often a configuration option whether usb drives should be automatically mounted or not. Sometimes automounting also only works if the vm has the focus, i.e. is the active window.

USB Vs FIREWIRE AUDIO INTERFACES?

what is the advantage of having a firewire audio interface over a usb audio interface?
I have a Edirol UA-25 USB Audio interface and am going to be using it with my new macbook pro that i have just ordered!
I just want to know if this interface would work fine with logic on a macbook pro? or would it reduce performance coz its USB and not Firewire? and buy how much? whats the difference?

Basically, USB won't allow you to go with buffer settings as low as Firewire. That means you will have more latency with USB than with FW. Some drivers are more CPU intensive than others but I can't say this is a USB thing only. The first Yamaha MLAN drivers were terrible even if MLAN uses FW. I don't think USB or FW have an impact on tracks count.

Midi controllers that suggest direct USB to comp or wall wort - necessary?

I am talking about the Midi controllers that can be phantom powered from your computer, but have documentation that strongly recommends an independant power supply. I was wondering if this actually effects the performance. Either through having it from the direct computer's USB outlet or even through a USB hub; what kind of performance are we talking about?
In particular, I have an M-audio Oxygen 8 and an Evolution X-session and only a limited amount of outlets available at my workstation and zero direct USB ports on my Mac.
I want to know if how the performance is effected, and most importantly, if it somehow creates a latency (especially for real-time controls like knobs and faders and such). thanks!
It would be worth it for me to reconfigure my set-up if it were a detectable latency issue.

USB outlet directly on your mac? or from a USB hub? and is that HUB bus powered or powered via its own wall wort?
i might have to break down and buy a larger USB hub, but i'm out of electrical outlets on my strip!

HT1923 i-pod touch wont work!

My i-pod touch has a USB connection pic as well as the i-tunes logo on it and it wont resent in anyway. Is there a way to fix this? It doesnt show up in i-tunes, nor does it show up in windows explorer. I have re-installed i-tunes, but that hasnt made any difference.

Windows thinks my ipod is a disk drive?

Apple i-pod nano 1st generation
Issues:
...i-pod not listed in "My Computer"
...i-pod not connecting to i-tunes
...The "Do Not Disconnect" does appear on the i-pod's face screen.
...If the i-pod is connected via usb port to my computer prior to turning the computer on, then Windows will not boot up. I have to unplug the usb cable so that Windows will boot up.
...Same with i-tunes. The i-pod can not be connected to my computer prior to opening i-tunes or the program will not open. Once I unplug the usb cable, then i-tunes opens up immediately.
...Did verify that I have the latest version of i-tunes installed.
...In Device Manager, "USB Mass Storage Device" is listed under Universal Serial Bus Controllers
...Right clicked on the above to update drivers...pop up window indicates the best drivers are already installed.

My computer is running Windows Vista.
My kids both have an i-pod touch and they sync / connect without any problem.
Could the problem be that my computer is confusing my i-pod for a disk drive? Or does anyone see what the problem may be based on the issues I have listed?
Any suggestions on how to fix this frustrating problem?

the ipod is suppose to be seen as a disk drive. if you don't like that, then in itunes uncheck "enable disk usage"
"ipod not listed in itunes" do have another computer you can plug this into? and the booting issue is a windows problem, it will do that for certain devices, i cant have my psp plugged is while it boots.
have you reinstalled itunes?
