Podcast chapters out of order

My downloaded podcast chapters are appearing out of order in my library.  I am unable to manipulate the menus or the "get info" data to reorganize them back into numerical order.  Very frustrating when trying to listen to several chapters in a row.

Podcasts are connected in iTunes via a hidden tag field called ITUNESPODCASTURL, the order is then controled by ITUNESPODCASTID. I use mp3tag to edit these when I feel the need and a script I wrote called UpdateTagInfo to get iTunes to notice the changes.

  • Audio book chapters out of order.

I have been having this issue for years with no resolve. I import audio books into itunes, and they are in order.  I then move them to my ipod and they are out of order. ANY HELP?? PLEASE? I see people have posted this problem all over for years but I see no resolution.

I had the same problem as you and what was causing it was that the sort fields were not the same for each track.  So the tracks that had the same info in their sort fields were grouped together when they transferred to my iphone.
I know that might not make things clear.  Here's what you can do to fix it.
In itunes, select all the tracks of the audiobook, then hit Command-I to open up the Get Info/Multiple Item Information window.
There should be four tabs: Info, Video, Sorting, Options.  Click on the Info tab first.  Any fields that are empty are either fields that were never entered when you burned the disc OR they could be fields that are not the same for each track.  If it's the latter, that will be a big problem.  The only fields you want different between tracks are the "Disc ___ of X" and "Track ___ of X" fields.  The fix here is to put in something into each field.  But don't hit "OK" yet.
Next click on the Sorting tab and fill in something for each field because any differences here will also cause you headaches when you tranfer over to the ipod. So fill in information in each field.  Now hit okay.
If you've done it right, the software will be forced to look at the "Disc ___ of X" field when transferring the files over to your ipod and the tracks will be in the right order.

  • Placing chapters out of order

Possible? That is, I have 12 chapters, and I want them divided between two scene selection menus. However, rather than 1-6 in one and 7-12 on another menu screen, I want odds and evens: 1 ,3, 5, 7, 9, 11 on one, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 on the second. The reason for this being that, though the scenes progress in the movie in chonological order by number, they fall into two different subjective categories, and I'd like the scene selections to have them by category.

Well, answered it on my own: it's as simple as cutting and pasting between the different menu screens. I guess I was looking for changes to make in the document map.

  • Chapters out of order

When I put an audiobook from CDs onto the iPod, I put every one of the 39 chapters in order on the playlist. After syncing, the iPod no longer has the chapters in order. How should I correct this?

  • Sycing Podcasts...Listed Out of Order

When syncing my podcasts to the iPad, it does not sort my files by name, so the episodes order seems scrambled. How do I fix it?

I see a similar problem on "Smart Albums", where sorting by album name (the smart album contains four CD albums) produces songs in order within an album, but the albums aren't in the right order. This WAS a problem earlier on the iPod touch when iTunes 9.0 came out, but was eventually fixed, so hopefully this one will be also.
I don't know if there's any way to sort your podcasts into the right order on the iPad.

  • My Audio Books are in my playlist and the chapters are all correctly arranged in my I tunes. I watched it sync to my nano but after it was all done... A few of the chapters were out of order in the nano.

  • My Podcasts out of order on iTunes 11.1

I recently upgraded from iTunes 11 to 11.1 and found that the list of podcasts in the My Podcasts tab is now totally out of order. If I go to the List tab it goes back to alphabetical order, but I liked the layout and features of My Podcasts until it got messed up. Anyone else having this problem or any suggestions for how to deal with it?

This whole podcast 'upgrade' has been a disaster. One thing which might help you is if you choose 'unplayed podcasts' rather than 'my podcasts and then 'edit' - 'view options' - tick 'thread view' . This reverts the list of unplayed pods from date order to podcast order (also alphabetical) this is the closest I can get to the old list view which I used to keep track of pods. It does not of course deal with all of the other problems as these are only unplayed pods and you can't seem to open into lists but at least I can make some sense of it.

  • Podcasts out of order

Regardless of what order I arrange podcasts in on my shuffle while it's connected to iTunes (for example, I generally order them according to type and date and put them at the bottom of the list, after the music), when I play my shuffle and when I reconnect it to iTunes all of the podcasts are seemingly randomly reordered and are at the top of the list, before the music.
I don't have the shuffle setting on, I've restored the shuffle multiple times, and my iTunes software is up-to-date.
    Any suggestions?

    {quote:title=kend0g187 wrote:} I don't get why they can't just download in the order you have them in your iTunes. Then everybody wins.{quote}
I don't get it either. It used to work that way. You would click the play order column and drag the files into whatever order we chose, not iTunes. I may prefer to hear some short podcasts, regardless of date, first, followed by the longer ones. Or my favourites first. Now we have no control.
If you wanted a different sort order, you could click on that column, then right-click the Shuffle icon and select Copy To Play Order to preserve that ordering when it played. For the life of me, I don't know what that menu choice does now.
It used to be that when the Shuffle's switch was in shuffle mode, it played music in a random order. We could always switch shuffle mode off to get podcasts played in the order we wanted. Seemed fair. The Shuffle's choice rules when switched on and we ruled when switched off. Now the Shuffle has full control.
As we have not been able to choose the play order for over a year, I can only conclude that this is the way Apple wants it to work. I've already sent feedback using this page on the Apple site:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodshuffle.html
I strongly encourage everyone to let Apple know their views through that link rather than these forums as it isn't clear to me if these forums have any influence on Apple's decisions.

  • Chapter marker thumbnails getting duplicated, out of order (FCPX 10.1.4)

Group - I use FCPX to compile home movies of my kids, the pets, etc. I use footage from a Canon HD camcorder and an iPhone 6+. I import them into FCPX, trim, transition, maybe throw in some music, and usually put in 40 or so stills (JPEGS) at the end for a slide show.
The project I'm working on now is around 2.5h long after editing and transitions. I put chapter markers at the beginning of each scene, and then drag the pin to set a custom chapter marker thumbnail.
The issue - no matter what I do, I can't seem to get ALL of the thumbnails sorted properly. Meaning, I get one or two out of order, and numerous ones duplicate. I've rebooted, trashed prefs (opt-com start), copied all the clips into a new project and re-rendered, and even deleted them all and manually applied them all again. There are roughly 36 or 37 chapters in this project. I tend to get a different result each time, but with the same general problem.
Sadly, iMovie worked pretty flawlessly for me, but I thought I'd enjoy the added capabilities of FCPX. The rendering time for this movie on a one year old iMac with 24GB RAM is around 7 hours at 720p, so as you can imagine, it's not been a fun project. I've attached a screenshot of the issue on my AppleTV for reference. I've seen a lot of history with this problem, though many threads proclaimed it 'solved'. I'd disagree. Anyone have any thoughts on what I am doing wrong, or is this just more stellar quality control from Apple?
PS - Are there any recommended alternatives to FCPX? I'm noticing I use fewer and fewer Apple-branded apps, I'm starting to see a pattern here.... :^(

Discs are not my top-priority here, but I remember this rules (for iDVD):
    The Rules of Chapter Markers:
*Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the start or end of the timeline.
*Make sure no chapter markers are within a transition.
*Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the end of a transition.
*Make sure you do not have the "Share selected Clips" option checked when preparing to share to iDVD
maybe, these rules were not by limitations of software, but by 'standard'?
If you test it, try to what happens when you 'violate' these rules ...........

  • Audiobook files out of order

    Hi,
I have spent probably three hours on this help site, first figuring out how to classify an audiobook I burned as such on my iPod (which I did), but now the files are out of order - it starts with Chapter 23 then goes to Chapter 9, Chapter 14 and so on. I have tried EVERYTHING and read all relevant posts I can find on this site. It's driving me nuts.
I have re-numbered the tracks/disks by hand and tried having the "part of a compilation" box checked and unchecked. I sort it in iTunes by Album order, but on my iPod it's all messed up. My iPod is not on shuffle. I have re-set my iPod and my computer.
I cannot believe it is so difficult to get an Audiobook into iTunes and then onto your iPod. Why does Apple make it so difficult? I've already wasted so much time and really hope there is somebody out there with the heart to help me. : ) Sorry for complaining - but it's frustrating!
    Thanks!

Kristy: I have no experience of audio books...hoever logic tells me to try this.
Create a new playlist and drag the chapters to the playlist in the order that you want to listen to them. Then update your iPod.

  • Audiobooks out of order on iPod

I want to play audiobooks in a specific order. I've set the sort by field and they are correct in iTunes but out of order when downloaded to the iPod. I might mention they were were in the desired order until I recently updated the software and replaced one of the books.

This is what I did to fix the same thing with the order of podcasts...
I Can’t take credit for this, someone (riffraff)posted it long ago, but I’ve had to use it each time iTunes updates.
    1. This will erase your play lists and music list. May want to have them saved somewhere to import from later
    2. Close iTunes
    3. I went to music folder then to iTunes and under this directory
    4. I deleted iTunes Library files, library, extras, and genius
(Actually I just moved them to a new folder on the desktop if things go wrong)
    5. started iTunes.
    6. Got shaken when no songs in the music list
    7. select add folder to library
    8. select your music folder-probably iTunes Music folder
    9. let run
    10. I plugged in my shuffle, copied 5 podcasts to a playlist. Arrange in the order you want. Sync to the iPod. Detach and check. It worked for me.

  • Out of Order Audiobook files

    Hello All,
Just got my new iPod today. Upgraded from a iPod mini 4g t the new 30g. I am going to mainly use it for some Podcasts and audiobooks while I work.
As I was waiting to get my new iPod I downloaded some of my cd audio books into my library and some of the tracks are out of order. How, in my library do I put them back in order?
When I downloaded them into the library I copied them into a folder, in which they are in order, but as I said they are not in order in my library.
    HELP ME PLEASE! =-(

Atleast what I do for my Audiobooks is I label the disc number(or book as disc) and also the track number.
You can do this by right clicking on a song then selecting Get Info and you can add in a Disc number and Track number.
This can be a slightly long process trust me, I've done all the harry potter audiobooks and Lord Of the Rings unabridged + The Hobbit this way.

  • Release Date not showing - episodes out of order?

    Hi everyone!
I recently submitted a podcast for work and it was accepted yesterday. During testing, the order of the episodes were right based on the date they were released. However, checking the live version, the released column information is blank and the episodes are all out of order.
From what I understand, it's supposed to get that from the XML. For each item, we have: <pubDate>02 April 2014</pubDate> that did show up when we tested it directly.
    Any thoughts? Thank you!

Sorry, I guess I should have posted that information, haha.

  • Scene Selection out of order...

I made a movie in FInal Cut Pro and set up Scene Markers. They split up into scenes in iDVD, however the selection is out of order. I'm using 'Reflection White' theme. What happens is when you are selecting through the scenes on the menu it doesn't go in order. Starts with the first one then goes to the bottom, then back up to the top, then to the bottom. Is there anyway to change the order that the DVD will select which next?

Just catching up with this thread as I have the same problem -- scene selection does not go in the order of the chapters (12) made in FCP and exported as a QT movie. It DOES work on DVD player, but not work on stand alone DVD players (I have 2) through a TV set. And, yes, I tried free positioning to move the scenes around to conform with the pattern iDVD seemed to want but that didn't help either. The pattern of selection seems random, every time I press on the remote it might go: scene 1, scene 4, next page arrow, scene 2, scene 1 and so on. And it seems to differ from one burned DVD to another.
HELP! I've been trying to solve this problem for three days.
    Thank you.

  • ITunes TV Shows are out of order in iPhone tab.

I've been importing a TV Show Season from DVD into iTunes so I can watch the TV show on my iPhone at the gym. Everything works well, the TV shows are imported, I enter the meta-data for each show, title, episode #, etc.... When I look at my TV shows in the TV Shows tab in the side bar, they are all listed in order by episode number. Yet when I go to the iPhone tab in the sidebar, and the select the TV Shows tab to try and sync, all of the episodes are random and in no particular order at all. Maybe I'm just being OCD about it, but I want to watch the seasons in order and now I have no way to do this? Anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks

Just discovered your post, I made a similar post with the same problem, only concerning Podcasts and not TV Shows. I don't think you're being OCD about it at all. It's only logical to expect that if you can put the songs of a music album in a certain order and listen to them that way, that you should be able to do the same with a TV show or Podcast series.
Check to make sure all of the following are set:
    Info tab: Track number
Video tab: Show, Season Number, Episode ID, Episode Number
The TV shows on my iPod are in the correct order, but the Podcasts are not. Unexpectedly, I think it may be the Track number from the info tab that keeps them in order. I just removed the track number from an episode and it went out of order.
