Podcast Export. Garageband 3.0.2. OS X 10.3.9

This topic has been passed around a few times here.
But I just want to add my experience.
On the box for iLife 6 it clearly says that system requirements for iLife 6 to work are OS 10.3.9 or 10.4.4 or higher.
Well it doesn't work properly under 10.3.9. I upgraded to Garageband 3.0.2.
I export a 30 minute podcast with music and chapter markers. And whatever I do I end up with a file that stops playing sound after 15 mins approx. I tried all possible combinations except for upgrading to 10.4.4.
This is just a way to force the consumer into upgrading to 10.4 and stating the software will work under 10.3.9. is just not correct. Possibly even an infringement of consumer law.
I guess I have no choice but to upgrade to 10.4 and face all kinds of upgrade issues with my other running software or forget about making podcasts and return iLife6.
I have been a loyal Mac user for more than a decade but this makes me think of the notorious OS 7.6 to 8.0 days to be honest and I don't like it at all.
BB

Thanks for the tip.
I upgraded the lot to 10.4.7.
Started all over again with the podcast and so far everything seems to work fine (at last).

  • IWeb not recognizing podcast exported from Garage band

I've been sending my podcasts to iWeb for over a year. I used to host my site on MobileMe but switched to a WordPress site through GoDaddy last year. Regardless, I've always continued to send my podcast to the old iWeb site and pinged iTunes from there. Have had no issues doing so.
When the podcast exports, iWeb has always prompted me/asked me which "blog" page I want to use for the new podcast. (Naturally, I chose my "podcast" page as the old site had multiple pages). Now, iWeb is not prompting that option, essentially not acknowledging that there is new content being exported in.
Any ideas where the disconnect might be? I've redone the share/send podcast to iWeb process from GarageBand 5 times with no success.

Did you ever figure out the answer? I am having the same problem.

is there an EASY way to submit podcasts to the itunes store? i've tried creating podcasts in garageband, then somewhere after wordpress  itunes  doesn't recognize the feed.
my process has been (i am open to suggestions for other free and EASY services/methods):
garageband : create & edit audio. add 1400x1400 image.
    share to itunes.
    drag file to desktop.
upload .m4a file to google drive.
create a link post in wordpress using "podcast" tag & create "podcast" category.
click on "entries rss" in wordpress, which takes me to the rss subscribe page (which is basically just my wordpress address with "/feed" at the end.
    i copy this url.
go to itunes store > then "submit a podcast"
itunes gives me the error message "we had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed."
when i try to subscribe to my podcast in itunes, it does, but gives me no episodes available.
i went back into wordpress and changed settings/ reading settings to : "full text" from "summary"
    still the same error message.
i added a feedburner step after wordpress but got the same errors. i don't think i should have to add feedburner.
wordpress seems to be encapsulating the rss, what am i doing wrong?
this so much easier when you could go directly from garage band to iweb to mobileme; i miss those apple days (also idisk).

if anyone has a super EASY process, i would LOVE to know what it is. EASY, meaning no html and also free. there are many free online storage systems available, many of which i currently use. the above process was just me trying to figure it out, if you have an easier method, please share. thank you so much!

  • Podcast with garageband

I created a podcast with garageband, sent it to iweb to host on my site, submitted it to itunes from iweb. It was just approved today but when I looked at it there is a link back to my page where the podcast is hosted and I want it removed. How do I go about removing that link?

I've not used iWeb for podcasting, but I ran a quick test and as I expected it fills in the 'link' tag in the feed (from which the iTunes Store page gets the site URL) with the URL of the podcast page. I can see no way of preventing it from doing this: you could edit the actual feed (you'd have to publish, download it, remove the URL, and upload it again) but you would have to do that every time you publish a new episode as obviously iWeb will overwrite the feed.
The advantage of iWeb is that with no experience you can turn out quite effective sites and podcasts: but the disadvantage is that you get very little scope for customization.

  • Skype podcast through Garageband?

I'm just wondering if it's possible to record my Skype podcast through Garageband's podcast feature.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2.0 GHz, 400Gb Hard Drive, 2Gb Ram, 250Gb External

Not directly - use a software like Audio Hijack to capture Skype's sound and import it into GB.

  • Best Headset Mic for Podcasting in Garageband?

What is the best headset mic for recording a podcast with Garageband '08?

The Logitech ClearChat Pro USB headset works pretty well for me. Just make sure the mic is far enough away where you're not going to be breathing directly into it. To really make the tracks sound studio-quality, add a Compressor (with vocal presets) and possible a Gate to the vocal track of your podcast in GarageBand.

  • Podcasting with GarageBand and iWeb

    Hey there,
I'm new to podcasting, I love it, but am having some problems. I record my podcast in GarageBand, then put it up on my iWeb site, and it plays fine from the site, but it's been 4 days now and they still aren't downloading in iTunes when I hit subscribe. They show up in the podcast section, but they dont download. How long does it usually take for iTunes to get these working. I've already received an email from them saying that my show is approved.
Also I'm wondering how I edit the Podcast info and picture. Right now the description of the show is just what is written on my site, but it is more of a site description, not a good itunes description. The individual podcast episodes use the post from iWeb as their description, which is fine, but I'd like to change the description for the over all show. Also I would like to change the picture but haven't been able to find any of this anywhere.
    Any help would be appreciated.
The site where my podcast is can be found here
Also I've never used this forum before, so I don't know if you email me back or what, but just in case my email is [email protected]
    MacBook 1.83   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

No they aren't the problem. I previously had the sound files on the site, then went through a phase and totally re did the site but kept all the same names, and the files still worked no problem.
I'm not sure what broken images your talking about. I've looked at the site on many different computers, mac and pc and the site functions fine.

  • Best mic for Podcasting using Garageband

Is there really that much of a difference in
bandwidth speed between Firewire 400 and USB 2.0?
You'd have to do some web research to get solid numbers. I know what I've read, and experienced, and FireWire moves more data more easily. On paper, I believe USB 2.0 is speced to be faster (480mbs vs 400mbs), but with FireWire handling all it's own smarts in moving data, it just does a better job in the REal World.
guess I didn't think that with USB, bandwidth would
be something to consider, unless you are talking
Firewire 800 which most machines don't come with.
My opinion is that it really depends how far you are going to push the machine and GB. I'm working on a 52 or 53 track project, I need every bit and every cycle I can get (and it's playing fine via my FireWire drive)
I have to admit, I am kind of curious now ... maybe when I get a chance I'll try copying the project to a USB drive and see if it can still play it. If it can, perhaps the difference is small enough that it doesn't matter. Probably the REAL test, which I'm doubtful I'll tackle, would be pushing the project to just the point where it will play from the FW drive (iow, one more track and it can't), and then move that to the USB drive. Not perfectly scientific (fragmentation could be an issue, etc), but it would be interesting to try.
On the USB/Firewire using CPU issue, that I didn't
think about. I guess in some situations it might be
an issue, but again, for audio podcasting I just
    didn't take that into consideration.
Yeah, for a PodCast, how many tracks are you REALLY going to create, half dozen tops? Maybe a few more for special-special effects, but they won't be playing through the entire cast, so, agreed, it's not likely to be an issue on a small project.
As far as one being better, or "cleaner" as an input
device, have there been any tests and results posted
on this? I would like to see that if there were.
The bus is not going to make a difference. All USB and FireWire are doing is moving the data, not changing it. Th quality comes from the Mic PREs and line-level preamps, the A/D converters, the mic you're using (the room...)
Thanks for your knowledge on all this.
Hope this helped --HangTime [Will Compute for Food] B-|>

  • IPod music player crash when playing podcast, exported from GarageBand

    Hello!
Before start, I'm using this soft/tools: GarabeBand '11 (6.0.4.) on Mac OS X(10.7.2.), podcast, submited in iTunes, and iOS 5 on my iPod Touch 4. All software is up to date.
So. I have a podcast which Is playing fine everywhere, on Mac, iPod etc. But the latest episode I did yesterday, I made with GarageBand to try "Chapter Marks" feature which I did not used before. Then I export podcast to my Mac and upload to my server to make available in iTunes Store as I usualy do.
Then I downloaded latest episode of my own podcast in iTunes, transfer it to iPod, and found that this episode cannot be played on it! I mean, it transfered well, it shown in episodes list of my podcast, but when I tap to play - music player app just crashing all the times. All previous episodes works fine, so I guess the problem with latest episode is because of GarageBand.
I've tried many different export settings in GarageBand: AAC Encoder with Higher Quality (192 kbps), iTunes Plus (256 kbps) and Custom settings 320 kbps. Also I tried all options in "Quality" dropdown menu in Custom settings: High, Higher and Highest.
But result is still same - this episode, exported from GarageBand, crashing on iPod (although It can be played normaly in iTunes on my Mac).
Would be glad for any suggestion how to solve this. I feel very bad cause subscribers of my podcast downloading "broke" episode :-(
    p.s.
Here is podcast in iTunes Store - http://itunes.apple.com/ru/podcast/daniel-lesden-presents-rave/id423519688
Here is RSS feed - feed://ravepodcast.com/downloads/podcast.xml
The problem with latest episode, #017.

I examined the episode media file. In QuickTime Player 7 it shows the chapter images, which are 160x160, and plays normally.
However in QuickTime Player X it doesn't show the images, but opens to a very large black player. The info in QT7 looks like this:
You will notice that although at the bottom it says 'Normal Size 160 x 160 pixels', in the top section it refers to a JPEG at 6227 x 6227 which I suppose is an embedded image, though I can see no evidence of one (unless it's plain black): an image this size wouldn't show on an iPod and would very possibly crash it.
I can't explain how this got there - I've never used GarageBand to make a podcast - but you should have an investigation and try to locate and remove it; it's very likely the cause of the problem.

  • After making a podcast on garageband, i exported the podcast to disk. But when i opened it as quicktime player, i was only able to hear the audio. I cannot see the images that i put on the podcast. Does anyone know why or a solution?

I already shared it as an AAC Encoder instead of MP3 Encoder, but it still will not show the images.

    Nevermind. I found a solution.

  • Cant play or import video podcasts from garageband to itunes

    Hi,
ive just update iTunes to version 7.2, however since doing this i can no longer import any kind of video podcast or imovie file to itunes. This is driving me mad as its very important for me to be able to do this as its a big part of my job!
If i delete the video track in garageband and just export it as a normal audio podcast it works fine, its just video files that are the problem, im pretty sure its iTunes related and not garageband, any ideas about whats going wrong?
(iTunes and garageband have both been updated)

Mike you are an absolute legend. Thankyou, this has been troubling me for weeks. Works perfectly now mate, nice one!
On another note, why did quicktime not update itself automatically, as i did do software up date, even ran software update from quicktime, but it didnt find anything, even though it was only on 7.0.4, surely it should have updated itself and saved me all the trouble?

  • Video podcast export settings

When exporting a movie from iMovie for import into GarageBand to make a video podcast, what settings and export option should i use? (given that the image window in iTunes is 300 x 300). I don't use iWeb. I'll be getting people to subscribe via iTunes.
    Grant.

I had a similar problem with an export of a recorded audio cassette to iTunes. See my post 21/12/2007 13:21. It is interesting that in my case smaller file sized work and the large one does not. So far nobody has offered a solution yet.

  • Podcast exports to  0KB file

I have a podcast recorded for my show and this is the first one I have recorded since the update to Garageband '08. When I try to export the podcast it goes through the entire exporting process, taking quite a while, but the resulting .AAC file is 0KB in size.
I have no idea how to fix this. Any help?

I'm having the same problem. We have a 3 hour internet radio show that we later podcast and post on www.djstevian.com. You can see, the podcasts from the last version of GarageBand worked - but I did have to change the tempo to 40 to allow for the timing issue. Now with GarageBand 08, I find the tempo trick no longer works. Says my file is 0kbs once it hits iWeb. I wish it would give a warning message or something that the song is too long.
Does anyone have a quick fix for the time being? If you go to www.djstevian.com, you can see the old podcasts working fine but the new ones...they're a bust!

  • Podcast export in Garage Band 10.0.3

    Hi out there -
I have used older versions of Garage Band and even iMovie in the past - meaning over 4 or 5 years ago - to do audio podcasts for my site.  These are generally 30 min. in length average.  I am only occasionally doing this now as others have picked it up.  I only have Garage Band on my mac, and find that the newer version is harder for me to figure out in exporting smaller files.  What I am doing is taking a pre-recorded audio file, editing it for volume consistency and cutting out a few things, and then exporting so I can upload to my site.  The problem with GB is the file sizes are large - in the neighborhood of 20 MB.  I want them to be about 10 if possible.  With older GB and iTunes I could achieve this, but now it seems I cannot get smaller than about 15 MB or so.  Could anyone help me out here? I am probably doing something very off here, and I am open to whatever in order to fix it, including ditching GB and getting something else altogether.
    Thanks -
    Craig

The problem with GB is the file sizes are large - in the neighborhood of 20 MB.  I want them to be about 10 if possible.
Have you tried all options in the "Share > Export Song to Disk" panel?  You can only reduce the file size by using lower quality settings.
With older GB and iTunes I could achieve this,
Do you still have your older  GarageBand version installed? GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5 is working well with Yosemite, and the GarageBand 10 installer does not uninstall GarageBand '11. You could still use it for your podcasts.

  • No more url support for podcasts in Garageband 6.05?

    Hi,
I'm a heavy Garaband/Podcaster and Mac user. I have a monthly podcast which I make in Garageband and publish via Podomatic/iTunes. I always add chapters and artwork. I used to add urls to the artwork/chapters in the past.
Now,  I decided to add urls again in my newest podcast, but this time I'm not able to get them worked. The Option "Show Url" is greyed out/not working.
Also if I add the urls (even with http:// and stuff) the chapter isn't clickable in iTunes. It's simply not exporting the urls. I know I'm not doing anything wrong because it worked in the past!
My conclusion is that it's because of the latest update this year 6.05 (using build 428.5).
Before that it was working properly.. so either they dropped the support for the URL's since this years update or it's just simply a bug.
Can't find a solution on the internet and I'm not seeing others experiencing this "specific" problem.
Can someone confirm this problem with version 6.05? Or test it out if it does work.
    Thanks in advance!
    seb

Problem solved.. I feel so stupid. I forgot to scroll to the right and add the url in the right place. I was putting the url in the Url title. I didn't see the URL column....
