Podcast episodes won't download correctly

I have submitted a podcast to iTunes, they approved it, and now I'm trying to download it to my iPod touch via the Podcasts app. I try to play it but it says there's no length to it, and it says "Playback failed". So I go to the feed (http://thisurlisoccupied.3owl.com/podcast/feed.xml), and find that when making the edit, the urls to the audio files were wrong. So I change it to the correct url. It's now working when I subscribe to the podcast going to the "Advanced" Menu in iTunes, then click "Subscibe to Podcast..."
When I go to the iTunes store, and try to download what I think should be the updated feed. No difference. Now, is this because I have to wait for iTunes to acknowledge the change, or is there something wrong with my server or feed?

It normally takes a couple of days or so for the Store to see changes: as there are thousands of feeds it caches them and checks them periodically for updates. As it's working OK when you subscribe then you can expect the Store to update in a day or two.

  • New Podcast Episodes won't download

I subscribe to a lot of NPR podcasts and this week the new episodes won't download. When I hit refresh at the bottom right corner nothing downloads but when I go to the iTunes store there are new episodes. I can get them there by hitting the "get episode" button, but why won't the new episodes in the itunes Store automatically download? anyone else having this problem? any suggestions?

Are you sure you have actually clicked on the "Subscribe" button rather than just downloading individual episodes?
Are the episodes listed in iTunes but not downloading, or are they just not listed at all?

  • Podcast episodes won't download in iTunes app (but works fine on desktop)

Hi, I can't figure this out:
Our podcast episodes simply won't download in the iTunes app on iPhone. The download simply stops at 10.3 kB (or sometimes at another value), without really getting started at all.
This is very odd, since downloads are working fine in iTunes on the desktop, and in other apps on the phone (such as Instacast).
Here's the iTunes-page for the podcast:
    http://itunes.apple.com/no/podcast/filmfrelst/id303539607?l=nb
And here's the RSS feed URL:
    http://montages.no/filmfrelst_files/rss.php
(The podcast is called "Filmfrelst", and is searchable in the iTunes app)
    Any clues?

OK, seems like I located the problem - sort of.  It's not the feed that's the issue, but rather the fact that I'm pushing my MP3-files through a PHP script which does some statcounting. If I access the MP3 files directly, the iTunes app downloads them OK.
So I'm guessing maybe my headers aren't exactly what the iTunes app is expencting? Here's a snippet from the PHP file which outputs the MP3 data:
    header('Content-Type: audio/mp3');
    header('Content-Length: 'filesize($location));
    @readfile($location);

  • How can I delete an extra copy of a podcast episode that I downloaded via the iPhone's iTunes app?

I downloaded an episode of a podcast using the iTunes app on my iPhone.
I listened to it, and then later synced it to my iTunes.
I have iTunes set to delete podcast episodes after I listen to them, but this one is still on my iPhone.
How can I get this episode deleted from my iPhone?
    I have a Verizon iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1.
    Thanks in advance!

It's not clear from your post if you've tried downloading the app again from the App Store directly on your phone. If you haven't I'd give that a try.

  • Podcast episodes won't update in iTunes since July - Please help!

I've had a podcast posted in iTunes since May and everything has worked fine up until a month ago. It's showing that the last episode update was on 7/27, when we've posted three new videos since then. Subscribers do receive the new videos, but the "About" page is still missing episodes that were posted over a month ago.
We've changed nothing about the feed format, and all other podcast services are posting info correctly (ie., podcastpup, podcast alley, etc.). I've pinged the feed after every update and contacted tech support with no feedback. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing to check when having trouble is to validate your feed with the feed validator at http://www.feedvalidator.org . You have problems with the length of two of your entries. You (or your software) added the phrase " bytes" after the number for the size of the enclosure. Remove the space and the word bytes so there is just a number between the quotes, and try it again. Make sure you update the pubDate for the channel so that the iTunes server will re-process the feed. Good luck, hope this helps. Mike

  • I can't updated podcast episode list or download podcasts

I have been having issues with podcasts in iTunes as of yesterday. I cannot download episodes of podcasts I am currently subscribed to, and when I try to unsubscribe and re-subscribe, I can no longer get a list of available episodes. I have tried logging in and out of my Apple id, deleting the iTunes folder and upgrading my version of iTunes and nothing has fixed the issue.
    Please help!

I don't know how podcasting via the iTMS is organized (only listen to them), so don't expect an expert opinion from me.
    This is what I experienced:
Search OK. Only 1 episode found. Clicked on the artwork to go to the podcast. Got the message "Could not complete etc."
Well, there's nothing wrong with my Internet connection either.
    Other podcasts work fine.
So, my layman's opinion is that there is something wrong at the iTMS.
Clicked the 'Subscribe' button. All 29 episodes listed. Downloading them was no problem at all (full speed on my DSL; 665 KB/s).
So there's nothing wrong with your Internet connection either.
These are just my findings and layman's opinion.
Can't suggest anything to solve it though.

  • Podcast episodes will not download from podcast stream

I have set up a podcast on my website to download sermons. I created the xml file which I tested in my feeds section of my browser. The xml file works perfectly there in that all the episodes are listed with thier respective audio files. If you click on the actual audio file it downloads the way that it should and plays. I copied the xml file location and went into Itunes and chose subdcribe to a pod cast. It asked for the url which I pasted the xml file location. Itunes displayed all of my episodes the way that it should. The problem then starts. When I click on an episode to download the audio file the episode name flashes for a second or 2 in the window on top and then nothing. The audio file will not download on any of the episodes. It lists them all but other then that I can't do anything with them. My xml file location is: http://www.stpaulsconway.org/stpaulssermons.xml What could I possibly be doing wrong?

Glad to hear that you have solved your problem.
May I suggest that if you have any further questions regarding Podcasts that you are producing, that you post the question in the Producing Podcasts community, where people with more specific knowledge will be sure to help you.

  • Episodes won't download

When I manually subscribe to my libsyn podcast feed in iTunes, it shows that I do not have any episodes, which is not the case. I know there are many similar questions on this forum and I looked through a bunch of them and still have not found my solution.
    My libsyn feed is here:
    http://theforbiddenlimb.libsyn.com/rss
I also have it in feedburner here:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheForbiddenLimbPodcast
When I try to submit my podcast to iTunes, it gives me the error "We had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed." When I view my podcast in iTunes, it says "There are no episodes in this podcast feed."
    Can anyone give me suggestions?
    Best regards,
    Brian

Yes Apple supports all those formats.
But for Audio - you are much better off going with .mp3 format as it is the most compatible across all platforms.
.m4a has issues with some platforms.
The recommended settings for .mp3 files is:
    64 kbps - Bit rate
    44.1 khz - sample rate
    mono or joint stereo
That will give you a file that works across the most devices and platforms and is a good quality and does not use up to much of your users data plans.
That is the settings used by most of the big shows in iTunes.

  • Error 8008 - Episode won't download - itunes store email address now bounces

I've spend ~£26 on the HD version of Battlestar Galactica Season 2; this should get me all the episodes in Series 3 & 4.
Unfortunately, one episode (Season 4, Episode 13, "The Oath") repeatedly fails to download (1 week now, at least a dozen attempts).
It gets 1.2Gb of 1.4Gb into the download, stops, restarts all over again, gets to 1.2Gb and then gives error 8008.
I've been in contact with the itunes store multiple times about it (Re: CAS : (en_US) Purchases, Billing & Redemption; Follow-up: 295940492) and they kept saying "try it again", "i've marked it for redownload" but nothing has changed.
I now can't even email the itunes store people who have been "supporting me", as their email address no longer replies (it bounces at apple's end with a 550 Recipient address rejected).
I reckon the content is broken in the cloud; maybe I'm the only mug stupid enough to try to buy TV series this way, but not to worry it won't happen again.
I've deleted my downloads directory, retried this so many times I'm probably on the verge of getting a bandwidth warning, I've tried two different networks - to no avail.
So here I am, in the forums, wondering if all I can do is do the nuclear option of challenging the credit card transaction to get the refund?

Any joy getting this sorted?  I have the same problem.  Can't download it, can't stop it from trying.  Getting quite annoying now.

  • Podcasts simply won't sync correctly between mac

and iPhone 6. They sync randomly. I get old episodes I've already played, and not the new ones I haven't played. I've followed every instruction on the apple support site, and it simply doesn't work. It's very frustrating. So I have to go back to using my five year old iPod to listen to podcasts, because it will actually sync the unplayed episodes from my mac when I connect it. I'd like to just carry the iPhone and not the podcast, but the software has made that impossible. I love the iPhone, but the podcasts app may be the worst piece of software I've ever encountered. Would be nice if Apple would fix it, but I've seen complaints about this all over the forums, and Apple seems uninterested in addressing the problem.
I've spent too long today trying to make it work. No use spending good time after bad. The software simply is a piece of.....you know. Too bad. Sadly, there don't seem to be many great alternatives out there.
How hard can it be to have a setting where your podcasts on your phone and mac simply sync to each other? Of course, that is what it says it does, but it doesn't even come close to actually doing that. I keep looking for some third party work around, but haven't found that either. Apple has long advertised that things "just work" right out of the box. That used to be true. I hope they get back to that.

I found an answer in another thread that solved the problem very easily.  Just needed to change the date range for the reminders under settings to All Reminders. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4318462?start=0&tstart=0

  • TV series episodes won't download

I purchased a TV series and two of the episodes only downloaded about 30 seconds and will not complete.  Is there anyway to re-download these episodes without having to purchase them again?

    Hi kittyphoenix,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you are not able to download your past TV show purchases, first try the troubleshooting steps in this article:

  • New Episode won't download automatically

Ok, what gives? I purchased a season pass for Family Guy. I click "Store" and "Check for purchases" frequently, but there is a new episode that doesn't automatically download.
This isn't the first time this has happened. Does any one have any info on this?
    Vincent

    Hello Vincent,
are you sure, you bought the Family Guy "Season Pass" and not "Buy Season". As I think, there sadly is no Season Pass for Family Guy, you can just buy Season 6 up to the current episode.

  • OS X Mavericks Won't download correctly, app is gray?

I've been trying to download OS X Mavericks for about 3 hours now. It has been continously gray and unmoving.
After reading several ways on how to download the update I tried every step offered. It also seems as though when downloading the X should be green. Mine is gray, so I'm assuming that means the download hasn't even begun. Any solutions??

I had similar problems trying to upgrade from 10.7.5 to Mavericks: the Mavericks icon was greyed out and the Download wasn't proceeding.  This solution worked for me:
I figured out that the download was paused by going to the Launchpad, and finding the Mavericks icon, which said "Paused" underneath it (even though I don't recall pausing it myself).  I then held my mouse down on the Mavericks icon until it started shaking, and then clicked the little 'x' to abort the download.  I then went and plugged my MacBook Air directly into an ethernet cable, in order to have a much faster connection to the web, and restarted the download within the App Store.  Again, the 'OS X Mavericks' listing in the Purchases section of the App Store turned gray, but in the Launchpad view, it showed 'Downloading' underneath the Mavericks icon and the available disk space (as viewed in the Finder window) was slowing decreasing.
I think the App Store is a bit buggy: it should properly indicate when it is actively downloading Mavericks, and should have a progress meter.  It should also indicate when a download has been paused.  The App Store should provide the ability to abort/restart/pause downloads.
The key to solving this was the realization that I could abort/restart the download via the Launchpad. The other key was not trying to download via the slower WiFi connection, but instead using the much faster Ethernet connection.
