Podcast Capture and Epiphan Appliance

Hello,
We have purchased an Epiphan VGA2USB LR appliance, which is interfaced with 'Apple Mac Mini' or 'Apple Macbook Pro' computers.
We currently use 'Apple Podcast Capture' (under Mac OS X 10.6.5) in order to capture audio and video signals and to send it to a Podcast Producer 2 server (under Mac OS X 10.6.5 server).
We have recently applied the new version of Epiphan drivers (3.24.10) and we have encountered many crashes since this update. You will find below some logs in order to help you to identify the source of our problem ?
Have you already encountered this kind of problem and if yes, is there a solution ?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

I have seen these kind of crashes before (not just with the Epiphan). One thing you can do to avoid this is the following:
• In System Preferences > Epiphan, set the resolution to 'Fixed' and select a smaller resolution like 800x600 or 640x480.
• In the same panel, lower the maximum framerate

  • Using Keynote with Podcast Capture and Dual Screens

    Hi everyone,
We are trying to use a dual screen setup to record some Keynote presentations using Podcast Capture (i.e Dual mode, with the Keynote presentation in one screen and the presenter in the other).
The problem we are having is that when in full screen mode, Keynote takes control of both displays, thus stopping the Podcast application from being displayed. Even if we switch off the Presenter Display on the second screen, the second screen turns black.
I know we can start and stop recording with hotkeys, but we would prefer to be able to see the Capture app in one window with the presentation full screen in the other.
Perhaps this is just an oversight on Apple's part, but I'm finding it hard to believe its not possible. If anyone else has a workaround then please share.
    Thanks.

Other applications are not visible when Keynote is playing back.  Keynote takes over control of the graphics system when playing back presentations to enable Keynote to display properly.
When I play back Keynote and I want to look at a second application, I use a second Mac.

  • Use podcast capture to capture more meta data

    Hey guys,
I'm currently working with a group of local colleges in the UK to produce a system which uses Podcast Producer and Podcast Capture and is then fed into our front-end.
The problem is, we want all the podcasts categorized accordingly. Is there a way, without creating a custom workflow for every possible subject/level/type, that we can make podcast capture prompt for more information before submission?
The 'userRequirements' part of the default workflow's plists make it seem like this was a planned feature, but adding more entries into the userRequirements doesn't make it prompt for them. Any ideas?
I've got a distinct feeling this isn't possible, but i wanted to ask before developing a Plan-B.
    Regards,
    Liam Gladdy

As Maximilian said, Podcast Capture currently does not utilize the userRequirements array. You should file an enhancement request at radar.apple.com to let Apple know that you'd like to see this implemented.

  • Podcast Capture shows still bound to server

    Hello all,
We bound an iSight camera on an iMac to Podcast Producer as a remote cam and it worked well. After removing the camera from the "Cameras" list in Podcast Producer the  Podcast Capture software on the iMac still shows it is connected as a shared camera. I've  tried the "Stop Sharing" in Podcast Capture and after connecting to the server and putting in the server admin and password, Podcast Capture will display "Stopping camera sharing..." and will stay that way until I stop it. It still thinks it's a remote camera. No error message is shown.
Does anyone know why Podcast Capture still thinks it's being shared and why can't it log into the server and "remove" itself?
    Thanks!
    James

It appears that upon successful completion and submission, the file is, indeed, located in ~/Library/Application Support/Podcast Producer
However, that file is a .plist file, not a video file. Additionally, when making a video via Podcast Capture, I paused the video halfway through....nothing appeared in that directory.
What I would like to know is where is the audio/video file stored between hitting "record" and successfully submitting the file to PcP. So that if there is a server connection issue, you can locate the file.
Also, the big question is this: If I have a Mac Mini in a classroom, hooked up to a usb or fw camera, and it is bound to the PcP server, when I select to use that camera, is the file stored on that mac Mini, or on the particular computer issuing the "pcast" command to start recording?

  • Podcast Producer and Internet Explorer

I've configured Podcast Producer on 10.6.8, and it is working fine - items are processed from the Capture software through to PcP2 and Xgrid, and are then uploaded to a Wiki.
The issue is with clients using Internet Explorer (any version) and their ability to play audio files uploaded from Capture or through the web interface of the wiki. Videos work fine, but whatever code is used to upload just audio files to the wiki cannot be interpreted by IE. I know that 10.6.8 was meant to address some of these issues, but I am just not sure how to proceed.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
    Cheers
    Kieran

Not sure if this will fix your problem, but I was having the same problem until I looked at the specs for XGrid, it has to run on an Intel Mac. This is where you can get the specs:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306737
Here is what is in the doc:
    Podcast Capture requirements
Any Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iSight camera (built-in or external) or FireWire DV camcorder
    Podcast Producer Server requirements
Any Mac running Mac OS X Server version 10.5 Leopard
Xsan for optional cluster file services
    Podcast Producer Xgrid rendering requirements
Any Intel-based Macintosh Server or Intel-based desktop Mac (a Mac Pro, for example)
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or Mac OS X Server version 10.5 Leopard
At least 1 GB of memory (RAM) plus 512 MB of additional RAM per processor core
At least 50 GB of available disk space
Xsan for optional cluster file services
    Quartz Extreme-enabled video chipset
Note: Quartz Extreme support can be verified in the Graphics section of Apple System Profiler.
Note: If a system is providing multiple Podcast services (for example, Podcast Producer and Podcast Producer Xgrid rendering), the system needs to meet both requirements.

  • Podcast capture

My 2007 macbook was previously used before i bought it. Its running on its stock OS X so Snow leopard which im fine with, however i just came over the podcast capture app today haha being new at mac but it came up to the log in screen and it had under User name : user. So if any one knows how i can get to sign in using my name, what server i need to put, and if i put my password or if it wants the password of the previous owner of my computer, thank you.

Podcast Capture requires Mac OSX Server and Podcast Producer to function. There is a tutorial here.

  • Podcast Capture start/stop shortcut key

I am attempting to create a podcast using Podcast Capture. The podcast will include a Keynote presentation. Podcast Capture does not start when I use the shortcut key (command F2) while playing the Keynote presentation. I have selected the “Allow Exposé, Dashboard, and others to use screen” option in Keynote’s slideshow preferences. Can anyone help?

I figured it out. The keyboard settings in System Preferences needed changed.

  • Using Podcast Capture with a mobile me feed?

Hi, I have a mobile me account with about 5 gb in memory. I was wondering if I could use podcast capture (snow leopard 10.6.2) and use my idisk in mobile me as my feed/ server to connect to. I will eventually be publishing my podcast to Itunes and I am trying to figure out how to either get a free onlien server or use mobile me... Is there anyway to do this? If not what solutions do you recommend thanks, cmacintosh

Podcast Capture needs to work in conjunction with Mac OSX Server and Podcast Producer: as I understand it, it's not intended for the ordinary OSX.

On the general subject of podcasting, you may find this page helpful in giving you some background:

My recommendation would be to use Podcast Maker, which works seamlessly with your iDisk. Please see my answer in this thread:

  • Podcast Capture 2 erroring randomly

We are having problems with Podcast Capture randomly displaying the error message "Recording stopped because the format of the source media changed." This happens randomly like I stated. Today, it worked fine all morning, then in the afternoon two times it came up for the instructor.
Our setup is this. We have the video from two Vaddio EVI-D70s going into an Extron PIP422 Picture-in-Picture Processor. The output is going into a Canopus ADVC-110 via composite video. Audio is coming in through the left audio in. There is nothing plugged into the right.(both analog).
The output is coming out the Canopus firewire and plugging into a new Mac Mini running 10.6.3. With this we are doing a single video capture.
Any suggestions why we are getting this error message?

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Podcast Capture but since it works only with Podcast Producer on Mac OSX Server you may be able to get help in the forum for that:

  • Podcast Capture freezes

    Hello,
    Configuration :
--- 1 capture agent on a MAC MINI under MAC OS X 10.6.5
    --- 1 PCP2 server on an XServe under MAC OS X 10.6.5
After 10 minutes capture, Podcast capture preview image freezed, but timer continued running.
After checking capture agent's status, it said "Running", but in fact, capture had stopped.
So, I stopped the capture after 30 minutes, and the video was in fact only 10 minutes long ; it stopped at the same time Podcast capture preview image freezed.
    I got these 2 error messages :
    --- on PCP2 server in /var/log/system.log :
pcastmongrel[67561]: No preview received from agent
    --- on capture agent in /var/log/system.log :
QTCaptureSession warning: Session received the following error while decompressing video: Error Domain=NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=-8995 "The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -8995.)". Make sure that the formats of all video outputs are properly configured.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with Podcast Capture but since it works only with Podcast Producer on Mac OSX Server you may be able to get help in the forum for that:

  • Can't get rid of podcast capture initial screen?

can't get rid of podcast capture screen?

When I open the download with the "Get Info"..it is described as a Podcast Capture Document...which is NOT how it was downloaded. It was downloaded as a PDF file. When I try to open the download in the "Open With" option I can not use any application except i photo, mail, textedit, i tunes and utilities...none of these options will open the download...which as I said was a PDF file when I originally downloaded it (it was a magazine). It appears that the download has been converted into a Podcast Capture Document....and I want that to stop..
Any ideas how to keep this happening to future downloads??? If I can figure out how to stop this conversion (from PDF to Podcast) I'll be happy, because I can just down load the magazine again.
    Thanks..
    Miguel

  • Why is the podcast capture app missing from  Mountain Lion?

According to this link http://support.apple.com/kb/SP654 the podcast capture/publisher apps are included in OS X Mountain Lion but they are in fact NOT there!

So I just got off the phone with apple and according to the Advisor I spoke with the website is incorrect. Or as they said a typo. Publisher and Capture are not in Mountain Lion and were never meant to be in Mountain Lion. They also said that they were in the process of fixing the website. Funny thing is I bet it does not change. He did give me an app recomendation to use out of the mac store. He said "Podcast Assistant". I am going to download it and check it out.He claimed it was free. If anyone else knows of a good one please let us know. This does suck because I found the apple software easy to use.

  • Podcast Feeds and Custom Workflows missing after 10.6.2 update

Podcast Producer was working fine. I had some custom workflows and a number of podcasts. Then I applied 10.6.2 System Update.
Now my custom Workflows are missing in the Podcast Capture dialog box, the web page shows no podcasts (and the fact that it was updated at the time I ran Software Update!).
I have tried pcastconfig --sync_library without success.
The podcasts are there, the atom feed just can't see them!
And ideas what I need to delete/change?
    Nick

I have managed to get all but one of my workflows back using (as root)
    podcast --installworkflow --path /Library/PodcastProducer/Shared/Server/Workflows/F520417E-7E57-4EF8-8FE1-4CD1CB 495B1B.pwf
where F520417E-7E57-4EF8-8FE1-4CD1CB495B1B.pwf was one of the missing custom workflows identified by creation date.
    then
    podcast --enableworkflow --workflow_uuid F520417E-7E57-4EF8-8FE1-4CD1CB495B1B
Also I used Podcast Composer on a client machine instead.
Copy the problematic workflow over to the client machine, open it up in Podcast Composer, and then use the option to Deploy to Server.
