Podcast episode "Release date" problem

on iTunes podcast screen some of "A state of trance" episodes shiw the release date is 1/1/2001 but when i choose "get info" it shows the correct date for some but for another episodes it is showing "1/1/1904"!!! please help how to solve this so it shows the correct release date inorder to get the episodes sorted correctly

I assume you mean this podcast?
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/state-trance-official-podcast/id260190086?mt =2
(not one you've created yourself). The publishing date shows correctly in the iTunes Store and in iTunes when subscribing, but if you Get Info the 'Puchase date' is 1-1-04 - this is a default date because no date has been set. As you haven't actually purchased the episode it's irrelevant (it shows the purchased date on songs bought in the Store).
So where in iTunes are you seeing this? Are you using 'List' view or 'My Podcasts' view? The latter shows the release date, taken from the feed; in List view the Release Date column will show the correct date, but if you have the Purchased Date column enabled in View>Show View Options that will show the 1-1-04 date.

  • Update episode release date....

I have an old episode that is at the bottom of my podcast that we wanted to move towards the top. In order to do this, I updated the "release date" of the episode in my feed to a more recent date. Sure enough, doing that moved the episode up exactly to the spot that I wanted to in my list of episodes on my podcast. The only problem is that I keep getting error 404 messages in iTunes when I try to download the episode now.
Did I do something wrong here? The podcast link is as follows if anyone could have a look - it would be much appreciated:
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=120980516
    Thanks.

Roger, thanks for the input. Its funny, but recently the file started working correctly. I did not change its order in the feed file but only updated the release date and it posted where I wanted it to on iTunes. You can have a look at the episode -- its name is "Cleared For Takeoff" and it used to be way at the bottom of the list but my client wanted it moved "somewhere close to the top" - so that's how I did it.
At this point in time, I feel a little skiddish about posting the xml feed in the public (security, copyright issues etc) that might put my client at risk.
Once again, it was weird because for about a day and a half it didn't work properly - it kept giving me error 404. But now it seems to work just fine.
Thanks again. I guess this is just some more info for the knowledge base.

  • IPhone No Longer Sorts Podcasts By Release Date After 3.1 Update

After upgrading to iPhone OS 3.1 and iTunes 9.0(70) Podcasts on the iPhone no longer sort according to their release date. The ordering is definitely not alphabetical or any of the other user selectable sorting options. If I had to guess I'd say it's sorting them by reverse download order (which when you update less frequently than once a day is quite confusing since iTunes downloads most recent first). Is this a problem with the iPhone OS, iTunes or an option that I'm missing somewhere (the iTunes podcast tab is set to sort by release date).

I'm thinking this is not a iphone 3.1 upgrade issue, as the only thing I have upgraded is to iTunes 9 and I am having the exact same problem. After upgrading my phone did lock up really bad. The screen was on, was showing slide to unlock but was totally unresponsive to the home and sleep buttos. Plugging it back into the computer also did nothing. I had to hard restart it with the home and sleep button in sych.
My Podcasts have no sorting capability what so ever. There is no logical reason they are so jumbled up.

  • Sort Podcasts by release date

Is there anyway to sort podcasts by reverse relase date?  I have many podcasts.  By default, they are sorted with the most recent first.  When I listen to them I can either listen to them individually, oldest first, which is a pain because I have to manually select them, or put them in a playlist.  When in the playlist, they play by most recent first, which is also a pain because I hear episode 7 before episode 6, etc.
I want to be able to listen to the oldest podcast first!
    Anybody have any ideas?

  • Sorting podcast on iPod by release date

I have been googling solution for this problem but none of the solution that people suggesting really works. So the problem is I can sort podcasts by release date in iTunes but on my iPod I cannot. iPod automatically sorts all the episodes by name which is not what I want. I need a chronical order.
Is there any way to sort podcasts by release dates on iPod touch?
    Thanks,

I'd also like to be able to sort contacts by Business->User (like iTunes does with albums->songs).
Address Book also needs some kind of "Business"-merging of all people inside a single business (so we don't have to repeat all information such as fax, URL, address, etc).

  • FEATURE REQUEST: Allow Smart Playlists to sort by Release Date

I listen to my iPod in my car and have a one of those kits where you can control your iPod through your stock stereo (i.e. select playlists by pressing buttons 1-6, and changing tracks with the next track/ last track buttons). One of my playlists is a smart playlist that looks for all downloaded audio podcasts that have not yet been played. As of right now, I have to go into the playlist after every update and reorder the podcasts manually in order from earliest release to newest release. The only date-sorting column right now is "date added". This doesn't work because if I update and download two or three episodes from one podcast, they all have the same date in that field, even if they were released on different days.
Please iTunes, allow a column heading that sorts podcasts by Release Date. This would make my life a lot easier and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I know when I'm looking at all my podcasts from the Podcast-Manager portion of iTunes that I can see the Release Date column, however it is not an available column outside of that view.
Anybody else wanna see this feature?

I was looking for the exact funtion too. Please don't make our life any harder

  • Playing smart playlist by release date on Shuffle

I cannot get this to work. I'm trying to listen to podcasts by release date but for some reason it's not. I have the smart playlist setup to include "Most recently added". Is there some other way to do this?

Create a playlist and add the podcasts you want to
it. The order you add them to the list will be the
order they play in. If you mix this order up, just
click on the far left bar above the track numbers to
restore it to the original order.
Since the podcasts under the podcast icon are sorted
in order by release date, if you drag a group of
podcasts into your playlist they will stay in that
    order.
    Hope this answers your question.
Yeap, I've been meaning to reply. This workaround does work for me. It's not perfect, but it's easy enought to create a new playlist called 'podcasts" and dragging and dropping the latest podcasts in it, and then manually syncing it to the ipod.
Of course I have to do the same for videos too.
BTW, most interesting we have the same computer. Except mine is the 500mhz version of the 1st gen tibook.

  • Podcast episode sort problem "no release date"

Today I added a new episode of my Podcast on itunes, but instead of appearing at the top, appears at the bottom and the "Release date" is not shown. I don't understand what is the problem, can someone help me ?

  • How do you get podcasts to list by release date on iPhone?

Read my whole question because I keep seeing people not doing so.
So, podcasts through iTunes on the iPhone recently updated. Before when I downloaded podcast episodes, they would be by release date, in the music app under the specific podcast. For example my churches sermons. Now when I download them, they are no longer by date, but alphabetical order by the title of the episode, which messes up trying to listen to them in order. Everything is through the iPhone. Itunes on iphone and podcasts in theusic app is where i play them from. No sort options that I can see.
Is there a way to fix this? So my stuff is in orderr? I'm noticing it with all the different podcasts I listen to so its not the XML file that's used to organize the podcasts. Unless the update put all the XML files out of date.
    Thanks,
    Mark

In the past, I discovered the solution was that you must have at least ONE song in a playlist. No idea why. I would make playlists that had 10 podcasts but not until I added 1 song did the playlist, including the 10 podcasts, sync. Sadly, I recently reinstalled and am having the invisible podcast problem all over again, and this time adding 1 song doesn't work. But it might work for you.

  • Itunes is not sorting my podcast playlist by 'Release Date'?

I have a Macbook running Mac OS 10.5.8.  In iTunes 10.5.2 [11], I set up a playlist of my  podcasts sorted by 'Release Date' & have everything automatically sync to my 4th Generation iPod Touch which is running ios 5.0.1 [9A405].
On my Macbook in iTunes with my iPod Touch attached by the iPod Touch cable, I see that my iPod touch is sorted by 'Release Date'.  But, when I look on my iPod Touch is not sorted by 'Release Date', but sorted by random?
On my macbook itunes does sort by 'Release Date', but not on my iPod Touch
When I was running ios 4, I didnt have this problem, could it be a bug in ios 5.0.1?
    Harold

    Hi Harold,
I have a similar problem with my ipod nano, though the podcasts do not play in a random order when they get to the ipod; whererever I start to play the podcast, once that is finished, it automatically plays the previous episode instead of the next episode. Very annoying.

  • Can't download podcast episodes over cellular data

I am running the current ios software and have the current Apple Podcast app installed. Since updating to 7.0.4 and installing the current app version, I now am having issues with downloading podcast episodes using cellular data specifically. You try and download an episode and it just freezes and then says "download error, tap to retry". You then get a massive popup saying "unable to download podcast" and underneath this, it says the podcast episode "could not be downloaded at this time". This happens not just with one specific podcast. I have tried everything I can think of and that Apple have suggested. I have:
    - Unsubscribed then resubscribed to podcasts I have seen this issue with
    - Closed out of the app and gone back in
    - Ensured at all times I have been attempting this, that cellular data has been on for podcasts
    - Switched cellular data off for podcasts and as a whole then I have switched back on
    - Done a hard reset of the phone
    - Deleted the Podcast app itself, reinstalled and then tried to download an episode over cellular data
    - Reset Network Settings
    - Performed a full restore of the device
After doing the restore, I set the phone up as new and then installed just the podcast app and was able to download an episode over cellular data. I then restored my data from backup and then all of a sudden, I had the same issue again. I did another reset of the network settings and then the issue went away. The issue has returned yet again today. I called Apple to advise and they say they will investigate and get back to me.
Has anyone else had this issue and have you managed to find a permanent solution? When I am on wifi, I don't have this issue at all. I attempted to download another app and a song from itunes over 3G and had no issues. As such, I can only conclude there must either be an issue with the app itself or ios7.0.4 has done some damage here. I like to download my podcasts on the train to work so don't always have the ability to download over 3G.
    A very annoying issue!

I am having same problem, except mine is a movie rental on 3rd gen ipad wifi. It seems like this problem has been occuring for quite a few years and apple cant be bothered to fix it. It is really annoying because none of the fixes work. My movie is 99% downloaded and i cant play it or delete or retry the download. Its gona be a few months before anyone from apple decides to post to this thread anyway. Its a real shame. In the apple store not one "genius" cud help with this either.

  • Release date set to 1/5/11 for all podcasts and iTunes U files

I have an ongoing problem with iTunes on my MacBook Pro where the release date is set to 1/5/11 for all podcasts and iTunes U files. Although I can seemingly correctly sort by release date, the date is the same across all files. Can someone advise as to how I might go about correcting this such that the actual, proper, release date is shown? Thanks in advance for the help! - mvrb

    @King_Penguin thanks for your help
    See below some additional info:
    I have 3 Macs:
    1 X MBPr 2012 (OS X 10.9.1
    1 X MBPr 2012 (OS X 10.8.5)
    1 X iMac 2009 (OS X 10.8.5)
    1) All 3 Macs have access to same accounts and have same apps in iTunes.
    2) Problem is only found on both MBPr's 2012 with one NL and 1 US account. With one NL account (inactive) I have no issue on all three.
FYI I have multiple iTunes accounts: 2 for the Netherlands and 1 for US.
I also tried this after deleting the only 2 apps I got from the US iTunes Store but that did not solve my issue.
I think the matter is related to my iTunes account(s) and NOT to a computer (prefs file)

  • ITunes "Released" dates on podcasts all the same and wrong.

I've noticed this going on for some time now but am just getting around to figuring it out.
In my iTunes the released dates for my podcasts always come up as the same incorrect date.
For some reason they all show a release date of January 5, 2008.  Not sure if the date is significant or not.
This is a brand new computer running 10.7.2.  When I set it up though I did use the migration assistant and it brought this issue from my old computer to the new one.
I've done a lot of googling on the subject and can't find any online reference to a similar problem.
Hoping there is someone on the forums that can figure this out.
    Thanks!

First I'd set up a System Restore point. Then try applying the LNK registry fix from the following document:
File Association Fixes for Windows 7
Does that get your icons back to normal?

  • ITunes podcasts "release date" say it's 2008, not 2009. Help!

iTunes seems to think it's 2008, not 2009. For podcast "release dates," iTunes tells me the right month and the right day, but not the right year. This is also the case when browsing the podcast directory in the iTunes Store. I cannot remember when this problem began.
On top of this, if I right-click on the itunes menu options running horizontal across the top of the podcast library window, I can include "year" as another category in addition to the standard "release date" (which cannot be removed), however "year" does tell me 2009 for all recent downloads. If I include "date added" and/or "date modified", meanwhile, the result is the same as that given by "release date". This is a pretty bizarre realization. Anyone else having this problem? Maybe it's a problem with the latest iTunes release? My OS X clock is perfectly okay, no problems there. Help please!

If you get incorrect dates in Date Added and Date Modified, that is not the cause of individual podcasts, but iTunes' date processing.
I had a problem with date processing and it turned out it was due to my using Custom settings in the Date & Time SysPref. The system clock worked fine, but iTunes didn't, so I changed back to standard settings and iTunes was happy again.
I'm not saying yours is the same problem but it may be worth looking at your settings.

  • Podcasts Sorting by Release-Date in Smart Playlist

    Hi, all
I keep all episodes of prefered podcast programs (like business week's cover stories), i sort all episodes of each program by release date, which i believe is the most accurate sorting method.
When i create a smart playlist of one particular program, i find the order of episodes in that program's playlist are all wrong, and there is no way to sort them in right order, which is, by release date. Unless i manually ordering them.
The "sort-by-release-date" option does come out while organising the entire podcasts library, but it dissapears in playlist or smart playlist, can I get it back?
Athlon 64, 1024MB, WD Raptor 74GB   Windows XP

You are correct- when creating a Smart Playlist, you are not allowed to sort the playlist by "Release Date".
I find I am able to right click on the current column headers and choose to view "Date Modified" or "Date Created".
By sorting by these columns, I find I can usually sort by the most recently released or downloaded episodes.
    I'm using iTunes 7.0.1 on OSX 10.4.7
iMac G5 Dual Core ICD   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
