Podcast doesn't play in iTunes

Hello guys,
I have made a video podcast page. This is what I did:
- clicked File>New Page, then I did choose Podcast page template from iWeb library
- changed text
- dragged and dropped my own video clip (.m4v QT which is supported format for apple TV)
from my desktop into the template's video well
- clicked Publish to the folder (inputing my website URL before publishing)
- testing from my desktop was good
- copied and pasted all files generated by iWeb from my folder onto my website (using Fetch)
- opened Safari, everything works fine, video is playing from my webpage fine
- subscribed to the podcast
- iTunes opens, but video does not play
So is there any additional step I have missed?

Yeah, I think what's happening is that when you subscribe, it's downloading the file. When playing through the store, it's streaming it. I believe it has to do with how the mime types are configured on our web server, although I definitely could be wrong about that. I'm still investigating how the videos were encoded, but I don't think that's the issue.

I've used Feedburner many times and never had such a problem. I am a bit confused, forgive me if I ask for questions already answerd. Have you tried updating the podcast in someone elses copy of iTunes? My guess is that the file is bad since it is working in other programs but not iTunes. I would try making a new .mp4 file and podcasting it and seeing if that works.
    Good luck!

  • Podcasts won't play in iTunes or in iPad/iPhone

Hey so I'm having a lot of trouble getting some of my Podcasts to play,
My university records and saves lectures online through echo360 and last semester I was able to set them all up as podcasts so they'd come to my ipad/iphone and laptop! I tried to set it up to do it today and it wouldn't work. After hours of extensively looking through forums/discussions on here, I found this one:
Re: Why won't my podcasts play in iTunes?
Which seems to address a similar problem. After looking into it, it seems as though my university has changed the link from being http:// to https:// and perhaps that's why it's not playing?
So my main question is, is there any way around this/any way to change it from https to http to make it play? Or, alternatively, is there any other explanation that could be responsible for them not playing?
Sorry, I'm not very tech savvy and not sure if I've worded this very well but it's worth a shot!
    Thanks

The current (nearly) all 64-bit version of iTunes doesn't integrate with QuickTime. If you have content that needs QuickTime on your system then uninstall iTunes and all supporting components, then install the version of iTunes found here: iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) and reinstall QuickTime. The "for older video cards" release is a 64-bit installer for the core 32-bit iTunes application, similar to all 64-bit releases of iTunes prior to 12.1 and will work with QuickTime.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates if you have problems uninstalling or reinstalling components.

  • Doesn't play songs, "itunes is not configured for use with mac-formatted"??

Hi, new ipod shuffle. Seems to charge fine, all indicator lights function as expected. Everything looks fine in itunes. But it doesn't play songs. I have the most recent versions of itunes and the ipod software. Re-set, updated, and restored, nothing works. Even restored using the restore utility. Re-started computer. Checked for volume control. Won't play songs. Tried different file types. Songs play fine from itunes library and from the device's library within itunes. Tried different headphones. Hooked it up to computer speakers. Turning volume all the way up on device and speakers, heard some very faint rhythmic static, so my guess is the jack socket (or whatever you call it) is just messed up, but it seems weird that it can transfer power and data to the device but doesn't work for sound...
The only other issues that have come up is that the drive disappears in explorer once it syncs with itunes. Other people who've noticed this seem to have completely different problems so I don't think it's related.
Also, I have MacDrive on my computer. And when it starts up with the ipod plugged in, MacDrive offers the message "Itunes is not configured for use with Mac-formatted ipods." It offers to automatically reconfigure itunes so it can read mac-formatted ipods. Since I've restored the device, I don't see why formatting should be an issue so I say "no."
Should I try letting macdrive do its format thing? Should I try formatting the ipod disk on the My Computer menu? Or should I just email apple and tell them the jack's busted?
    Thanks for any thoughts!

Well, I have had my iPod for about 3 years, it is a 4th generation non-video 40 GB. One day it just stopped working, and now it does not play any songs. when I turn it on it makes this odd whirring sounds that computers make when they try really hard to do something. I cannot charge it, and it is not recognized by iTunes. Also when I turn it on, I get the apple.com/ipod/support (or whatever it is) screen. Needless to say, my warranty is expired, and so I cannot do anything for it except get a new battery, or buy a new one. Is there any way to fix this problem, or anyone out there who is experiencing the same thing?
I'm having the exact same problem with my wife's iPod. However it will play about 3 seconds of a song and go onto the next song.
If there is anyone out there that can help please do!

  • M4v doesn't play in iTunes

Hi. I have an m4v file type that will not play in iTunes. I have opened with iTunes (default) but it just don't play. I have tried manually importing, yet nothing happens. Someone please help me. Thanks.

Quicktime / iTunes / Apple TV throw up a lot of errors with M4V / MP4 files that other media players do not.
I recommend downloading VLC as it is a much better media player than quicktime. If your file plays in that it is more than likely something simple with the Meta Data or chapters that is causing the error.
To fix the M4V file without having to transcode, I recommend downloading Metadata Hootenanny (FREE) from http://www.applesolutions.com/bantha/MH.html
Using that, add a movie chapter (VIEW > CHAPTERS) and save the file. It should save the file within a .mov container fairly quickly with the same quality video. You only need to save one chapter (more if you want) as iTunes stalls if it cant find chapter references in the M4V files. That .MOV file can be imported into iTunes and played on an Apple TV.
More errors with MP4 files that cannot be imported into iTunes can be fixed by simply remaning the file extension from .mp4 to .m4v
MP4 file that give the error " invalid public atom " when opened with iTunes can be fixed using VLC. Open the video with VLC and FILE > STREAMING/EXPORT WIZZARD
Select Transcode / Save to file, then select video from existing playlist item. Ensure the video / audio transcode options are UNTICKED as you only want to quickly change the container to .mov
Save the file and iTunes will be able to play / import.

  • Podcasts show up/play in iTunes but do NOT sync to the iPod - help!

    Hi,
I can download and play the strongbad emails podcasts in iTunes. But when I tell itunes to sync it to the iPod, it says 'update' complete, but then no data is actually transferred to the iPod. I read the instructions for how to sync podcasts, and I am doing it exactly right (and my music is syncing fine). It's very weird.
One thing worth noting is that when I go to the 'sync podcasts' screen, and select 'all podcasts', the podcasts are grayed out (as though it isn't recognizing them as podcasts, even though I downloaded them from the apple store). But then if i select them manually, they are black again and I can select them-- however, as I said, when I try to sync them, no data gets transferred. My best guess is that for some reason iTunes is not recognizing them as being able to be sync'd. Can anyone help?

I am having similar problems. My iPod says that the podcasts are on there but when I got to listen there is nothing. Any help will be great!

  • ATV 3 doesn't play non iTunes 1080p video via Airport Router

Please advise what could be the problem. I was using a Zyxel nbg460 router and it was paying nice probably converted from MKV movies in 1080p, loading hem almost instantly and playing without a problem. But when I hooked up Airport Extreme 5-th gen, it stoped playing them. It buffers and buffers and nothing happens. Altough It plays 720p really nice. Help me please, because I bought 2 more Airport Express for extending wifi over my house, but it doesn't work.... Plugged back old router and it is all playing nice. The cause of change is that Zyxel restarts very often by itself...

  • New Synced Podcast doesn't play from start

So I sync up new podcast that is downloaded to my itouch 2nd gen. When I disconnect I start to play the new podcast,
however it doesnt start at 0:00, instead it sometimes start at 2 mins, 30 mins or last few mins. I haven't touched the podcast in
itunes or on my itouch except when I first launched it.
My old podcast, sometimes I haven't finished listening to it and sync up with the new unplayed podcasts every friday.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
    thanks

repairing permissions didn't change anything. It crashes when i go to the itunes store, downloads, or genius. There are other times when it crashes too.
try booting your Mac into _*safe mode*_ and launch iTunes while in it. does the problem persist ?
also, create a new (temporary) user account, log into that, and launch iTunes. what happens ?
I've read bad things about 10.6.4. I am scared to try without having a backup first.
yes, backing up is a good idea
however, the combo updater is a different beast vs. the one you get via software update. it will find and replace corrupted files, or insert missing components. it might just fix your crash problems.
I don't have the external drive available at the moment, but as far as I know, it's the entire library
well, the question is where is the iTunes library file ? this is what an entire iTunes folder looks like. it contains the music (or media) folder and e.g. the library file etc.
if your entire iTunes folder (which contains the library file) is on the external, just copy it from the external to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the MBP, overwriting the iTunes folder in place there.
or copy the *library file* from the PowerMac's iTunes folder to the MBP's iTunes folder.

  • My podcast doesn't appear on Itunes search

It has been 4 days now since I created my podcast and it still does not appear on Itunes search, nor does it appear when attemtping to browse for it under the categories and subcategories section. my podcast feed was validated so there doesn't appear to be anything wrong, and the image link is correct for the cover art...can anyone help?? Or do I have to wait a month till it finally shows up?

It can take quite a long time. It's not possible to comment further without knowing the details of your podcast.

  • Can't preview podcast (doesn't play)

We just uploaded our podcasts to iTunes 2 days ago.  All the files are there, but when you click on the small play button to preview them nothing happens.  If I click on "View In iTunes" they play fine.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

  • Podcasts won't play in iTunes

    Hi folks,
There are two issues, one serious less so for the new version of iTunes 7.0 for XP.
The serious problem is that for reasons that are unclear, *no podcasts* will play! I've tried everything, but I am at a total loss. In the previous version, iTunes would just download stuff and I can play it, now, nothing. It acts as if there is nothing there. Is there something I need to do in iTunes that will allow me to play? Can I go back to a previous version?
The second issue is that in the previous version there was a tab called "entire library" where I could go in and delete played podcasts manually. Now, I can't do that and have to wait till the update takes it out OR even worse go into each org's podcast, click on the triangle and delete the old episodes. How can I get an entire library tab back onto the

well, since I stumped the iTunes people on my problem, I'd still like an answer to my second question-- in the last version of iTunes I was able to easily delete old podcasts from the library. How can I do that now???

  • Podcast doesn't Appear in iTunes Search

    Hello to all,
Like many I am experiencing this very anoying problem.
My podcast was accepted by Apple on the 1st of January.
    I was sent this phobos:
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=271148581
But after more than a month, I still can't find my Channel in the iTunes Search and I triple checked that both the channel and the items have tags and they do.
    My feed location is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/AirPodbyAirDrop
I really don't know what else to do. So please help !
    Thanks

Thanks Roger. That's not the answer I wanted to hear, but it may be the truth.
I don't understand why they would even have a <itunes:keywords> field if it never really gets used?
Also- I've found that the search returns favor the title of the episode. For instance, if you search for 'Georgia Tech', my podcast will come up because we had 'Georgia Tech' in the name of one of our podcasts.
    Very strange....
I also think it might have something to do with feedburner's handeling of the xml code.
I'd appreciate any more suggestions. Thanks!

  • Podcast doesn't update on itunes

I have created a video podcast for my family to download videos that I have posted. They have been able to double click on the default rss button to load the feed into itunes. However, itunes does not update the rss feed. I have even tried to reimport an updated rss feed. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Not sure what the problem is, but first try to select the Podcasts area of the iTunes library, in the blue navigation bar on the left side of iTune. See if the podcast is there.
Also, there are some podcast preferences you can mess with in iTunes. Try that, too.

  • Videos and video podcasts won't play in iTunes

When ever I try to play a movie from either a podcast or a TV show, it will play about 1 second, stall, the "beach-ball" appears, the audio plays for that one second of video, then repeats. I am running a G3 iMac but before I updated to 10.4 (had 10.2) and videos played normally. Just wondering if there was any way to fix it.
(On a side note, after I updated OS X, online quicktime movies play the same way)

Andrew, have you tried re-installing QuickTime? That might fix it. Download it from Apple:

  • For the last 2 weeks my podcast doesn't appear in iTunes

It's weird 'cause I've been with my podcast 2 years and I haven't had a problem like that.
You can find my podcast here: http://elrincondelfanatico.tumblr.com
The RSS feed is this one: http://elrincondelfanatico.tumblr.com/rss
The Feedburner address is this one: http://feeds.feedburner.com/ElRinconDelFanatico
I can't seem to understand what's going on, could you help me please?

I don't have experience of the various alternatives - I used Podcast Maker when I was running my podcast (it's not a blogging program, just podcasting) but I believe it's flaky with Mountain Lion.
WordPress is popular and can work well, but it's complicated and causes more questions on here than any other platform, so expect a steep learning curve. Blogger seems popular - I dislike it because the feed is all on one line and so pretty well impossible to read, but that needn't concern you. It can work well, but again you have to do everything correctly or it will fall over (though that's true in all cases).
Tumblr itself may well be OK, it's just that you haven't been using it correctly. Your earlier episodes are OK.
