Podcast App in IOS 8.0

Listening to Podcasts using the Podcast APP continues to be a struggle and now even worse in IOS 8.0
Anyone have any suggestions how to make listening to Podcast as easy as it used to be.
Everytime I go to download my daily podcasts it is a gong show and never works the same each day.
Is there another App that works better than the Podcast App?
Thx Much

Hello SKBE123,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are looking for a way to display podcasts in a specific order. The following article explains how to set up a "podcast station" that allows you to organize your podcast subscriptions.
iTunes 11 for Mac: Download podcasts and educational media
Go to the section "Create a podcast station".

  • ITunes 11.1 and / or the Podcast app on iOS 7 will not allow me to create play lists in iTunes. Is there an app that will allow me to create podcast plays lists and play them on the iPhone running iOS7 ?

iOS 7 will not alow podcasts lists in the music app so we have to use the podcast app
but iTunes 11.1 and / or the Podcast app on iOS 7 will not show podcast play lists created in iTunes (well maybe it does but clicking on the podcasts app causes iTunes to freeze so can not select)
sometime some folders created in iTunes have appeared with the Podcast app but others not.
creating an on the go list in my iphone is agony - I have over 100 podcasts I have subscribed to and when creating a list you can not view by most recently downloadded podcast
AND you can't search (no search bar) so I have to scroll through to find a podcast that might have been updated - but they are not in any logocal order that I can work out (not alphbetical or date added).
Video podcasts are mixed with audio
podcasts I delete (unsubscribe to) keep coming back
    its a disaster
my question is there an alternative iPhone app that works with iTunes
no I don't want an app where I have to download to the phone directly, thats 100 subscriptions I will have to make agaian

Agree about the disaster part. I haven't found a fix within iTunes.
I gave up and switched to downcast 2 days ago. Even though it was a hassle to re-subscribe to all my podcasts, im so much happier.
To make switching easier, I found that in iTunes you can "get info" on the podcast and copy the RSS address to the clipboard. Put all of these in a message note. When iCloud syncs the note to your phone, you can copy and paste the urls into downcast one at a time to subscribe.
Downcast has crashed on me occassionally when I'm subscribing to feeds, but so far it has recovered gracefully each time and no data was lost.

  • Podcasts App in iOS not Downloading New Episodes for Some Podcasts

I am running version 2.2  (740) of the podcasts app in iOS 8.0.2
Some of my podcasts are no longer updating, while some continue to work normally.
If I navigate to My Podcasts > [Podcast Name] and then go into the feed tab, I cannot see any new episodes. However, If I unsubscribe and delete the podcast, then go search for it, I can see the new episodes. From here, I can even download individual episodes, but I cannot subscribe to the podcast. For some reason, the purple 'SUBSCRIBE' button does nothing when I tap it.
Is there a way to reset the Podcasts app? Do I need to hard reset the phone?
    Thanks!

Since no help was coming from Apple, I decided to try uninstalling 11.1.0.126 and then re-install the newly released version of iTunes for Windows, 11.1.1.11.
The Refresh button now seems to work, and new podcast are being downloaded.

  • Podcast app in iOS 6 is a major headache. Need help.

I just downloaded iOS 6 as well as the Podcast App, and my podcasts from "Music" do not all transfer to the Podcast App. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

Odd also is that the synch problem I have with the Podcast app is onky on my iPod Touch where I've downloaded both the app and iOS 6.  On my iPhone 4s and iPad 2 where I am still on iOS 5, the Podcast app seems to work, albeit I still receive the "We are sorry, but we are unable to authorize your account. Please contact customer service" for certain Podcast subscriptions.

  • Podcast app in iOS 7 downloading everywhere!

I had the apple podcast app only downloading audio podcasts on my iPhone and on my Mac it only downloaded video podcasts.  That is how I cosume these.  Since update to iOS 7, all podcasts appear on both iphone and mac.  I don't want video podcasts on my iphone because I don't want to use the space there plus I do not watch them on the iphone, I watch them on my Macbook Air.  Conversely, I don't listen to audio podcast on the MBA.
I don't remember how I got it to do this but it is not doing this after updating.
Anyone else do this that can tell me how to do it?
    Thanks in advance.
    Edgar

  • Podcasts apps on IOS 7.1 plays by itself

I'm having the problem where the podcasting apps on my iPhone 5 will resume playing by itself when the phone is locked.  I'll pick up my phone and in the lock screen it will show the podcast playing from when I stopped it hours before hand.  It mostly happened with Apple's podcast app but now has started with Instacast. I have a feeling its because you can slide up on the lock screen to access the controls but it's getting aggravating because I'm losing my place on a podcasts due to what seems like a design flaw.
Is anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks,
    ~ Chris

Apps are "hidden" only if they're restricted, and only a few of the apps included with the iOS can be. Third party apps can be restricted by ratings:
    Settings > General > Restrictions >
If not restricted, search for it using the Spotlight search box  - it may have been moved to another home screen page or inside a folder.
Also: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout

  • Do you plan to update the podcast app for iOS 7?

I can open the app but it will not let me scroll through my podcast at all. I can't open anything. It's dead! I have a iPhone 4S.

I ran a complete restore last night and everything is working perfectly now. Looks like the download of iOS 7 through Wi-Fi was a mistake.

  • Why  "Download Error. Tap to Retry." only Occurs in iOS Podcast app?

    Hi,
I've recently discovered problems downloading my podcast using the 'Podcasts' app in iOS. I consistently get the same error. That is, "Download error. Tap to Retry". The podcast feed I give to iTunes is generated by a WordPress plugged-in named 'podPress'. The feed is good from iTunes software on PCs running Windows, or OSX, across various versions. Instant play works, and subscription downloads work, but it doesn't work in the Podcast app in iOS devices (at least versions 7 and 8.)
The only thing I can imagine is an XML formatting issue, but I don't know where to looks.
    Thanks for any help.
Here is my feed source: http://www.internationalcsi.com/blogs/sccclub/feed/podcast/

I am not sure if this is related, but when I use the 'Feed Validator' linked to from the WordPress plug-in 'podPress', then I get one warning about a self reference. I cannot verify whether this is related to my problem, nor can I figure out how to resolve the warning.
I noticed that two other people have 'ticked' the option "I have this question too." Maybe one of you has tried this, with the same or different results?
Here is a link to the 'Feed Validator' using my feed:
    http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fsccclub.org%2Ffeed%2Fpodcast
...and, before you ask, Yes; that is the absolute path to the link referred to in the warning message, and consequently the reason I can't figure out has to resolve the message.
Try your feeds, and see if you get similar results. Thanks.

  • Podcast app crashes, new iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1.2

Anyone else having problems with the Apple Podcast app in iOS 8.1.2? The app crashes after being open for about 30 seconds.
I have tried updating the Podcast app. I have tried erasing my iPhone and restoring from a backup. Nothing works.
Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good app that can play the podcasts stored on my iPhone by iTunes. I have tried Overcast, but it seems to require resubscribing and downloading my podcasts again, without recognizing the podcasts already transferred to my iPhone by iTunes.
    Thank you.
    Brian

Same here (iphone 6, ios 8.1.2), podcast startup normal and just auto quit while begin to play.
Strange enough, I check with control center and press the play button... it works, really **** off!!

  • Episode description shows up in all web and desktop clients but not iOS 7 podcast app

I'm a podcast producer, and I've encountered a weird problem with episode descriptions. Namely, they are not showing up in the podcast app for iOS 7. (I have not had the opportunity to check phones other than my own.)
Browsing this forum, it seems like other people have reported similar problems, but they all came down to feed metadata problems, which were preventing episode descriptions from showing up anywhere on iTunes. While it's certainly possible that something is wrong with my feed metadata, what's weird is that episode descriptions show up just fine in iTunes, or if I look at my iTunes URL in a web browser. It's just on iOS that there's a problem. And yes, I do know that you have to be subscribed and tap the little 'i' - that just takes me to a page with my episode's length, data size (almost always very incorrect) and no description.
    Anyone have any ideas?
For reference, here is my feed URL:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/toafn
And here we are on the iTunes store:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-once-and-future-nerd/id711119555
    Thanks guys.

You are using feedburner - and with it you have it tracking stats - turn that off.
That is known to cause issues - especially with iOS devices.
    In your feedburner settings.
under - Analyze  and then  "Configure Stats"  - make sure all items are deselected.
And then under - Optimize -  and then "smartcast"  make sure "include itunes podcasting elements" is also NOT selected.
That should take care of issues people are seeing.

  • Does anyone know how the podcasts app is supposed to work?

The podcasts app with iOS 7 is drively me absolutely and completely crazy.
1.I try to sync podcasts between my core iTunes library and two iDevices.
I sync a whole bunch of podcasts from my iTunes library. At some point, they randomly disappear. I come to the support communities were the general consensus is to remove iTunes from the equation. I do that. I resubscribe to all of my podcasts on my phone. I go through the tedium of downloading all the old episodes, clicking each episode one-by-one since there is no button to "download all". It works, sort of, but episodes don't sync across all devices. Finally, I decide I'd be content if it just worked on ONE device.
    2. I resubscribe to all my podcasts on my iphone only.
Everything works, sort of, for awhile. Then one day I make the mistake of connecting my phone to my computer. The sync process decides to remove some (but not all) of my podcasts. Even those that haven't been listened to are gone. They are still available through "download old episdoes".
But I don't WANT to download them again. I already have, three or four times.  Worse yet is when they're replaced with the stupid cloud symbol. Look, I want to listen to these AWAY from the cloud, away from the internet.
I'm just 100% baffled by what the intent of this app is.  I have "Subscription - off" and "Refresh podcast - manually" on.  I am about to re-tag all podcasts as simple songs simply to get away from the irritating podast app.
Can someone please answer this very, very simple question:
How do I download and retain podcasts on my iPhone without them a) disappearing randomly or b) disappearing after they've been listened to?

Several ways to get similar results.  Image > Adjustments > Posturize with low values similar to what you'd use n Cutout.  This is the most flexible way I can think of as you keep the image in RGB mode with layers intact.  A more radical approach would be to reduce bit depth using Indexed Colour.  You'll need to experiment with settings, try changing Forced to Primaries, and Matte to Foreground Color.  There's no going back from this route, although you can change the mode back to RGB to re-enable layers, adjustment layers etc.
A nice thing about the Filter gallery filters is that you can change the layer to a Smart object with all the control that gives you.
Now if only this forum could filter out bizarre content.

  • Podcasts app not refreshing new content?

Hi, my podcasts app is not refreshing new content for last 4 days, is anyone else facing the same issue?

    Hello there, ikgandhi.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps to review for issues with the Podcasts app for iOS:
Podcasts app for iOS: Managing subscriptions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6190
Default settings: From your Home screen, tap Settings and then Podcasts. These settings are shared by all of your podcast subscriptions. These are known as default podcast settings.
Refresh Every: You can choose how often your iOS device checks for new episodes to your subscriptions. It's set to check every six hours by default.
Limit Episodes: You can pick how many episodes you see for subscriptions.
Download Episodes: The latest episodes of your podcasts will download automatically if your iOS device is connected to Wi-Fi.
Delete Played Episodes: If this is turned on, episodes will delete 24 hours after you finish playing them.
Use Cellular Data: If your iOS device has a cellular connection, you can allow downloads to use cellular data when Wi-Fi isn't available. This is off by default. Downloads using cellular data are limited to 100MB per episode. If an episode is larger than that, it won't start downloading until you're connected to Wi-Fi.
Podcast-specific settings: The second place you'll find subscription settings is within the Podcasts app. Tap a podcast subscription under My Podcasts and pull down with one finger to reveal the settings buttons. These settings are unique to each subscription. If you don't change anything here, the podcast subscription will just use the default settings. If you do make changes to a specific subscription’s settings, they'll only apply to that podcast.
Play: This setting lets you change the order in which a subscription plays. If you're listening to a news style podcast, you may want to set this to play the new episodes first. If the series is more episodic, you may prefer to play oldest to newest.
Sort Order: This changes the sort order of episodes that appear for a podcast (not its playback order).
Subscribed: When this is on, new episodes of this podcast will be marked as unplayed as they become available.
Refresh Every: You can choose how often your iOS device checks for new episodes to your subscriptions. It's set to check every six hours by default.
Limit Episodes: You can pick how many episodes you see for subscriptions.
Download Episodes: The latest episodes of your podcasts will download automatically.
Delete Played Episodes: If this is on, episodes will be deleted 24 hours after you finish playing them unless you've marked them as Saved.
    Inactive subscriptions
If you do not play or access a subscription within 15 days, your subscription to that podcast will go inactive and you will no longer receive updates to it. As soon as you access the subscription again it will refresh.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Podcasts sync'd from iTunes not showing up in Podcast app

Another question from the iOS 6 upgrade ... I know there is a Podcasts app that you need for playing Podcasts in iOS 6 rather than in the Music app.
The problem is, the podcasts I subscribe to in iTunes on my PC are not showing up in the Podcasts app in iOS 6.
iTunes says they are sync'd to this phone, but they do not show up anywhere at all...
Ideas? Similar experiences? Any insight appreciated.
    Thx
    Terry

For what it's worth I just started with a clean slate (restored the phone to base iOS6) and all is magically well again.

  • Why is the podcast app asking me to stream an already downloaded app?

    Hi,
I have a selection of downloaded podcasts which I subscribe to on the Podcast app on iOS running on an iPhone 4S with iOS 6.13. I have listened to the majority of the podcasts without any problems, but on the last few it is asking me to turn on mobile data to stream the podcasts even though they have already been downloaded.
I have deleted them and downloaded them again, but the same problem occurs. Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?
    Thanks

They appear to be corrupt. Delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country.

  • Podcast app not loading any content  after ios8.2 update

I recently got a new MBP and have finally been able to update my old 4s from ios6.0.1 to ios8.2.
The new look is nice, some of the features are better but I have not been able to get my podcast app to load any podcast at all.  It hangs on the "updating library" and then crashes!  I went into the podcast section on iTunes and clicked on the ones that I want and nothing at al loads.  I have only 4.8gb of free space, I know it's not much but something should load!
Am I missing something......I'm assuming that it works the way it used to where it isn't actually downloading the content but would just stream it.  Or do I need to download them to my MBP then sync?
The new iOS is nice but it's very bloated for the older/smaller devices and I find my battery drains a lot quicker than it used to.

    Hi greg h,
The first thing I would suggest is to try to stream a podcast with the Podcasts app for iOS.  This will not take up any space on your iPhone 4s, and should not require any updates to your iTunes library.  Click on the link below for additional information regarding downloading podcasts directly to your iPhone or syncing with iTunes.
Podcasts app for iOS: Stream, download, and subscribe to podcasts - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201859
With Podcasts for iOS, you can stream or download podcasts over a Wi-Fi or a cellular network. You can also subscribe to podcasts that you listen to or watch regularly. Podcasts for iOS even lets you subscribe to password-protected podcasts.
    What you'll need
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with the latest version of iOS
    Podcasts app for iOS
    Wi-Fi or cellular internet connection
You don't need to be signed in with your Apple ID to play or download podcasts, but you will if you want to sync your podcasts.
    Streaming
You can stream podcast episodes you don't want to be stored on your iOS device. Your iOS device will need a continuous internet connection when you choose to stream.
Browse or Search for a podcast.
Tap a podcast to view details.
Tap the name of an episode you want to play.
The podcast episode will begin playing. If you allow Podcasts to use cellular data (under Settings > Podcasts), streamed podcasts of any size will play.
    Cheers,
    - Judy
