Podcast mp3 to podcast section in itunes

i have some podcasts downloaded on disc in mp3 format, is it possible to add these to the podcast section in itunes, and if not, is there a way i can play my songs in music library on shuffle without playing these podcasts?

I have a similar problem, for some reason one specific podcast from a subscribed series I get has moved into the standard library. How would I change it back. Is it something to do with ID3 tags? Please help!

  • Is it possible to add mp3 downloads to the podcast section of your iPod?

I understand that you can download mp3's from the internet and drag them from your computer files to iTunes, and this is a nice way to get songs that are unavailable elsewhere. But from what I can tell, podcasts don't work like that. You can't just drag an mp3 file into your iPod's podcast section on iTunes. Is there another way to do this? Is it even possible?
P.S. - I'm not sure if this helps or if anyone gives a crap, but my reason for trying to do this has to do with the recent Welcome To Night Vale "Condos" live show recording that was released, for those of you who are familiar. It was released as a song on iTunes and on Bandcamp as an mp3. My OCD can't deal with having an hour long podcast that's part of a continuous storyline shuffled in with my music when it should be coupled with the rest of the Welcome To Night Vale episodes.

    I have two three suggestions:
    1. I may be wrong, but if you change the MP3 to a Podcast, it may be placed in a different "group" to the items that were downloaded as Podcasts, especially if the relevant tags are different. So it wouldn't be coupled with the Podcast episodes. If Condos was never intended as a Podcast, the titles etc in the MP3 tags are likely to be different to the Podcast. You would then need to identify which fields needed changing in order to group them togethre. I have no idea of any unwanted consequences if you do that.
If you want to try this, select the "Condos" in your iTunes Library, and click on File/Get Info/Options>Media Kind=Podcast (in Windows, right-click/Get Info/Options>Media Kind=Podcast). As soon as you click OK, it will disappear from the Music Library and you will have to look for it in Podcast Library and see if it does drop in with the other ones. You will also need to set Condos to Skip when shuffling, otherwise it will continue to be selected when playing songs from your Music Library. See the next paragraph.
    2. Alternatively, since one thing you are keen on is to stop the album playing when shuffling through your Music Library, set Condos to Skip when shuffling as mentioned above, but don't bother trying to move it to Podcasts. Then, when you are playing your music in shuffle mode, it will not be played. (Podcasts are set this way by iTunes when they are downloaded as Podcasts). To do this, select the "Condos" in your iTunes Library, and click on File/Get Info/Options>Skip when shuffling (in Windows, right-click/Get Info/Options>Skip when shuffling).
    3. I've just thought of this idea while typing this.
Change the Podcasts to Music; File/Get Info/Options>Media Kind=Music. Of course, the episodes will now disappear from the Podcasts Library but be added to the Music Library. Once in the Music Library, the Skip when shuffling option (which was set in Podcasts) will still be on, so once again, they will not be played when shuffling your music. If you wanted, you could now add Condos and the Podcasts episodes to an exclusive "Welcome To Night Vale" Playlist. (Since the Podcasts app on the iPod Touch now has such an odd arrangement for Podcasts, it's why I have not suggested creating a Playlist of "Condos" with the "Podcasts". I'm not convinced that it would work as you need it to do.)
    Any use to you?

  • Is there a way to combine separate podcast directories in iTunes

I recently had to do a wipe and reinstall of my system. One of the reasons for doing this is because I could not get iTunes to consolidate my libraries, so they were split between two external drives. After I did the wipe, I realized I did not save the library file, so I went to iTunes and did an "Add to Library" on both drives with iTunes Libraries. This worked great for the most part, however several, though not all, of my Podcasts show up in two different directories with the same name in iTunes. When I look at the library, all of the files are actually in one directory on the external drive.
What I would like to do is combine the two Podcast directories currently showing in iTunes with the same name into one Podcast directory. To be clear, under the Podcast section of iTunes, I gave two folders with the same name that contain all of the podcasts for that show. There is no duplication and when I check the Library where the files are kept, they are all in one folder.
    Thanks for your help.

If you have a feed through feedburner.com, then it will track stats of subscribers. It even breaks down which of those subscribers is using iTunes, Safari, or other RSS and podcatching software.

  • Is it possible to manually add podcasts to the podcast section of an iphone

    Hello everyone.
I've been trying to figure out a way to manually add podcasts to my iphone and have them show up in the podcast section. I can add podcasts fine to the music section, that works and they play fine but they can be hard to find amid the thousands of songs I have.
When I try to manually add podcasts to the podcasts section in itunes, I get the sad red circle with a line through it, instead of the happy blue plus sign that I get when I add podcasts to the music section.
Podcasts that I download are classified correctly, but the ones I want to add can't be downloaded anywhere anymore (licensing restrictions I believe).
Am doing something wrong or is this the way itunes is meant to work? Something misconfigured maybe?
I'm using itunes 7.6.2.9 on Vista.

For some reason known only to Apple, only files downloaded through iTunes can be in the podcast section of iPod. As far as I know there is still no supported way around this.
Occassionaly someone reports getting around issue by manually editing the file using a hex editor. This involves comparing iTunes downloaded file with non-iTunes downloaded file to find the difference. Once found, the equivalent setting in other files can be changed. I have never done it though.

  • ITunes created a second podcast section in my library, but my iPod can only sync with one

    Hi,
I've tried searching for something related to this, so apologies if this has been covered already.
Under "Library" on the lefthand side of iTunes I have
    Music
    Movies
    Podcasts
    Podcasts
    Itunes U
    Books
Note that there are now two listings for podcasts. I have no idea how this happened. I've been using iTunes on this Mac, subscribing to podcasts, for just short of five years. Yesterday I was downloading some new items as podcasts from Librivox.org -- something I have done before, including in recent days -- and the new items unexpectedly went into the (just then created) second podcast section under "library". Not surprisingly, my iPod will only recognize one podcast section (happens to be the newer one).
Again, though this happened while at librivox.org, I have downloaded stuff from them clicking on the same things before, including just a day or two ago, and this never happened before.
    1) How do I get all podcasts into one folder so I can choose from my whole library of podcasts when syncing with my iPod?
    2) If item 1 above is not possible, at least how can I prevent this from happening again?
    Many thanks!

  • Itunes 11.2, the podcasts section crippled.

I have downloaded and installed Itunes 11.2 and I am afraid this was a terrible mistake.
All the changes made to the podcasts section, although promising are so buggy, that the experience has become unbearable.
The refresh button, simply does not work when you click it, it may after a few minutes, not seconds, minutes!
When you change your preferences in order to keep or delete episodes, auto delete played episodes or limit the amount, as soon as you quit the app, they go back to defaults.... useless.
The amount of memory that the app takes over all in the system goes up to 2 0r 3 gigs at times!
The app stops responding from time to time, it does not crash, but stays there unusable.
Podcast download speeds are terrible, pausing them and restarting sometimes does the trick, but the user has to pause and resume each podcast manually until the app decides to understand that one does have a decent internet connection, and then, only then would it start downloading at proper speeds
    This update is just TERRIBLE!!!
Would you guys at apple, say something about this? Can we go back to the prior version of itunes? This is unacceptable.

I think i might have stumbled upon a solution.
After thinking for a while about preferences not sticking after quiting i just went to see if somtething was up with that.
Go to you user folder > Library > Preferences and look for the com.apple.itunes.plist
Have you got a lot of .com.apple.itunes.plist that add an extra " . " and 3 or 4 random letters?
I had about 60 of them, got the lot, deleted every single .plist file that had the word itunes in it, and restarted.
Bingo, my itunes got a lot quieter, my podcasts are downloading at normal speeds and things seems to be back to as what they should be.
I am crossing my fingers and hope that this is a solution for the podcasts going crazy on me.
Now as far as the memory management, that's a different story, itunes is hogging  2.86 gbs at the time of my writing this,,,,,,

  • How to change the author and "podcast website," in iTunes store?

    Hi,
my itunes store page is http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-fallacy-a-day-podcast/id469610386 and my podcast is hosted on a free account at Podomatic.
It seems that the information on that page is drawn from the data on my Podomatic feed, including the "iTunes" page in my Podomatic account. All I ever did on iTunes is to go into the store section of iTunes and submit the rss URL.
I've read the FAQ but can't see how to change these features of my iTunes store page:
    1. On my itunes store page the title is: "The Fallacy-a-Day Podcast By The Fallacy-a-Day Podcast" but I would rather it be "The Fallacy-a-Day Podcast by fallacaday.com"
    2. Also on that page, under "Links" on the right, if you click Podcast website it takes you to fallacyaday.podomatic.com but I would prefer that iTunes store visitors are directed to my podcast's home page at fallacyaday.com.
As it stands, my homepage is being completely bypassed by some downloaders (although I do mention it in the podcast episodes themselves) and I have no metric on how many people are downloading the podcast. My Google Analytics indicate a constant number of visitors each day while the Podomatic bandwidth usage is increasing. I have no idea of what proportion of downloaders are doing so on Podomatic vs iTunes. Podomatic's own statistics (for the free account) are almost totally useless because they oscillate wildly from one day to the next.
Thanks to anyone who can offer help on these two questions!

Everything in the iTunes Store about your podcast is carried in the feed: the title is in the 'title' tag and the link in the 'link' tag. Although I'm not familiar with Podomatic my understanding is that you don't have access to the feed yourself, but have to set the details within Podomatic.
It should be easy enough to change the title by changing it wherever you originally set it. As to the link, I've seen others complaining that it directs to the podomatic site and can't be changed. Obviously they want to attract attention to their own service. I imagine this can't be changed but it's something you would need to take up with Podomatic.
Even if you had the correct link most visitors probably won't bother with it. If they are interested they will subscribe to your podcast in iTunes and listen to the episodes there - there's no reason to go to the site. iTunes does not provide usage statistics, and visits to your website aren't really relevant.
I'm afraid that the problem with all these online services is that they are what they are - they make it easy to get a podcast up and running but the facilities they provide may not always be exactly want you want and can't be changed.

  • How do I sync my iPod without grabbing the Video Podcasts from my iTunes?

    Hi,
I have searched and could not find the answer to this problem.
Anyway, I have a 5th gen iPod and am running it on a Mac with the latest iTunes. On the iPod options pane, I have selected to update only the selected Podcasts. I am leaving the podcasts that I do not want on my iPod (but want to keep on my Mac) unselected.
Now although it is true that the unselcted Podcasts to not appear in the Podcast section of my iPod, the files are still there and can be found by artist, album, etc.
How can I get around this? Basically, I have a few gigs of Video Podcasts that I do not want to carry on the iPod but do want o keep on my Mac in iTunes.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Bruno

Try going into iTunes preferences and click on the iPod icon (pod has to be linked up) and choose to "manually" update iPod. Will this help?

  • Podcast accepted by iTunes, but not showing on search results after days

I submitted a podcast to iTunes about a week ago and on the 20th I received an e-mail to say that it had been accepted onto iTunes.
Several days later, however, and it still won't show up on search results. When I search for the title of the podcast, 'At The End of The Day', it doesn't show up. However, when I search for the author, 'Leigh, Mark and Toby', it DOES show up! Obviously, I want people to be able to find the podcast through its title... can anybody please help me? Thank you!

Turned up fine for me, though it's not at the top of the page; you have to scroll down to the Podcasts section and it's the first item there.

  • The new Podcast storefront in iTunes... i don't like it

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but the podcasts storefront for iTunes have change. There is no more animation section, there is no more staff pick or newest section. There are only highlights and featured podcast.
I'm pretty deceived by this. This will kill the smaller podcasts. Right now, almost 75% of the featured stuff out there comes from the big networks and corporates.
    hmmm.... I don't like this...

  • Does anyone know how to delete a podcast episode from iTunes?

    Hello,
Myself and some comrades have been producing a podcast for a few weeks now. We were approved to be on the iTunes store, and subsequently available as a subscription thru iTunes... The problem is that for a few days the hosting site we're using wasn't working and we couldn't upload mp3 files, so we were publishing episodes and for the audio we were uploading them onto an alternate site and linking the audio to the published podcast so they would still be available for subscibers thru iTunes. Now, the hosting site is working again, and I'm trying to edit the episodes that were published using links to the alternate sites and change them so that they're using the audio from my hosting site. I've editted the episodes on the hosting site, but even after doing a 'podcast refresh' (ping) the old episodes are still showing up on itunes...
Anyone have any ideas on how to delete or edit individual episodes on itunes without deleting the entire podcast???
If you have an answer to this problem, or if this isn't making sense but u think u might know what i'm trying to ask please email me at iwantitnow (at) hush (nospam) com
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey there,
so here's the itunes store URL for the podcast i'm referring to:
    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=321340618
here's the URL for the podcast blog:
    http://anotherworldispossible.podbean.com/
I'm not sure if that's what ur asking for, but in case i'm wrong, here's what i think is the feed url:
    http://anotherworldispossible.podbean.com/feed/
You'll see what i mean if you see the podcast blog site, the post at the top, "Anarcho-Syndicalism" is published by uploading the mp3 onto the hosting site, the post underneath that, "the coming insurrection (part 2)" is when the upload function wasn't working, and it just has a link to the mp3 hosted on another site. (itunes subscribers still can listen to it, and it doesn't appear different, but for visitors who usually listen using a live stream from the host, it looks different) I'm trying to go from the second post's setup to the first post's setup without re-posting it and having the same file show up twice in itunes which has already happened. also, since i did that already (deleted the post, then re-published it), is there a way to delete the first file (episode) that still shows in itunes for subscribers to our channel??
thanks so much for your help!

  • I can't find iTunes U/podcast files in iTunes OR Windows Explorer.

There are some podcasts (mostly iTunes U) on my 5th gen iPod that I cannot delete. They show up in my iPod's menus, but they do not show up in any section of iTunes. I have used Windows to show hidden files and deleted some of them off my iPod through Windows Explorer (I still couldn't find all of them, and I went through every file on my iPod), but even after I deleted the files in Windows they still show up on my iPod after I eject it!
Does anyone have any ideas, short of wiping it clean and starting over, how I can delete these podcasts? It's driving me crazy.

I forgot to add that even though the files show in my iPod after being deleted while connected to Windows, they are not playable in the iPod. If I click play the iPod starts freaking out and not responding properly (the scroll wheel gets all jerky).
I did multiple soft resets and that did not fix the issue. Thanks all!

  • IPod Podcast List in iTunes Doesn't Show all Podcasts

    iTunes 11.1.1
    4th gen iPod Shuffle
I just refreshed all podcasts in iTunes.
Hooked up Shuffle to sync, went to Podcast tab & many podcasts that show up via iTunes Podcast section are not there...
I've never noticed this happen before.
    HELP!!
    Thanks

I don't know the cause of the problem you describe.  You may want to report it as a "bug" to Apple using the Feedback web page for iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
Also, since this is a problem related to iTunes (the app), and not directly related to using a shuffle, you may get additional replies by posting the question here (in the iTunes for Mac forum category)
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_for_mac
I can offer a possible "work-around."  On the shuffle's Podcasts "tab" in iTunes, at the bottom of the screen, there is a list called Include Episodes from Playlists.  On this list, you can select playlists in your iTunes library that have podcast episodes.
In your iTunes library, create a new playlist.  You can call it something line "iPod Podcasts," or whatever you want.  Add podcast episodes you want on the shuffle to this playlist.
NOTE:  Click the plus sign at the bottom of the sidebar to create a new playlist.  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
On this playlist, you can add a mix of episodes from multiple podcasts, and put the episodes in any desired playlist order (by dragging them around on the list or sorting by a column heading).
Back on the shuffle's Podcasts tab, select (checkmark) this playlist under Include Episodes from Playlists.  Click Apply to sync the selection, as well as the playlist itself, to the shuffle.
On the shuffle, you should be able to play the episodes from the separate podcast playlists (using VoiceOver to switch), or from the "iPod Podcasts" playlist.  To play podcasts from a (regular) playlist on a shuffle, you must set the shuffle's power switch to the play-in-order (middle) position.  The episodes play in playlist order.
If that works, I can provide additional info on using Smart Playlists to "automate" the process.  It may actually be more convenient than using the iPod's Podcasts tab to manage podcasts on the shuffle.
