Podcast feed problem

I have a podcast, Worship Ministry Catalyst, that used to be available for search & download via the iTunes store, I got an email saying there was a problem with the feed. I followed all the steps to fix the problem, checked to make sure my feed would work in iTunes per the suggested steps in the email and it does in fact work again. I then have resubmitted the podcast to the directory, as I was instructed to do so through and email from apple, but haven't gotten any response. I need to see what I need to do to get that back in the store.
I submitted an email to support and got this response:
1) Change the title and link fields of the RSS feed to something other than what they are now.
2) Resubmit the podcast feed via iTunes.
3) Once you have successfully submitted the podcast, you can change the title and link fields back to what they were.
The problem is, I don't want to change our feed, as we have many subscribers already on that feed. And I can't find anywhere through itunes that I can change it anyway.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you submit a feed the iTunes Store initially checks only the top episode of the feed. Your has no media file enclosed or even references. iTunes does not display episodes which have no media files, and as it cannot see a media file in the top episode is it returning the error you see.
You can have a mixture of episodes with and without media files in your feed if you wish: as said, iTunes will not display those with no media files; but when submitting your top episode must have a media file.

  • Podcast feed not working in iTunes

    Hi there,
I am trying to get a podcast feed for a client set up to work in iTunes. About the setup:
This is a self-hosted wordpress site, using the feedburner/SmartCast to create iTunes-friendly feeds. The site does use HTTPS as parts of it handle credit card processing.
Here is the feed XML (Chrome): view-source:http://feeds.feedburner.com/UnderTenFitness
Here is the feed link: http://feeds.feedburner.com/UnderTenFitness
The feed validates at http://castfeedvalidator.com/ and http://validator.w3.org/. Other podcast services pick it up just fine. Just iTunes. I've tried testing it by manually subscribing to it in iTunes, and the episodes/meta load fine, but the audio files neither play nor download. I also can't seem to find any kind of error message to describe what the hold up seems to be - just the ! next to the episode. I can briefly see a window that says "Connecting" but it dies right away.
Any insight into what's going wrong here would be much appreciated. I've added MIME types to the server for MP3 files, about to change the main icon from PNG to JPEG on some random recommendation that sometimes iTunes doesn't like PNG files.
    I've also tried:
taking the media link outside the audio player shortcode and just putting it in as href
using both http:// and https:// for the media link
I'm sure I've missed something basic here - but my experience with podcasting prior to this project was "I like to listen to them." So any suggestions appreciated.
    Regards,
    Hannah

The problem lies with the media files rather than the feed. The URL given for your top media file is
    http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/UnderTenFitness/~5/cn0Ui9M2FyI/2015-01-27-Psorias is-Natural-Remedies.mp3
    This redirects to
    https://www.undertenfitness.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/2015-01-27-Psoriasis- Natural-Remedies.mp3
The first URL works when you enter it in a browser, but on subscribing iTunes refuses to play it. These redirects using Feedproxy can cause problems, though they don't always, and frankly I would advise avoiding its use and providing a direct URL to the media file. Furthermore the URL for the actual file begins with https (secure connection) and this is also asking for trouble. Sometimes it works, but it's better avoided. Just removing the 's' so that it's http works with some servers but it appears not to hear. So you need to look into the matter of hosting your media files.

  • Am I missing something when trying to fix a podcast feed issue?

    Hi!
I've been working on this problem for about a month and I feel like I might be missing something obvious at this point.  So, I post it here in the hopes that one of you might be able to offer a suggestion on how I can fix my dilemma.
About a month ago I launched a second podcast on my website (wordpress/blubrry) and set up the 301 redirect as was recommended.  After several weeks the podcast feed wasn't updating on the iTunes directory even though I could see that the 301 redirect was working.  So, a few days ago I decided to go back and just keep things the way they originally were and took out the redirect and disabled my category podcast feed.  On my feed it is back to it's original settings, but iTunes is still not updating the feed after several days.
Here is information on my podcast:
    House Flipping HQ
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/house-flipping-hq-podcast/id730653890?mt=2
The feed which was originally confirmed in the email from iTunes when our podcast launched last year was this:
    Dear podcast owner,
Your podcast, located at http://houseflippinghq.com/feed/podcast/, has been approved. You should expect to see it on the iTunes Store within the next few hours. When it's available, you will be able to access it with the URL below.
If you go to that feed you should see that it is working correctly.
I have tried almost every day for the past month to figure out why this isn't working but to no avail.  Is there anything I might be missing or overlooking in my process?  If you have any thoughts they would be most welcome.
    Cheers!
    - Mark

To check the feed in use: go to the iTunes Store in iTunes itself (not the web page that comes up first from the link - click 'View in iTunes') to the page for your podcast and click the 'Subscribe' button.
Then go to the 'Podcasts' section to view your podcast: control-click (Mac) or right-click (Windows) on the title of your podcast (left column in 'My Podcasts' view or the main entry in List view) and choose 'Copy podcast URL'.
If you have the 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag in place this will show the feed being redirected to but doesn't prove that the Store has yet updated which it will do the first time it checks the feed after the tag has been inserted.

  • Podcast Videocast/ Audio only not showing up in itunes podcast feed

Hi Everyone, I work on a site called Truthdig and we can't get our latest audio (mp3) only podcast to show up in our itunes podcast feed, latest podcast episodes have been video. is this what is causing the problem? Could it be something else? Advice? Wisdom? Please help.

FYI, your link to your podcast in iTunes is wrong, it should be
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=299750047
Your feed validates, and I can't see anything wrong with it. Plainly the iTunes Store is failing to pick it up: it's been known for the Store not to be happy with feed URLs with a '?' in them, but presumably you haven't changed the feed URL since the original episode?
I can only suggest you approach Support:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/podcast/
(email link at the bottom of the page).

  • Hi, my podcast feed is not updating.

Is there a way that I can check my podcast feed in iTunes?
Here's the link that my Blubrry PowerPress plugin created http://desireestafford.com/feed/podcast/
The feed validator shows it as a webpage instead of a feed. How do I correct it?

You're going to have to ensure that it saves the feed with the same filename and URL as before otherwise the Store will lose contact with your feed. As long as it's the same, just re-upload it: subscribers will see the changes pretty well immediately but the Store will take a couple of days or so to update.
To check whether your feed is working you can either click the 'Subscribe' button on your Store page, or choose 'Subscribe to podcast' from the file menu and enter the URL of your feed. Doing this simply enables your iTunes application to read the feed: it has no connection with the Store. Currently of course it's not working because of the problem with the feed.

  • Need to move podcast feed from MobileMe hosting to DreamHost

I apologize if this has been covered, I could not find anything on the forum however to help. I currently host a podcast through MobileMe. I've created the podcast site through GarageBand/iWeb. I want to continue using the iWeb site, but host it on DreamHost (for reasons of disk space, etc). I have purchased a new domain name (talesfromthemousehouse.com) from DreamHost and wish to "migrate" the iWeb site to this new domain. Plus, I want to move the podcast feed along with it, so that all my old episodes etc goes to the new host, and the only thing my listeners will notice is that the site has a new address (www.talesfromthemousehouse.com). Now...I've yet to find anyone or anything that can properly help me, including Apple support. What I thought should be an easy task has turned out to be quite a nightmare. My podcast feed is: http://web.me.com/alkessel/Site_3/Podcast/rss.xml
Can anyone help? I know that (from the Apple podcast documentation), I need to insert some code <itunes:new-feed> or something, but WHERE? Nothing tells me HOW to access the stuff to edit in iWeb/MobileMe. I would love to get this done as soon as possible, any and all help is appreciated. Thanks! Al

I'm working with fairly minimal information here: as I understand it your original feed was
    http://web.me.com/alkessel/Site_3/Podcast/rss.xml
This feed does not contain the 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag. Did you put a tag in it and then remove it?
iTunes shows your podcast in the Store at
    http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/tales-from-the-mouse-house/id371928528
However it's looking for a feed at http://talescast.com/ so presumably this is the URL you entered in the redirect tag?
However, it's not a feed - it's the Personal Domain referral to your web page at
    http://talescast.com/Site_4/Home.html
As this is a web page and not a feed, iTunes can't read it. You have now painted yourself into a corner: as you need to enter the redirect tag in a feed to get iTunes to redirect, and iTunes can't read a feed at the UTRL you gave it, you can't redirect it.
You now have only two options. The first is to abandon the old feed altogether. You should get the old podcast removed from the Store - instructions here - and submit your new feed as an entirely new podcast. You will probably need to make a small change in the title, as a bug in the Store software may tell you that the podcast has already been submitted: and of course you will lose any subscribers or comments.
The other option is somewhat uncertain. iTunes Support is notoriously unhelpful, often sending back form answers which often don't deal with the actual problem, or referring the questioner to the Discussions Forum (which may have sent the questioner there in the first place): however it has been known for someone to persuade Support to shift their podcast to a new URL, so it's worth trying. It's probably just a matter of luck who you get. To contact iTunes Support, go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'.

  • Podcast feed in iTunes Store hasn't updated since January!

    Hi,
Our podcast feed which we have been running for over a year now stopped updating in iTunes Store and is still showing the latest podcast as Jan 2013 even though we put out 3 new episodes a week. If you are subscribed it works but people keep reporting to us about the iTS being months behind and it is bothering my employer.
Our server was running slow and I have since fixed the problem and it made no difference.
I reported a problem with the feed in iTunes and it made no difference.
I relocated the feed to another server using a different system and url which is much faster using 301 redirect and placed all files on a high speed cdn but this has made no difference either... Also updated images too.
I reported the problem again to iTunes and nothing changed.
Help I need to get this sorted as I don't know what else to do!!!!! We can't start a new one as we have too many subscribers.
    iTS page: http://www.itunes.com/podcast?id=564972472
Old feed URL (301 redirect): http://nexuschurch.com.au/podcast-feed/feed.php
    New feed URL: http://www.nexuschurch.com.au/podcast.rss
    Thanks,
    Seth

Your Store page lists 68 episodes running from 12 Jan 1012 to 19 Jan 2013. Clicking on the 'Subscribe' button brings up the feed at
    http://www.nexuschurch.com.au/podcasts.rss
This feed has 15 episodes running from February 3 to 11 March this year. The old feed URL you give successfully redirects to the feed now in use in a browser, and evidently also when subscribing in iTunes; but it looks as if it is not working in the Store page. The correct method for redirecting a feed involves placing a special tag in the original feed and is outlined here:
    http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/podcast.html#move
According to Apple's own documentation a 301 redirect should work in the Store, but it looks as if for some reason it isn't.
All I can suggest is that you place a copy of the feed at the old URL, adding the redirect link as described in my page, and remove the 301. This should move the Store to the present feed - it will probably take a couple of days or so to catch up.
If for some reason you are unable to set up the feed at the old URL you can try emailing them at podcasts 'at' apple.com and asking them to move the Store - give them the Store page URL and both feed URLs.

    Regards,

I tried to look at this feed, but I get an error when looking at the URL: http://thisweekinforex.com/blog/?feed=podcast
Here is the information Chrome returned:
The webpage at http://thisweekinforex.com/blog/?feed=rss2 has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.
Error 310 (net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS): There were too many redirects.
I too tried to generate my podcasts using PodPress with our WordPress.org site. I found it didn't work for me.
I finally disabled the plugins and tried Podcast Generator (http://podcastgen.sourceforge.net/) to generate my first working feed. Since then I have maintained the feed myself by directly updating the feed.xml file using my favorite text editor.
    Hope this helps!

  • Re-submitting my podcast feed after it has been deleted dosen't work?

    Hi
I had recently submitted a podcast feed for my company. However I made a mistake in asking to have it deleted so I could make some changes.
Now having completely revised my understanding of how the feed works, I have now re-submitted my feed:
    http://www.shogunaudio.co.uk/podcast.xml
When the podcast was up before it ran fine, and was very popular. My feed is valid, I can subscribe using the 'advanced - subscribe to podcast' in iTunes. But for some reason it won't register. I have re-submitted the same feed 3 times and I don't get a 'duplicate feed' warning, it just says that it is submitted and I will be getting an email, but nothing happens.
I desperately want to get this up and running asap, what is wrong here?
    Thanks

I can't really say what is going on, but I don't think submitting from another account or changing the IP number will have any effect. Normally in this situation you should change the title slightly, and also rename the feed - as I suggested, you could call it podcast1.xml (so that the URL changes) - these are the parameters affecting it. The only other possibility I can think of is that you have managed to introduce some problem into the feed which is causing it not to be accepted (though if you can subscribe from the 'Advanced' menu this seems unlikely).
Would you like to post the URL of the revised feed?

  • Podcast play problems: 3G MUCH different than 2G

I'm having many problems with my 3G nano:
    1. Create a playlist (not a smart playlist) and fill it with podcasts. Sync that playlist to the nano by choosing it in the Music tab on iTunes. The nano will show that some of its space is taken up, but you won't be able to play the podcasts on the nano. (This could easily be done on the 2G.)
Why is this important? Say you want to create a list of podcast episodes from different podcast feeds and you want to play it in a particular order. I do this frequently when planning to go to the gym or drive and when I don't want to have to choose each episode separately.
It is also important because automatically loading just certain podcasts on an iPod (three episodes of one podcast feed, all of your library of eighty podcasts from another feed) requires this level of loading a playlist since iTunes doesn't let you choose the number of episodes to load independently for each feed. (I know you can tell iTunes to only load checked episodes, but what if you have multiple iPods and want to load different versions on each iPod?)
    2. Load a bunch of podcasts on your nano. Using the on-the-go playlist feature, hold the center button down on a random set of episodes to build an on-the-go playlist. Where is the playlist? The next time you sync the nano, it will be visible in iTunes, but you won't be able to find it anywhere on the nano.
    3. Play just one podcast episode at a time. Any time you go to play a podcast episode, the nano will always play the next episode as well. (I partially solved this by realizing that placing the nano into shuffle mode will prevent this. That's nice. However, many times I want to listen to podcasts in chronological order rather than reverse-chronological order, and the nano won't do that without a playlist, but see #s 1 and 2 above.)

  • Made No Changes, But Podcast Feed Stopped Updated

My podcast feed has not updated for a month or so now and I cannot figure out why.
I use feedburner and have used the same procedure every episode no problem but it just started doing this.
What other info can I provide in order to troubleshoot?
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/FullMetalNerdcast
You'll notice the two most recent episodes don't have the "PLAY NOW" button while the rest of them do...

The latest episode to appear in both the iTunes Store and when subscribing in iTunes is 63. The two subsequent episodes do not have 'enclosure' tags containing the URLs of the media files, as is required by iTunes. Consequently iTunes does not see these episodes as containing media and so does not display them.
You have constructed your feed in FeedForAll, about which I'm afraid I can't advise: there is obviously something you need to do to make these episodes iTunes-compliant.

  • HT1819 Having Issues Getting iTunes to See My Podcast Feed Again

I had my podcast feed up here before, but due to a host migration, iTunes lost track of it.  It won't come up in searches, but I also get an error when I try to resubmit the feed, saying that the feed has already been submitted.  Ideas?

I can't see any problem with your feed. The image is OK and appears in 'My Podcasts' view when subscribing (it won't appear in List view); and your server accepts 'byte range requests' as required for iPhones. I don't know what 'http head requests' are.
So I can't offer a suggestion as to what is going wrong, except that there have been instances of the Store rejecting feeds in error because of some bug. I would suggest waiting a day or so, or perhaps until the weekend is over, and trying again.
If you re-submit it you may be told it has already been submitted (another bug) - you would have to change the title slightly to get round this (you could change it back once accepted, though I would suggest you don't need the words 'Podcast feed' anyway).

  • Can't search for podcast feed

Hey guys, I've recently submitted a podcast feed to iTunes...it was verified and accepted, and I can click the link they gave me to subscribe to it, but when I search for it I get nothing....any ideas???
    OLD   Windows 2000

How about some details? Name of the feed? Category you submitted it for?
Is your feed validated? Run it through the validator at http://www.feedvalidator.org to make sure there aren't any obvious problems with your feed. Apostrophes can sometimes cause big headaches.
Be aware that some of the categories have thousands of podcasts, so it is easy to miss your podcast in the alphabetical listing. And some podcasters do stupid tricks of putting spaces, exclamation marks and other symbols in the front of their podcast title so they will be listed higher up on the listing. Make sure you scroll down to the real listing: the alphabetical portion. Mike

  • Is there any way to overwrite the tags of podcast feed automatically?

I'm looking for an addon or plugin that lets me overwrite the tags on my podcast feeds. Basically, there are several podcast feeds that I subscribe to that either have horribly tagged files or simply no tags at all. I'd like to be able to have iTunes automatically set the artist for certain feed tags automatically. I have found a few other podcast downloaders that offer this, however not all of my feeds work and the interface is not as good as iTunes.
Any suggestions? It's driving me batty!

Have you got any idea on how to answer this problem that I'm having..?
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2617801&tstart=15
Sure, I've addresed the "merging podcast series together" issue in your other thread. Sadly we can't do that via a script as yet, however we can update other information provided we know how to identify the items of interest and what values we want to fix.
Going back to my example of podcast categories here is an edited section of my current script for correcting missing/unwanted values:
    Select Case .Album
      Case "Ask A Ninja","Ask A Ninja - iPod"
        .Category="Ask A Ninja"
        .AlbumArtist="Ask A Ninja"
      Case "The Pod Delusion"
        .Category="Skepticism"
        .Artist="The Pod Delusion Podcast"
        .AlbumArtist="The Pod Delusion Podcast"
    End Select
In my case each podcast I want to change can be identified by its Album value so having identified the series I can then correct one or more values. When all the values are corrected the episode will no longer appear in my smart playlist of Podcasts To Fix. I currently pre-select these items before calling the script but I'm pretty sure I can make it check the contents of a specific named playlist without too much trouble. You mentioned that some of yours don't have the *Podcast Name* set (which is the same as album) so what other field (or part thereof) would you use to identify them?
Adding artwork at the same time as other changes should be simple enough. Simply save the desired artwork image as Folder.jpg in the podcast folder and I'll include a routine to embed it. That said, there are no smart playlist rules to distinguish items with & without artwork however I have a generic script called CreateFolderArt which can update local folder artwork and then embed the same art into any tags that are missing it.
My current FixPodcasts script is still a little short of comments showing how you might edit it but I'll try to post something suitable either later tonight or tomorrow evening.
