Podcast episodes display as subscriptions in iTunes 11

I just upgraded to iTunes 11--big mistake.
All of my podcasts are listed on the left column. For a few podcasts, the same series shows up multiple times as though they are multiple subscriptions even though they are merely different episodes of the same podcast. I tried grouping them to see if that would organize them together but it didn't work. I still have 9 different episodes represented as 9 different subscriptions. It wasn't like this before I upgraded.
Any help as to how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
DrK

As you say, in the Store the latest episodes don't show a publishing date. When subscribing in iTunes, none of the episodes show a publishing date, and they are listed in the order they appear in the feed.
In the feed, none of your episodes has a 'pubDate' tag, which is where iTunes gets the date from. Since most of the episodes in the Store have a date, it looks as if originally your episodes had this tag, but that five episodes back you did something in whatever method you are using to create your feed which removed these tags: the Store is presumably getting the dates from its cache since the episodes haven't changed, but obviously doesn't have the dates for the last 5 episodes.

• Podcast episodes not updating correctly in iTunes

Hello,
I am having a problem with my podcast episodes not updating correctly in iTunes. The last 5 episodes I published appeared in iTunes at the bottom of the episode list, as if they were old episodes--i.e., they appear as if they were the first 5 episodes published. They also do not have a date assigned to them as the rest of the episodes do. They were not distributed to podcast subscribers, possibly because iTunes is not recognizing them as new episodes.
Here is my podcast feed: http://ic.instantcustomer.com/instantcasts/feed/podcast/5047174b90f14efe542431c2 674b1bd9
And here is the link to my podcast in iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/small-business-marketing-minute/id896451432
The problem began with last Wednesday's episode, which was Episode 30, and has continued ever since. I did not do anything differently when I published that episode than I did when I published the previous 29 episodes, and those updated just fine, or at least seemed to as far as I could tell (i.e., they appeared correctly on iTunes, and appeared as a new episode for me as a podcast subscriber). Also, after examining the rss feed, I could not see any difference between episodes 1-29 and episodes 30--34, at least as far as the way the feed was formatted. So, I have no idea what triggered the problem, and no idea how to fix it. If I can't resolve the issue then I think I'll have to abandon the podcast, since there's no point in publishing a podcast that doesn't distribute new episodes to subscribers.
If anyone can shed light on this problem for me, it would be most appreciated. Thanks!
-Kevin

• My Podcast Episodes are NOT Indexing in iTunes.

Hello all!
Thank you in advance for the help of this great community.
Ok, here we go:
Podcast Episodes NOT indexing on my iTunes URL page.
1.) RSS is live and works (episodes can be downloaded by podcast subscribers)
http://zenvirtualassistants.libsyn.com/rss
2.) URL is live and works:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/zen-virtual-assistants-podcast/id912879481
3.) Hosting at Libsyn is working fine too.
4.) Subscribers can download fine.
5.) Podcast approved by iTunes and URL page is live
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/zen-virtual-assistants-podcast/id912879481
6.) PROBLEM:
Episodes (5 in total) CAN NOT BE SEEN/ARE NOT INDEXING on iTunes URL page.
What do I do to solve this please?
Thank you so much for your help and solutions!
Sincerely,
Joel

You've fallen over a long-standing and intermittent bug in the Store where it claims to be showing the correct number of items (you will notice that it says 'Total: 5 items') but in fact either isn't showing any or isn't showing all of them, although all the episodes appear when subscribing. There isn't really anything you can do about this yourself as the problem lies with the Store, not your feed. It usually sorts itself out in a few days, but it's worth emaling Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and asking them to re-index your podcast as this may speed things up.

• Unable to check/uncheck older podcast episodes in iPod sync to iTunes 11.0

Hi,
I have a few podcasts in my iTunes where I have saved a large number of episodes. Now I have upgraded to the new version of iTunes I unable to check/uncheck older podcast episodes from iPod syncing - the finder window won't scroll to the bottom of the list, and just 'bounces' after scrolling past a certain number!
Not sure if this is a bug, or I'm overlooking something.
Thanks

I have the same problem. Scrolling does not work in the iPod podcast list panel, but it works in every other panel or window in iTunes...

• Podcast episodes won't download in iTunes app (but works fine on desktop)

Hi, I can't figure this out:
Our podcast episodes simply won't download in the iTunes app on iPhone. The download simply stops at 10.3 kB (or sometimes at another value), without really getting started at all.
This is very odd, since downloads are working fine in iTunes on the desktop, and in other apps on the phone (such as Instacast).
Here's the iTunes-page for the podcast:
http://itunes.apple.com/no/podcast/filmfrelst/id303539607?l=nb
And here's the RSS feed URL:
http://montages.no/filmfrelst_files/rss.php
(The podcast is called "Filmfrelst", and is searchable in the iTunes app)
Any clues?

OK, seems like I located the problem - sort of. It's not the feed that's the issue, but rather the fact that I'm pushing my MP3-files through a PHP script which does some statcounting. If I access the MP3 files directly, the iTunes app downloads them OK.
So I'm guessing maybe my headers aren't exactly what the iTunes app is expencting? Here's a snippet from the PHP file which outputs the MP3 data:
header('Content-Type: audio/mp3');
header('Content-Length: 'filesize($location));
@readfile($location);

• How long should it take for a new podcast episode to show up in iTunes?

Greetings, I have a podcast listed in iTunes and it showed up fine after they listed it. However, about 6 hours ago I uploaded a new episode (number 2 - woohoo) and it's not showing up in iTunes yet. Obviously when I fired up iTunes it downloaded it for me as I was subscribed but if you search for my podcast under iTunes podcasts it only shows one episode.
The podcast is Duel Boot Radio, hosted on libsyn (http://duelbootradio.libsyn.com/) and the iTunes listing is at http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=121788608&s=143 441
Yes, if anyone does listen, we have a ways to go on our sound quality, etc.
Anyway, is this normal for this type of delay before a new show appears in iTunes?
mac mini Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hi Scott.
Some people are reporting problems with getting new episodes listed. Here are a couple of things to try:
- Make sure you have the
tag in the
tag
- Include the tags

in the
tag
- After you've uploaded your new .xml file with the updated info, PING the iTunes server with
https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?id=xxxxxxxx where xxxxxxxx is your ID number
You can also use the html address like this:
https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?feedURL=http://www.YOURADDRESS.org/YOURFILE.xml
- And lastly, once you have downloaded the new episode in iTunes, PLAY it all the way to the end (you can jump to the end) so the date played shows. I believe this sends something back to the iTMS, and sometimes it helps to update.
Hope this is helpful.

• One of my podcast episodes is not listed on iTunes services

Hola Apple Folk,
I started a podcast last year, originally on my own personal Wordpress site then moved all the content to a new website. I reposted old episodes to my new site and removed them from my old site then updated my feed. For months, all of my episodes appeared on the iTunes store, Podcasts app, and other apps like Stitcher. Just recently I've noticed that my very first episode is now no longer available in any format, even though nothing was changed in the post and the url still verifies. What's the most likely reason that a single episode might go missing from these platforms?

Thanks!

There is no way to delete songs from an iPod.
Nothing will be touched on your iPod in regards to iTunes content with the first sync with iTunes on your new computer if you transfer your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer following the simple instructions included with the link provided. Certainly as a Windows user you maintain a backup for all important data which should include your iTunes library? Important regardless the platform but even more so with Windows due to constant virus, adware, and spyware concerns. Or do most Windows users start with a new computer from scratch without transferring any data from an old computer to a new computer due to constant virus, adware, and spyware concerns?
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only from an iPod - really. As the largest distributor for music and as #1 by far in MP3 player sales, this is required by those who own the distribution rights for the music. Part of an effort to prevent or minimize stealing music by those who own the distribution rights.

• New podcast episode downloads in subscription but not shown in episode list

We are uploading podcasts under the name Rivendell Fellowship. (link is http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/rivendell-fellowship/id392550297)
I subscribe and the most recent episode downloaded automatically and plays in I-tunes. But when I search through our episode list, it isn't shown. I wanted to post an online link to that particular episode but can't find it to do so.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Your latest episode, 'Follow Me', posted 6 March, appears in the feed, when subscribing, and in the Store page. The only oddity is that the Store page is not showing the duration - this is a quirk which has affected a number of podcasts recently: but everything otherwise is quite normal.
If you want to post a link to the actual media file, it's at
http://recordings.talkshoe.com/TC-87855/TS-461055.mp3
Otherwise I'm not entirely clear whether you still have a problem - please do post back if you have, but it would be helpful if you could provide exact details of what you are expecting to see but aren't.

• Latest podcast episodes dont show up in iTunes

Usually when updating a podcast iTunes will scan the RSS feed, add the latest episode to the list and then download it.
Now when a new episode of a podcast is available, it wont show up on the list until it has been completely downloaded. I can see in the box at the top of iTunes that it's downloading, and it tells me what episode it's downloading, but wont show up on the list unless I quit and restart iTunes during the download process.
There are no error messages and no ! next to the feeds. Is this happening to anyone else? I haven't made any changes, it's just started happening.

In fact the Store is missing episodes 1 and 7,
Episode 1 is not present in the feed. Episode 7 is, but it has no 'enclosure' tag containing the URL of the media file, as is required by iTunes (and is present in the other episode except a few which are presumabloy designed not to have playable media, and thus don't show in iTunes).
The media file URL for episode 7 is present in the 'description' tag, and works; but evidently you have failed to do something in WordPress which you did for the other episodes to make it iTunes-compliant.

• Podcast episodes won't update in iTunes since July - Please help!

I've had a podcast posted in iTunes since May and everything has worked fine up until a month ago. It's showing that the last episode update was on 7/27, when we've posted three new videos since then. Subscribers do receive the new videos, but the "About" page is still missing episodes that were posted over a month ago.
We've changed nothing about the feed format, and all other podcast services are posting info correctly (ie., podcastpup, podcast alley, etc.). I've pinged the feed after every update and contacted tech support with no feedback. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing to check when having trouble is to validate your feed with the feed validator at http://www.feedvalidator.org . You have problems with the length of two of your entries. You (or your software) added the phrase " bytes" after the number for the size of the enclosure. Remove the space and the word bytes so there is just a number between the quotes, and try it again. Make sure you update the pubDate for the channel so that the iTunes server will re-process the feed. Good luck, hope this helps. Mike

• Single Podcast Episode Not Showing up in iTunes

The second episode of the ExactTarget Developer Podast is not showing up. This was originally related to a bad link which was subsequently fixed. Any idea of what is happening or how it can be fixed?
Podcast: ExactTarget Developer Podcast
Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/ExactTargetDeveloperPodcast

The media file URL for the missing episode has two spaces after the '.mp3' and before the double quotes; it seems possible that this is causing iTunes to be unable to read the URL.

• Some Podcast episodes not showing up in iTunes

Can anybody help? I've been using iWeb 1.1.1 without a hitch for awhile. The other day I updated to OS X 10.4.7. Made a change to something in iWeb, then published it. Now, only 3 of six podcasts show up in iTunes, shows 1, 4 and 6. Weird huh? Is this because of the OS X update? Anyone else experiencing this kind of problem?

figured it out

• My older podcast episodes are missing on iTunes.

Just noticed last week that my nine oldest podcast episodes are no longer on itunes. They're alive and well on my blog page so I'm nor sure what happened. Did I reach some magical quota on iTunes? I have no clue how to resubmit or do any of that stuff. Thanks for any help!

iTunes imposes no limit (at least up to 300). Many podcast creation programs or services limit the number of episodes in the feed, removing older ones when this limit is reached. There is usually a setting to increase this number.
However there might be other reasons; but it's not really possible to comment unless you would like to publish the URLs of both your feed and the Store page - this latter can be found by control-clicking on the podcast image (or where it should be) - and choosing 'Copy link'. Please include the http:// in both cases to make the links clickable.

• Half podcast episodes missing

Only half of my podcast episodes are turning up in iTunes - I think this is because Feedburner isn't picking up on them (http://feeds.feedburner.com/ThePilgrimsPodcast). I may be past some maximum information limit. Is there some way to either filter my blog feed to only include posts with podcast audio (like, instead of plugging in the website's URL - plug in the URL for a blogger label)? Or should I figure out another hosting service?
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-pilgrims-podcast/id942105067?mt=2

Your feed has seven episodes with playable media, and these show in iTunes (episodes 7 to 13). It also has numerous episodes which have no playable media, and these are not shown in iTunes. There are 25 episodes in all.
The feed has been originally constructed in Blogger, and if you were expecting to see older episodes in it, it's likely that Blogger is limiting you to 25 episodes shown in the feed, older ones being moved to an archive page and out of the feed - something that many services do.
Of course if you are going to mix weblog and podcast episodes in the same feed then this sort of thing is going to happen. Neither Feedburner nor Blogger can detect the difference. It's better to keep the podcast episodes in their own separate feed. However there may be a setting in Blogger to allow you to include more episodes. The iTunes Store doesn't impose a limit until you get to 301.
