Podcast downloads - wrong folders used?

Using iTunes 7.6.2.9
I subscribe to a podcast and new episodes are picked up and downloaded automatically.
Instead of being stored in the Podcasts folder though, the files are stored in the standard Artist name -> Album name structure.
What this means is that when I click on the episode in the podcast view itunes complains it can't find it, and I have to either manually copy the file back into the podcast folder or tell itunes where to find it.
Surely this can't be right? Anyone got any idea whats happening here?

Any ideas anyone?

It's better to post the URL of the feed (as you have subsequently done) than the contents of the feed .
From the FeedValidator report the feed is basically OK for iTunes. There are several occasions where 'content:encoded' sections (following immediately on 'guid' tags) should be enclosed in
    <description>...</description>
tags: however all this will be ignored by iTunes anyway and only applies to other readers. The 'potentially dangerous content' referred to by FeedValidator is within the 'content:encoded' tags and so isn't relevant to iTunes. They are referring to an inline css style, and I don't know whether this might cause a problem elsewhere.
You should really have a language tag, e.g.
    <language>en-us</language>
(you have a dc:language tag but that's for a different system). This should be placed in the top section, before the first 'item' tag.
It's advisable to have an 'itunes:explicit' tag for each 'item' -
<itunes:explicit>yes IF CONTAINS ADULT MATERIAL, OTHERWISE no</itunes:explicit>
it's not compulsory if you have no adult material, but you must have a 'yes' if you do.
You can check your feed by subscribing in iTunes from the 'Advanced' menu - this has the same result as clicking the 'Subscribe' button on the Store page. If it works OK there you are ready to submit it.

  • ITunes 11.1: a podcast downloads; I don't want to listen to it and delete it; it downloads again. Help me break the cycle!

My routine for years: download all new episodes of all the podcasts I subscribe to (a pretty big list!). I then delete the new episodes that don't particularly interest me. But now, with iTunes 11.1, any podcast episodes that I delete will download again - and if I delete them, they download again. And so on. I don't mean they're just appearing in the list with the little cloud icon: I mean they're moving on to my computer. (Note that this only seems to be happening with podcast episodes that have been added since the update to 11.1 - thank goodness it's not happening to all of them!)
Probably related: if I want to keep a podcast episode, I've always just changed the tags to "Audiobook" or "Music", so I can get it out of the Podcast panes. But now, if I do that, the episode downloads again (despite the retagged version existing elsewhere in iTunes), and I delete it again, and back into that loop.
What seems to fix this: I can mark the redundantly downloaded episode as played, and then delete. This requires a lot of clicks with my current workflow: mark as played in the "Unplayed" list, at which point they of course disappear from the list; then find the episodes somewhere else (no longer easy with the obnoxious "Show us EVERYTHING!" podcast list view), and erase them once again. If need be, I guess I could set up a smart playlist to make this easier, but this looks like a pretty obnoxious kludge for something that used to be quite straightforward.
But am I missing something? How can I easily delete a podcast episode that I don't want, without it redownloading again later? For episodes that I want to retag and keep, is there a way to stop them from redownloading?
EDIT: Oops. No, I was wrong. If I mark it as played, and then delete it, the episode STILL comes back. It downloads yet again. What on earth am I doing wrong?!

per your recommendation, I have sent the feedback below to apple...
For my Podcasts, I have exclusively used the "List" view to manage my podcast library... which one to download, save, or delete.  The new update to iTunes has made the "List" view unusable in completing these tasks.
Can you address this issue?  Right now my list view is filled with previously heard & deleted podcasts.  I like to use this view rather than going to a different sheet for each podcast to which I've subscribed to manage.
Please help. Please revert the "List" view to be managed as before.  Thank you.
    Hopefully Apple will be responsive.

  • Podcast Download Error -39

This has happened to me three times now. When I am in the middle of downloading a podcast, my computer has either frozen or lost internet connection, so the podcast download gets interrupted. Once I restart, or reconnect to the internet, and go back to the list of podcasts, the one I was downloading is grayed out. I push the "Get" button next it and I get this error message: 'There was a problem downloading (said podcast). An unknown error occurred (-39). Please check that the URL is correct and the connection to the network is active and try again.' I have tried resubscribing to the podcast and even reinstalling iTunes. I didn't know if maybe there was a partial file saved somewhere that is making iTunes think there's still a problem. I don't know where to look for that though. Anyone else had this problem before or know what I should do to fix it??

Okay, I had the exact same problem. I restarted by computer during the middle of a podcast download because my computer froze. In order to fix this, (I'm using a windows XP now):
    1. Go to the start menu.
    2. Click on search.
    3. On the left menu, click on all files and folders.
    4. Type the episode name of the podcast.
    5. Results should come up.
    6. Click on the folder that is named after the podcast episode.
    7. Delete the two files located in the folder. (2 in my case, they were named download and something else I can't remember)
    8. Retry your download.
    9. There you go, you got your podcast!

  • 2.2 Podcast download: errors on 2/3 podcasts I try to download

    Anyone else seen this?
I tried to download a podcast (Stack Overflow podcast) through the iTunes Store on my iPhone and it gave me a Download Error right away.
I tried to download another one (Ruby on Rails podcast) and it downloaded the whole file (progress bar got to 100%) and then gave another download error.
I tried some of random podcasts and managed to download some other ones. But I'd quite like to have these.
    Any thoughts?
    Dan

My podcasts download just fine, however they seem to be in the wrong format. Some enhanced audio files are playing as videos. I've reported the problem to the iTunes store (see pasted below), but I wanted to flag it to see if others are having the same problem:
With the most recent iPhone update (2.2), it's great having the ability to download podcasts. However, playback of enhanced audio podcasts has been causing problems. For some enhanced podcasts, they play back as they used to, providing access to chapter markers in the top right corner, and allowing the screen to be turned off while still playing the audio. Other enhanced podcasts now seem to show up as videos, with a small tv screen icon showing up next to the episode name, the chapter markers accessible via a button at the bottom of the screen, and I am unable to play back the audio show with the screen off (much as most of the rest of the videos work). I haven't yet been able to find a difference between these enhanced audio files, all seem to be file format .m4a, some encoded with Garage Band, some encoded with Podcast Maker.
    Some examples:
This Week in Media 117 (shows up as video)
gdgt 013 (shows up as video)
The Lost Podcast with Jay and Jack AAC Ep. 3.37 (shows up as video)
MacCast eMacCast 2008.12.01 (shows up as enhanced audio)
This change started with iPhone software update 2.2, and has unfortunately rendered many of my podcasts useless unless I keep the screen active.
Additionally, another related change that was made with iPhone software update 2.0, was that, much like on the iPods, video podcasts could be viewed as a video, or listened to as only audio. On iPhone software version 1.1.4 and earlier, you had the choice to listen to a video podcast (which allowed you to turn the screen off) when accessing the podcast in the podcast section of the player, or as a video with the screen when accessing all videos in the player. Since 2.0, all video podcasts accessed from the podcast section play as videos. I understand the reasoning for this, as it may seem more straight forward to some users, but it has decreased the functionality of the player app. It'd be great if functionality were restored via a system preferences option to enable listening-only to video podcasts.
One other person has found the problem here as well:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8591047#8591047
Anyone else experiencing this? Might be similarly tied to these podcasting errors?

  • Podcasts download in Music section

    HELP!
When I download a non-iTunes podcast(s) it downloads into my Music section and not into the Podcast section. I used a URL address and it listed one main Topic in the Podcast section, but does not list all of the podcasts individually. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Episodes downloaded outside iTunes do not go into podcast listing. This is has been this way for several versions.
To see individual podcast episodes, left click on the blue triangle to left of podcast title when in podcast area.

  • Podcast Download Window

I subscribe to numerous podcasts. When I refresh my subscribed to Podcast Window,
there is a download reference in the left sidebar when clicked opens a download window. I use this download window to organize the manner into which playlist the podcasts will go. If I happen to click away from this download window, it is lost forever. There is no way to retrieve it. Is there? Losing this window forces me to return to the subscribe list and scroll to retrieve most recent downloads by date, and memory. I'd most prefer to return to the most recent downloads in the download window. iTunes 10.1

There is no way to recover the download window. Use smart playlists, you can probably achieve what you are doing automatically using smart playlists to gather your new episodes into the lists you want.
If you still want to manage them on your own use a smart playlist to gather the new episodes which will probably duplicate the Download window. A smart playlist with set to match all rules, media kind is podcasts, and date add is in the last 1 day should help. Adding playcount is 0 may also be beneficial to remove any that have been played and still fall into the other rules. Once the playlist is created make sure it contains the Date Added column and sort it using it. Unfortunately there is no rule to tighten up the date added, a rule for the last one hour would be even better for you.

  • Problem with my podcast downloading to iTunes

The last 2 days, my podcast http://www.rippernet.com/Rippercast/Podcast/Podcast.html has been unable to be downloaded via the iTunes Music Store. People can subscribe ok and have the episodes downloaded into iTunes but cannot get it via it's Music Store page. I get the error message "There was a problem downloading 'Rippercast-Your Podcast on the Jack the Ripper Murders'. The URL http://www.rippernet.com/Site/Podcast/rss.xml" could not be found on the server." It worked fine for roughly month up until this.
I use iWeb and iDisk with a dotmac account for my podcast.
Yesterday I used Dreamweaver to add a line into the rss feed for Music Store artwork, but was having problems a day before this.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Jonathan

I've gone into the rss.xml file located on my idisk at Web/Sites/RC/Podcast and edited it in Dreamweaver to input the 'itunes new feed url' script to match the one that itunes says it cannot find.
What seems to have happened is that my Url was changed somehow from "rippernet/Site Podcast" to "rippernet/rippercast/podcast/podcast"
Is this the right rss.xml file I edit for the iTunes Music Store? Does it just take a while for iTunes M.S. to refresh?
Is there any support for helping mac podcasters deal with these iWeb-iDisk-iTunes Music Store issues? I don't even know if the problem is on my end or lies with iTunes. I'd rather not tinker anymore with the rss.xml file if I'm not even sure the rss feed is the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I record 2 podcasts this weekend and the next 4 weeks are booked with guests.
    Thanks

  • Can no longer play podcasts downloaded on itunes on 2nd generation shuffle, is there a fix?

Ever since the latest version of itunes was unleased (Apple is so going downhill if this is any indication) my ipod Shuffle 2nd generation (I have 2) will not play podcasts downloaded on itunes. I get orange, green, orange, green lights and then nothing - because the ipod cannot recognize the files apparently. They both do the same thing, I load, they show up as loaded on itunes, I press play, the lights. If I download the podcast from the originator site directly, they play no problem. I have the latest update for the Shuffles, have reset them numerous times and yet the problem persists. I only use these Shuffles to load podcasts daily. I remove them as soon as I listened and then put new podcasts on the next day. Why do I have 2? Because I bought a second one when this started and I thought the Shuffle was broken - now both act exactly the same. Even old podcasts that played fine months ago will not play on the shuffle any longer. Is there any fix? I assume someone else is a podcast listener and is having this same problem and maybe has a solution.

Switch the mode to single plat, not shuffle.

  • How to put my podcasts into playlist folders? Can't drag'em.

How to put my podcasts into playlist folders? Can't drag'em.
I've subscribed to a number of podcasts & they appear in my iTunes window under the Podcasts section.
    There i have
    2 problems:
1st: I can't rearrange or group them so can listen consecutively to different topics.
I must listen to one, then come to the keyboard and select the next to start playing. Now, I know that I can get them to play consecutively once I've placed them into Playlist folders,
but that brings me to my second problem:
    2) I can't drag and drop them into separate iTunes FOLDERS (by topics).
(Though I have been able to drag&drop separate items from my 'Music' section into iTunes playlist folders.)
But can't drag from Podcasts section into Playlists,
as everytime I try they just refuse to go in and scurry back to their starting position under Podcasts.
    Zupwidiss? This can't be.
I would be grateful for your solution.
And also grateful if I could have easily found the solution explained
before I had to resort to bothering this forum with this question.
Just using my MacMini, Snow Lep.

    Thanks very much.
    You have reminded of the
    difference between
    Playlists and Playlist Folders:
One can only drag things from the Master list into PLAYLISTS.
And can only drag Playlists into Playlist Folders.
I'm an older man, and easily confused by these things.
Many thanks to my friend in Germany.
    P.S. Your English is excellent.

  • What kind of server power needed for 500 simultanious podcast downloads?

OK I run a VBulletin forum
We have average 500+ people on line at the same time, some times as many as 750..
I want to do some podcasting at the time of a trade show, relating to the forums topic.
What I DONT want is for the forum and server to grind to a halt because we suddenly get a lot of 'pull' / bandwith use because of podcast download / streaming.
Is there anywhere i can go to get info on the tech / server requirements for podcasts and the load they put on servers?
    Thanks v much in advance!

I would suggest just hosting your MP3 files on libsyn
    http://www.libsyn.com
They are setup to handle a lot of podcast bandwidth.
Remember there is no need to host your MP3 files where you have your main site - Just the XML (Rss Feed) should be on your main site.

  • Tracking podcast download with feedburner feed?

Hello, I'd like to track the amount of downloads of my itunes podcast. If I use a feedburner feed for my itunes podcast feed will feedburner track the amount of times the podcast is downloaded in itunes?
    thanks

I believe that FeedBurner does offer this sort of facility but it's something you would need to take up with them. I'm sure their web site will shower you with this sort of information.

Yes.. I downloaded the ECN.XML file from se80, edited and then used "Uplload and replace"..
Also I did the same thing to add some more vocabulary in the cfx text XML, so that it would reflect correctly to map with Additional attributes in the PDX profile.
