Podcast in AppleTv 3.0.1

Welcome
Tomorow I bought AppleTV and update it to 3.0.1, working fine but I have small dificults with podcast, because I can see it directly from the internet, but then I want to download this to the HDD nothing happends, what I doing wrong ? I`m waiting abaut 2 hours and without results.
Sorry for my english.

You can download podcasts to your Apple TV's HDD from the device itself or from iTunes if the ATV is synced. If you only want to view/listen to a podcast from your ATV, find the ones you want and make them a favorite.
If you want to sync podcasts to your ATV's HDD and other devices (iPod etc.), subscribe to the podcasts you want from iTunes and then sync them to the ATV. (To sync them to the ATV do a Custom sync from iTunes and select the Podcast tab.)

  • View images from enhanced podcasts on AppleTV (2nd gen)

Is there a way to view the images embedded in enhanced audio podcasts through AppleTV? I listen to a number of photography podcasts that discuss particular images but the audio isn't much good if I cannot see the image. Thanks.

An example would be any audio podcast of the Martin Bailey Photography Podcast or the History of Photography podcast by Jeff Curto... Is there a way to view the images embedded in enhanced audio podcasts through AppleTV?
Okay... I selected the Jeff Curto "Photo History - Class 6 Spring 11 - Photography and Painting" podcast for test purposes. The easiest way to view this specific file on the TV2 device seems to be to simply lie to iTunes.
    1) Download the podcast in your normal manner.
    2) Delete the podcast from iTunes and send it to your trash can.
    3) Drag the file back to your desktop.
    4) Change the M4A (".m4a") file extension to M4V (".m4v").
    5) Re-import the file to your iTunes library.
Your audio podcast will now load/play on the TV2 as if it were a video podcast.

  • "Apple Quick Tip of the Week" podcast crashes AppleTV

I have iTunes set to download the Apple Quick Tip Of The Week (AQTOTW) podcasts, and then sync them to my AppleTV. Nearly every one of the AQTOTW podcasts that I play causes the AppleTV video to stutter and eventually, the white Apple logo appears. After a few seconds, I am seeing the main menu.
None of the other podcasts that I view on the AppleTV have this problem.
The software on the AppleTV is up to date. iTunes runs on a Macmini which is running Leopard (up to date as well).
The AQTOTW are very useful, how can I view them on the AppleTV?

There are a number of good hints in this post, many of which apply in Leopard.

  • Subcribe to podcast on AppleTV 2.1

Maybe I am missing something here, but I thought you could subsribe to a podcast on the AppleTV 2.1?
I know how to add a podcast, say "Democracy Now" to "my favorites" but I still have to download each episode individually, which is not what podcasts are supposed to be like.
So, what am I missing here?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
AFAIK, you cannot subscribe to podcasts through the tv.

  • Homeshare won't stream podcasts to AppleTV

I just updated AppleTV to 4.4.2(3160) and now none of my podcasts from my office computer's "library" will stream to the AppleTV. Instead all I get is the spinning timer ball. Netflix, Photostream and music all work fine. I CAN go to the podcast section under "Internet" but it will not homeshare podcasts from the library. Infact I can actually see all the items in the "library" but when you try and play them it will just show the spinning timer ball for hrs.

There is an issue with Webroot's InternetSecurity Essentials!! The DEFAULT settings in the firewall prevent the streaming of podcasts from iTunes to AppleTV via Home Share.
Immediately after selecting "Allow All Traffic" under Webroot Security Essential's Firewall, podcasts began to stream.
After requesting help from Webroot they suggested (via form letter email) to re-install the software. They seem to not be able to understand what default means. Re-installing just puts the default settings right back on the system. Their support is awful.
I still have no solution for the correct or allowable settings for the firewall.
Firewall currently shows the following allowed communication in reference to Apple...
    iCloud
    iTunes
    Bonjour
    AppleMobile helper
    AppleUpdate

  • Converting to AppleTV

    Hi guys,
After playing with AppleTV I like it enough to convert my collection over. I know how to convert but what to I need to do to get them sorted properly in apple tv? Do I just need to getinfo on each movie and manually update it or is there an automatic way to do this?
Also how do I tag items so they appear as "music videos" as opposed to just "videos"?
Finally, I have a playlist which has music in it marked as podcast. AppleTv sees this as an empty playlist. Is there a way to tag them in such a way so ATV recognizes them correctly?
    Thanks in advance.

You can certainly use Get Info, but I've usually found that if I alter metadata for a file that isn't in the main itunes media folder but say referenced in iTunes from an external drive, that the metadata is not updated in the file itself, which is a nuisance if you then copy the file to another iTunes.
There is a drop down for music video in one of the Get Info tags, at least on a Mac.
iTunes cannot collect metadata automatically except for missing album artwork, and then it often fails in my experience.
You have other otions for tagging original file BEFORE adding to iTunes including:
MetaX / Subler on Mac - Subler is probably preferred these days.
MetaX for Windows which is I believe in a more up to date state than MetaX for Mac.
For the playlist I guess you need to change the media kind to musci for each file, even if one is a podcast.

  • Autosync?

Am I alone with the problem of my Apple TV not autosyncing? Specifically, as new podcasts are downloaded into iTunes they will not automatically sync to the ATV. I can force a sync by restarting the ATV or manually syncing from my iMac. Yes, autosync is checked in iTunes preferences for the ATV. (Wireless connection via a Time Capsule.)
    Any insight would be appreciated.

not a solution at all to your specific problem, but kind of a workaround.. and imho an even better solution than syncing podcasts..
appleTV has a feature called podcast favorites.
    what you do is..
    1) you go to through the iTunes store on the appleTV and find the podcasts you are interested in an save them as favorites
    2) then any time you want to watch or listen to a podcast you just go to favorites all you favorite podcasts are listed there
    3) click on the podcast you want to watch right now, the episodes are conveniently listed with the latest ones on top..
    4) click on the episode you are interested in.. but instead of clicking download you click "view" (think it's view.. but in any case it's the other option instead of "download").. the podcast streams directly from the internet (kinda like when you watch a rented movie)
the podcasts play immediately, no delay at all, just as if it was already downloaded to the device so there's no difference there.
it's good since it doesn't take any longer to get to the podcast you want to play or for the podcast to start to play once you press play. it just kinda works like podcasts on demand and as an added bonus you don't have lots of podcasts filling up your appleTV hard drive.. as i said imho it's actually WAY better than syncing podcast or even streaming them.. it watch and listen to all my podcast on the appleTV through this method.

  • Playlists for podcast have disappeared in the latest appleTV update!

Does anyone know what happened to podcast playlists? After updating my appleTV over the weekend the ability to view my podcasts through playlists have disappeared. I have set up individual playlist on my Mac separating my podcast/vidcast into playlist that made listening to my podcasts on my iPod and viewing video podcasts on my appleTV or iPad much easier. Am I missing something? I primarily use my appleTV to watch Netfix and view my video podcast. With this disappearing the ability to watch vidcast has become more difficult and I will probably use my appleTV less.
I have also noticed that ios5 took out a number of podcast features (2x speed, 30 second skip, chapters, etc.). Is their a reason they have done this, because I don't see any advantage to taking out useful features that they previously had in ios4. While I am happy with the majority of the features on ios5, what they have done with podcast have made ios5 useless for me to listen to podcast, because I always listen to them at 2x speed. Hopefully Apple decided to add these features back, but until then I guess I will have to use my ipod nano to listen to podcasts.

Never mind, don't know if this is new or not, but podcast playlist can be turned on/off in setting / audio/video / playlist options / music only or all.
When I updated to 4.4.1 my appleTV basically defaulted/reset so I had to set it up all over again. Just needed to look a little more. Also, with the podcast features removed in ios5, I guess I just jumped to the conclusion that it was pulled from the appleTV.
That said, I feel apple needs to get more consistent with some of their apps on different OS's. Too many feature variation from one to another.

  • Appletv not updating podcasts - has apple sold a product then dropped support after 1 year?  May 2014

appletv not updating podcasts - has apple sold a product then dropped support after 1 yera?  May 2014 - None of the podcasts are being updated on appletv.  Running itunes 11.2 and it shows podcasts there.  Apple looks more like windows every day.

Before blaming Apple, was any troubleshooting actually attempted?  If so, what was done?
Or was it simply easier to jump to conclusions?

  • AppleTV in itunes missing movies/tv shows/music/podcasts tabs

A friend's AppleTV only shows two tabs when in itunes: settings and photos.
My AppleTV (1st gen) shows all the usual tabs (settings/movies/tv shows/music/podcasts) and my settings tab has a Sync box where I can set my sync settings - my friends does not. All he has in his settings tab is the top box which states the name, capacity, software version and serial number.
He's using iTunes10 and his AppleTv (gen1) is on version 3.0.2
Any idea why he can't see what I can with mine? Any suggestions? His AppleTV shows up in iTunes fine, and is connected to the internet.

was your imac running OSX 10.5x, and is the new mac pro running OSX 10.6x? I wonder if the first generation of AppleTVs isn't properly snow leopard compatible? My friend's imac that he's got his AppleTV connected to is running Snow Leopard (my AppleTV is connected to an old G5 running 10.5x and as I say, it works perfectly)....hmmmmm

  • How do you fix a phantom podcast episode that won't go away on AppleTV?

Anybody encounter this or have any suggestions on how to fix this?
    In a nutshell ...
On my MacBook Pro I am subscribed to many podcasts, one of which is GFW Radio. This MacBook Pro syncs with my AppleTV, so all podcasts are on the AppleTV. My podcasts all all marked as AutoDelete. I had listened to one episode of GFW Radio on the AppleTV, and when it synced with the MacBook Pro, that episode was marked as Not New. So on the MacBook Pro, it was deleted on next refresh. But on the AppleTV, it still exists. So I get the following error when I sync the MacBook Pro with the AppleTV:
<quote>"GFW Radio weekly podcast - 05/07/2008" was not copied to the AppleTV because it could not be found.</quote>
    The Phantom Menace strikes!!!
I have reset the AppleTV to factory defaults, presumably wiping it out, but it did not fix it.
I also unsubscribed from the podcast on the MacBook Pro and refreshed and synced so as to remove it, presumably, but no dice. Once I re-subscribed to GFW Radio, that phantom podcast episode was still there on the AppleTV.
Anybody know how to fix this?
Thx muchly in advance for your help!!!

I was searching for help on a similar problem and found this post. No sense in starting another one . . .
I sync some free News related podcasts to my AppleTVs every night - NBC Nightly News, MSNBC Countdown, etc. When I go to my list of Podcasts, there are podcasts listed from years ago that I no longer subscribe to (LOST Podcast, Xbox podcast, etc), and I can not find a way to get rid of these.
When I look in my podcast folder in my iTunes library, there is nothing there for these podcasts. I don't even know where the AppleTV found these, as I unsubscribed from them years before I bought my first AppleTV. I bought and hooked up my second AppleTV this weekend, and sure enough, it is finding the same phantom podcasts.
Any ideas on how to flush the podcast directory to get rid of the unwanted podcasts??

  • Podcast Missing from New AppleTV...

Anyone else notice that that section is missing from the GUI of the new appleTV? are they really getting rid of Podcasts? I'd be sorry to see that go as i'm an avid user of Podcasts.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was concerned about this, I would say 50% of my usage of my current Apple TV is video podcasts. Interestingly, reviews never talk much about this but I find you have pretty good on demand content via podcasts.

  • Podcasts do not appear on AppleTV

I've been trying to watch a few podcasts on my AppleTV but when I attempt to access them I get the little warning message that says there are no podcasts on my AppleTv and that I should sync it with an iTunes library.
I already have it synced to my iTune library and can access my music and photos just fine but no luck with Podcasts for some reason. Has anybody else seen this? When I click on my AppleTV in the devices section of iTunes I only get two tabs: Summary and Photos. There is nothing specific listed for podcasts. Am I missing some little checkbox somewhere to allow podcasts to stream/sync?
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

Eric you have linked your tv to the wrong type of library. You need to set up a primary library to be able to sync podcasts and other content to the tv.

  • AppleTV won't download podcasts

    Hi,
I have a first generation AppleTV.
For the last several months I have been unable to download podcasts on it - both audio and video. Also HD movie trailers don't play - this is isn't n issue for me as I don't watch them but I thought it might be connected.
Does anyone know why this might be? I have searched Google for solutions but I can't find any mention of this problem.
    Thank you.

The podcasts were videos and my iPod isn't a video. Mistake on my part.

  • In the Movie/Podcast menu on my 3rd Gen AppleTV how do you reset the "Unwatched" menu to "Movies or "Podcasts"?

On my 3rd Generation AppleTV, in the Movie and Podcast Menus, the menus read "Unwatched", "Genres" and "Name". How do I change the "Unwatched" to "Movies" and "Podcasts".
    Thanks...

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Since Movies and Podcasts are not options to change to, I assume you mean change unwatched to by name or genre.
You need to keep scrolling up until the menu options are highlighted then use the left and right arrows to change selection.
