Podcast names

hey guys, basically my question is, how do I change the name of my podcast, and how to i change the author name?

The podcast is defined by the 'feed' file, which you submitted to iTunes. The title of the podcast is carried in the 'title' tag, and your name in the 'itunes:author' tag and can be amended there - however I would assume that you aren't writing your feed by hand, so you will need to make these changes wherever in the program or service you are using to make your feed you entered this data in the first place. You can then re-publish the feed and the iTunes Store will pick up the changes, usually after a couple of days.
However there is one thing you should be cautious about - some programs or services derive the feed filename fro the podcast title, and if this is the case changing the title will change the feed filename and iTunes will no longer be able to find it. It's possible to redirect iTunes to another feed, but you have to be able to add a tag to the feed it is currently using. (The method is detailed here.)
If you have any further questions do post back, but please always include your feed and iTunes Store URLs, without which it often difficult to make any cogent comment.

The podcast "(Insert podcast name here)" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?
I'm getting a problem with podcast going missing. I have the following…
    1) Black 5th Gen iPod
    2) iTunes 7.1.1
    3) Windows XP Professional
    4) Various video & audio podcast
    5) Use of smart playlists
    a) I have customized each smart playlist
This is the problem... I download and listen to a podcast, on either the iPod or iTunes. I refresh then boom, the file winds up being missing. iTunes gives me a message: "The podcast "(Insert podcast name here)" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" The file is not in the default folder or recycle bin. Sounds like a Microsoft issue

  • Any danger changing a podcast name?

Hi, I want to be sure that changing my podcast' name in the xml will not affect the old subscribers (Will they still recieve the new episodes automatically?)
Or is there any other problems that can be due to a podcast name change?
    Thanks, Jean.

Not as long as you don't change the name of the feed file (and hence the URL) - be careful because I suspect that one or two programs or services derive the feed filename from the title.

  • How do i download podcast on my PC? Its asking me to type in the podcast name ending in xml but where do i find the rest ???

How do I download podcast onto my pc? I already do have iTunes. It ask me to type in podcast name ending in xml then click on install but where is the rest of the name?? where do I find this? Might be something simple I just seem to miss. Help!!! lol

The easiest way to subscribe to a podcast is locate it in a directory. There will normally be a link with the URL of the feed. This is like any other link but your podcatcher, iTunes in this case, knows how to read the text file stored there to access the individual episodes and download or stream them for you. If you know the name of the podcast, and it is registered with iTunes you can go into the podcasts section of your iTunes library, click iTunes Store, then use the search box at the top right. If you have the full URL for the podcast you can use File > Subscribe to Podcast..., or you can use a link on the providers web site.
Using the iTunes directory is usually the easiest way.
Click on the link for the podcast (4) to open the next screen,
and either subscribe (5) or download individual episodes without subscribing (6).

  • Long, unwieldy Podcast name in iTunes

    Hi there,
When someone clicks on the "subscribe" button on my site (barrycooper.com) and iTunes opens, the Podcast name is shown as http://www.barrycooper.com/barrycooper.com/Media/rss.xml
How do you make this something more user-friendly, eg barrycooper.com?
I've used the Inspector to change the episode/podcast name, but still to no avail. Anybody have any clue what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.

If you add a podcast page, a specific textbox on the main page is used as the title of a podcast.
When you delete the textbox, the rss feed has NO title. iTunes will display the URL of the RSS feed.
With the Darkroom Theme, there is a large textbox at the top that says *Evan's world* and a smaller one that says *Travel Podcast*. In this case *Travel Podcast* will be the title of your podcast.
With other themes other textboxes will be used as the title. With the Doodle theme the small text *About my podcast* in the side bar is used as the title.
Your [listen podcasts|http://www.barrycooper.com/barrycooper/listen/listen.html] has no textboxes, only the podcast items.

swipe to the left on the song name.

  • How is podcast name list arranged?

Can anyone explain how the list of podcast names is arranged in the left panel of the my podcast view, because it's certainly not alphabetical to me.  How can I change it to be so?

Pass, though possibly by date of first subscription. You can drag and drop the names up and down into the order that you want.

  • Podcast name is not showing up in itunes

The name of my podcast is no longer showing up in iTunes. Is there a fix for this?

You can change the title in the same place in whatever method you use to create your feed as you entered the original title, and then republish the feed - provided that doing so does not change the feed filename: doing so woud cause the Store to lose contact with it.
As to the image, if this is a new submission it can take quite a few days for the image to show.
It's not really possible to comment any further unless you would like to publish the URLs of both your feed and the Store page - this latter can be found by control-clicking on the podcast image (or where it should be) - and choosing 'Copy link'.  Please include the http:// in both cases to make the links clickable.

  • Why can't I rename a really long podcast name?

I'm forced to keep the name that is associated with the podcast. Why is that? Even iTunes 8.0 does not support this feature.

No that doesn't work either. Any other ideas?

  • Can't read full podcast name

Is there any way to view the full name of a podcast episode or somehow make it line rap or show up in a second window by tapping on something? I subscribe to a podcase that has a really long series name along with fairly long episode names. From the iPod on my new iPhone it's nearly impossible to read the name well enough to distinguish between different episodes.

the only way i have found, and it doesn't help much, is to start playing the podcast then goto now playing then flip the iphone horizontally... in coverflow it lists the whole thing at the bottom
please suggest they add a scroll or other feature to let us see title at the following link:

    be well!

  • Changing Podcast Names

I don't always like the names for all my podcasts because they are way too long and get cut off even showing full screen on my iPod. How can I change the name of the podcasts?

You're at the mercy of the podcast producer. Send them a message complimenting them for the great podcast, but you'd love to see the "tags" on each episode shortened to make them more readable on your MP3 player.

  • Podcast Name Change Questions

    Hello,
I've had an all-Canadian Music Podcast out for a year now and it's done well for a small podcast. However, I've decided to make some changes in hopes of reaching more listeners and a name change is being considered. I have a few concerns before doing this, so hopefully you guys can help.
Over the past year the show has surprisingly received 74 ratings and a lot of really nice reviews in iTunes. It has also found it's place in the iTunes "What's Hot" section and has stayed there for 6 months or so now. My concern with a name change is loosing ratings/reviews and the feature in What's Hot. It takes a lot of hard work to get recognition in iTunes and I don't want to throw away a year of efforts that made these small victories happen.
So, will changing the name have any effect in iTunes?
I use Libsyn as my host server and from there, changing the name is a simple process. I just want to make sure things won't change drastically in iTunes.
Thank you in advance for your help with this question!
    Cheers!
    Mike

There shouldn't be any problems. There may be a bit of a delay before the change appears in the Store but it won'ot affect anything - the basic identifier of the podcast is its ID number.

  • ! Symbol next to Podcast Name

I have a ! next to the top level name of a podcast, not the name of individual episodes. I try unsubscribe and resubscribe and do not get the list of the available episodes but they are in the itunes store. I can download from the store, I can subscribe from the store. I still get the ! symbol even after downloading some episodes.
Other pod casts will refresh the list of episodes with an unsubscribe/subscribe sequence. Why not this one and what is the correct way to get an episode list if I have deleted it?
I still think the played episodes should be deleted via an option to do that. Delete from the desktop, NOT just the IPOD.

I have seen this happen if it is failing on downloading a specific Podcast episode...
Could be that the Podcast creator removed the Podcast episode, but didn't update the Podcast XML file to reflect that.
    What specific Podcast is it?
