Podcast - Getting Started

Hello everyone!
I have been running a video blog for almost two years now but recently I decided to start a video podcast (once a week). Yesterday I released episode 1, when I say release I mean I uploaded it to vimeo and share it via a post on my blog (www.greensoda.tv) as I do with all my posts. A couple viewers suggested I create a video podcast on itunes for it so that they could download it and have it on the go. I figured why not, the more exposure the better, right? That's when I started researching how to submit a podcast to itunes. It seems pretty stright forward from what I read, but i have a few questions before a proceed.
I get that I need somewhere to host the episodes (the video files themselves). My main site/blog is greensoda.tv which is hosted by squarespace.com - this is where i publish my content. Squarespace limits my file uploads to 20mb, therefore uploading video to that server is out of the question. I also own avillabon.com and have a hosting plan for it of 10gb (storage) and 1tb (bandwidth) with GoDaddy. Since avillabon.com is a personal website that only uses 170mb of the 10gb provided I thought I might use it to host my episodes. Im sorry if this is a bit confusing, I just want to give you all the info possible. Is this a setup that would work?
I went ahead and uploaded the video to a new directory I created on avillabon.com:

Does this sound like the correct setup? If so, how do I create the xml file so that i can submit it to Itunes?
One more thing.. itunes states they will not provide any way to track downloads. This is something I'd like to have available. What are the workarounds for this?

Please start by reading this page which gives you some basic information - it's about audio podcasts but the basic principles are the same:

You could hand-write the feed following my guidelines, just entering the URLs of your video media files - this will work fine. It doesn't matter in the least where you host either the media files or the feed: the files are referenced in the feed (by absolute URLs, not relative, i.e. including the http:// and the server name) and you submit the feed to iTunes. There are various online services which can host a podcast though I don't know how well they work with video - the problem is that you have very little control over things. On a Mac there are several programs which will create podcast feeds for you, but I can't advise about Windows.
iTunes does not track downloads. It couldn't even if it wanted to, because once someone subscribes the iTunes Store is no longer involved - their own iTunes application reads the feed and downloads the files directly. The only way to track downloads is on the server itself - iTunes offers suggestions on this:

However it's a technical matter to do with running a server and I can't advise on it.

Getting Started with Podcasting - need some direction/help

I need some information on how to get started Podcasting. Any good online resources, software, etc.
I have looked at garageband3 on my iMac and it seems to be quite good, but what else is out there and does anyone have any tips or suggestions on getting started?

I still have GB 2 so I don't know about GB's podcasting abilities (though some of the questions I see here suggest it's not all that wonderful).
I use, and would recommend, Podcast Maker:

You make your podcast using GB or whatever program you want, and save it as an MP3 file. You then open it in Podcast Maker and add the summary and description fields, and if you want it to be an enhanced podcast you add chapters and the artwork. It will then upload it to your iDisk or the server of your choice, create the XML file, and ping the Apple Store if required. All this is seamless and easy to use.

Getting Started on a podcatcher

I am a computer science student, and I want to work on a project that I have been thinking about for awhile now on my break..
I want to write a java podcatching client....
I have found on sourceforge a c++ based client, that I am starting to dig through to get some ideas on how to get started...
This is my idea for my basic approach..
I want to go to the url and use a program (or class) such as wget for bash to get the webpage. I am planning on putting this into a stringbuffer...
then I will use string tokenizer and xml parser to get the data from within the podcast class....

Design? Well, you said something like "I want to build a hospital, I think I will put it in a building, how does that sound?" Sounds okay but you need a little more detail in your design.
The java.net.URL class is the one you're looking for.
I wouldn't store things in files, unless of course my design called for them to be stored in files. In which case I would. It depends.

How to post a XCelsius in the BPC Web Application Getting Started page

Hi Experts,
I'm new using BPC 7.5 on NetWeaver. When opening the Getting Started tab in the BPC Web Application there is a white page that I would want to fill with content. This content should be a XCelsius Dashboard linked to the Query or InfoCube on which I`m planning. Creating the XCelsius Dashboard is not the problem, but to insert it in the Getting Started panel of the BPC Web application. Has anyone an idea how to do it or how to proceed. Ideas or a little how-to would be perfect.

if you hid the menu bar and the navigation bar simply press the alt button, this will bring back the menu bar and form there you can right click and select which bars you want shown

With Open ESB CD in hand, how do I get started?

I spent time at the Open ESB booth at JavaOne 2007 talking with the Sun representatives and engineers about Open ESB.
I'm glad I did, but I'm having a heck of a time getting started.
I have all of the requirements set-up running on Solaris 10 development server.
I've used the Service Oriented Architectures using BPEL from Java BluePrints, which really helped, but I feel I don't know enough yet to apply it towards real world projects yet.
What other resources are recommened to learn more about SOA, BPEL on the JBI Framework?

Pages 2.0 will not get past the "getting started" screen

i just updated pages to 2.0 on ipad 2 retina (ios 7.0.2) and now i cannot open pages, it will not get past the "getting started" screen
has anyone else experienced something similar?

Had the same problem. This sovled it for me:
Just let it load.
In Keynote, I didn't have so many documents, so the freeze didn't take too long- that's how I noticed it's just a freeze while loading.
For pages it took much longer. You can also turn off iCloud in settings for Pages, Keynote, etc. open it, re-enable iCloud in settings app again and quick switch back to pages (double-click home button). It will freeze up again, but after a while after all documents have been pulled from iCloud, it will be back to normal.

When trying to work with Agilent 34401A multimeter (serial RS-232 connection), HP34401A Getting Started.vi gives always the message: "Error 1073807369 occurred at Old VISA Open ".

Baud rate and parity are set correctly, RS-232 cable is also connected correctly. My QuickBasic program has no problems to read and write to the Multimeter. It is obviously a software problem: the same error is persistent if I disconnect RS-232 cable.
I downloaded NI-VISA 2.6 for Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP frorm digital.ni.com and installed it. But it did not help.

So, can anyone tell me\help me on why that one isn't starting ? I reinstalled this 6 times and still can't figure out the problem... (as you saw, I even replaced the tns hostname with 127.0.0.1 out of paranoia). It's seriously driving me mad. Every topic I searched for (from the problem itself to even a step-by-step for dummies) shows an install, then the interface working... I see some questions regarding "I can't connect to..." but most are unanswered :(

jgarry: I believe what you explained may be related to the fact some reported the DB doesn't work properly when the event log is full (I just emptied mine so it doesn't apply). Normally I disable it but without it started, the DB is not working properly (not that I can get it started anyway).
There was a post on a site I found hinting at 3 things:
1. ORACLE_HOME must be defined as an env-var
2. ORACLE_SID must be defined as an env-var
3. there might be a problem with spfile
Regarding those:
1. shouldn't the setup declare it automatically ? I don't have it declared, but I added it (no change)As Orafad pointed out, Windows is different. It does have a search hierarchy it follows to figure out what the environment should be. So first, unset what you set and go into a cmd window and:
sqlplus sys as sysdba

2. same as above, except I am not sure what SID to add so I didn't declare it ... The only 2 I have are PLSExtProc and CLRExtProc in tnsnames by default. I tried with each but the only thing that changes is instead of getting the shared memory realm error I get a TNS adapter error... trading one error for another is not funFor XE, the ORACLE_SID is XE (unless you do screwy things to change it). So now that I see you had some other db installed before, I suspect an environment collision. Delve into your registry and see what oracle definitions you have - this is a lot of work, things are spread around some, but searching for oracle is usually a good start. I'm not up on the 11.2 details (or others, really, I just have vague memories of seeing MOS notes that purported to explain clean up entirely, without truly doing so, and I avoid Windows as much as possible). I would uninstall XE, uninstall the other one, then search the registry for any leftover stuff, then install XE and see if it all magically works. But that is a fairly brain-dead way to deal with it.
So that said, you can set up a little batch file to set your environment in a cmd window (specifically ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID), and go into sqlplus / as sysdba and give the startup command. If you get the memory realm error, you have one of those wrong, if you get the tnsnames errors you can fix those following the advice in Ed Steven's blog. You can run tnsping to see which tnsnames.ora you are using, if you use one (which is determined by an @ sign in your connection string, which you should not need to connect locally, but if you do, you need to have XE defined in the tnsnames.ora, and may need to set TNS_ADMIN to get the right one).
Your tnsnames.ora should have an entry like this:

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Yourcomputer.yourdomian.whatever)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SERVER = DEDICATED)

)You might want to search for any tnsname.ora on your computer, the default correct one would be: C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\network\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora
3. I don't have that file in the folder but I suspect it might be created on a first successful launch of the DBWithout an spfile you need to use a pfile, then create a pfile from spfile. But there should be one at C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\dbs\SPFILEXE.ORA (if you used default installation).

I did have WAMP installed at a point (uninstalled it) but if it were to conflict I guess SETUP would tell me (since the XE license doesn't let you use 2 DBs at the same time)Is that some mysql thing? That shouldn't interfere. It's only installing multiple Oracle products related some what to the Oracle database that can be a problem, and normally isn't with the more recent stuff.

Trying to use a new, larger external hard drive for my Time Machine backup. However, every time I start the backup, it gets started then fails. And, I can't delete the few files that did save on the external. Sort of a catch 22. Any ideas?

Is it a USB hard drive? USB hard drives have the problem of not giving full speed if they are hooked up on the same bus as keyboards and mice. Double check your profiler to make sure that is not a problem. If it is Firewire, make sure there aren't other firewire devices in use at the same time. I recommend not only keeping a Time Machine backup, but also a clone, and if you do use Time Machine, to make sure the Time Machine drive or partition is at least twice the size of the original drive.

I want to state somethings that I have found so confusing in getting started with Oracle Business Intelligence.
Whenever someone attempts to get in the Oracle BI world, there seems to be a myriad of products, tools and suites that one may not really know where to start.
Up till now, I have not been able to pick or find a resource on what is which. Sorry to compare products, I have been taken a look at Microsoft Database and its associated BI solutions, and indeed it was relatively much easier to say this does this. But for as long as a I have been in Oracle Database usage and putting my hand on work using its tools, I find it hard differentiating
Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition from
Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition One and also from
Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Plus from
Oracle Essbase
or differentiating
Hyperion Enterprise from
Oracle BI Applications
and why I should not install tools like Oracle BI Publisher or Oracle Data Miner or Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) when I have any of the above installed.
Thank God for Oracle 11g. The confusion is a lot reduced, because with 11g, almost everything seem to be in the right place.
So, my request is that someone should please show me a reference that tell what is different from what with respect to the above mentioned BI products.

All in all I would say you are getting confused and you are mixing too many products in the same bag. Sure you could say it's "confusing" to have so many products. But if you were to go to the supermarket without knowing what to buy, wouldn't that be confusing as well? Rather than looking at "what's available" you should look at what sort of product you need and based on that search which products meet your needs. Or would you go to the supermarket and ask to see and understand what every product does before buying what you need?
