Podcast episode name change...?

How do I change the name listed for my podcast? in the isting it's taken the name of the original blog post (which I wasn't aware that it did). I've since changed that blog entry's title to fit what I want it to say, but iTunes has not updated the Name. Does this take time or will I be stuck with the original title name? Can I delete the blog post and then repost it- will iTunes remove it if I delete the original blog entry?
*NOTE: podcast in question is for Raptor Quest

Go into the text of your RSS feed and try changing it there, where it says:
<channel>
<title>THE NAME OF YOUR SHOW</title>
change the "THE NAME..." inbetween the title controls. You may want to ping iTunes after that, or the change may take a little while.

  • Changing podcast album name??

    Hi all,
I created a podcast about two months ago. However, I've recently decided I need to reformat the name, and the album name.
Old Album Name: Regeneration - The Epistle of 1st Peter Series
New Album Name: Regeneration - The First Epistle of Peter Series
I went through and changed all my .mp3 files to reflect the new change, and then also updated the.xml file for the feed.
While all 10 of the episodes are appearing in one feed within my iTunes application (for Windows) under the new name, when I go to my Music library within Windows 7 File Manager, there are now two different directories. One uses the original album name, while the other uses the newer name.
Next, I unsubscribed, and deleted the feed off my laptop computer, and then resubscribed. However, it's still not creating one physical directory.
What is the proper procedure to change a podcast album name, and get that information into the iTunes Music Store so that all episodes are in the newer named album directory?
I made the change approximately eight 10 hours ago, so I know iTunes has had the time to crawl through the .xml and update their feed.
    Thanks!
    Robert

You're misunderstanding what I said earlier though.
I went ahead and completely REMOVED the feed out of my local copy of iTunes. After unsubscribing, I deleted the now empty local folder within File Explorer. In essence, my copy of iTunes shouldn't know that I ever subscribed to the podcast feed.
I then subscribed again to the feed. Logically, it should create a brand new folder within Windows because the feed only references the new album name. HOWEVER, two albums are still being created locally on my computer, with the folders being populated with the pre-change album names/files.
    Hope that's more clear.
    Thanks for writing back.

  • Podcast Name Change Questions

    Hello,
I've had an all-Canadian Music Podcast out for a year now and it's done well for a small podcast. However, I've decided to make some changes in hopes of reaching more listeners and a name change is being considered. I have a few concerns before doing this, so hopefully you guys can help.
Over the past year the show has surprisingly received 74 ratings and a lot of really nice reviews in iTunes. It has also found it's place in the iTunes "What's Hot" section and has stayed there for 6 months or so now. My concern with a name change is loosing ratings/reviews and the feature in What's Hot. It takes a lot of hard work to get recognition in iTunes and I don't want to throw away a year of efforts that made these small victories happen.
So, will changing the name have any effect in iTunes?
I use Libsyn as my host server and from there, changing the name is a simple process. I just want to make sure things won't change drastically in iTunes.
Thank you in advance for your help with this question!
    Cheers!
    Mike

There shouldn't be any problems. There may be a bit of a delay before the change appears in the Store but it won'ot affect anything - the basic identifier of the podcast is its ID number.

  • New Podcast Episode Not Updating in iTunes

    Hello Apple Community,
My name is Sara Simms, I have recently started a new DJ podcast series called Flight. My new episode has not updated yet in the iTunes store (its been over three days since I uploaded it)
My podcast episodes are hosted here:
    http://sarasimms.blogspot.ca
    My Feedburner URL is:
    feed://feeds.feedburner.com/sarasimmsflightofficialpodcast
I also uploaded new artwork via Feedburner, in the 'Podcast' section of iTunes I see the artwork has updated.
However, in the iTunes store itself, the new artwork is not displayed. Here is the link to my iTunes podcast:
    http://bit.ly/VM8tcF
I just pinged Feedburner, hopefully this helps to update everything.
Could anyone else please let me know if there's anything else I should check/change to make sure my podcast episodes are updating?
    Thank you in advance!
    Best wishes,
    Sara Simms

Your second episode has a media file referenced at http://sarasimms.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/flight_episode_two
This works when the URL is entered in a browser, but at the URL has no extension (.mp3) iTunes does not see it as being a media file and thus does not display the episode. You need to give a full URL including the extension, as you have done for your first episode.
You are mixing episodes with and without media files - there are a lot of earlier episodes which don't have media files - these won't show in iTunes. If blogger limits the number of episodes shown in the feed, these will count towards that limit which could result in episodes not showing in iTunes once you have added enough episodes to trigger the limit.

  • I add a podcast in music, change the type to Podcast, and it disappears

Eventually these seem to show up again, but it's very annoying. I add a podcast because I want to listen to it now... I am on Windows 7 with iTunes 10.
I can try to add it again, but it never shows up. It's like iTunes thinks it's already added it, but it's invisible in both Music and Podcasts.

    marilyndw wrote:
I download a podcast into my music folder on my hard drive.
iTunes downloads Podcasts. What you have downloaded is not a Podcast.
    marilyndw wrote:
I go into iTunes and use File->Add File to Library.
If it was delivered to you as a Podcast, you would not need to do this.
    marilyndw wrote:
Using the "Get Info" option, I change the "Media Kind" to be Podcast (it is set as Music).
    It then vanishes from iTunes
As I said previously, simply changing the Media Kind to Podcast does not make it a Podcast. However, since you have done that, the file, whatever it is, will move to the Podcasts section of your iTunes Library. In the Podcasts section, it should be listed by its album title. So the "Album title" in the Music section, will become the "Programme name" in Podcasts, listed under the heading Podcasts and with an arrow next to it. Click on the arrow and the list will expand to reveal the "episodes". The "episode's" name will be the song title.
I'll say it again. A Podcast is something that has been delivered to your iTunes by the delivery method known as Podcasting. The file itself is not "a Podcast". So when someone says "you're listening to our Podcast", it's actually a shorthand way of saying "you're listening to the programme we made, and which has been delivered to you as a Podcast."
So, to find these missing files in your iTunes, use the search facility and look in the Podcasts section of your iTunes Library for the song name. In the results that appear you will not see the song name, because what you see is the "Programme name". You need to expand each result to find your song or whatever it is.
The reason you have trouble adding it a second time is just that, you've already added it. But you've then changed some of the information about the file and when you try to "add it again" it is no longer "music", but a "Podcast", and that's because you set it that way.
I still don't understand why you feel the need to change the file to Podcast.
If this material is described by its producer as a Podcast, the why don't you find the Podcast through the iTunes Store and subscribe and download it through iTunes "as a Podcast"? If the programme truely is not to be found in the iTunes Store (by using search the store), then presumably the producer has the Podcast URL (or Podcast Feed, or the RSS link) shown on their website. You can copy-and-paste that Podcast URL into your iTunes Podcasts section and subscribe (for free, usually) to the Podcast, in iTunes. Then every new epsisode of the Programme will automatically download to your iTunes, put itself into your iTunes Podcasts Library and if you have set your iPod to Sync Podcasts, iTunes will also add that Podcast episode to your iPod.
At the moment, you appear to be making extra and uneccessary work for yourself.
And if this material is not actually a Podcast, then why try to make it so? What are you trying to achieve? You can listen to it, even when it's Media Kind is Music. If you're trying to stop it from playing when playing your music on shuffle, then leave it as Media Kind/Music but set it to Skip on shuffle.

  • How to manage podcast episodes by: marking favorites, writing notes, etc.

I realize this is probably only a dream, but I would love a Podcasts app in which I could mark certain episodes within a station I listen to as *favorite* so that I could come back to these favorite episodes from time to time and review their content.  What would be really cool is if I could not only mark them as favorites but also write a small note to myself as to the main info points from the podcast episode, so that when reviewing things, I could find what I am looking for easier.  Since I glean information from the many podcasts I listen to for business purposes, having a library of the single best episodes (an acompanying notes) would really enhance my podcast experience.
Is there any way to do this with the Podcasts app?
Is there a different app I should explore for this?
Does itunes support something like this (or for that matter any other type of app for my iphone 5)?
    Thanks much.

i dont know how the programs work, the ftp and rss updater and whatever, but if u use feedburner, or u can change what the name of the file it edits is, or u can create a .htacess that roots it, just stick all old episodes under what it updates in the file iWeb will update and when it updates, new episodes go on top

  • Podcast episodes will not download from podcast stream

I have set up a podcast on my website to download sermons. I created the xml file which I tested in my feeds section of my browser. The xml file works perfectly there in that all the episodes are listed with thier respective audio files. If you click on the actual audio file it downloads the way that it should and plays. I copied the xml file location and went into Itunes and chose subdcribe to a pod cast. It asked for the url which I pasted the xml file location. Itunes displayed all of my episodes the way that it should. The problem then starts. When I click on an episode to download the audio file the episode name flashes for a second or 2 in the window on top and then nothing. The audio file will not download on any of the episodes. It lists them all but other then that I can't do anything with them. My xml file location is: http://www.stpaulsconway.org/stpaulssermons.xml What could I possibly be doing wrong?

Glad to hear that you have solved your problem.

  • My podcast cover art image has been replaced by the Wordpress bluberry thumbnail in iTunes? Can anyone please help tell me what to do? I made a cover art to the right spec and added it to my podcast episodes in my iTunes library

The cover art does not show on My iTunes library even when I'm playing it. The cover art does not show in Word press either when you open it on a laptop. But I think I used a feed burner for the podcast and that's why the word press done now has come up. My question is that iTunes have Successfully I did my podcast however my son now is not my heart and I need to change that. Can anybody here please help me? I think it has something to do with the feed burner or potentially the way I have uploaded. I uploaded the podcast directly into WordPress I did not use any other hosting sites like libsyn.

I don't quite understand why you have asked me about why I'm keeping my URL secret?
It's only that I'm not clear why you are reluctant to post it. If you have a podcast in the iTunes Store then it's there for the world to see - they might search on its subject or title, for example, even if they don't actually know about it from you. If you look at other posts in this forum you will see that usually people post their URLs and then I can examine the feed and hopefully find out from that what the problem is. Without this information no-one can give you anything more than wild guesses.
If you are still reluctant to post the details and want to have a bash at diagnosing the problem yourself you may find my web pages helpful:

  • Removing podcast episodes from iTunes 12 but keeping the files

I want to be able to remove a podcast episode from iTunes 12 but keep the audio file on my computer. This used to be an option, but now I am no longer asked if I want to keep the file. It's just automatically moved to the Trash. I like to archive podcast episodes on my external drive, but I don't always feel like getting the drive out when I'm done listening, plugging it in and dragging and dropping the files. I'm lazy like that. I would keep the episodes I plan to archive on iTunes until I feel like breaking out the drive, except that brings me to my second issue: my podcasts seem to all be set to automatically delete played episodes after 24 hours, at least depending on what view I'm in. I have "Delete Played Episodes" set to "Off" in my default podcast settings, and when I context click a podcast in the "My Podcasts" view and select "Podcast Settings" it says "Delete Played Episodes" is "Off". However when I go to the Playlists view, select an episode and click the "Settings..." button at the bottom, it always says the selected podcast has "Delete Played Episodes" set to "On", even if I click to change it to "Off" in that view. So there's obviously a contradiction there. I don't want to take the chance that my played episodes will be automatically deleted so the sooner I get them off iTunes the better. Unfortunately that means deleting them, then dragging them from Trash back to the iTunes Media/Podcasts folder and into each appropriate podcast folder, which is annoying. Please tell me that the removal of the "Keep the file" option is just a bug. If Apple is, for whatever reason, trying to discourage me from moving my played episodes out of iTunes and onto another drive, then I'm just going to stop using iTunes altogether.

The iTunes Store reads your feed at intervals and caches the contents (the information, not the actual media files): when you make a change to the feed it usually takes 1-2 days for this to be reflected in the Store. Pinging doesn't seem to make a lot of difference. Very occasionally it all slows down and can take several days.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Podcast episodes not updating correctly in iTunes

    Hello,
I am having a problem with my podcast episodes not updating correctly in iTunes.  The last 5 episodes I published appeared in iTunes at the bottom of the episode list, as if they were old episodes--i.e., they appear as if they were the first 5 episodes published.  They also do not have a date assigned to them as the rest of the episodes do.  They were not distributed to podcast subscribers, possibly because iTunes is not recognizing them as new episodes.
Here is my podcast feed: http://ic.instantcustomer.com/instantcasts/feed/podcast/5047174b90f14efe542431c2 674b1bd9
And here is the link to my podcast in iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/small-business-marketing-minute/id896451432
The problem began with last Wednesday's episode, which was Episode 30, and has continued ever since.  I did not do anything differently when I published that episode than I did when I published the previous 29 episodes, and those updated just fine, or at least seemed to as far as I could tell (i.e., they appeared correctly on iTunes, and appeared as a new episode for me as a podcast subscriber).  Also, after examining the rss feed, I could not see any difference between episodes 1-29 and episodes 30--34, at least as far as the way the feed was formatted.  So, I have no idea what triggered the problem, and no idea how to fix it.  If I can't resolve the issue then I think I'll have to abandon the podcast, since there's no point in publishing a podcast that doesn't distribute new episodes to subscribers.
If anyone can shed light on this problem for me, it would be most appreciated.     Thanks!
    -Kevin

As you say, in the Store the latest episodes don't show a publishing date. When subscribing in iTunes, none of the episodes show a publishing date, and they are listed in the order they appear in the feed.
In the feed, none of your episodes has a 'pubDate' tag, which is where iTunes gets the date from. Since most of the episodes in the Store have a date, it looks as if originally your episodes had this tag, but that five episodes back you did something in whatever method you are using to create your feed which removed these tags: the Store is presumably getting the dates from its cache since the episodes haven't changed, but obviously doesn't have the dates for the last 5 episodes.

  • Podcast episodes are not showing up in iTunes

My podcast “Dimsum Mandarin” was submitted to iTunes on Aug 4, and all was well until these two weeks. Episode 8 was uploaded on Sep 4, but have yet to show up in the feed, as can be seen in the screen cap attached. A new episode 9 was also uploaded on Sep 11, and have not showed up so far either.
The feed is burned through feedburner at http://feeds.feedburner.com/DimsumMandarin-LearnMandarinChinese.
Subscriptions still seem to work though.
It would be greatly appreciated if any kind soul could point me in the right direction to solve this issue.
    Thanks lots!

well, i never got a reply directly to my question, but i was directed by email to post my problem within itunes... go to the podcast page of my podcast and then select "report a concern"... i always thought this was to report offensive podcasts, but if you click on that button you'll see a pull down list with a bunch of problems... i selected "difficulty downloading" and then explained the problem completely... as i said, i never heard back from anyone, but about 4 days later my podcast episode showed up... and this past wednesday we uploaded the latest episode and it showed up in the iTMS almost immediately... go figure?!
if anyone's interested, the podcast name is Schnauzer Logic and its comedy and talk and music and pop culture (i used to be the host of a morning show)... good for a giggle once a week for a couple of hours.

  • URL encoding special characters in episode name

    Hello,
    Configuration :
1 capture agent on a MAC MINI under MAC OS X 10.6.5
1 PCP2 server on an XServe under MAC OS X 10.6.5
I encounter this problem since 10.6.5 update :
When I stop a Podcast capture, if episode name is for example abcd#, '#' character is "URL encoded" to '%23' sequence. So the final file name of the podcast is abcd%23.m4v instead of abcd#.m4v.
This was not the case under 10.6.4.
I tried this solution : renaming the file adding a task in the workflow ; this task launches a bash script which renames all files replacing '%23' sequences by a '#' character.
Files are well renamed, but the task don't give hand back, and XGrid task never ends.
Got this error in /var/log/system.log :
    sandbox [nnn] : bash(12146) : deny file-ioctl /path/to/bash-script
    Thanks for help

    Problem solved !
I had a problem with rights on my podcasts directory.
So, for those who are interested, you can add a task to your workflow, for example a bash batch file which renames all files in your podcast directory whose name contains a special character :
    for fic in `ls`
    do
    mv $fic `echo $fic | sed -e s/%23/#/g`
    done
the additional workflow task must contain 2 items :
--- an item "command" of type String with the path of your batch file as value
--- an item "dependsOnTasks" of type array with an element of type string with "postflight" as value

  • ITunes 7 attempting to sync all Podcast episodes regardless of selection

I don't know if it's just me, but iTunes 7 seems to be ignoring which podcast episodes I have selected to sync and which I haven't, instead attempting to sync them all then erroring. I can get it to work if I only sync new episodes, but I like to keep favorites of previous 'casts as well. Is this an annoying functionality change, a bug, or did I just miss a change in how to achieve my previous configuration?
*Also wanted to add that this now removes partially played podcasts since they're no longer "unplayed", and the "10 most recent/unplayed" options means I can't load whole podcast books anymore.

I've got a separate thread running on this, which Derek also replied on (thanks for posting in both, Derek):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=637811&tstart=0
The solution Mark found is not working for me. After disabling "manually manage" to enable "sync checked", and then re-enabling "manually manage", it at first appears like "sync checked" will stay enabled. But after hitting the Apply button, "sync checked" turns off again.
